I tried to rent a mini van for my family at the Hertz at the Dane County airport in Madison Wisconsin. The first van I got had a heater that did not work (in Wisconsin, during winter) the windshield washer fluid was frozen and the outside windows were dirty, making it hard to see. I took the Dodge Caravan back and was given a Pacifica. I got my kids car seats anchored and went to get myself buckled in and the drivers seatbelt did not work. There was a panel near it that had been taken off and never fixed. I had to take the car seats out of that van, back into the airport to talk with the agent. He told me that they pay a company to maintain their cars and check them for safety. I question if the company is doing their job. I could hear the agent talk to his manager about what was going on, and while the agent wanted to help get me an upgrade the manager wanted to send me away in the car with the malfunctioning seatbelt. I did talk to the manager, he was short, and did not apologize for any of it. They never offered to check the next car to see if it worked properly, or drive it to me so I would not have to carry two car seats. Overall it took me 2 hours to get a working car, and I hauled 2 large car seats multiple blocks. I have rented with other car rental companies at the airport and they normally go out of their way to make things right, and apologize when it’s not. It was a huge waste of time and effort. Go with a different company.

The personnel working the front desk during pickup and drop off were very friendly and helpful. However, the Yukon I rented was not as clean inside as I had expected. The passenger side mirror was not functioning and when I informed the receptionist at drop off it didn't seem to concern him. The remote auto start also did not work resulting in my going outside in below zero temperatures to start the vehicle. I also would have expected a walk around of the vehicle before and after with a brief on the operating functions of the vehicle, but neither occurred. This did make me nervous on drop off and potentially accruing charges for any damage that was already there but not documented. I did receive my receipt and this did not happen, but it was a nervous period. Overall, I would use Hertz again, but there are improvements that could make things better.

Vehicle was in good shape and everything went smoothly at pickup.The luxury car offering was only a Chrysler 300 ... I would have liked to see a better offering, but the vehicle was acceptable enough.
The lady at the counter was extremely efficient. She upgraded me, which really helped because I had to pack in all my sons’ skis and snowboards. Over the week, I unfortunately developed double pneumonia. I had to extend my stay. She managed to do so for only $100 to get the weekly rate. I’m going to Alamo for my first choice. Anne Buchanan

Price and fast serviceFirst car was cleaned but had the maintenance light on and a low pressure tired. The second car was not not too cleaned. Also, I wanted to add an extra day but they would charge me more than twice instead of honoring the same price.

Our car was damaged after we returned it. Unfortunately, we didn't take pictures after we dropped it off and are being charged for it. I understand their policy, and they can do what they want, but it puts a damper on our experience.

Dane County Airport Agent was on point with her details everything was ready for me. Durning this pandemic, vehicle was wiped down prior and could smell the cleanest when I opened the car door. When I dropped off in Charlotte Airport, the attendant was professional. Thank you Alamo!No

Staff was greatIt was freezing cold below zero and they knew I was coming in. I feel they could have either moved the vehicle closer or started it. I had to walk to the furthest outside stall and it was hard starting the vehicle
After I reserved the rental with my debit card, I get to the location to pick the vehicle up and they state that I must have a credit card, not a debit card. I pay cash for everything, have never wanted nor needed a credit card just always use debit. With that being said, i was stuck 1300 miles from home with now way to rent a car to get home because I didnt have a credit card. I have rented vehicles on my debit card at least a dozen times with no issue. Also, with this location you cannot return the car to any other office besides this particular one. So long story short, 3 days later had to make a return trip 1300 miles to drop the car off.

My flight arrived at 11:43 pm. I called the rental desk, which normally closes at 11:pm, and I was told they would stay open if I put the flight number and time of arrival on the reservation form. I did that, my flight arrived on time, and the desk was closed. I did not pick up the car.
The staff was prompt, friendly, helpful and gave clear directions. Car was in excellent condition and clean and conveniently located.

Car was made available 90 minutes my requested time, after completing paperwork at the desk. This reservation was made more than 30 days in advance of need. When the car was made available, it had been incompletely cleaned, and was covered in ice and snow. The windows needed to be scraped and swept for safe operation.

Pickup was a breeze, super easy....until I discovered the car tag displayed on the vehicle had expired 3 months ago and had to swap vehicles. The swap was super easy too, just a minor inconvenience.Upon return in another city, agent was unable to provide a final receipt even after 15 minutes of processing.
I had a reservation to pick up my rental at Madison airport at 9 pm. I got there at 9:04 and Avis was already closed for the night. I had to taxi to a hotel and come back in the morning for my rental. What a pain in the ass. Who closes at 9 but takes a reservation for the same time? Very bad business. Will not rent from them again.

The staff at the counter were very pleasant and helpful.The car was in pretty poor condition. It had some dents and scratches, and if it had been cleaned the cleaning didn't show. Candidly, the car wasn't worth the high rental cost; I've had much nicer cars for a lower cost at other airports.

LifesaverBriana (I think it was Briana) at the Dane County Airport helped me quickly get into a great car after a disastrous experience with having a flight canceled without warning. I was in a hurry and on a tight budget. She was kind and helpful and got me a wonderful, reliable and comfy car, fast.

Terrible customer serviceFriendly but slow counter service.Slow process to complete pick up. I received no communication that the drop off point for my one-way rental was a satellite location with no official Avis presence, then was charged for a second day after they claimed it was returned late even though there was only a place to drop the keys, so they have no way of verifying my return time. When I called to dispute the additional late charges, the customer service was slow and unhelpful.
