Cons: "There is always some sort of problem. When I was in San Pedro they said the flight was delayed, then it never came. They did accommodate me with a hotel for the night which was nice after almost losing my job. The last and final time I used this airline I was at JFK 2 hours and 45 minutes ahead of time. I was there at 11:45 for a 2:20 flight. They told me I had missed my flight because I wasn't there 3 hours early. No where on my ticket did it say anything about that. There was a lot of people complaining and then they told me since I "missed' my flight I had to by a new ticket on the spot, leaving me with no option and a heafty fee."

Whole reason, I booked a earlier flight so I can get to spend time in Lima but Avianca airlines changed the connecting flight from Bogata from 125pm flight to 330pm flight. I paid additional $250/ticket to get these tickets so I can get to Lima earlier than 7pmso that my wife and I can enjoy our honeymoon. I am very disappointed that airlines decided to switch flights without our approval. We did reach to Bogota at 1155am and we even tried to catch the 125pm flight from Bogota to Lima. but the staff was not helpful at all. All they kept on saying, “sorry nothing can be done, go file a complain”. Are you kidding me by saying that to your client, “go file a complaint”, instead of assisting. I guess Avianca airlines crew needs to learn about hospitality and customer service. NO AIRLINE MAKES Involuntary CHANGES with out notifying customers. Even on United Airlines, they don’t change flights with out informing customers."

Cons: "I was told hours before my flight that my flight was delayed due to weather in the NYC area and that the new flight time was two hours later. There were no weather issues at this time. This delay made me miss my connection and the only option was for me to have a 24 hour layover in Bogota, Colombia. As a woman traveling alone this was not acceptable to me but I had no other choice. I got a hotel room for the evening and tried to make the best of it. I was not offered any compensation for this inconvenience, nothing, not even an offer to pay for my hotel room. Similar things happened to three other people in my group that I was meeting in Peru all traveling from different locations. I lost an entire day in Peru because of this. On my return flight Avianca changed the times as well and I was forced to take an earlier fight home the day before I was scheduled to leave. I therefore lost a total of two days of my vacation because of Avianca and they did NOTHING to compensate me for it. STAY AWAY FROM THIS AIRLINE!!!"

They proceeded to tell us that our only option was to stay the night and take another flight the next day. Us and 10 other people had to get into an argument with the staff in order for something to be done. After begging, they finally said they would put us on an earlier flight the following morning and they put us in a hotel. The staff did not care about us or our missed flight/wasted money that we paid for the hotel at our destination that night. It took 30 minutes for a manager to give us the time of day. Horrible experience. It's really shocking that this is how the company treats its customers."

Several passengers were told their connecting flight would definitely be held for them. A few of us asked for a guarantee because we would rather pay to rebook another flight than get stuck, and the gate attendents at JFK said it was certain we would make our flights. Once we got to El Salvador we were told they never intended to hold our flights. Avianca agents there told the handful of us going to Cancun we we're rebooked on Copa Airline and would have to go to Panama first, then Cancun, and arrive around 10 pm instead of 11 am. Other passengers were stuck in El Salvador for even longer. For our trouble, they only offered a $70 voucher for Avianca which is essentially useless to most of us since it has extensive restrictions. On top of this, the plane seating was small and the food was terrible. When we got switched to Copa there was at least slightly more leg room and better food. Do not fly Avianca!!"

Now my only complaint regarding the small airplane from MTY to NYC is that the entertainment is provided via a mobile device, yet there's no ports for charging it, and there's no way a device will last that long, which made the whole excercise totally useless."

Boarding crew member insisted I was over the limit (when though at check-in, the staffer saw how many pieces I had and made no comment) and she insisted I had to check one item AND pay the baggage fee. But this was a problem only because it was a full flight, and I was being punished just because my seat was in a tow closer to the front and boarded later, therefore there was less room left in the overhead bins. Also seemed ridiculous to charge for the first checked bag, with most other reputable airlines, there is no fee for the first checked bag for international flights."

