They did accommodate me with a hotel for the night which was nice after almost losing my job. The last and final time I used this airline I was at JFK 2 hours and 45 minutes ahead of time. I was there at 11:45 for a 2:20 flight. They told me I had missed my flight because I wasn't there 3 hours early. No where on my ticket did it say anything about that. There was a lot of people complaining and then they told me since I "missed' my flight I had to by a new ticket on the spot, leaving me with no option and a heafty fee."

Whole reason, I booked a earlier flight so I can get to spend time in Lima but Avianca airlines changed the connecting flight from Bogata from 125pm flight to 330pm flight. I paid additional $250/ticket to get these tickets so I can get to Lima earlier than 7pmso that my wife and I can enjoy our honeymoon. I am very disappointed that airlines decided to switch flights without our approval. We did reach to Bogota at 1155am and we even tried to catch the 125pm flight from Bogota to Lima. but the staff was not helpful at all. All they kept on saying, “sorry nothing can be done, go file a complain”. Are you kidding me by saying that to your client, “go file a complaint”, instead of assisting. I guess Avianca airlines crew needs to learn about hospitality and customer service. NO AIRLINE MAKES Involuntary CHANGES with out notifying customers. Even on United Airlines, they don’t change flights with out informing customers."

Cons: "I was told hours before my flight that my flight was delayed due to weather in the NYC area and that the new flight time was two hours later. There were no weather issues at this time. This delay made me miss my connection and the only option was for me to have a 24 hour layover in Bogota, Colombia. As a woman traveling alone this was not acceptable to me but I had no other choice. I got a hotel room for the evening and tried to make the best of it. I was not offered any compensation for this inconvenience, nothing, not even an offer to pay for my hotel room. Similar things happened to three other people in my group that I was meeting in Peru all traveling from different locations. I lost an entire day in Peru because of this. On my return flight Avianca changed the times as well and I was forced to take an earlier fight home the day before I was scheduled to leave. I therefore lost a total of two days of my vacation because of Avianca and they did NOTHING to compensate me for it. STAY AWAY FROM THIS AIRLINE!!!"

Cons: "The customer service was terrible. Our connecting plane had not left yet and they did not let us on. They proceeded to tell us that our only option was to stay the night and take another flight the next day. Us and 10 other people had to get into an argument with the staff in order for something to be done. After begging, they finally said they would put us on an earlier flight the following morning and they put us in a hotel. The staff did not care about us or our missed flight/wasted money that we paid for the hotel at our destination that night. It took 30 minutes for a manager to give us the time of day. Horrible experience. It's really shocking that this is how the company treats its customers."

Cons: "The flight was delayed out of JFK for some unknown reason (definitely not weather or missing plane since it was the first flight of the morning). Several passengers were told their connecting flight would definitely be held for them. A few of us asked for a guarantee because we would rather pay to rebook another flight than get stuck, and the gate attendents at JFK said it was certain we would make our flights. Once we got to El Salvador we were told they never intended to hold our flights. Avianca agents there told the handful of us going to Cancun we we're rebooked on Copa Airline and would have to go to Panama first, then Cancun, and arrive around 10 pm instead of 11 am. Other passengers were stuck in El Salvador for even longer. For our trouble, they only offered a $70 voucher for Avianca which is essentially useless to most of us since it has extensive restrictions. On top of this, the plane seating was small and the food was terrible. When we got switched to Copa there was at least slightly more leg room and better food. Do not fly Avianca!!"

Cons: "The Soviet Union wants its airline back. This was perhaps the RUDEST airline experience I've ever experienced. I was at Frankfurt (FRA) airport waiting to board Air Moldova Flight 864 to Chisinau (KIV). Due to a delay caused by Frankfurt security (and no fault of my own), I was delayed in reaching the gate. Since it was past my boarding time, I grabbed my bags from the conveyor belt once past security without having time to repack. I arrived at the gate and the extremely rude Air Moldova gate agent on duty yelled at me and demanded that I give her my boarding pass. When I told her I needed to pack, she yelled that there was “no time for that”. When I searched for my pass, she again yelled and said “NOW!”. When I told her that it was not my fault that I arrived late since there was a delay at security, she said “Not my problem!”. After she checked my boarding pass, I tried to repack and she again yelled “There is no time. Go to the bus NOW!” I once again told her that it was not my fault I got delayed and she again yelled “NOT MY PROBLEM”. In addition to rude employees, the airline is clearly in violation of safety regulations. The safety card in the back seat pocket was written in ARMENIAN – and Armenian only, thanks to the plane having been leased and Air Moldova not appropriately changing the safety cards. How did they expect people who read Romanian or Russian (the local languages) or English to understand it! On top of that, the plane was easily 20 years old or more and dirty. If they can't even keep a plane clean or have the appropriate safety cards, what else are they not maintaining. Do not fly this terrible airline!"

