10.0 Excellent
Pros: An incredible and romantic experience that is unique and not reproducible elsewhere. Francesco and the staff were very helpful and made our stay memorable. This is a green hotel...they are preserving a bit of world culture and heritage. Don't pass this up for a stay.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: How different the experience was. To see the renovation of these caves. The restoration of furniture
8.3 Excellent
Pros: The staff here are amazing and the breakfast spread had lots of choice. The rooms are all individual and staying in one of the caves you felt the history! There are lovely touches in the room and staff are obviously very proud of the hotel and it’s history. It was a short up hill walk to the piazza with the cathedral and lots of sites and restaurants.
Cons: I personally found the cave room a dampish cold and eerie experience. There was nothing missing in the provision and the pillar candles and complimentary wine and fruit were well thought touches but I like nice smells and the atmosphere just wasn’t for me. We only stayed one night which was quite expensive. Fellow guests though found their stays amazing and experienced the in room massages and tried the cookery class and raves about them. Definitely an experience!

Pros: The location is perfect, the staff super nice as well as the breakfast. The room is big and comfy. The little shared terrace to enjoy the sun in the morning... really loved this place!
Cons: Little things can be always be improved but not relevant. Maybe to mention that tap water was not drinkable and we had to pay for in bottle (not big deal though).

Pros: Chiara of the welcoming staff was amazing. She was helpful and friendly and went above and beyond to take care of our needs. The hotel location in the sassis, is terrific. A bit difficult to find at first, but we were traveling in rental cars, which are not allowed in the area.
Cons: Everything was to our liking.

Pros: Loved this place! From the moment we stepped into the property we knew we made the right choice. Beautifully appointed, great bathroom, a patio door leading onto a beautiful patio with a table and chairs offering a view of Matera. It is modern without loosing the old world charm. Very clean and very friendly helpful staff. A wonderful breakfast is served in a vaulted room. We can highly recommend this place and only wish we could have stayed longer.

Pros: The location is just a few minutes from the pedestrian area as well as the “Sassi” . It is a small quiet hotel with sn abundant breakfast shich you can enjoy on the terrace overlooking Matera center and the gravina. I stayed in the very small (monk’s) room which still held everything you might need. Loved it, very particular.
10.0 Excellent
Cons: Nice location. Free parking. Much better view for Matera rather than a view which may have inside of the town
10.0 Excellent
Pros: I stayed in a single room called "Monk's Room" where monk used to live. The room was small but that's what I wanted, I deliberately chose it to experience a stay as if i were in a small cave room. It was an extraordinary experience. Room was very clean, comfortable, warm, not dampness, quiet, shower plenty of hot water. The terrace looking over the town was simply amazing, I had my breakfast in the terrace. Breakfast was a good mixture of sweet and savory, I appreciated they had savory option! such as fresh savory focaccias, eggs, cheese & ham and cherry tomatoes and of course the typical bread from Matera.., all very fresh. I was given two keys, one for main entrance and the other for the back gate. From the back gate you can access to touristic walking route and it was handy to be able to use it in and out. A few minutes walk to Via Bruno Buozzi where there are many eateries. Staff were all very friendly and helpful. I will definitely come back.
Cons: Nothing.

Pros: “Le Dimore Dell' Idris is a fantastic place to stay. The location in the Sassi of Matera is perfect, the rooms are very clean and unique and the staff couldn't be more helpful. We enjoyed the breakfast out on the patio with views of the old town all around. We were there during the James Bond 007 movie shoot and watched them film a scene right in front of our room. Very memorable.
Cons: Due to movie shoot in town and it was difficult to get to the hotel with our bags from the car park. We could have used some more help. Once we were there, it was all worth it.

Cons: I thought our second room was going to have the stone ceiling. It wasn't a deal breaker but that room was a little more plain and too updated in my opinion. It still worked, was clean and comfortable.
6.3 Good
Pros: The croissants at breakfast were piping hot, straight out of the oven. The best we've had in Italy!