Crew members were not respectful of passengers sleeping as they talked in normal voices. I also found it very rude that I asked a crew member for a pillow and he said they didn't have any without even checking. Which I don't believe. Cons: "Unfortunately, I was not able to go on this trip because I recently found out I am pregnant and the risk due to the current Zika virus makes traveling out of the question. Aeromexico was NOT understanding at all. Their only offer was a 1 year voucher from the time I purchased my ticket. I purchased my ticket in October 2015 (before the Zika outbreak and before being pregnant) and I will still be pregnant in October 2016 so that voucher is completely useless to me. I basically lost $900. Even though I repeatedly tried to explain my situation to customer service and had a letter from my doctor it didn't matter they just repeated their voucher line over and over. Needless to say I will NEVER purchase airline tickets from Aeromexico again and that is a real shame for them because I have a timeshare in Mexico which I plan on enjoying with my growing family for years to come."

The connection,time is short but there is not any express line nor any American Airline employees to help, especially when previous AA flight was late by 1hr, cutting the connection time extremely short. Worst experience ever. My carry on was checked in and I had to carry all my electronics (laptop, etc) as if I was lost. No food. No proper AC. It was clearly stated that I have a carry on that I could bring with me and I wasn't allowed a carry on upon boarding. I flew many airlines (International and domestic airlines) and this by far is the worst experience I've had.
I made a check in at the gate due to taking a connection flight bougth separatedly. The lady in the front desk was very rude, she asked me to fill in my info in the Verifly app, otherwise she couldnt check me in. I was in a rush dowloading the app, once I downloaded this one didnt work...it didnt let me select any option or to write any info. I asked her if she can help me and she told me she couldnt, it is Verifly or I would loose my flight At the end another lady from the airline told her this was nos necessary, and show her how to do it. But all the time they were very unkind, as if they were giving me the flight with no cost........

Check-in was a nightmare. At least half the self-serve kiosks were out of printer paper so were out of service. It was chaos. No one was directing traffic, so you had to hope you were in the right line. We finally got to a kiosk and checked in, and printed one bag tag for checked baggage. We were in line to drop off the checked bag, and the lady working that station just walked away and didn’t come back. After we waited a bit, another person in line went to ask at the nearby counter if the bag check person was coming back, and she wasn’t, so we had to find a new line and wait all over again. Once we got our bag dropped off and our tickets, the rest was easy. The security line went quickly, and the terminal was clean and nice. Our flight was great and the flight crew was excellent. I think if someone had kept up with the kiosk printers, a lot of the check-in headaches and stress would have been solved.
Compared to other US airlines, American is the worst. The planes are tight. Seats are uncomfortable and there was no option to buy food on a 6 hour flight. Also the free wifi didn’t work.

Pros: "Lisa I. was one of the best flight attendants I have ever observed. She enjoys being on the airplane with people who need help, comfort, to complain about anything. She was all over the airplane and refused a tip when I tried to insist she accept it. She said, “I have been doing this for a long time, I am tipped by seeing passengers having a pleasant flight.” I had goosebumps and the two women to my left and right were also impressed by her professionalism. I pray that Lisa is working on my flight home!"
Cons: "Absolutely nothing, even with 30 to 45 MPH winds, the plane was gentle. The passenger next to me was scared. Lisa said to let her know if she needed anything, the woman was fine the whole flight. Lisa came by with extra snacks and she smiled and said she was doing well!"
Cons: "On the first leg of my journey, there was a card explaining how to get inflight entertainment using the aainflight.com which worked great. However the Phoenix to Eugene leg used Boingospot but there was no card in the seat pocket explaining what needed to be put in your browser to access the entertainment portal. There were only two flight attendants on the flight and, aside from the drink service, no one ever came to the back of the plane so I could ask the question. I could have used the call button but I think that should be saved for emergencies. I think the information on how to access the inflight entertainment should be in every seat pocket"
Cons: "The flight was delayed due to a missing officer. Because of this, I missed my flight from Chicago to Narita Japan. I had to cancel the hotel in Japan and pay $120 cancellation fee. The customer service changed my flight to go to Dallas/Fort Worth TX then fly to Narita Japan next day. They gave me vouchers for hotel stay and meal ($12) which are absolutely minimal compensation after all this headaches. They were unable to upgrade my seat since they’re full. Now the flight to Narita is 2 hour delay and they have changed the gate at least twice. I’m worried if I can get on the next connecting flight to Sapporo due to this delayed schedule. I feel like this whole trip is ruined because the delayed flight from Philadelphia to Chicago. This has been my worst and the most ridiculous flight experience ever. I don’t think I ever want to fly with American Airlines in the future."

