I was charged twice because the first payment didn’t go through on hertz end but did go through on my banks end. Had to have money transferred to make a second transaction for it to go through hertz end. The car I reserved was not provided to and was provided a small car which was not what I asked for. I had to upgraded to a different car and was charged additional because the vehicle was priced higher. The car was not cleaned and the representative didn’t even show us where the car was we had to search for it ourselves nor was I shown how to put the car in drive, reverse or park. I had to figure it out myself. This location had poor service and took 3hrs to pick up the vehicle. I showed up at the 12pm which was my pick up scheduled time and didn’t leave the facility until 3pm, freaking ridiculous especially since it wasn’t the vehicle I reserved. The car I received had been used by a smoker, even though all Hertz cars are supposed to be non-smoking. It was turned over to me with the front seat passenger's seatbelt wrapped around the headrest. The Hertz employee spent about three minutes trying to release the seatbelt, and then told me, "You will have to YouTube it." The passenger's seat could not be used. It took me about an hour and a half to free the seatbelt, including YouTube and other web research. Regarding the smell of smoking, I called Hertz after I arrived at my destination. They recorded my complaint, and suggested that I buy a container of spray deodorizer. This did not solve the problem. The day after I returned the car, I received an updated invoice, charging me $400 as a smoking fee. It took about an hour on the phone to get this charge removed, including the holding time and the many minutes necessary to get through the AI customer service preventer.Reviewed Jul 15 2026

It took at least 15 minutes after picking up the car and getting behind the wheel to exit the hertz parking lot because of some apparently new proprietary gates that were poorly staffed. After returning the car began receiving daily emails and text messages claiming damage to the car based upon imaging technology that claims to identify dents, photos that show no visible damage and demanding a deposit! to begin the repair process.