You need a written contact with your neighbor about the foot placement - space is so narrow, you need to take turns if you would like to come off the plane without back injuries 4. New custom: serve coffee AFTER breakfast 5. Nobody walked around with water or juice between the meals - you had to wake your neighbor since climbing over someone is no longer possible [either] 6. If you have 2 beverages on your tray and your neighbor needs to get out, you need a third person to assist (impossible to get out of your seat with 2 beverages in your hands (we tried it!) - just too narrow (even for a European Teenager) 7. It was not clearly visible who boards where. An Economy couple standing patiently in line at the Wong boarding line was sent back to the end of the long economy line - although NOBODY was in the business line"

I would rather sit another regular seat instead of the 1st-row aisle seat. Usually, I sleep on the plane during whole flight, but this time I could not sleep at all. 2. There was a curtain which separates the business class and economic class. As the 1st point, my seat was the 1st-row aisle seat, so the curtain hit me every time the crew went through the curtain, which is extremely annoying. 3. The Entertainment screen is so difficult to use, either hard to touch or so slow."

Crew could not be bothered with bringing over water and didn't exactly respond to call button."

Cons: "My son Adam is in Mekele Ethiopia having flown most of his journey with Lufthansa. For two days now, his luggage with his nebulizer and asthma medications has gone missing and not ONE person at Lufthansa is willing to help on their end. Since his last leg was with Ethiopian Airlines, Lufthansa is unwilling to help in any fashion or form in helping to track the luggage that flew with them over two flights. They DENY they have any responsibility to help because it's not their "policy." They wouldn't even look into their computers to see where the luggage was last seen. I am so angry that "policy" is more important to Lufthansa than actual human caring about their passengers."

Two meals were served in the First class during 9hr long flight! Great for domestic!!! Mai Tai drink was excellent!

Did not see any way to order a vegan meal during the ticket purchase or checkin process. There were no vegan meal options offered on the plane making the trip a long hungry one. Other than that, the crew was very good and the flight was very smooth and on time.

It left on time and arrived a few minutes early. The whole process of checking in, seating (got my upgrade thankfully!), and the meals (superb multi-grain healthy salad) were great. It arrived on time (actually a few minutes early). American continue to keep up its promise of customer service. I love being part of the American traveller family.

I didn’t like that they keep changing stuff of the trip, like the flight it self from Guayaquil to Nyc i did a stupid scale to chicago, and one dat before my return trip they change the bag polite

We get late flying from JFJ and we missed the conection in London.

With all the service cutbacks, flying is not a joyous experience anymore.

I asked if they could talk to the parents and they said no, the beverage service was not good as I couldn't get more water and the seats were awful! Why wasnt the wifi working? even if it worked I'd have to purchase it even tho it was an international flight. I will not fly American Airlines again!"

Pros: "Despite getting no updates, our flight itinerary was changed from a 3.30pm flight to a 9.20pm flight. Unfortunately this was after landing from Milan at 1.30 with two small children so we had already had a very long day. We absolutely never would have booked this flight itinerary had we known of the change."
Cons: "I am beyond stunned that our flight itinerary was changed from 3.30pm to 9.20pm with no notification. This is absolutely unreasonable and inexcusable made even worse that we had already had a very long journey from Milan to JFK with two small children. Evidently the issue was that we booked via a 3rd party off the kayak site and not directly with British airways. When American airways changed the flight from 3.30 to 3.25, the 3rd party company failed to file for our updated itinerary so British air/American air bumped us to the next flight at 9.20pm. We have long been loyal to kayak feeling it provides the best breadth of options and good pricing. Now we may use kayak to see all the options but I can’t booking directly with kayak anymore after this complete disaster. We ended up renting a car and driving from jfk to Boston, getting home 23 hours after our journey had started, stressed, beyond exhausted and now have to return the rental car. Thanks kayak."

Pros: "The plane took off and landed on time. Because airlines have so games their system by setting expectations of on time arrival so low that it is nearly impossible to not exceed them."
Cons: "The plane was so old the overhead lights didn’t work in our section (who failed to check that??). The overhead bins fell open at landing and things almost fell on people’s heads. There was subpar entertainment options that hadn’t been updated since at least the 90s, which was made even less acceptable since it was literally the only option for entertainment on a 7+ hour flight when none of the overhead lights worked. For a ticket that cost more than $1200, the failure of the airline on nearly all levels to provide standard services was completely unacceptable."