There was a DC power outlet at my seat (not all of the seats in the main cabin even have that) but guess what--it required a cigarette-lighter-style adapter to plug in. I certainly don't travel around with one of those! And most of the other seats in the main cabin had no access to power at all. My battery wouldn't possibly last through a 7-hour-plus flight without supplementary power. Oh well, fortunately there are still books and magazines. Just like old times. Be more like United or any other international airline, American!"

Cons: "Gate at Philadelphia was tiny with not enough space for everyone on the plane, it was a 6 hour flight and no snacks beyond pretzels were available-not even for purchase. I'd just come off an 8 hour international flight where I was provided lunch, ice cream, a pot pie snack and frequent beverage service. Somehow as soon as you are flying domestic on a slightly shorter flight American Airlines thinks its okay to treat customers like garbage-nothing but some sad pretzels and 2 rounds of drink service was provided for a 6 hour flight. The seats were super uncomfortable with no head rest, no personal entertainment devices were provided, and there was no general entertainment for the whole plane-seriously I've never been so bored. I would have fallen asleep from boredom but the seat was too uncomfortable so I couldn't even do that. The plane landed in Seattle but sat without unloading passengers for 20 minutes because the gate crew wasn't ready. We didn't get our checked baggage for over an hour after landing. When asked, customer service reps said that the S gate was far from baggage claim-seriously I'm not sure how that is a reasonable excuse. Other airlines arrive into S gates and have timely baggage claim service. American Airlines has no standard for timely baggage claim service like other airlines (Alaska) so there were no repercussions for such late baggage service. We left the airport with our luggage over 90 minutes after the plane landed. The entire experience is just another example of American Airlines of why the terrorists won't even fly American Airlines. I was seriously disappointed to find out that the British Airways flights we booked were operated by American instead of BA crews. I seriously will never select this option (or fly American) again if I can help it."

Cons: "There were no announcements at the gate. So it was very disorganized and people were frustrated I had purchased some fried breakfast rice at the gate and it came in a bag. The woman at the gat told me I had too many bags. It’s not a bag lady. It’s fried rice. She was not friendly. At least smile when you tell me to combine my takeout bag and my very small cross-body bag that is barely big enough to hold my Iphone. Most of the announcements in flight were muffled and hard to hear. The safety speech was really quite terrible. I think someone was torturing her to do it. It was really quite painful to listen to....."

Families with babies, couples, even ours (though the kids are old enough for me not to be truly worried as some were). Somehow reservations seems to have messed up an entire flight. We gave up trying to fix it for fear they would make it worse. Then the woman at the gate tried to get folks to volunteer to give up their seats on an overbooked flight. But she was screaming at us. Unbelievably unpleasant to be yelled at over and over again and told we could lose our seats. The poor weather likely caused flights to be rerouted into PHL so our flight out to SFO ended up 1/3 empty. FABULOUS. But the gate experience was horrible and the legroom, had it been a full flight, was miserable. I'm in search of an airline with a humane approach."

We were unable to board our flight at the Philadelphia airport because when we arrived (almost 2 hours before our flight) the ticket counter was already closed for the evening. No one from American Airlines could help us. We were left stranded at the ticket counter until it reopened at 3:15 am. We are very disappointed and disgusted with the poor service we received from American Airlines. After hearing multiple horror stories from others, it is safe to say we will never fly that airline again."

Cons: "The airline is so outdated and behind the times of their competitors, their in that they don't have in flight entertainment unless you download their app and give them your email address. On top of that when I originally booked my flights, I had made sure to have 1.5 hr for a layover between my connecting flights. Well, they decided to move up my connector such that I had 25 minutes to run across 2 terminals. They only give you pretzels on the plane, and a single soda drink. They offer you "food bundles" but why do I want to pay $8 for a sandwich that costs $1 to make."

