Pros: Nothing Cons: Bill totally wrong. Never closed out. Got email qith wrong contract and amount. Never called me back. Never answered phone at Asheville airport. No wonder you are bankrupt!!
2.0 MediocreNov 15 2019
Pros: Every step of this process was horrible. Rude, disorganized associates at pick up. The car was still dirty when I got into it and all the tire pressures were dangerously low. The drop off location wasn't operational and it took over an hour to get someone on the phone who could tell me how to return the car. 2 days later I'm still trying to close out my reservation with them. I will never rent with Hertz again.Cons: Absolutely everything. Horrible experience, will never use Hertz again.

Pros: Staff was great. Understaffed though! Long line to get car! Took 45 min.Cons: More help at counter

Pros: The staff at the pick up point was very kind and the process was quick and easy!Cons: More explanation about drop off. I understand they don’t have a lot of control over how the place ais designed but when I arrived it was confusing and left with some unease that I was just to leave the keys in the car and go. I wasn’t explained this and I wasn’t fond of not being able talk to ne one

Cons: It had a number of piece of trash in the car.
8.0 ExcellentJul 18 2018
No receiptPros: Cheapest rental and wonderful car.Cons: Couldn’t find my rental contract to send a receipt so does that mean I get the car for free since I never received a receipt upon returning the car?
6.0 GoodMar 13 2018
Pros: The car was very nice.Cons: The pick up was awful. The agent did not realize the drop off was at a different location and she had to redo the paperwork. Then she charged the wrong amount, so she had to do the paperwork again. She got it right the third time. When I finally got to the car, I saw the gas tank was at 3/8. I had to walk all the way back to the agent because the rental agreement showed a full tank. I won't know if I got everything corrected or not until I get the charge on my credit card (the agent at the drop off was unable to print me a receipt). I expect more from Hertz.

Pros: Drop off was VERY easy.Cons: Because I booked it through here and not directly through Enterprise, they had a VERY hard time finding my reservation. Super inconvenient. Will not do that again. Enterprise itself was great, though, so in the future I will just book directly through them.

Pros: Did not have car I reserved. Bold faced lied about not having other vehicles available.
5.6 OkayJun 1 2019
Pros: Fast pick-up and drop-offCons: Car smelled like smoke. It was frustrating to have to re-fill the car to 3/4 of a tank - it felt like a scam to get us to put more gas than necessary in the car.

Horrible experience - will never returnCons: I was unable to pick up my rental car - my reservation was for noon and I got there a couple of minutes early and they had already closed. The lights were off, there were no cars in the lot, it was clear the employees had packed up well before I got there. To boot, my reservation was for a minivan but there was no minivan in the lot. I wonder what they were planning on renting me? I called corporate, there was no way to get in touch with a local branch, and they said there was nothing threy could do to help me. There were no other minivans available in a 70 mile radius. They did not offer to try to help me problem solve, they offered no explanation or apology for the branch closing early - they simply said I should have been there 15 minutes prior to the reservation time. That was NEVER communicated to me in any of the documentation I received about this reservation. I have never experienced such poor customer service. What a waste of time. Hertz, Avis, Dollar are all superior in their efforts to assist customers in need. I will never rent from Enterprise again.

Why reservePros: Location,Cons: I reserved a premium sedan, the options I had was compact, mini van or a truck none which I wanted. If I’m not getting what reserved why bother reserving other than just holding spot? Very poor experience, I don’t drive big trucks, but that was my only option. Parking and rough ride made for difficult weekend

4.0 OkayJun 19 2020
Pros: The staff was pleasant at pick up. Although I did not get the car I expected, I was thankful I got a car because other travelers who reserved a car ahead of time were told, there were no cars left????Cons: I chose to reserve a car that was listed as managers special, and was under the impression that I would get at least a intermediate size car, I got I dirty Ford Focus, looked like it had not been sanitized and the carpet was dirty under the seats, center console was dirty, but since the counter agent was saying that was all they had available, unless I wanted to pay more - what recourse did I have?

Cons: At pick up, Eizabeth was okay. I had to wait more than 20 minutes for a car, after waiting on line at the desk. I had a reservation and I am a Gold Card member so I was not happy about the long wait. Car was not very clean, especially windshield. Very low on windshield fluid, dried up during my rental. At drop off not signage where to drop a Hertz car. No Hertz people in the garage. Have to go to Terminal to turn in key and get final ....after wait on ling.

