VA bag weights are less than Delta and the seat was incredibly cramped. We both had to sit with our legs bowed to the side as the seat ahead was so close. For nine hours we were cramped and could not sleep due to only be able to squeeze into one position. To get into the seat I put on leg in and then sat on the armrest and then brought my other leg up and then lowered my but into the seat. I am not even 6 feet tall and had this issue. So due to the difficult online check-in and seat selection and to the cramped seats we will never fly Virgin Atlantic again."

The captain said 20 minutes til we can get a gate, but he'll try to get it sooner. He apparently didn't succeed, because it was 45 minutes (!!) before we got to the gate! After everybody finally boarded the plane an announcement was made that somehow the luggage crew had damaged the cargo hold, and that everybody would have to deplane. It would take 45 minutes for maintenance crew to arrive to assess the situation. People got up, got their luggage out of the overhead bins, and started moving to the front of the plane. The pilot then came back on the intercom and told everyone they would have to return to their seats. Roughly an hour later we finally took off. It would have been the decent thing to do to AT LEAST offer the passengers something (i.e. comp drinks or snacks), but the cheapskates at United DIDN'T EVEN APOLOGIZE. Multiple people missed their connections. Fast forward to IAH--> SAT. Another late flight. This time, everybody boarded the plane only to be informed that due to a problem with the plane's computer everybody would have to sit on the plane while they "rebooted" its computers. This was done TWICE. UNITED AIRLINES, GET IT TOGETHER. There is a very good reason you are consistently ranked one of the WORST US-flagged carriers, which makes you one of the MOST HATED AIRLINES ON THE PLANET. I really and truly pray that the US airlines and their lobbyists lose their battle to prevent foreign flagged carriers from operating within the US, because you all deserve to go bankrupt."

Their goal is to shove you in the plane and shove you out. Are they safe airline? Yes, they will get you to where you need to be...but not before they make your life hell. I don't normally do reviews on anything, but United still has me frustrated even a week later. I almost forgot, they did give $20 to eat. Do you know how expensive airport food is?"

Pros: "Again this flight was under booked so there was plenty of room for people to sit where they wanted and be comfortable."
Cons: "My layover in DC was nearly non existent due to the flight from Detroit to DC was a bit delayed, but only by 30 mins at the very most. But what I did not like is that my electronic boarding pass I was using on my phone had become expired for some reason, saying my flight had already left the gate as SOON as I landed in DC, but the flight listings said my flight was on time. I then had to visit a customer service desk for them to check what was going on, to check my flight and print me my boarding pass, but they said "I need to hurry"... I JUST LANDED! I then had to hastily make my way to the other side of the terminal just to make the flight that I should have had just over an hour layover for. Was not happy!"

Cons: "Hummus and crackers snack for $4 was not good. UA move to pay for food only is disappointing; information about the change not detailed in ticket information, so it came as a surprise. Switch to pay per view TV is pretty outrageous, especially when priced at cost of HDTV ($6). Unless you are using 42" L+W+D suitcases, the changes in luggage policy now force you to pay $25 per suitcase on an international flight. What, they expect you to travel abroad with only 2-3 changes of clothes? The price of the ticket was reasonable ($500), but you end up adding another $100 in luggage and food costs per person."

Cons: "No one staffing the desk until an hour and a half before one of their two flights for the day is scheduled to take off. The staff was very unprofessional and prioritized their friendly conversations behind the counter over taking care of customers when they finally showed up."
Cons: "A guy came drugged from Costa Rica and they had to put him an IV line and didn't let the passengers get out of the plane due to "medical emergency" hence, connection flight: lost."

Pros: "The staff was wonderful, and hilarious! Shout out to Scott from flight 338! He made everyone on the plane laugh. Also the staff at check in gave me an emergency exit seat so I had plenty of room!"
Cons: "I will never fly with Spirit again. Do not be fooled by the cheap prices of the tickets as they do not include baggage fees (an extra $240 for two people to check bags round trip.) Nothing is complimentary (not even soft drinks or a bag or pretzels,) drinks are super expensive, there is no hanging options for your suits/dress (so don't bother to dry clean before you come) and there is no entertainment options at all. Also, when picking your seats do not pick the seats with only two thinking that you will have a window seat next to your travel partner- instead the third seat by the window is where you will be sitting with the flight attendant. Overall, it was the worst flight experience of my life."

