Not My best Hertz Experience
Pros: Car when I got it was fine. Clean and functioned well.
Cons: Made my reservation on Kayak. The reservation was supposed to be for the Santa Fe Airport. Got the confirmation, questioned the address as really the airport. Called Hertz. They confirmed it was the airport. Got to Santa Fe, car was not there. Hertz at airport advised me that my car was in central Santa Fe. Had to spend $64 on shuttle to pick up car. Car was not available when I reached Hertz in Santa Fe. Car was not ready for an additional day. They had no cars. Once I got the car, things went fine but I had the car for a day less than the reservation and had to pay $64 additional days because they didn't have the car and wasn't in the location they had assured was my destination.

Pros: good economical car. satellite radio worked great out in the middle of nowhere, that helped passed the time.
Cons: the vehicle didn't have cruise control !

Issue renting a vehicle
Pros: I was thrilled that I was finally able to speak with an person and get the issue resolved. I would think twice again before renting thru Hertz unless I had an actual person to speak to. They apparently missed my reservation thru Kayak. The woman at Hertz did upgrade my vehicle to try to make up for all the confusion.
Cons: Called Hertz in area where I planned to be. No answer. "voicemail has not been set up" Went online to rent and secured a car for the day. Was called an hour later by Hertz to say they didn't have any available vehicles until mid afternoon. We changed our plans for the following day. Called the local Hertz and still no answer and no available voicemail. Went online and rented for later that day thru the following day. Pickup was scheduled for 5 PM that day and no one showed up with a vehicle. (this pickup location was at a hotel site that Hertz uses but does not routinely staff ) The manager of the hotel was not pleased and tried calling other local Hertz offices. While he was doing that, I called the 800 number and they said they could not help and apologized for the issue. The hotel manager did get an individual at the airport Hertz location and they handled the issue. This took approximately and hour to get resolved.

Much better experience in Santa Fe
Pros: I couldn't find the initial drop-off location so the manager allowed me to drop off the car at a different location without any hassles. The employees were friendly and apologized for any problems we had during our trip.
Cons: Everything was great here.

Off airport Hertz office hours
Pros: This is an off-airport Hertz. Please be aware of the Hertz office hours and your flight times. We arrived 6 minutes after the Hertz office had closed. Thankfully the Hertz employee saw us getting dropped off and our shuttle driving away. She reopened the store to rent us a vehicle. Above and beyond service!!!

Cons: We were delayed because of weather. Our car was not held for 24 hours - just two. We were delayed in one airport alone for more than two hours! Hertz did not help with this situation, even though it was not our fault. I will not use Hertz again.

Pros: Did not like anything about it.
Cons: Even though I had reserved a car On the day if the rental I was told there were no cars available. Had to rent from Avis at the last minute. A bit stressful to say the least.

Cons: When I arrived, the agent told me they didn't have a car available,despite the fact that I had a reservation. The agent would not help me contact other local Hertz locations to find a car. She promised to follow up with me later that day, but never called. I ended up getting a great deal at Enterprise, and will never waste my time with Hertz again!

pick-up not convenient
Cons: Booked a car away from the airport (Santa Fe) as it was less expensive and I assumed there would be Hertz shuttle to take me to the location. Not so. I had to pay $21 to have a community-based shuttle take me to the location. The Hertz rep at the airport could tell I was a little upset with this so told me to ask the rep at the pick-up location to deduct the cost of the shuttle from the rental cost.....which she did. I guess I shouldn't have assumed that there would be transportation provided by Hertz to another non-airport pick-up location. I didn't know that the Santa Fe airport was so small so may have opted to rent a car located directly at the airport had I known the circumstances. I was able to change my drop-off location to avoid another costly shuttle expense and ended up taking the car back to the airport....but there was an add'l charge to do so.

Great customer service
Pros: Rep. Was courteous and provided suggestions for things to do/see both locally and in a nearby city. We rented car for 2 weeks and she contacted us after the first week to make sure everything was going well. she also looked into any additional discounts which applied and was able to reduce the fee by $30.

Major Hertz hassle
Pros: The Hertz reps at the Santa Fe airport were very congenial and helpful. Easy pick up process.
Cons: Hertz handled my call about a flat tire on the road at 9pm and sent a serviceman to install the spare, instructing me to drive 30 miles to a tire shop that was open until 11pm. When I arrived, the tire shop was actually closed. The Hertz call center rep advised me that there were no other options and no Hertz rental office within 125 miles so I was told to drive home (250 miles) on the spare at 55 mph. Against my better judgement, I did so and arrived home at 4am.

Cons: When I got there they said they didn't have a full size car like I had reserved and wanted to give me a SUV. I insisted and they gave me a full size Malibu. Why they said they didn't have one I don't know. They said the car was full of gas and it was only 3/4 full. The car was really dusty and full of bugs on front.

Check your own fluids before you leave.
Cons: I was sent off with almost no brake fluid in the rental car. The low brake fluid sensor went off on a rainy mountain pass, it was a very scary drive. When I called the rental place they said" The Hertz people in Albuquerque are supposed to be in charge of filling car fluids. Very unhelpful.

Pros: Good gas mileage
Cons: I requested a Nissan Sintra and received a Toyota Yaris. Bad start to hear my purchase was not guaranteed, because I tend to request things that actually fit my need. My luggage could not fit in the trunk which meant we had to keep it in the back seat where it could have gotten stolen. Therefore we were worried about theft half of the trip and trying to cover everything and put valuables under seats. The Yaris is also too small for the freeway driving we were doing. It felt like a death trap because they gave a car with a tire leak and when the car picks up speed the tires are so small that they have a tough time having a solid grip on the road. Very disappointed and felt unsafe.

better booking through Kayak than Hertz
Pros: At Kayak, we had straightforward car rental booking and the pricing and the car availability were good. The Hertz rental agent in Santa Fe was friendly and helpful and worked hard to help everyone as quickly as he could despite some tech challenges. The rental car and car return were super easy to get to and find (such a tiny airport!).
Cons: After looking at Kayak, we attempted to look at the Hertz site directly and it was confusing and inconsistent in what it said was available. Somewhere I thought I read we'd have to take a shuttle to get our rental car which wasn't the case and was a bit confusing in trying to line up our plans and estimate our arrival time at our host's house.

Santa Fe drop off problem
Pros: The 2nd Hertz office I went to was very helpful
Cons: The first address I was given from my reservation was 20 buffalo thunder trail and that is not a manned hertz location. It was a casino and the people that worked in the casino said there was not a hertz there.

Pros: The ladies I dealt with went out of their way to make the experience efficient and enjoyable. They did everything in their power to make the trip enjoyable and surpassed expectations. Thank you again for all you did.

No car available!!
Cons: While I had a confirmation number, I did not have a car. The local agency called me very belatedly to let me know it would be in my best interest to formulate a "back-up" plan as they did not have a car available for me.
