The pick up Car was filthy, carpet was filled with dog hair. There was food and drink inside the doors and cup holders animal cookies all over. Car smelled of cigarettes. Had the car for 2 weeks couldn’t get rid of the the smell. I had to thoroughly clean and vacuum the car before I’d put my family in it.7.2 Good

I tried to contact customer service at kayak because I purchased vehicle coverage it enterprise does not honor it and I wanted to cancel it for that reason. However, each time I called, I was routed to enterprise and couldn’t get a refund. I will not use your service again9.6 Wonderful

Yes. I picked it up in a small town and they told me some things that Charlotte staff said wasn't true but they gave me a $10 discount when I dropped it off 2 make up the differenceCons:
I was really nervous picking up the car because it had animal hair on many of the seats and the floor mat was torn and there were a lot of rather large scratches on the hood. They kept reassuring me that I wouldn't be charged for any of that but in the past I've had them be real sticklers about it so asked them to write it on my check out papers. They kind of acted like I was crazy to be concerned about being charged for the damaged :-)6.4 Okay

The inside of the car was fine, and what we expected. Pick-up and drop off were super quick and convenient.Cons:
The car was filthy dirty outside. So bad, I took photos. Don't know how they can release a car in those conditions! Also, we picked up late in the day, and the day we wanted to return the car, they were not open that late, so we had to pay for an entire extra day for one hour. On top of that, I just noticed they charged us a $10 fee for giving them an extra day of busines!!! This should not happen. Other companies we rent from allow you to return anytime. Guess they have a camera that tells them when you dropped it off [or the keys in the slot], to make sure you are on time. Avis should get with the times!8.8 Very good

Car was the same size as advertised, and the rate given by Kayak was exactly what we were charged. We even got a refund for leaving more gas than we got! This was our first experience using Kayak and overall it was great, especially the rate in comparison to others.Cons:
Car had not been cleaned outside, just "watered" down. They did not go over dents in the car and when we noticed drove back to let them know.One location in Shelby

We couldn't find the drop off location, searched for 20 minutes. Google maps took us to the wrong place so I was 17 minutes late and was charged 45 additional dollars!! We were with someone raised in Virginia Beach and she couldn't find the place either. Very frustrated...8.0 Very good

Cons:
We were initially put in a car that reeked of smoke. (Our first clue of a problem should have been the chatty employee that talked about 'so many cars are returned with a smokey smell'... as though that would somehow make this seem normal.) We had to complain to get the car changed, but once we complained, the car was quickly swapped out. IMO, the guy wanted to unload the car on us - we were doing a long distance one-way rental... he probably wanted us to take the car so that he could remove it from his inventory.2.0 Poor

I never got to pick up the car. I ran into traffic and was literally 3 minutes late. I called ahead to let them know and asked if they could stay open 5 min so I could get the car. Instead they told me they closed promptly at 5:00 and there was nothing they could do about it. Extremely poor customer serviceOne location in Shelby

The "full-size SUV" was more mid-size than full-size. We didn't have any trunk space and then the car's maintenance required sign popped up on the first day we had the car. The Hertz employee said the car had Blind-Spot Monitoring - it did NOT.5.2 Fair

Staff was very friendly and helpful. Van was ready when requested and was clean and full of gas. Check engine light came on while we had the van but that could happen to any vehicle at any time. Overall good experience.Cons:
Just that check engine light. But that could happen to anyone anywhere with any vehicle.Along with a 9 passenger van, rental companies in Shelby offer 7 passenger vans, 8 passenger vans and 12 passenger vans.