Cons: Room stairs, fungus in shower,no windows
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Amaizing view Good breakfast.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful hotel, in the most incredible location with the most perfect view and semi-private balcony. The staff were so nice telling me about the Sassi, this is a small hotel with a few rooms so you feel very special. The room itself was so cool, spacious and clean, and even had a small kitchen. Location was right in the Sassi, so just ideal.
Cons: I had an issue getting to the Sassi, but that's because it's tough and the hotel warns you. So make sure you get the directions clearly on your maps and follow their directions so you make it there on time. The hotel should expand their check in hours just a bit so it makes it easier for the guests since it's a difficult place to reach. But I think they are actually flexible if you just communicate with them and are really quick in getting back.

Cons: The breakfast was disappointing the food did not seem very fresh and not a lot of choice.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Basiliani is in the heart of all you came to see... behind San Pietro for ~200m, just beyond both the Casa Grotto and St Lucia, in Caveoso. Its rock-carved rooms are spotless, and hold every convenience you hope for... including a bathtub in #129, and coffee/tea making for that wake-up cuppa! It also overlooks the famous gorge of the ‘sassi’, and chauffeurs you to/from your car, safely parked on the outskirts of this pedestrian gem. Oh, and the breakfast is varied, fresh and superb!
Cons: Absolutely zilch!

10.0 Excellent
Pros: Nice host, tastefully decorated, good facilities, very good location...
8.3 Excellent
Pros: Location, location, location. You live more comfortably next door to the old city than inside the old city. Assistance for parking was very helpful, although parking may be a bit strenuous. Tea and coffee bar was ok. We even had a little view of the sky.
Cons: Breakfast was very Italian: a coupon for a nearby bar. It also is a very Italian B&B in the sense that the host does not live next door.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We had a lovely comfortable room at the back so it was quiet at night. The location was unbelievable for quick access to all areas of Matera. The guest house is just inside the Matera ZTL so arriving by car and parking could have been problematic. However, as I'm a disabled driver, Francesco had pulled out all the stops to get me a parking pass. We were able to park 50 metres from the front door. Thanks Francesco - brilliant service!!!
Cons: I hadn't realised that breakfast wasn't provided on site, though there were facilities for making hot drinks. Breakfast was provided by a nearby cafe, which was fine.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: The place is very near to the centre. Incredible location. Very clean and calm appartment. The host is very polite and helpful.
8.8 Excellent
Pros: Everything was fine. Clean and modern room. Comfortable mattress and pillows. Very close to the historic city center.
Cons: The entrance to that very ugly building. The old door and a very large and tall hall that gave you the impression that you were entering a deserted building.
9.2 Excellent
Pros: The location was superb - only 400 metres from the historic centre and I enjoyed the breakfast at the designated cafe .
Cons: The key to the apartment was difficult to use as it was an unusual shape.

Cons: Breakfast
9.6 Excellent
Pros: It’s in the best location, the room (we booked the larger one) was beautiful and every detail was perfect. We loved staying at this cozy place and would definitely come back again!!
Cons: We were told that we can have breakfast at any time we want as we can just order at the restaurant opposite of the apartment, but the kitchen was closed so most things were not available at around 10am. However, they were so kind to prepare coffee and sandwiches for us which again shows this lovely culture and hospitality of the people here. Thanks for the great stay!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Great location. The property had character but with all mod cons, even a little outside sitting area.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Right in the historic city centre.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: The BB is situated near the main streets of the ancient city centre, but it is easy to reach the place with all the luggage you have, because there are lots of stairs in Matera, and there are some hotels at the heart of the city hard to get to. The parking is quite close if you travel by car (and not expensive). Our room was two storeyed, spacious and quite comfortable. The city is quite a touristic place. So the prices here are high. The BB provides you a good place to spend your time in Matera for a reasonable price.
Cons: Italian style breakfast (coffee+local pastry, very tasty, but not nourishing).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect. Very nice Management and staff who supported which extra efforts whenever necessary. The place is located in a great area of the town.

