My trip Chicago to Phoenix was good. I slept most of the way. They charge for everything now. Carry-on was ~$50. I brought my own snacks. Seats close together ( well, it is an airplane), but luckily I’ve been vaccinated. It was a round trip and on both, the flight was delayed an hour. The delays were from lightening storms. It was ok.

Cons: "The CTA had a detour leading into the airport we were taken 40 minutes out of our way on the blue line leadijg into Ohare. Get to the ticket counter NO ONE IS THERE. Finally a representative leaving sees me trying to get help and gives me a paper with the number for frontier says I will have to flig"

Front tier airlines does not allow you to pick your seats before hand nor does it allow you to select baggage and the app, it is recessed for whatever reason. The seats are extremely tiny the tree table is so small you can barely fit an English muffin on it. There is no entertainment whatsoever, there is no Internet on the plane, and if you want anything to eat or drink besides water you will be paying for it. I’m sorry to say but flying on frontier was more like a punishment for me. I always fly American and wanted to save a few dollars what a mistake! With American most the planes that I have flown in have free movie entertainment and everybody seat the seats are comfortable And recline. And the snacks are free along with the soda. Please think twice before flying frontier."

Our 3.5 hour flight turned into a 7 hour flight after being unable to land because of storm conditions, circling for over an hour, and being rerouted to land at another airport for refueling before finally heading to our destination. It has been a week and our backs are still bothering us. We flew Frontier because it looked cheaper but after paying for luggage, seats, and food we would have been way better off to have flown on Southwest. We will never fly Frontier again."

It took almost 2 hours before the bags came out of the carousel. There were no Frontier employees to help. Sky Harbor employees recommended we call the Frontier line and several passengers did. It wasn't just our flight either, the Frontier flight that landed an hour before us was still waiting and didn't get their bags until 90 minutes post landing. This was the worst customer service I've ever experienced. The high bag fees only added insult to injury."

Pros: "Likely the most uncomfortable plane I've ever been on. Seats feature zero padding, the inability to recline, and a tray table the size of a DVD case. I'm 5' 9" 148 pounds, young and very healthy. I left the plane with a twisted up neck like I've never had before. I landed safely so I MUST be thankful for that, but if I was booking I would want to know this information. Since I'm the wiser now I will not book with Frontier again. Also it was an extra $90 for my CARRY ON round trip. It notified me it would be extra when I booked online but didn't specify how much. What a surprise. I spent more on the fees for the bag than I spent on the bag itself (and most of the contents for that matter)."

After the fact, I was waiting to get to my seat behind a mom, and her approximately 6 year old son. As I am waiting to find my seat an attendant says to mean, "sir can you please find your seat, we can not back away until you sit down." At this point I am thinking what in the neck do you think it is I am trying to do, but I keep my mouth shut. Then, of course, I have a window seat. So I ask the people in my row to kindly allow me to get into my seat. While an elderly woman is in the process of moving so I can get to my seat, the same attendant says to me in a very demeaning tone "sir please find a seat." Again, I keep my mouth shut, but I am about to lose it on this guy. I finally am moving into my seat, and the attendant announcing over the speaker says, "we can play musical chairs later." I am just disgusted with the way these situations were carried out by the frontier staff. First I pretty much get 60 dollars stolen from me, then I get yelled at and made fun of because I was being kind, and not bashing through people to get to my seat. Not a very pleasant situation, I will never fly frontier again, spirit staff is way nicer, and the prices are cheaper too."

I also had to put my backpack under my seat, even though it was stated numerous times on their website that it would be too big, and I had to pay $40 to make it a carry-on, when there was no room in the overhead bins. Their customer service line AND website stated I could be charged up to DOUBLE that ($80) if I had to pay for it at the gate. I looked it up, and I would have payed less on at least two other carriers because of the extra charges. This is information that should CLEARLY be stated when listing the costs of a flight, not "covered" under "additional costs may apply" or some such legalese"

