This is actually a historical landmark in Heidelberg and tour groups visit it! Each room was different and offered various amenties-tub versus shower, for example. Old World decor and views of The Castle. Fabulous location -can walk to almost everything. Would definitely stay here again. Tiniest of complaints-the baths linens were terrible! I use better and thicker ones when washing my car!
The location is perfect! Clean rooms and helpful staff.
The location of the hotel could not have been better. We could walk to everything. The food was excellent and reasonably priced. The hotel was opposite the church. The church bells rang loudly every fifteen minutes. Other guests sang and shouted outside the hotel until 6.00 am so kept us awake all night.
The central location could not be better. The room was very noisy at night with outside revelers noise through until 3 / 4 am. No lounge area for sitting and relaxing.
Excellent location, large comfortable room. Church bells rang every 15 minutes throughout the night. Probably unavoidable anywhere in the city.
location of hotel initially trying to find hotel; limited access through pedestrian zone
was not told about extre chg for breakfast
Location is perfect and the historical value of the building is extremely impressive!
It is a very homely environment. I like the restaurant set up. The staff speaks good English and very helpful. The wash room is very small.
Sitting out side and people watching while I was drinking a Pils
Recently renovated house, clean and spacious rooms, good location, garage, friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is a bit more expensive than some of its neighbours.
I stayed in this hotel many times, and I like it very much. There can however be some noisy rooms (students leaving the bars / garbage being collected), specifically if you leave the window open. Luckily the air conditioning works fine.
Ideal loaction with parking facilities. The satff were excellent & the restaurant extremely good.
Excellent, quiet location in the old town. Quality fittings, very modern decor style combined with old buildings worked well. Excellent (if quite expensive) restaurant. Breakfast was very good. Staff friendly and helpful. Secure parking garage a boon. No
The hotel offers a wide range of services that are to high standards. The traveller arriving by car will appreciate the spacious parking. It is located right in the historic center allowing to return for a short rest once tiredness kicks in after sightseeing. Very friendly and correct staff (but avoid to show up late for breakfast; see below). Check out at 11:00; even though we had been kindly allowed to extend. The lady at the breakfast buffet visibly had not been thrilled by us showing up at 11:00 (end of breakfast buffet) and had been hesitant to serve breakfast "a la carte" even though it is mentioned as an option on the list of services. Best solution, also in terms of quality: take breakfast outside at one of the numerous cafes.
very neat design. felt very modern and boutique-y. parking ample and secure. hotel staff very friendly.
the simplicity of the room very basic for the price
Excellent bright modern room but with classic style in a really good modernisation of an old building. Fantastic modern bathroom. Excellent breakfast at a reasonable price. Good bar. Very friendly and helpful staff with excellent english. Location just about perfect.
I liked how they preserved the original building and in addition put an interesting addition. Breakfast was good and reasonably priced. Parking was great. Neat decoration with artwork throughout the building. Loved the super-modern design, but the bathroom setup was a little awkward as the door to the shower shared the same door as to the toilet. not for those who like 100% privacy in the toilet.
The Arthotel has a very central location in the city centre, only 5min walking from the main square. We had a "comfort" room which was spacious and stylishly modern. If you like a modern, taut design, this hotel is certainly worth staying at. The wifi connection was €10 euro extra and wasn't functioning properly.
Great location, just a few minutes walk from the centre. Good personally service and excellent decor.
The hotel has an amazing view over Heidelberg and includes stunning rooms and really friendly staff. It's a little on the pricey side
Beautiful & attentive to details decoration; outstanding & proactive guest service;
It's location was perfect oberlooking the old town which was just a 5 minute walk away. The hotel itself is excellently presented and the staff are extremely professional. It offers a spa which we didn't use, rear gardens with a summer house and jaccuzi again we didn't have time to take advantage of these facilities. Room very comfortable and clean. The fact that the carpark attached to the hotel was charged to you at at rate of 15 Euro's per day. It is incredibly small and I feel that the charge was unneccessary given the cost of the hotel.
Quality suroundings, amenities & location.
it was a marvelous hotel very fine designed which covered all my expectations , small but fine . tip ask for a suite over viewing the river !