Cons: "Itinerary I received was for British Airways, with whom I have always had excellent experiences. However, I discovered at check-in I would actually be traveling on American Airlines with a different flight no. I had already provided my BA flight numbers to family. No explanation was give to me prior to flight that this would be the case. Food was terrible- even for Coach class - I don't always expect a gourmet meal, but BA was consistently good in the past, so I had positive expectations. My personal entertainment system did not work properly so I could not use it."
Pros: "When our flight was delayed in Denver the agent at the check in gate worked very hard to get our flight plans changed with as little impact as possible."
Cons: "We understand that delays happen but due to a delay on American Airlines we have lost our luggage and it doesn't seem likely it will be returned. We had five pieces of luggage lost during our flight from the U.S. to Spain. When we arrived in Madrid we were told that all five pieces had been located. When we went to pick them up the next day there were only four pieces at the airport. We were told the fifth suitcase would be delivered when it was located. It's ten days later and there's no sign of the luggage. It has taken multiple phone calls to get the information about the luggage correct. They assure me that they have everything correctly documented and then when I call back they haven't changed a thing. It has been a very frustrating process overall."
Cons: "American Airlines lied to us that this flight was canceled. They made me go to the ticket counter to book another flight. While standing in line, my husband found out it was not canceled, but they were boarding the plane. The porter that pushed my mother in the wheelchair was able to get our bags checked. No American Airlines employee would help us. They just said to go back to the end of the line. The porter called the gate to have the plane wait for us. American Airlines DISCRIMINATES especially against the elderly!"

Cons: "Please inform travelers that their passport must not expire within 3-6 months of their trip to France. I was unaware of this and was not allowed on our flight in Philadelphia because my passport would expire in two months. We lost an entire day in France because I had to go to the customs office the next morning and get an emergency passport. I travel frequently, but somehow was not aware of this rule. If I had known I would have fixed the issue months ago. Multiple people viewed my ticket and passport before arriving in Philadelphia and no one caught this error until right as I was boarding the flight to Paris."
Cons: "Left s half hour late because they had to shift cargo, then we taxied on the runway for what seemed like a half hour. My wife and I purchased our tickets in July but could never pick our seats and ended up 9 rows apart."
Cons: "The connecting flight from philadelphia to amsterdam was cancelled by American airlines due to a faulty plane. The system auto-rebooked many passengers on the flight on a 2 connections flight to arrive in Rotterdam for the following day. This was obviously not a suitable alternative. However after hours of waiting at the gate to get a better flight, an american airlines representative was able to rebook a flight to amsterdam via london that was still not until the following evening. I had to stay in philadelphia overnight and had to find a room on my own. The flight the next day went better however I still lost a day and a half of my trip. Unfortunalely for me, the issues did not end there. There was an issue in communication with british airways; american airlines never gave them the new flight details so british airways marked me as a no show for the Rotterdam flight and cancelled my return flight. By luck i called the day before my flight back to the US since i felt something was wrong. British airways representative was able to rebook me on a similar flight for the same day. Will most likely not use this airline again for international flights"

I wish American Airlines would charge $20 more per ticket and provide some reasonable food. Everything just screamed LOW QUALITY. Lucky I had brought a sandwich and some snacks with me on board. The food was so bad that I didn't even touch it. They should just eliminate the food completely and tell people to bring their own on board."

Cons: "This was almost a six hour flight there were no televisions available the flight was oversold and there were people on standby there was very little Lego room we were only offered snacks and drinks the crew was stressed we left late because we were instructed to check our carry-ons but that was not enforced until people were already on the plane getting on the plane and getting off the plane took a very long time there was very little leg room it was difficult to move around the plane because it was such a small plane the crew was very stressed out. I am very upset about this flight and will not fly with American ever again."

