my rental was NOT clean, smelled like pot. We complained but only one employee was there and told us the hose was broke and the toilet was out of order. Joseph said she tried to remove the smell but the smoke had imbedded the fabric.Reviewed Mar 8 2024

Pros:The pickup was great. The O'Fallon branch was super helpful friendly and efficient.Cons:The williamsburg office is closed. Like until further noticed closed. I tried to call the number left on the door and there was no answer or option to speak to someone. I am still hoping I am going to be getting my 200$ hold back. I left the keys in the box like instructed but not sure how they will know.Reviewed Jan 10 2021

Pros:Terrible customer service. Did not add my AAA discount. Will not adjust since they closed it out.Cons:Best customer service. I had to call and ask for a receipt 3 times to get a simple email. Pros:Vehicle got good gas mileage and was comfortable.Cons:Whatever Hertz uses to "clean" (wipe down surfaces inside the vehicle) the vehicles stinks! To me, it smells like what schools use to spray on an area after a student vomits. (former teacher) The person who did the walk around asked, "What? You don't like that?" I aired out the car in our garage for 24 hours before I could get in and drive it with windows shut.Reviewed Oct 15 2017

Not cleaned well; left out an important fact.Pros:I rented a Nissan Versa and overall, it handled well. It had enough power for Colorado passes, but just barely. Roomy enough for two suitcases two backpacks and assorted camping gear.Cons:Ten miles down the road the seal on the windshield began to flap in the wind; I repaired it myself. Also, the inside of the front windshield appeared to be wiped down with a soapy cloth and left to dry. I was told I could add an extra driver later in the trip, which I did, but wasn't told that doing so incurred an extra $13.50 per day fee. By that time I was nearly 400 miles into the trip (the fee was reduced with the use of my AAA card), but it was something that should have been mentioned during the initial pickup.Reviewed Jul 30 2017

Do not use! use Enterprise if going to st LouisPros:NothingCons:They did not offer pick up or drop off at the airport. The car was dirty windows were not clean. Dropped off car they had no assigned spots for Hertz cars in parking lot, and no other spots either. The car windows were filthy inside car was not cleaned prior to our pick up. Cons:Car ran okay but was not very clean - also had tape adhesive on the outside of it - doors and trunk appeared to have been taped shut previously. Also felt the rental cost was rather high for an economy car. Not sure where the feature originated, but not having the ability to open the car doors after a trip without manually unlocking was a bit weird. I also don't remember the last time I had a car without a key fob and had to manually unlock doors with a key from the outside. Wait time to pick the car up was 35-40 minutes and wait time to return the car was 15-20 minutes, this is poor customer service.Reviewed Jun 25 2017

Hertz location incorrect on GPSPros:People working at Hertz were very nice, honest and helpful.Cons:Car had not been cleaned. O'fallon Illinois actual location was 10 minutes away from where GPS driving directions for this address. Parking lot had no room for car delivery or for parking the car when i delivered it monday at 4-4:15pm. Despite this, employees were kind and helpful, and delivered me and others to and from nearby belleville airport with a smile.Reviewed Jun 13 2017

I expected more from HertzCons:When I rent a car I expect it to be clean and full of gas. This was neither. The car had not been washed. It still had the white road salt/chemicals on it. There were stains in the back seat. The attendant said the car had 3/4 tank of gas in it. It actually was just a bit less. For a number one rental car company I expected a lot more.