Comfortable room; historic location; interesting history of the Hotel
Wonderfully spacious accomodation that quickly felt like home and not a hotel. Family run with an English born lady part of the family made conversing in english simple, but there again everybody spoke english. Great food too! Could not fault it
The hotel was quite lovely with a very historic atmosphere.
the location was perfect for exploring Heidelberg, we were only a short walk from Old town, the castle and a great spot to watch the fire works, the room was spacious
The relaxing environment, the hotel setting, its close proximity to the town, the atmosphere
the high cost of the breakfast
It was close to the main part of the city and access to parking was very good directions to the hotel were difficult. We were told to turn, on a foot bridge to get to the hotel. When driving a car this makes it difficult
Beautiful welcoming, impressive family suite well decorated and with character, excellent dinner in the garden with efficient service. A great experience overall ! Just a little slack with breakfast, as there were much more customers that they had planned, so refill of buffet was not perfect, as the rest was.
Stylish hotel, with very friendly, attentive staff, well located close to the Altstadt. Very much recommended, a great experience.
Helpful, friendly and professional staff. Attractive exterior and dining area. Small shabby rooms with tired decor, peeling wallpaper, and noisy plumbing. Ceiling cladding more in keeping with an inner city council estate than a "luxury hotel" which this is not. Extremely over priced for this standard of room especially as breakfast cost an extra 22 Euros per head.
the parquet floors; the bathroom of the "attic room" was great
It's very near and accessible to all important places in Heidelberg. My room did not have a refrigerator while my friend in the other room has one.
Excellent location in the old town. Nearest car park expensive
Cleanness and location
I liked the hotel's location. Near to Heidelberg Castle. Just walk some minutes to reach the castle entrance. Also near to Heidelberg's historical bridge. Located in the best place of Hauptstrasse.
Delightful city, and the hotel is in the middle of it all. The hotel is conveniently located in the middle of town, which can get noisy on a Saturday night.
Central location, nice staff, attractive
We visited 11 hotels on this trip and this was our No.1. We had a fantastic loft apartment. The hotel location in the old town is perfect with views to both the main square (directly below) and to the castle (worth a visit). The owners were great and the breakfast provided was superb. All in all we loved it and recommend it highly. If you like modern you'll love the style that this hotel conveys. none
Welcomed manner from staff and host. I think "no."
Incredibly friendly and helpful staff, great location and excellent value for the money. Room and bathroom were very clean and quiet, and breakfast was good.
A very pleasant and competent staff, perfect location for visiting the old city, good room accomodations. Dropoff with baggage is a little difficult
Excellent hotel, right by the river and the old bridge. Had junior suite which was equipped with balcony and bathroom, a feature not many hotels in germany seem to have. D
Excellent buffet breakfast, comfortable room and exceptionally friendly staff. Able to leave luggage secure on day of departure & staff arranged a taxi for us.
The location was excellent..from all the hotels in Heidelberg, I believe this one has the best location. The staff was more than friendly. When we arrived, a young men who had his first day in the hotel, did everything to make us feel welcome and helped us with everything. When we left, the staff helped us to put the luggage in the car. We had a room facing the back street on a saturday night when students went out to party etc. Was pretty loud. I would next request a quiet room. Breakfast buffet was too expensive. We decided to eat breakfast somewhere else around the corner.
Excellent location! Staff at reception was so polite and helpful.
Perfect Location. Good Breakfast. "Must Stay" when you visit Heidelberg
Well located and the staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. Not really.
Lacation of the hotel
How close it was to the Hauptstrasse.
It is in the city center. The hotel was nice just for a good night of sleep, but at 7 a.m. on a Sunday morning, a very repetitive noise (as a vacuum cleaner) just started like if it was near to our ears. When we talked to the person at the reception, she just ignore our complain and was not able to understand where the noise was coming from. Finally, from the review at Booking.com, the hotel was rated as Very Good, therefore I was expecting much more. I would just rate it with a small o.k.!
Wonderful location in walking distance of everything. The room was very functional with great views. The staff were very helpful. Highest recommendation!
