Driving Playa del Carmen van rentals is an ideal way to see this beach city in Mexico, south of Cancun. If you are visiting this tropical town with friends, you can all travel together, arriving at your destination at the same time and making sure that you don't lose track of anyone. If you are in town with your family, you can all travel around together with plenty of room for everyone's backpacks, purses, toys, recreational equipment, picnic supplies, and beach gear. In a Playa del Carmen van rental, you can explore paradise on your own terms.
For those considering Playa del Carmen van rentals, remember to mention any add-ons that you want when you make your reservation. Not having a hands-free GPS navigation device or being without a car seat for your son or daughter could certainly throw a wrench into your vacation plans, so you want to do everything you can to make sure that the car rental agency has the add-on available when you arrive to collect your van.
For Americans to drive Playa del Carmen van rentals, you must have Mexican insurance, specifically Mexican liability insurance. Because insurance through an American auto policy or through a credit card will not work in Mexico, you will have to buy the insurance offered by the car rental agency. Research how much this will be before you leave for vacation so that you will not be faced with any unexpected costs when you arrive to collect your rental van.
When you are driving your rental van in and around Playa del Carmen, you will most likely be driving on one of the major toll roads, the 305 and the 180. Tolls are paid in pesos, so make sure that when you set off on a road trip, you have plenty of pesos. As you are driving, you will also encounter many, many speed bumps or topes. Topes are in urban areas as well as in more remote areas, seemingly in the middle of nowhere. Keep an eye out for speed bumps and slow down as you approach them so that you do not damage your rental van.
25% of our users found a van rental in Playa del Carmen for $72 or less
Book your van rental in Playa del Carmen at least 3 days before your trip in order to get a below-average price

Passenger van

Pick up took almost an hour. They didn't have the van we reserved. Then they held part of our deposit because the drivers seat was barely damp when we returned and claimed they could not rent it out even though it was 5pm and no one was picking up since they closed at 6. Never renting from this company again!

When I arrived, they told me that they did not have the car. i then went to the rental agency next door and they coincidentally has the same car at but at double the price. The cars all came from the same lot and had no Budget or other agency stickers to distinguish one from another. When I returned the car, there was a person waiting for the car who has just experienced the same scam.: rented online from Budget at one price, was told there was no such car on arrival, went next door and paid double for fhe same car. Total scam.

Price showing on the time of booking is fair. When you get to the place to pick up the rental, is very expensive. Good service over all but expensive.

Renting with Hertz, Dollar, Firefly & Thrifty in Playa Del Carmen , is a huge scam and waist of time . The people in front of me, he tried to force them to pay 500$US extra for 4 days rental ! When it came to my turn, he said my premium car wasn’t available, there were economy cars available, but he wouldn’t give me that, because it was already reserved ! Basically if you pay a promo price online, they will no honor it, even if it’s on the Hertz website . Just a bunch of crooked people .

You charged me although I had cancelled the reservation two minutes after booking it. This is a scam. You advertise really low prices, then I want to take the insurance, then you refuse to sell it to me. Then I cancel. Then I receive a charge on my credit card. This is a pure scam.

Major runaround, they would not accept that my credit card carried car insurance (as if World Mastercard is obscure) then the demand for an exorbitant deposit, basically the value of the car. I had no choice but to walk away. There were three customers in the shop while I was there, all three customers had an infuriating experience and walked away. If I had to guess, they simply didn’t have enough cars and were looking to see how much they could scam their customers for the cars they did have.

The category under the reservation was for a premium 7 seater Dodge Durango or equivalent, which comfortably seats 7 adults for long rides. At the store they informed me the category was a Mitsubishi Xpander, that barely fits 2 kids in the back row. After much insisting I signed the contract and walked to the parking lot only to find the Xpander as a basic car with not nearly enough inside space for my group. I proceed to cancel the rental since the product was different from what was sold.