Car was located at off-site rental location, not aCons: The car I reserved was located 22 miles away off airport location. Internet booking did not indicate this at all. Agent at airport had me pay higher rate for a one day rental then gave incorrect information regarding swapping out the cars the next day. Paid twice as much for a smaller car and endured the hassle of dealing with the whole mix-up while on vacation. Budget just lost another customer.

"Reservation" does not mean that Budget will actuaCons: I went to pick up my mid-sized SUV to find out that Budget did not have it and wouldn't have it. They indicated that they were not responsible for this error as someone else who was supposed to return the vehicle extended and they have no control over that. They offered a "full sized" car or 4-door pick up instead - for a higher cost (of course because they were more expensive options). Seems like if they don't have the car they promised, they should make it right without additional expense. I did agree to the sedan they offered (what choice did I have?) and then compared their list of scratches to what was really on the car. Many more on the car than what they reported, including ding in windshield and tape residue all over the inside of the windshield, which I had to scrape off with a razor so that I could see clearly on my trip. The car was dirty - food in the seat and smeared on the back of the front seat. I will pass on Budget as an option in the future.

Took my reservation. Didn't have a car for me.Pros: Said the cars that were there were reserved for other people. I said on well I have a reservation also, how come you aren't honoring mine but you're honoring theirs? No response. Got upset with me like it was my fault. Finally reached the conclusion that I could take a 12 passenger van as its the only car there that wasn't reserved. Again I don't know why my reservation wasn't as important. Anyway, I booked an economy car, so when I asked for a discount on a 12 passenger van as it is way to big for my use and will cost way more in gas mileage, she balked at me and acted as if I were crazy for even suggesting such a thing. Terrible customer service and overall lack of understanding of how to run a business.

When to book a rental car in Asheville

Top tips for renting a car in Asheville

  • Asheville has plenty to offer, from a vibrant arts scene to historical buildings, and, of course, the Blue Ridge Mountains, which are a 1-hour drive from the center. Don’t miss out on any of Asheville’s attractions and rent a car to get the most out of your visit. Many of the outer attractions, including the Blue Ridge Mountains, are not available with public transport and a car will give you the most flexibility to explore the city and surroundings in your own time.
  • Asheville Regional Airport features five on-site car rental companies which offer vehicles for all tastes. Follow the signs out of the terminal to their service desks and pick up a car to be in Asheville center in less than half an hour via the I-26 W. The transfer will take almost an hour with public transport, so the most convenient way to start your time is with a rental car directly from the airport. If arriving by train or bus, there are also car rental locations in the city -- for instance, in Tunnel Road or Patton Avenue.
  • Asheville has wonderfully breathtaking scenic routes; however, these routes are also very steep in some places and it is important to shift to a lower gear instead of breaking down on your way. If braking too much, the brakes can overheat and, in the worst case scenario, stop working altogether. Drive slowly through the winding roads in and around Asheville as well, especially in winter, with snow and ice possibly on the streets. Ensure the rental car has winter tires, make sure to adjust your speed, and have some extra snacks and thermos flasks ready in the car in case you get stuck.
  • The I-240 goes right through the heart of Asheville and the I-40 is a major route connecting many places, so these roads can be congested when commuters come into Asheville in the morning between around 7-9am and leave the city between 5-8pm. If going west, the US-23 can be an alternate route, depending on your ultimate goal.
  • 25% of our users found rental cars in Asheville for $46 or less
  • Book your rental car in Asheville at least 2 weeks before your trip in order to get a below-average price
  • Off-airport rental car locations in Asheville are around 43% cheaper than airport locations on average
  • Mini rental cars in Asheville are around 59% cheaper than other car types, on average

  • If you’re planning to venture out into the mountains, it is recommended to opt for a 4-wheel-drive car, as there are gravel roads that will require additional road grip. A 4-wheel-drive car is also a good choice for winter driving conditions and is a real all-rounder for the area.

  • It is important to always adapt speed to the prevailing weather and road conditions, but general regulations allow 25 mph in residential areas and only 10 mph around schools or pedestrian areas. Up to 55 mph is permitted on rural roads, and 55-60 mph on most freeways. Keep an eye out for signs that indicate speed limits.

  • The average gas price in Asheville lies at $2.55 per gallon, but gas stations like Sam’s Club or Hot Spot can offer rates as low as $2.35, so look out for those. When venturing out of the city, into the forest, and up through mountainous areas, make sure to refill the tank beforehand, as gas stations are scarce up there.

  • On-street parking is metered in Asheville and costs around $1.50 per hour, but check the sign for details. On Sundays and public holidays, on-street parking is free. There are also parking garages to consider, such as the Civic Center Garage with its daily maximum of about $10, the Wall Street Garage, or the Rankin Avenue Garage.