Cons: "We booked a round-trip flight on AA from Philadelphia to Dublin. Due to changes in our travel plans we revised our flight dates. The phone customer service rep who helped me make the changes, assured me that the AA policy was to group families together after she informed me that I could not choose our seat assignments at that time. Arriving at the Philadelphia airport, we used the self service kiosk to check-in. The issued boarding passes put my wife and me in different rows on one side of the plane, and our nine year old son on the other. I asked a roving AA customer service rep if it would be possible to change our seat assignments and explained what we were told when rebooking. She waved vaguely in the direction of the baggage counter, and told us we could change our seats when checking our baggage. We brought out baggage to the counter and informed the customer service rep working there what we were told by the kiosk and phone representatives. She immediately yelled at us and told us to calm down, even though we were merely asking and explaining. Each time we attempted to explain our situation or ask where we could seek assistance, she bristled. Finally, she told us we should go to the main check-in counter because she could not change seat assignments. The check-in counter rep was very brusque. She said she could not change anything because we had boarding passes and should accept the locations because it was an international flight; however we could ask at the gate if changes could be made. At the gate, service was provided for three flights - Dublin, London, and Manchester(?). We stood briefly in line and were motioned up to a desk for the London flight. I informed the customer service rep that we were travelling to Dublin, and what we were told by the previous AA representatives. Without checking to see if was possible to seat the three of us together, he told us that he could only put my wife and son together. Somewhat relieved, we asked him to revise their seat locations. He made the changes and handed us our new boarding passes. As we walked away from the counter, I noticed that the new boarding passes were for the London flight and did not have my wife's or son's names. We returned to the counter and told him that there had been mistakes made. He immediately snatched the passes from us and berated us for not telling him that we were not going to London. I told him that we had told him of our destination as soon as we approached the counter. He retrieved our original passes from the trash and told us to wait for the Dublin flight reps to arrive. Immediately, I called the AA toll-free number and informed the phone agent of all that had happened. She was able to locate two seats together for my wife and son, and told me to inform the gate reps of the information. Because of character limitations I cannot tell of the counter rep who was an angel and managed to seat the three of us together. Thank you!!!"

Cons: "The space and seats were uncomfortable. The seat my husband was sitting in (30A window seat), the touch screen seemed to have some technical issues, for it did not recognize when you touch the screen. It was a bit frustrating trying to select entertainment. Also, when checking in from our original departure location, MCO, we were not provided our boarding pass or luggage tags for our final destination, Barcelona, only to our connecting flight, Philadelphia. The connecting flight was delayed in MCO for an 1 hour and a half, after we have boarded the plane, therefore almost cost us to be late for our final flight to Barcelona. Since we were not given our boarding passes for PHL to BCL it caused confusion when trying to board our plane in PHL to Barcelona, and also caused for our baggage to not arrive with the flight. After landing, we spent an additional 2 hours at the Airport going through customs, and waiting on line for the lost and found desk for baggage in Barcelona. The lost and found desk had three agents available to assist, however we can only talk to one which was designated specifically for American Airlines. This caused a very long wait time of 1 hour. We were advised the bags stayed in Phildelaphia since they did not have the additional luggage tags, and will not arrive till the next day. Overall the experience within the Airport service desks and baggage check in' s was not a pleasant experience. I believe many of these issues could have been avoided if the American Airlines agents were more knowledgeable and attentive."
Cons: "I nearly missed my flight because I did not have a seat for a flight that I bought a ticket for at full price. Which, would lead one to believe that I would have a seat on said flight. However, coming to the gate an hour before boarding the personnel working gate the said he was having computer difficulties and could not get me a seat and it would be 10 min. I continued to return till boarding to find out I had no seat and I was on standby. Upon going to customer service they replied the airline oversold tickets and every airline does this as if to make this practice ok. Well being in sales myself and if I were to sell x amount of product to one customer ( or several) I better make sure I have it all there to deliver. People rely on you schedule wise. It nearly shot a meeting I had to make in the foot. Very disappointed with the airline and the way things were handled."

Cons: "One of the worst flights ever. The plane was jammed. My seat was in row 20, directly across from the lavatory. The light was one every time they opened or closed the door. I had people standing right next to me with their rear ends in my face. The plane would be fine for a short trip with that many people and such small uncomfortable seats (and I am a little person 5'1"). But to put that many people on a "cattle car" for a 6 hour flight... no bueno. Also, I could not check in online to get seats and I wasn't able to upgrade. My husband was stuck 13 rows behind me. Worst flight ever."