Pros: "More comfortable than I expected. The wider aisle and change in seat configuration made it feel more spaceous than other airlines. Crew was polite and efficient. Both flights on-time."
Cons: "Boarding is a bit of a free for all. Despite boarding by "zones", everyone seems to crowd the boarding area to get on the plane, even though we all have assigned seating (which is nice)."
Cons: "Only airline that charges $29 per passenger for tax in costa rica so that spirit can deceptively advertise at a lower price. Even a drink costs $3. I was curious if i had to swipe my credit card in order for the oxygen to work during emeregency. Both flights were delayed."
Cons: "Spirit canceled my flight the day before it was supposed to leave and gave me no other options as to how to get to my destination. It almost ruined my vacation."

Spirit airlines has a special place in hell for duping consumers for so long"

Cons: "Plane arrived late. (That's ok, it happens..) Once we were on the plane, we were delayed for quite awhile. Not sure for the reasoning other than they kept calling a bunch of people to see them, on the microphone. Also, the microphone speakers were hardly enthusiastic and didn't seem to know what they were reading when giving directions about safety. The bagge fee is crazy. Probably won't use spirit anymore unfortunately."

Cons: "There are lots of hidden fees we didn't know about and ended up spending a lot more money than intended. There was horrible communication between the airline and the airport and we were held on the plane for an additional 30 minutes after landing which caused us to miss our connecting flight. They said it was our fault for missing the connecting flight even though it was out of our control. We were stuck at the airport and the next available flight was not until the following day. We received no compensation for their mistakes."

Cons: "Due to weather conditions, our pilot had to continue past Fort Lauderdale and land our plane at Tampa. However, after landing we were forced to stay on the plane for 3 hours with very little updates on what was going to happen. Then their only solution was to bus us back to Fort Lauderdale which would take 6+ hours, causing us to miss our connecting flights. Therefore we were forced to rent a car (paid for out of pocket) and drive to another airport in order to make it to detroit"

Additionally, they do not include the international taxes and fees when traveling internationally so you incurr that fee when leaving the country. By far the worst airline!!!!!"

Cons: "We had to pay the airport taxes separately and unexpectedly to leave Costa Rica. I know that Spirit wants to save us costs by not charging us for things we don't need but that cost isn't optional so it's just deceitful to not include it. The baggage check at the airport is also only open at a certain time so we had to wait an hour and a half in the baggage check line to wait for it to open and THEN it turns out we were accidentally in the express members line (which was unlabeled) and the spirit employees made us get to the back of the regular line which was huge at that point (note we were the first people at the counter before that happened. AN HOUR AND A HALF IN LINE before it opened, another HALF HOUR to get through the line when we had to get in back. THERE IS NO FOOD BEFORE THE SECURITY CHECK. When I was reserving/buying my seats the website gliched so I had to refresh and all the prices doubled!!!!! Note this is in a five minute window."