View from our window of the heidelberg castle Very difficult to find the entrance to the hotel as it is part of the funicular entrance and also a parking garage. a very nice elderly lady was kind enough to actually take us to the elevator that leads to the seventh floor which is where the hotel is located. bathroom a little small, as was the room, but comfortable.
Comfortable rooms, very helpful staff and excellent breakfasts. The need to pick up a key from another hotel after 11pm was a little strange, but in fact went very smoothly.
Visited the Heidelberg castle which is just a walk away, and attended many pubs and restaurants in the very busy market nearby
Only that one was forced to take the elevator to get to the hotel, plus the fact that one had to park in the parking garage which was fairly expensive.
The location was fantastic - right in the Old Town, and the staff were very pleasant. The only slight negative was that the breakfast was a bit limited - something hot would have been nice, but what was available was good.
The all-you-can-eat breakfast is the best! Variety and fresh! The room was large, nicely decorated, plenty of hot water even when using the bath and shower at the same time. The pillows and comforters were fluffy and warm. There were times when I would have preferred to adjust the room temperature to warmer room temperatures, but heating was adequate.
central position in the city on the roof of a P-garage
Friendliness of staff hotel was very clean good location very nice restaurant No
This is a great little hotel in the middle of the city. The restaurant is fantastic and certainly worth at least one dinner. View from our room was fantastic. Check in after 18.00 is at the hotel bar/restaurant. No on site parking - parking is available in a parking garage further up in the city, but not super easy to get to, but doable. Would recommend loading/unloading bagge at hotel and then parking.
Ease of access to the old town and most of the "tourist" venues Thought the room was a bit basic for the price
Its location and the people who work there - especially Sebastian, Laura, and the lady who works in the breakfast area (name unknown). the difficulty of unloading suitcases, then parking the car.
Good quality restaurant. Easy to access to city center. Very friendly staff. Difficult to find car parking.
The staff was very nice and the breakfast was very good. Our room was very spacious! The hotel room was a bit noisey because it was facing the street. I would request a rear facing one the next time.
This was an absolutely lovely hotel and we thoroughly enjoyed our stay - everything was perfect - cosy, quiet, excellent heating as needed, beautiful bathroom, our lovely spacious room was so comfortable! The hotel is beautifully situated right by the Alten Brucke and the river and we were able to walk absolutely everywhere in the beautiful city of Heidelberg - and it is an incredibly beautiful city. The Castle towering over the city was stunning and wonderful to visit - the restaurants were superb and we were very sad to leave! We couldn't fault the hotel, it was excellent in all respects - though we didn't have the breakfast, I have no doubt it would have been splendid!
Great location, good food, great staff Our room was an inside room so there was no window to the outside, just to the hall. Noise and voices carried due to lack of acoustical treatment in the rooms and halls
The staff were wonderfully friendly and helpful. The parking situation was really unacceptable - too far from the hotel and difficult to find for those of us not terribly familiar with Heidleberg.
Super suite on the top level with a great view. Also, the fine food and good service by Agnes at the restaurant. We enjoyed our stay very much.
The breakfast was excellent. The Hotel is in a great location for the Rathaus, Castle and market, also stores close by. It would be nice to have an elevator for your older customers with lots of heavy luggage!
View + location Stairs (no lift)
The location was perfect and the friendly staff. No complimentary coffee/tea in hotel room.
close to the center of the city, good breakfast very poor directions, difficuslt to find
Staff was excellent; pleasant and very helpful. Breakfast was very good for an inexpensive hotel. I think there is a nightclub in the basement of the hotel, with loud music at night and loud, drunken patrons on the street outside late at night. This hotel would be perfect without the nightclub there!
Friendly helpful staff when I checked in. It was very hot and I asked for a fan. It was in my room when I returned. Some Air conditioning in Breakfast room or some fans. It is too hot to enjoy eating.
The friendliness and hospitality. I would have preferred to have tea/coffee facilities in the hotel room and toast at breakfast.
breakfast included was a nice touch. location was great.
Excellent central location in old town - close to bars, shops and the castle. Single room was basic but comfortable and clean. Helpful English speaking staff.