Cons: "There was no one at the gate to deplane us in Toronto. There for I missed my westjet connection home by 5 minutes. I was looking at the plane by the jet way unable to get on. AA staff would not pay for a hotel for being so late to Toronto because the wether was not thier fault, which I agree. But the lack of staffing was and a hotel should have been provided to me due to this. I will never fly America Airlines again due to my incoming flight to Toronto and the out bound to Philadelphia (cancelled on the way to Philly for no apparent reason)."
Cons: "When the flight was on time, we learned it was overbooked. Agents stated that if people would not willingly accept their offer to fly at a later time random people would be denied boarding. This was a stressful element as there was no other flight that could make me arrive on time. Plus, threatening to deny boarding to paying customers for airline related overbooking does not seem like a fair or good business practice. Then there were mechanical issue with the plane. After waiting over an hour for repairs they realized they needed a new air craft. This further delayed the flight. Not only was the flight extremely delayed at this pint but throughout the waiting time we were given very little information and were constantly told they couldn't give us an approximate time of departure. This was extremely rude and makes the experience of dealing with a delay even worse. I would suggest giving us more information about what is happening. Saying we don't know when the flight will leave is just unacceptable. To make matters even worse after we were finally boarded we had to wait an additional 40 minutes sitting inside the plane while they boarded refreshments! I know there are delays in flights but this same thing happened to my flight on my way to Paris and it caused me to miss my international connection and had to be re-routed."
Cons: "It was a full flight, anyone in loading zones 7-9 were required to check their carry-on luggage. We were in loading zone 6, so not required and preferred not to due to our full day of air travel that would continue into a 3 hour car trip. My husband reached the gate, his ticket scanned, and let onto the plane. I walk up next, my ticket is scanned and then the personnel at the gate said in what I can only describe as the most disrespectful, inconsiderate, ill-tempered tone that he would need take my bag. He grabbed it out of my possession, shoved it into the luggage sizing rack and even though it did fit inside the lines, he said it was "too close" and would need to be checked. Not wanting to cause a scene and quite frankly speechless by this man's attitude, I did not object.. It was not until I was seated on the plane that I noticed more than a dozen items of luggage larger than mine and that the vast majority of people that had 3, 4, 5 carry on items when the maximum is 2: one personal item and one carry on luggage item. It was both the lack of respect and the lack of consistency that lead me to have an extremely "poor" boarding experience. Serious retraining needs to be completed and boarding attendants should not be able to harass airline passengers."

Cons: "There wasn't entertainment options without using your own devise. Much nicer having it built in but I realize that is the way of the future. The seat itself was very stiff. There was no comfort in the chair itself. It looked comfy but felt like a hard chair, unfortunate. No charging stations at Philly and the outlets didn't work to charge phones."

On the flight from Mex City to LAX the bathroom facilities were so limited that some Economy class passengers had to try to use the business class or first class facilities' An FA then came on the intercom and said Economy class must only use their own facilities and this is according to an FAA regulation. THat is a straight out lie. If you eliminate bathrooms from Economy class to squeeze in more seats this problem will persist. American Airlines should be ashamed of itself."

I understand mechanical problems, but 3 hours later, and on another plane, the captain starts making stuff up, saying that the only reason we hadn't moved in the last hour was because people were using the bathroom, then something about having to deplane because the plane couldn't back up with us on it because of some sensor? And then, surprise ! All of the sudden they noticed there was an issue with his and some of the crews' hours and we had to wait till they could locate more crew. But they gave us each a 1/3 glass of water and later a $12 food voucher which didn't even cover a meal and beverage. Whoop-de-do. 7 hours later we finally boarded for the third and last time. The crew on the other hand stayed professional and friendly."

Boarded and saw there was still plenty of open overhead bin space. Had to wait 30 extra minutes at our destination to claim his unnecessarily checked bag. This is on top of poor customer service from the gate agents and a long delay on our outbound flight. Will not choose to fly American Airlines in the future"

She quickly pulled me aside.. helped me with checking in and did her best to fine me another seat thatvwas better than the one I had already chosen.Also, she gave me a hug and her condolences. Flying with an airline that has heart helped me so much during one of the most difficult times of my life. I will absolutely fly with them again."
Cons: "No complaints ... but I paid for a movie to take my mind off of my father's passing during the flight and there was a short in my monitor for our whole row. It kept cutting in and out and "searching for signal", I only was able to see 1/4 of the movie I paid for with all the interruptions in signal."