Cons: "They lied about volcanic ash to delay their flight because their crew was not ready to fly (they didn't have enough down time) meanwhile EVERY OTHER FLIGHT FLEW OUT. They would not give us a new flight. They would not give us food vouchers. No car rentals. No housing. We were stranded in a foreign country for 12 extra hours with NOTHING. On top of that they were rude, unhelpful, and after the 12 hour delay, DELAYED THE FLIGHT AGAIN. They would not help with anything. They simply blamed the "ash" that apparently didn't affect any other airline but Spirit. Never ever using them again."
Cons: "My flight to Costa Rica was delayed over four hours due to a computer panel malfunction. Spirit "compensated" us passengers with a $50 certificate which was good only on another Spirit flight that you had to book within 60 days, and a meal voucher which only came after we had waited so long that we had eaten anyway. In my opinion, they wanted to appear as if they were trying to do something for us while actually giving us nothing of any practical value. My return flight to Fort Lauderdale was scheduled to depart at 12:30 PM. We arrived at the airport and waited over an hour in line to be told that the flight had been delayed until midnight due to a volcanic eruption. The only information they would give us was that we were supposed to come back at 9:30 PM to see if the flight would be departing. They did not offer us any amenities or any other options other than to sit in the airport for 12 hours and wait. At our own expense, my mother and I went and got a hotel room so we could at least be comfortable. We returned as instructed at 9:30 PM, and there were no Spirit airlines employees at the airport. They did not show up until 10:30 PM. We waited another hour in line, learned that our flight was delayed yet again, and basically sat in the terminal until we were finally allowed to board at 2 AM. Now I understand that a volcanic eruption is completely beyond anyone's control, however Spirit appeared to be the only airline operating out of this airport who could not figure out some sort of an alternative to accommodate its passengers. When we came back as instructed at 9:30 PM, we were the only passengers in the entire airport. Yes, the entire airport was empty except for us, and a few security personnel. And Spirit airlines did not even bother to show up until an hour later. Now, if this lengthy delay was really due to volcanic conditions, why did every other airline operating out of that airport figure out a solution? You would think that after such unpleasant experience, the airline would at least offer you some free snacks? Well, you would be wrong. They would not even offer us so much as a bag of peanuts or a cup of water for free. Let me also say that when my mother and I arrived at the hotel we had reserved so that we could wait more comfortably, we explained the situation to the girl at the check-in counter and she asked what airline we were flying. When we told her, she rolled her eyes and gave us a look that said "oh, them again!" According to her, this kind of thing happened twice a week on a regular basis I already had a very low opinion of spirit airlines because of their mercenary pricing tactics. They post a low fare to get you to buy a ticket with them, then they hit you with all kinds of ridiculous fees to make up the difference. For an airline ticket that was less than $400, we had to pay nearly $110 in extra baggage checking and seat selection fees. Then they switched our seats anyway."

Cons: "They charge for everything... a lot, to the point where it would have been much more cost effective to spend more with another airline originally. $100 for a small bag? $50 to bring it on board? $3.00 for water or soda? Extra to choose any seat... not a special one, just to chose a seat. $10 for them to print out a boarding pass. Tiny, tiny seats. No TV or movie for long flights, shall I go on? I'd rather not fly anywhere than to ever fly Spirit Airlines again."

Cons: "Escribo esto en español para poder expresar mejor mi indignación ante el servicio tan mediocre que recibimos. Después de que el vuelo se atrasara más de 4 horas, nunca logré entender porque fue que nos atrasamos. Nos decían que íbamos a hacer una cosa y hacían otra. Pasamos de ilusiones y luego desilusiones durante horas. Amo viajar y nunca en mi vida me había sentido tan estresado como viajando con Spirit Airlines. No solo fue el atraso del vuelo, sino que también salíamos a las 12:45pm de San José, hora a la que usualmente creo que todos almorzamos, y no se les ocurrió darnos de comer sino hasta las 6:00pm (hora de Costa Rica) y yo no se si según ellos por darnos una latita de Pringles y un vaso de Coca Cola ya se nos iba a olvidar el terrible atraso que tuvimos. Cuando llegué al aeropuerto de Miami noté que habían roto una rueda de mi maleta y se lo dije a una empleada de Spirit Arilines que no sabía que hacer así que recurrió a otra y lo que me dijeron fue que eso no era problema de ellas porque probablemente había sucedido en Costa Rica y luego se fueron. Ahora mismo estaba tratando de hacer el Check In para mi vuelo de regreso y nunca había sido tan complicado hacer un Check In, ni siquiera entiendo porque no puedo hacerlo. Entro a la pagina de preguntas y soporte al cliente de Spirit Airlines y para responder a la pregunta de COMO hacerlo, lo único que saben decir son los beneficios que tiene, beneficios a los cuales me ENCANTARÍA tener si tan solo en su pagina dijeran COMO se hace. He pagado casi $100 en equipaje solo porque nunca nadie me dijo que si lo pagaba como un mes antes iba a salir más barato, que por cierto su pagina de internet es de lo PEOR que he visto, porque después de pagar mi maleta para ir de regreso, ni siquiera me decía si se había cargado bien a mi tarjeta o me daban una factura, simplemente volví al sitio para administrar mi viaje y ahora solo estoy rezando para que cuando llegue al aeropuerto en serio el pago se haya realizado correctamente. En fin, voy a tener que seguir viajando muy seguido a los Estados Unidos desde Costa Rica y puedo jurarles que NUNCA voy a volver a viajar con Spirit Airlines."

They offered no food, no compensation, no protection, and instead of booking me another connecting flight they forced me to take a van they rented from fort lauderdale to my final destination, orlando."