Central location, friendly attentive staff. No airconditioning, very very small bathroom (even though main room was huge), public areas need updating
the location was perfect and I liked the concept of town house very much
Very good location. Friendly staff. Good breakfast
the front desk staff was particularly friendly and helpful not really
I stayed at the Hotel Cafe Knoesel although the actual booking was at the Vier Jahreszeiten. Central location handy and very nice room. Two nights (Friday and Saturday) out of the seven I stayed in the hotel were extremely noisy until about 3am due to the bars in the area. Many screaming drunken people were passing under my rooms window.
Location, location, location!!! Lack of an elevator
Perfect location and very friendly staff. Broken toalett and broken basin, very hard beds, pillows without feathers. The hotel needs to fresh up and then it would be perfect.
Location and friendly service. Parking was about 600 yards from the hotel. Understand the reason, however, it was quite a hike over to the reserved parking they have.
Location, breakfast service. Would refrain from statement.
great location no elevators (I was at the 3rd floor!), old fashioned
very cosy, good location and good value for money. The superior room was great, good view to neckar river.
Villa Marstall was an excellent choice for us. The location was perfect by the old bridge. Walk to everything.
Location was awesome and Staff was very friendly Only thing we can comment on at all was the parking was several blocks away which was really fine given that the hotel loaction is in the heart of old town Heidelberg
Fantastic location in the middle of Heidelberg (Altstad) and lots of good reastaurants near by. Beautifully restored old villa. The beds are quite hard (suits some people but not us) and I did not manage once to sleep a full night. The hotel is by the river and a trafficed road which means that it can be very noisy if you have your window open - if not, it is nice and quiet. Only parking available is at least 10-15 minutes walk from the hotel and it will cost you an additional 8-12 Euros per night (2010).
location (from my room, the river and the castle can be seen together) nothing
very nice room with great view! helpful staff
Staff were very pleasant and helpful. Rooms were very comfortable and clean, and nicely decorated. Good breakfasts, nice river view, too. A lobby where one could sit down would have been nice, while waiting for other guests, checking in or out, etc.
excellent hotel, good English speaking staff and very nice location. better (wireless) internet facilities.
Employees were wonderful as were the room, food, location and price. A bit of street noise, but nothing to really complain about.
Charming, warm and wonderful place to stay. The best food we had in Germany was here as well. I would love to stay here again!
Excellent German food with regional specialties. Charming decor. Excellent location 1/2 block from Old Bridge in old Heidelberg. The staff was courteous, helpful and friendly. English spoken well. Parking was a challenge, as we arrived on a Sunday afternoon in July. The walking street was filled with (naturally) pedestrians and tables with umbrellas. Driving to the door to leave our luggage was not possible. We parked illegally and walked to the hotel with our luggage. Once we checked in we were told which parking garage had an agreement with the hotel to offer discounted rates, so that problem resolved itself. This is an old hotel so there is no air conditioning (not usually a problem in Heidelberg) but there was a floor oscillating fan which, after we opened windows and the doors to the small courtyard, the room cooled off nicely.
Room was lovely, although we asked for a double bed. Breakfast was amazing! It was extremely noisy - Ask for a room at the back or you'll have to shut the windows!
breakfast and the location make the stay if worried about noise or light sleeper ,ask for room at back. the location is wonderful but its attractiveness attracts the crowds and the narrow street is a popular venue with its vibrant street cafes
The size of the room was great and the bathroom was also big and with verry nice furniture. On the dinner it was no place for us (guest at the hotel) at the hotel restaurant.
The staff was excellent...very helpful. We had to check out early the next morning to go to Frankfurt Int'l Airport so the night before they prepared a bag full of sandwiches, drinks, and fruit so that we'd have some food on the road the next morning! Where our room was located was directly above the street/hotel restaurant. We had to go to bed very early due to an early flight the next morning and the restaurant noise/street noise did not end until 1 AM. Also, due to having to shut the windows due to the outside noise, I thought the cigarette smoke was going to choke us.
The location was excellent, facilities good and staff helpful and accommodating.
All the staff were very frinedly and really helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. The room was excellent. Heidelberg itself has numerous churches whose bells ring every quarter. It did not bother us but may do other people. No there was not. However, see above comment re churches.
I liked the bed & breakfast feel of the hotel - felt like you were staying with friends. Breakfast was great too.