Cons: "The plane was delayed 5 times causing us to miss our connection. We had to stay overnight in the airport in Chicago. We were told that there would be blankets waiting for us that we could use however there weren't and we had to practically beg for them."

Cons: "Everything else. I flew from PHL to IAH and was very unhappy with the experience. The gate agents were unfriendly. The bag check agents downstairs were unfriendly. I had two separate phone calls with United a week prior to the flight to understand and confirm the bag policy. This was AFTER booking my flight so they knew upfront I bought a basic economy ticket. After my first call, I understood a personal item would be free and I would be able to pay for my carry on bag, but only within 24 hours prior to the flight. I made a second call to be absolutely sure the previous agent gave me the correct information and pricing. So I paid the $25 for my carry on, checked in online, and waited at the gate while boarding at the very end because I was basic economy. They did not let me board with my bag. They requested another $50 to check my carry on with them or I would be rebooked. I struggled to afford the flight, let alone the carry on fee I had paid in advance. I literally did not have the money, and even if I had the cash, they only accept plastic. What blew me away was they weren't asking me to check my carry on because of the size. But because of my basic economy ticket, aka, the N fare. Despite checking with two employees by phone after buying my ticket and paying for a carry on in advance, there is a rule in place that states "if you have purchased Basic Economy, you will only be allowed one personal item, unless you are a Premier member or a primary card member using a qualifying MileagePlus credit card." Therefore, there is no alternative. You are a second class citizen; a no good deplorable, when you buy this ticket and there is nothing you can do to upgrade it. Only the "premier" passengers have the right to bring a carry on aboard even if you think you're paying for the privelage. What I was expected to somehow understand after asking two United employees prior if I could purchase the right to bring a carry on bag aboard, was to CHECK my CARRY ON downstairs or learn the hard way. Wow. What a ruthless way to learn this lesson. I waited 7 more hours to board the next available flight. What a nightmare. I thought I had did the appropriate research necessary and planned in advance to avoid these situations. Checking in online and contacting customer service prior is no longer the convenience it used to be. Even if you've done your research, bring additional funds with you. Even if you check in online and have a digital boarding pass, always check in with a real human prior to entering the TSA security line. A side note, United is trying to save money while "speeding up" the process by forcing you to use a computer to hand over your checked luggage. Speaking with a human now is a monumental struggle."

Cons: "Seat was changed to last row/middle seat (not what initially booked or confirmed with online check-in). Before takeoff, attendant moved all passengers in back row to alternate seats. Which meant that I was no longer traveling with my colleague. Unfortunately, that made our intended meeting time impossible."

Pros: "I fly weekly, but try never to book United because there are always issues with my support animal. Without fail, regardless of the city, the agents at check-in do not know what to do. Each time I'm met with annoyance at having to check me in, and I usually end up calling either the disabilities desk and handing the agent my phone, or asking for the CRO. I have to leave an extra 45 minutes to accommodate flying United every time -- ridiculous. This time I also got a load of unprofessional gate agents cooing and awwing at my my support animal, and trying to pet him. When this happens I always simply state, "please don't" and this was key with rudeness as well. United please provide us with more professional and adequately trained staff at the airports. Once we're on the planes it's fine. But you seem to have VERY low hiring standards for airport staff"
Pros: "My flight stopped for over 2 hours for refueling which caused me to miss my coneccting flight, plus 2 other reschedual flights. Then no one would accomodate me on account of this. Never flying united again"

Cons: "Flight was delayed for 4 hours at night due to repairs. Luckily, they placed me in a hotel. However, it was probably the worst hotel that I have every stayed (uncomfortable bed, bad pillows, smokey smell, etc.). The next morning while boarding, the gate attendant was extremely rude and unprofessional. I will spend a little extra to not fly with United if possible."

