Pros:Easy to book online
Cons:When we arrived to pick up our car the agent didn’t speak English well, which was completely fine, but he opted to sign us up for the most expensive insurance and prepaid gas without asking. After taking my card he handed me a receipt for nearly 500 euro for our $60 rental. When I asked about alternatives he just tried to keep up selling us with veiled threats. We cancelled and rebooked with Enterprise where the service was honestly incredible and we booked our insurance online minutes in advance. I’m still waiting to see if he actually cancelled.
Pros:The vehicle was perfect for our 50 days of driving through 3 countries.
Cons:Was told car would have CD player. It did not. And hertz emailed me and called me and wanted me to bring car back to Barcelona from Germany for service.
Cons:Car was not according expected standards, requiring to look for another one. Person at from desk not cooperative. A side of this, kayak platform does not keep the timing (arrival and departure) when confirming the transaction, that may generate confusion on booking details
Pros:Fast easy drop off.
Cons:I had to circle around to find the Hertz area and had to go up one level to find it. Minor issue (signs were there, just not real obvious/big)

Cons:The never lost stopped working in the middle of our trip. We got very lost and didn't know what to do. I believe I was still charged for it when I asked to have it removed.
Everything was great with the rental until we dropped the car off in Madrid after 10 days and discovered we didn't have a spare tire for the whole trip. We were lucky that we never needed the spare. Not great attention to detail by Hertz in Barcelona. Lesson learned I will always check the spare tire from now on.
Pros:We had initially rented a manual Fiat 500 but when we got to the rental desk, the Hertz employee gave us a brand-new (18 kms on the odometer), semi-automatic, fully-loaded (leather seats, navigation), Fiat 500S. We had signed up for the most basic and cheapest car and we ended up with a pretty decent one in the same class, and there was no added cost to us. The unlimited kms were very good for us as we did about 1850 kms of driving over the 8-day rental period. Pick-up and drop-off were quick and easy. The entire experience was enjoyable.
Cons:My only issue, and this has nothing to do with Hertz, is how weak the engine of the Fiat 500 was. We had quite a bit of trouble keeping up with the European traffic on the highway. Driving on the very hilly landscape of Spain made some parts of the highway near impossible to climb without losing much speed. Other than that, it was a very enjoyable rental.