Pros: The owner was really helpful and friendly, helped with the luggage and told us information about Matera with a map. Would have cleaned the room for the second night, but it was not necessary. The location was good and near to the city bus line but stop, so it was easy to transfer to places. We could keep the room until we left in the evening.
Cons: The restaurants were almost closed near by due to winter time and autumn holiday, so basically only three bars in the early evening and one restaurant in the nearby area were open and only one bar late in the evening.

Pros: Everything in general was very good: the room, the parking, and the perfect staff even made us the parking lot, only the bed a bit stiff, but it depends on your likes. The location is perfect, on the edges of the Sassi.
Cons: Precio elevado para estar en temporada baja, unos 75€. High price to be in low season, about € 75.

9.2 Excellent

Pros: Great communication, the owners are extremely friendly; they had a lot of amazing tips about where to go and where to get the best views. You can tell they are passionate about and love their city! Arrived early but was able to check in regardless, and they had no issue at all with me leaving my luggage for a few hours. Great service, location and value for money. Would definitely come back!

Pros: Location. Parking close by and only 50c per hour. Very helpful staff, room clean, very good breakfast.
Cons: I found the mattress and pillow a little too firm for me, but that is very personal thing and should not put anyone off booking.

7.9 Good
Pros: The property is in a fantastic location, one minute's walk from the Church of St Peter Caveoso and overlooking the Belvedere di Murgia national park (rooms don't necessarily have views). The welcome at check-in was very good and Lorenzo was very friendly and helpful, providing good restaurant recommendations.
Cons: Euro 50 for two days of 'valet' parking (considering for the weekend the car does not move) seems a little steep and there do not seem to be other, self-parking options available (or at least the hotel is not able to propose them).
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Location, views, breakfast, restaurant, staff
Cons: Lacking a bit of hanging and draw space
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Everything was perfect. Staff were professional and attentive. Breakfast was fabulous.
Cons: We liked everything.
8.3 Excellent
Pros: It was an interesting hotel- How often are your lodging accommodations in a cave? It was a fun experience! Th room itself was very large with a balcony. It was very modern, new and clean. The modern bathtub was actually in the room! The view was unbelievable-felt like we were in the clouds! Really enjoyed the morning mist.
Cons: I felt the front desk personnel could have been warmer and more informative and welcoming- The bell hops, on the other hand, were wonderful and work hard! There was a lot of walking up to our specific room and it was not easy. One has to be young to accomplish this without worry. Be forewarned, It is definitely worth the experience. Matera is a magical place!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful, immaculate room. Location couldn’t be better. And the staff was wonderful. A bit expensive but worth it.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The position was amazing and the suite quite unique as we were in a cave suite. Breakfast really good in a wonderful cave restaurant.
Cons: I think that the lighting in our room could be improved
7.9 Good
Pros: Location and restaurant view.
Cons: Staff - unprofessional. No parking infront of location, only valet parking for € 25 per day plus each time you want to use your car, it’s another € 5 on the top.
5.0 Okay
Pros: Great feeling of the history of the Sassi in the bedrooms which are part cave structure
Cons: The room is very separate from the facilities so that you have to leave the bedroom in order to get to the breakfast room which means going outside into the public pathway. Similarly to get to Reception area. Can be noisy as the public are immediately outside your bedroom door.
7.3 Good
Pros: It was interesting to stay (partially) in a cave. The rooms are built into the cliffs. I liked the balcony of the room. The food itself was not spectacular but, in general, it was good.
Cons: Some services were lacking but these can be rectified. There was no information sheet (that is easy to do - write on the computer & print). For example, I was not told that there was a bar which had a library and that we would have a welcome drink. In terms of the dining room, they are trying - but sometimes service is slow (cold capucchino, being served the first course - e.g. pasta before choosing your wine). Again, these problems can easily be rectified. They are trying and do welcome feedback. I am a professor of management and they were grateful for the few suggestions I made.
8.0 Excellent
Pros: The room and the view from the hotel were significant and impressive! Room was clean and staffs were friendly. Breakfast at the hotel restaurtant was rich and gorgeous.
Cons: Nothing.
6.7 Good
Pros: The location is great. The room was big and according to the town. Breakfast was delicious, with a lot of selections for everyone. Internet worked perfectly.
Cons: For the price I was expecting a bathtube, not just a shower.
7.7 Good
Pros: all, excellent design, unique location and environment
Cons: restaurant is not cheap
7.6 Good
Pros: Interesting, excellent standard of accommodation, great setting and area.
Cons: 2 power cuts which we had to tell the hotel about rather than them telling us.
2.4 Mediocre
Pros: Breakfast was great
Cons: Poor service, damp hotel rooms, very rocky walkway slipery walkways slipery showers never again
6.4 Good
Pros: helpfull staff
Cons: Not 4 star standart though have to admitt that having hotel rooms in very old dwellings/caves have limits

