Pool is good
Very nice wellness & sports facilities
We stayed at this hotel only for 3 days, at the door you are welcomed by many belman and doors are opened by females in white uniforms, very classy. The person who checks you in brings you to the room, we had to call for our bags as they may had forgotten to bring them up. You have free internet phone to call international, the beds are like haven, so make sure you have a wakeup call in the morning. The views are really nice overlooking the river. Upstairs on the 14th floor you can enjoy a drink overlooking the skyline of Shanghai, just beautiful. Breakfast is very expensive (118 -270 rmb), but that comes with a 5 star hotel, service is very good expect one morning when I had a breakfast meeting, we had the feeling that our plates were taken away, so we could leave. But if you can get a good roomrate at this hotel as we did and an upgrade, this is the hotel to be. Metro is 15 minutes walk that is the only downside of the this location, but what do you expect there is always a rollsroys parked outside. The hotel has a number of luxury shops and a hairdressor my wife used, price was oke. The hotel is very clean and very thing looks news. The curtains open automatically and best of all you have a nepresso cofffee machine. We had a separate closet for our clothes and the bathroom had a TV in front of the bathtube.
This is the best Peninsula Hotel in the World.
Well styled in keeping with period of building
Staff very helpful, polite and cheerful. Most spoke some english, particularly at reception. Hotel in the grand art nouveau style. Nice feel. Permanent bad drains smell in lobby area. Tried the two main restaurants, adequate only. Bar food fair. Breakfast very good. Incessant works, both in and out doors disturbing.
The front staff was very helpfull. they work dard to understand the guests requests. The internet business office. You should drastically improve it or get rid of it altogether. It is unbecoming of you.
Fabulous views of the Bund and Pudong, the soft bed! (a rarity in China)
great location, rooms absolutely ok, especially the ones with a river view. The french named but chines produced red wine (in the minibar) was ridiculuously overpriced and among the bottom 5 wines I've ever tasted. The cheese platter (room service) was so poor it was laughable, again insanely overpriced.
Its location in Kowloon: close to all major shopping, traveling out, walking, view fron the window and outstanding stuff. No, I liked every thing
Very central location, polite staff and the view of the city. I always feel safe in this Hotel.
view, location lack of hairdryer in 5 star hotel?

Location is good. convenient for travel not like a 4-star hotel at all. small room and beddings look like has been used for ages.
Location - ten mins from Subway, five mins to the bund Old and tired hotel, behind main street with smokey rooms as they can not offer non smoking room

Location Old and worn rooms.
Location We booked a superior nonsmoking room that was listed as one King and two single beds. The first room we were shown stunk of smoke/only two single beds. The second room was not smelly but had one king sized bed. The hotel refused to provide a rollaway.
nothing but location Everything but location. Staffs are horrible and rude. Room is not clean and dark. It's loud when I should sleep - I heard staffs are talking each other on the hall. Blankets are all over the floor on the hall - hope they didn't use it for my bed.
Location is the best in Shanghai tour. Close to Nanjing East subway station(Line 2, Less than a block away from the Bund boardwalk (to see Pudong skyscrapers). Restaurants, Shops and stores all in walking distance. Excellent bathroom. Not many staffs can speak English.
Location Anybody speaks English, the service is poor, the room was dirty, nobody helps with the bags, the hosting service was bad. We do not think the hotel is 4 stars.
Location is walking distance to the bund Doesn't meet 4 star hotel rate at all. Bathroom has smells, and you hear any noise from next doors. Overall not impressed experience.