Cons: "I have to be 45 minutes early to check in, I showed up 37 minutes early. They were VERY firm about the 8 minute difference which was disappointing but ultimately it was my fault I missed the flight and I accept responsibility for that. I didn’t make a fuss or try to negotiate, as soon as they told me that taking my flight was not an option I accepted it and moved on. My problem was with the level of service I received. I was very calm and polite with them and they were very uninterested in helping me find a solution for another flight. They seemed annoyed that I even asked them to help me explore other options . There were some annoyed sighs, they looked and shrugged at me without saying anything one time but the most annoying thing was that I was cutoff while talking to them multiple times. Even when I was just saying things like “hey sorry this is a complicated situation but I appreciate your help, the most important thing is making it to my destination on time not the price”. The options they were offering me were valued based on price, I wanted them to look at arrival time first and price second but they cut me off and started talking about other things. Other times when I’m saying something they would just turn away while I’m in the middle of my sentence and ask a co-worker a question as if I was never speaking to them in the first place. In the end they said I need to speak to the supervisor. I asked if they could get her for me and they said no because she was in another part of the airport at the moment, they have walkie talkies so I asked if they could at least contact her through there and let her know about my situation. They didn’t do that either, instead they just told me to wait and keep an eye out for her. They said she’s short with curly hair. That’s it. So I’m supposed to just sit and wait for someone that I’ve never seen before in my life. Apparently she walked by and I missed her because she wasn’t dressed the same as her other employees but the employees saw her and didn’t bother to get her attention and point her in my direction. After another few minutes of waiting I asked them where she was and they said “oh she walked by you didn’t see her?” The airline was not busy at all either so there is absolutely no excuse for this awful service. Once I arrived at my destination I told my friends and family about my experience and they had their own horror stories with spirit airlines too. The terrible experience made me very hesitant to fly with them again but the fact that my friends & family have had their own separate awful experiences made me 100% sure that I never want to use this airline again. I ended up taking a flight with United Airlines who had employees that were way friendlier and more helpful."

Cons: "We arrived at the airport and were through security over an hour prior to our flight's takeoff. We decided to grab breakfast at a restaurant approximately 2-3 gates down from our gate. We arrived back at our gate 17 minutes prior to the departure time and the door to the entryway was already closed. No spirit attendants remained at the gate to assist or inform us about who we should speak to regarding this matter. We sat at the gate and watched our flight take over 15 minutes to pull away from entryway with no one available to direct us. After the plane pulled away, a few Spirit staff members came back out the door to the gate, and when we inquired as to why our names were not called throughout the airport (as we heard many other names called while sitting at the airport) they informed us we would have to talk to the customer service desk if we had an issue. We went to the customer service desk and they put us on another flight, which did not depart until late that day. We went to the customer service desks of 3 other airlines attempting to find a sooner flight, and when we explained Spirit closed the gates 17 minutes early, each airline stated that the industry standard is 10 minutes. Not only does Spirit not follow the industry standard, but they also shut the gates 2minutes prior to Spirit's standard which is 15 minutes before the flight. Additionally, no effort was made to call our names prior to the flight, as is customary with all airlines. Two days later, we went to board our return flight, which a week prior to our trip we paid $585 to change to that day, and when we went to check in we were not scheduled to be on that return flight. We showed proof of switching our flight and luckily the attendant was able to get us on that flight, however, we were extremely rushed getting through security and due to Spirit's mistake almost missed this flight as well. If no seats would have been available we would not have been able to get home despite paying to switch the flight a week in advanced. Overall, we were very disappointed with our experience traveling with Spirit and would not recommend the airline to anyone. We are frequent travelers for both business and recreation and have never experienced such poor customer service."

Spirit gets you from point A to point B, safely but there's nothing enjoyable about it. Also, on the flight back we waited on the runway almost 45 minutes for an open terminal. We were about 30 minutes early but that wouldn't explain the terminal opening up 15 mins after our expected arrival time. However, I don't know if this was Spirit's fault or the airport's."

People had to walk up one at a time and ask to confirm what was happening and that we were all at the correct gate. Two hours after our flight was supposed to take off, there was finally an announcement letting us know that there was a delay and our gate would be changed so we needed to move out of the way so another flight could use the gate, but not to too far because they didn't know when or where our flight would be leaving from. It was chaotic and disorganized for no reason. I understand that delays happen but the lack of communication was unacceptable."