9.0 Excellent
Pros: The breakfast was superb. The spa was fun. The location was great.
Cons: We didn't understand that the full bed was up a scary flight of stairs. Also, I thought we could get an extra bed because there were four of us old women, but couldn't. It would be great for less and younger people.
4.0 Okay
Pros: The only nice thing is the location
Cons: I didn’t like the bed it was very uncomfortable I didn’t sleep all night. You have to pay to use the pool which is ridiculous.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: Beautiful room, very clean and quiet. Very good breakfast. We used the thermal spa and it was fantastic and very relaxing.
Cons: Parking in Matera is a nightmare
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Great location & wonderful spa. Nice big walk-in shower. Loved the room built into the older cave homes.
Cons: It was a little bit of a hike up to the main (piano) level for meals & tours, etc, but well worth the effort!
10.0 Excellent
Pros: We stayed in a dependance room which was lovely, away from the main part of the hotel and enjoyed the independence of our own space and the outdoor area looking over the Sassi. The room facilities were excellent but we had an unexplained extra trundle bed in our room (booked for a couple) which meant we had no indoor seating. However it didn’t bother us very much as the weather was lovely and we sat outside. The parking facility at Autoservizi Damasco was excellent and very well organised - both on arrival, at departure and on a day trip we made during our stay. Don’t bother trying to find the hotel when you first arrive (if you’re driving) - just drive straight to the parking garage on Recinto XX Settembre and they will transport you & your luggage to reception (down stairs & via a lift) with no hassle whatsoever.
Cons: The breakfast was very good but we decided it was easier and less fuss to go into the main square and have a real Italian coffee and delicious pastry for breakfast at Gran Caffe in Piazza Vittorio Veneto
8.8 Excellent
Pros: The underground spa is fantastic and the view from the balcony outside the room is a pleasure.
Cons: I don't like having to pay for the underground pool, + spa facilities as the room is quite expensive. But the location is very good and the spa is one of the best I've been to.
9.6 Excellent
Pros: Love experiencing the Roman Thermal bath quite relaxing.

Pros: The muffins at breakfast are to die for and the location is perfect particularly for someone arriving by car and needing parking which is available in the hotel's underground car park.
Cons: When the AC is off the room odour is stuffy.
7.9 Good
Pros: Location, modern installations, cleanliness, attentive staff. Breakfast buffet, outside terrace to have breakfast. Parking (extra cost) on the premises
Cons: In general, the hotel met or exceeded expectations. The only item to improve was that the parking spaces were limited, and there was no guarantee that space will be available upon check in. Fortunately, I was able to park the first night in spaces outside the garage and inside the garage the second night.
10.0 Excellent
Pros: On departure I paid for our additional night. It turned out this was an over payment. The hotel worked quickly to ensure reimbursement. impressive honesty and integrity. Many thanks.