Cons: "Crew was rude, not just to me, but to other patrons. Flight was packed going and the man scanning boarding passes spoke to those of us asking simple questions as if we were stupid and defiant. Was he a prison guard in his previous job? On the way to Newark, I had an aisle seat. One of the stewardesses blazed by me with a cart ramming it into my shoulder without so much as a, "sorry." I'm not a big woman but maybe as I dozed off I leaned over a bit...There is no way she didn't feel her cart hit me. Rudeness, it seems is a part of the culture at United because the flight attendants coming back squeezed past the long line for the bathroom without saying, "excuse me." They did however, say, "I need to get by," and one of them brushed by the gentlemen sitting next to me and bumped his laptop and coffee. Overall it seems that the crew working these particular United flights have forgotten that we pay hard earned money to fly. Some of us are going on vacation, to see loved ones, and some are flying to deal with unpleasant circumstances. The staff may fly several times a day, but most passengers do not. There's a lot of prep and anxiety, that goes into taking a flight and a surly flight crew multiplies that anxiety. No one wants to fly with a crew that hates their job."

Cons: "On the return home, I was seated in the last row right next to the lavatory. I was bumped into at least 25 times by other passengers and flight attendants. I would suggest removing the aisle seat on both sides."
Cons: "Flight was delayed, missed connection, chose to go to Minneapolis and was booked on a flight that I didn't have time to get to the terminal, so was rebooked a 3rd time, missed my shuttle, have no idea where my luggage is"
Cons: "My connection to YYZ was cancelled and I was not even rebooked to the next flight. I needed to buy a ticket on Air Canada in order to get there. Every time I fly United I find myself asking "why in the hell am I flying United?""
Pros: "It was a direct flight"
Cons: "Even though I checked in early I was not assigned a seat. I had to wait to see if people didn't show up to claim a seat. For a red eye it is difficult to notify family if you don't get on the flight because most likely they will be getting up early to pick you up at the airport. Luckily I got on the flight but the stress of waiting was tough. I was treated just as if I was on standby yet I purchased my flight ahead of time."
Cons: "Showed up at gate to get my seat and attendants seemed flusterred and unprepared. It seemed that they were having trouble finding a seat for me and I could hear them discussing options with other airlines to get to my final destination"
Pros: "At the gate, I asked about chaining our seats since they were in the extreme back of the plane. The gate attendant gave us some great economy plus seats for free. I wish I would have remembered his name. But Thank You!!!"
Cons: "It's still a long flight from San Francisco to Mexico City but it's just on the cusp on not getting any freebies, i.e. food, premium drinks. This was kind of a let down but I got over it."

Let's start with booking and the lack of knowledge, inability to listen and respond in an appropriate manner, and the fact that after I asked to speak to a manager due to the previous issues with the agent, and after being transferred all I needed was some understanding and support due to a family emergency and instead I get a short rude push back and then hung up on by the manager after I expressed my struggle and desperation for help. The lack of empathy and just the overall experience was beyond horrible, and if it wasn't for the desperate situation I was in I would have never used your services."

Pros: "It was a light flight, so I could have my carry-on with me even though I was in group 5. The breakfast -- berry pecan French toast -- was surprisingly tasty and satisfying (if not very attractively presented)."
Cons: "Too bad I had to pay so much for the exit row seat. I'm tall and it's needed for standard comfort (as opposed to extra comfort). Oh well. Gotta squeeze those dollars out of the passengers every way they can."

Pros: "Got me safely to my destination. Other passengers were friendly and helpful. Sf and Vic airports nice. flight attendants passably pleasant. No food that I was aware of. Entertainment at least there was a wifi option since there were no screens."
Cons: "Check in agents all might as well have been robots, but with bad attitude. Even at the star alliance gold checkin desk the agent was clearly unhappy/furious (seem to be ongoing issues with the system/ machine frustrating him) and was consistently abrupt and cold though our interaction. He did help by lifting bags onto weigh and to press buttons to get the tickets issued, but I would have a much better experience of United if he has shown any sign of warmth or even smiled. I was struggling with a baby in a carrier, and several suitcase, and he didn't show any sign of humanity. The guy who labeled our bags was a bit nicer. The team overal though just barked instructions at the customers, never looked them in the eyes, and seemed to all hate their jobs. We got our boarding passes issues successfully, yes, but I felt on pins and needles like I had to be very careful not to offend anyone.... Which I don't think is what you want your passengers to feel at the start of a flight."