I am also severely disgusted by the airlines that include a dozen hidden fees but don't inform you of them when you are booking your ticket. Cons: "We had got stuck in traffic on the way to O'hare yet still arrived MORE than 45 minutes before our flight, but the Spirit airlines crew did not even give us the opportunity to ATTEMPT to check in to get our boarding passes. We missed our flight and are now out all of the money we had spent to go enjoy our first wedding anniversary together. This is unacceptable... While I understand that traffic issues fall outside of the airline's responsibility - SHOWING EMPATHY toward our situation could have made things easier, but they didn't - just very cold, non-customer service friendly, garbage. Perhaps if the Spirit airlines team was better at checking people in at the terminal, instead of having a 'who cares' mentality and allowing a 35 person line to be AT A STAND STILL, perhaps we could have made the plane, and I currently could have been writing an amazing review in Florida right now, but I'm not. I am in Indiana, trying to fight with the airline, the travel insurance agency, and others trying to re-coop my losses. this was an overall terrible experience, and I feel like a fool even attempting to try doing this. Cons: "There's a a rule that states you can't check in after 45 minutes before your flight. That's annoying and unnecessary. I've ran late before with other airlines, but was able to check in and easily go get on the plane. Even if I didn't make it though because going through security took too long, what's the problem with the agents at the gate having to look for my next flight option? Because of this rule and me running behind for my 9:10 am flight, I missed it, and I had to wait 10 hours in the airport for the next one. Next time I fly, I will be avoiding Spirit airlines if it comes up as an option."

Cons: "First, the gate swited twice. Flight was delayed 30 minutes. Plus, I paid to sit in the 4th row, but the 3rd row was empty. So, the flight attendant let people who didn't pay extra for those seats, move all the up from the back of plane. Seriously? Why did I have to pay then? Should I then be entitled to a refund since other people sat there for free?"

Cons: "The plane took well over 40minutes to depart. I asked a flight attendant if she could solve an issue that I had with the seat I was in, she said sure and never did a thing. I sat next to a rude and inappropriate couple that was making out and kept bothering. I felt uncomfortable thought the entire flight. I will never fly with spirit again. I've had other issues as well with spirit the last time I flew but decided to give them a second chance. Never again."
Pros: "Prompt departure or arrival"
Cons: "Paying for extra luggage weight over 40 pounds. All other airlines set it at 50 pounds so when told I had to pay a ridiculous $25 because bag was at 47 pounds (underweight for other airlines). It spoiled my experience with Spirit. You advertise cheap prices but are sneaky with extra costs. Ridiculous. I do not ever plan to fly Spirit ever again. Disgusted. Let people know in large print that the luggage weight is 40-yet that's ridiculous not to go with 59. Women at checkin were unfriendly & unprofessional. Such a horrid experience."

Cons: "I cancelled the reservation after 10min, but I have been charged for a complete airfare. The company refuses to refund me for the full fare. The company offered me an alternative of flying with them and get a refund of 70 something $ within 60 days. That can not be done! BTW, in all other airline companies you can get a full refund if the deal was cancelled within 24H from when the reservation was done. I am very frustrated."

Cons: "The gate agents in Chicagp were rude and gave us incorrect information. They were chatting with their friends instead of answering our question. Then she told us we could use a different security line. When we went over there, we were told if we were flying spirit we had to use the long one on the other side of the airport! Our flight was then delayed twice, when we asked for an update, the gate agent was again rude, though she did eventually tell there was something wrong with the floor of the plane. Once we were on the plane, we were stuck on it for another 45 minutes before we took off. Baggage claim in Chicago was also a mess. There was only one carasaul and it took about an hour to get our bags. Our ride had to circle for an hour. We will not be flying spirit again."
Pros: "The bottom seat cushion was firm, suitable for long flights without butt pains."
Cons: "I usually like to fly an airline that doesn't make every attempt to be as inexpensive as possible; however this flight from Chicago to Phoenix for $177 was the earliest available so I made my decision based on that. What I didn't like is what you can probably guess; I was dinged $55 for a carry on bag, check in was through kiosk only with agents available is something went wrong (the card reader on mine was bad), there was no complimentary anything on the flight - that includes water, and there were advertisements in the plane. Ugh,"
Pros: "The flight attendants were quite amiable and realize it's a cheap airline, which made it slightly more enjoyable"
Cons: "Extremely tiny seats that don't recline (and I'm a small person). The plane was delayed because they couldn't find a gate to dock in, even though the plane was just sitting there. All food and drinks are for purchase only."