Near the Beautiful scenery of the river. Quiet, but not far from restaurants or CBD. Nice staff bed size. Not that near subway station
Unique and charming in its old-fashioned way. Could be great for a very short stay. Large rooms. Good choice for a budget hotel. Definitively not a 4-star hotel. There were two things that made us change hotels during our stay: 1. Humidity: nothing dried in the room, on the contrary, dry clothes got wet in the luggage... No wonder there is mould in the bathroom. 2. Ongoing works in the neighbourhood and especially on the Bund, inaccessible. When finished (for the expo), it will certainly be great but in the meanwhile I would certainly opt for another area. This, of course, is by no means the hotel's fault.
perfect location, beatifull old building with history, nice for architecture lovers everything inside is old, smelly and under expectations, hotel need general refurbishing, breakfast room with unpleasant smell
the location was very nice, at walking distance of the Bund and the view from some rooms is great especially at night. The hotel is a lot of old glory and if it would be done up nicely it would be a magnificent place to be. The western food restaurant had very good western meals. Unfortunately, the hotel is a bit neglected at parts (the room we stayed in). This includes not very clean. The bed was typically chinese: very hard
Very well located, wonderful architectural features, large rooms and very friendly helpful staff
Room and friendly trainees Difficulty understanding bill add ons
I love this hotel, yes it is a little faded in places, like a beautiful old woman who has led an exciting life. The elegant proportions of the rooms and bathrooms, the large windows that can be opened and the wonderful old teak floor in the rooms and upper floors more than compensated. The position of the hotel, the service and the English of the staff were also excellent. Breakfast was good, lots of choice. I found this the perfect antidote to an earlier stay this month in a luxurious modern five star, it felt more like home, "Europe". Both my husband and I enjoyed good strong showers with plenty of hot water. The beds were comfortable with tasteful white sheets and duvets. The curtains and seat covers needed ironing, it needed some redecoration although I found everything in perfect working order. I would love to very conservatively redecorate it, but then it would move into a higher price bracket, all in all very good value.
The character and location of the hotel
We did enjoy staying in this hotel and its nice services . We like its historical sense very much. Its location is very good. In general it is indeed worth having time in this hotel.
The location is excellent. The carpet in the hallways and in the room had a dirty appearance and was full of stains. Some of the caulking around the bathtub and sink was black. Some of the staff were not helpful at all, most had a very poor understanding of English.
I enjoyed the spa services, very professional. It was convenient location. I did not like the dirty carpets in the room and hallway. This was giving very bad impression on overall stay. This hotel needs a face lift to be fully appreciated again. Also the room was very small. and it was hard to adjust the temperature in the room. The internet was expensive and worked very poorly. I asked for nonsmoking room but did not get it
Superb position in Shanghai on the river with excellent views and also situated on the historic Bund.
The hotel was ok for the price of a room. The room was quite big and the bathroom too. Both were very clean. The breakfast was ok too. Even though the hotel's location looks excellent on the map, it is not as central as it seems. To get to the centre of the city or to the nearest subway you have to walk quite a bit. And there are many construction sites on the way. However, at the moment it seems that the whole city is one big construction site, so you can pobably not get away from them anywhere.
location very good to the Bund and lively at night, very nice view of both banks of the river some bad smelling of carpets (I think?), maybe due to people still allowed to smoke indoors in China. Actually, same smell we found in most other places so not much you can do about it I believe
Position of hotel and room overlooking Bund and River Room originally allocated filthy and small
Staff were very accommodating and were able to assist us despite our lack of chinese language. The only thing we found uncomfortable were the beds, and we thought the showers could have been more powerful, but we still very much enjoyed our stay, and would love to come back when the bund is finished.
Good location, if you take a room with a river view, in front of the Bund and Pudong. Difficult access, by walk or by taxi, with many works made on the Bund for the 2010 Expo.
Location was very good. Nice hotel and helpful staff. We enjoyed our stay there.
the room was very comfortable - perfect location for exploring around shanghai. only stayed 1 night as a stop over before continuing on my journey, but gym was very good. i arrived at around 9am - normally check in is at 2pm; i asked if they could accommodate me; they said they could, but i would have to pay half a day extra!!! i have done this before at other hotels and never been an issue. also, first check in counter the staff said no room available so i waited an extra half hour and spoke to someone else who said there was a room available! crazy! also rooms looking a bit dated now, but otherwise comfortable; and yes i did pay the extra half a day! :(
The location of the hotel is good. The pictures shown in bookin.com website is different from waht we got. the rooms needs refubishment.
- Good breakfast selection Oldfashion shower
Closed to city center. Staff friendly. Have to modernize furniture of the room.
spa was very nice and all staff were extremely helpful - definitely a pleasant place to be based out of, and a very central location for such a big, spread out city. lobby slightly dated, but possible it was just Chinese sense of decor. Recommend signing up for breakfast package, as we did not and ended up paying $50/breakfast for 2 which is ridiculously expensive over there
the people working there really try their best and the service is excellent.
Great executive lounge, comfortable rooms, friendly personnel. The bathrooms still no separate shower and very small
Location and convenience to subway and expressway. The shower was the worst that I had experienced in many hotels and that water smelled foul. It was impossible to regulate the water temperature. If I had more time I would have switched rooms.
Location, price/quality, gourmet corner! Room service comes very early (7.00-8.00 in the morning)
should be free no $21/day
Modern, great service,, good food and wine. Convent to city and shopping. I will stay again.
The room smelt a bit like humid carpet. I missed having a small coffee/tea station in the room.
Luxury and Class Nothing
Weight room was spacious, with new equipment and quite. The treadmills have nice TV's mounted on them with many English Channels. They had a nice Jacuzzi, steam room, and sauna in the locker rooms. The pools was nice. View from the room was spectacular. The prices at the Spa were ridiculous. Even though we had 200rmb per person off vouchers, it would still be highway robbery at those prices. If you know Shanghai well, you can get a classy 5 star massage for half the price.
