Terrible experience, go somewhere else
Cons: I called at 1030 to verify the car was ready and available for pick up, I was told they had no cars, and to come in after noon. So when I arrived at 12:20 they were closed, but still on site. My contract specified a 12pm pick up, and the staff said they closed at noon. I was told they couldn’t help me because they had no cars and they couldn’t help me. I had to demand the staff find me a car and they referred me to the local airport (30 minute can ride away). So here we are, stranded 323 miles from home, on our way to a wedding, and left completely abandoned, and disregarded even though I have a contract in my hand. After a long ride to the airport, they were able to produce a car. So now I’m an hour late, and rather upset at the complete disregard to my contract. This absolutely wrecked my trip. I have no fraught what so ever that this Hertz shop can deliver in the future, and there needs to be a full review and changes made at this shop. I’ll never rent from them again. Points: giving a customer an appointment after they are closed is a massive oversight. Not having a car available (as in none) when you have a rental agreement is inexcusable. Positives: we now know to never do business there.

Rebooked SFO to PDX
Pros: My flight was cancelled from SFO to McKinleyville, so I had to rebook my car rental to leave from SFO and drove north. Top marks to Arlene, who worked very hard to get me the best rebooking deal possible, and it only cost me an extra $75 or so to depart from a completely different city.
Cons: Other than the pain of rescheduling and having to drive an SUV that guzzled gas (I only needed an economy), I appreciated their help and it was a good rental experience.

OVER CHARGED
Cons: I dropped my car off at the location per my reservation and left keys in drop box. I come to find out later that location (Eureka CA) does not accept rental returns during non-business hours and was charged an extra 3 days as it was a holiday weekend. I was supposed to be charged aprox. $180 w/ insurance and ended up being changed $600+. No where in my original reservation nor at pick up was I made aware the car has to be returned during business hours. I obviously would not have rented a one way car for $600. This is horrendous business practice. I have filed a dispute with your company that has yet to be rectified. If this is not resolved immediately, I will 100% be in contact with the BBB.

Cons: That all they had was a subcompact car and not the standard size car I ordered

Pros: The car was ready when we needed it; friendly clerk.
Cons: Bummed out that the car was NOT clean. They didn't bother to wash the car or windshield, inside not vacuumed or cleaned out, and even had some granola bar wrapper left in car. When we reported the unclean car (when we returned the car) they said sorry, but they were short staffed.

Fantastic customer service
Pros: I had flown into the Eureka airport, but by accident had booked my car from downtown Eureka. The gentleman working was great! Called that office, worked with them to find me a car, which was only slightly more due to airport fees, and everything worked out fine. And I was able to drop it back at the airport at the completion of my trip. Good customer service is so rare these days that it's amazing to me when I do see it in action. Well done to both the young lady and gentleman working the counter! And the car was great too!

Could be better
Pros: The Nissan Sentra we drove was fine for our 8hr drive but could have been better on gas mileage. We did use the eco option frequently and it helped some. The car was clean and had a good amount of trunk space.
Cons: Customer service was simply okay at best. We were scheduled to pick up at 8am. We arrived before 8am and there was a line of two customers ahead of us. We waited over 45 minutes to get our vehicle. Really? We needed to get on the road. When returning our vehicle at 9am the next day, the woman that unlocked the door clearly saw us standing directly outside the door, but didn't feel at all obliged to open the door for us. When we showed ourselves inside, she didn't properly acknowledge our presence, say hello, or show any sort of courtesy. She simply took the keys and muttered to herself and walked outside to review the vehicle. I'll go across the street next time to Enterprise. The vehicle was also covered in scratches. We booked online and Hertz agents were not familiar with kayak.com. Apparently, I paid $7 more for insurance at Kayak than I could have with Hertz. I also was unable to use my AAA discount at pickup because Kayak booking was prepaid.