Cons: "The plane itself was clearly an older model, lacking many amenities I’ve come to expect flying coach. The overhead compartments were too small for larger carryon luggage, and no one on the crew alerted passengers to this. Thus, many passengers had to go against the traffic of those still boarding to find space for luggage. My seat was at the back of the plane so I had to spend close to 15 extra minutes walking back to the front against boarding passengers to find a place to put my luggage. A simple warning from the crew when I boarded would have prevented mine and many others unnecessary trouble simply boarding. During a very turbulent flight, the captain nor the crew made any announcements about turbulence, our safety, or our progress. Also during the flight, one of the flight attendants got into an awkward verbal spat with one of the passengers. Completely unprofessional and bothersome. Additionally, I had fallen asleep when dinner was being first served, but woke up before it was finished. A flight attendant approached me and asked if I’d like a dinner to which I replied “Yes”. The flight attendant never returned with a dinner for me, thus I did not eat the dinner, which I had paid for. Lastly, and perhaps most disturbing, was what transpired when a passenger had a medical emergency. With no warning, all of the airplane lights turned on and a loud “CODE RED” was announced over the sound system. Imagine being a sleeping passenger like myself, during a very turbulent flight, to be suddenly awoken to bright lights and a CODE RED shouted loudly over the PA. I’m not overexaggerating when I say that I was preparing for the worst. A truly terrifying moment that I am certain was shared with many others on board. To make matters even worse, as a flight attendant rushed to find a first aid kit (which she had trouble finding) she opened up the compartment over my partners seat and dropped a passengers ipad on her head. The flight attendant did return to apologize, but it was little consolation compared to the stress and panic the crew created. I have flown many times, and this was easily the worst flight of my life. American Airlines should be ashamed of the conditions they put their passengers in and they have lost two customers for good."
Cons: "We left two hours after scheduled departure bc 1) the plane was late from prior flight and had to be cleaned, 2) engine check delayed the flight, 3) strong winds forced the airport (JFK) to use only one runway for departures and so on top of our plane delays we were delayed an extra half hour bc of airplane traffic. No entertainment onboard, meaning no screen on back of seat in front for movies, tv shows, etc. Food options were poor, especially breakfast (too much sugar content in all contents of “continental breakfast” pack."

Cons: "Business class, Boeing 767-300 The seating configuration was 1/2/1 I would give these seats on a scale from 1 to 10 a 5, this was a very basic B/C seat, without a TV screen integrated to the seat in front of you, instead the flight crew hand out individual passenger entertainment systems, that are a pain to deal with and get in the way of everything your trying to do (ie eat, work, sleep.) I’m only 5’9 and I found when the seat was in the bed mode, the seat slopped down very slightly, and your feet would end up underneath the side table to the row of seats in front of you. As i wear a size 13 shoe, i found that space to be rather cramped especially for my feet."

Cons: "1) Biggest complaint is not about the actual flight we were on, but the one we missed, who left the gate Early, even though they knew we had landed and other people from our BCN to JFK flight made it. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING, esp since all other flights to DC out of JFK were cancelled. 2) We were on the last row of the plane so our seats didn’t recline. Annoying at best bc the flight was so short, but would have been nice since we had been traveling for 18 hours by that point (because of the late flight, missed connection, cancelled JFK flights, etc)."
Cons: "The e-ticket did not include the terminal information. As it was an Iberia flight I went to the terminal 7 where Iberia operates. However, after waiting on line when I got to the counter the attendant informed me that the flight was operated by American Airlines and I had to go to terminal 8. I ran to terminal 8 but by the time I got to the check in it was 6:15 and they said they said the check-in for the flight at 7(which was actually at 6:55pm) was closed for check-in. I was lucky enough that there was another Iberia flight (this one from terminal 7) st 8:30pm and the supervisor was able to find me a spot in that flight."
Cons: "The flight I booked was misrepresented. I thought I was booking a BA flight only to find it was American Airlines. This changed the terminal I was to go to and the gate in which our Italian non-english speaking driver was to meet us at. This impacted seating selection, as well. Was forced to buy a premium seat when I realized the seating chart did not appear when I purchased the tickets. Also, flight was three hours late upon arrival. I understand safety is paramount and am grateful we eventually were able to find another plane, but it begs to speculate if things would have been smoother on a BA plane."

Cons: "This plane is very small for an international flight, and it does not have the proper entertainment system for long flights. To top it off, the plane was very smelly; I got a headache because of it. We also had to return to the gate due to a technical issue and ended up leaving almost two hours late, which defeated the purpose of picking this flight over the rest as it was the one that was supposed to land in Milan the earliest. I will be careful next time I pick a flight to check what kind of airplane they're using. My assumption that international flights have the best airplanes seems to be wrong :(."

Cons: "Very old plane. Had the screens every 4-5 aisles. No control over the entertainment. Very uncomfortable seats, but so are almost every other airlines. The worst part about this flight was that I traveled with my girlfriend and when I went to check in, 24 hours before, there were only single seats left and there were so many open seats together that were considered “preferred” and had to pay $80 for just one “preferred” seat just so we can sit together on an 8 hour long flight. The seat didn’t even have any extra legroom or anything, it was a normal seat. American Airlines is just trying to squeeze money out of anything they can."

Problems continue for me 2 months later on this route and as a pattern it's incredibly unsettling. I'm questioning whether taking the return flight on a plane that's clearly begging to be retired"

Cons: "Flight delayed by 5 hours last minute, making my layover 17 hours long. The delay caused my car rental place to give away my reservation so I had to wait an additional 2.5 hours to get a rental car. The primary reason for my travel was a wedding and although I made the actual wedding, I missed most of the pre-wedding activities that I had rsvped for. The seats were really uncomfortable, particularly the lack of low back support. I was very sore after the flight and was unable to sleep despite having been awake for over 24 hours prior to the flight. We were finally given meal tickets but was unable to use as everything closed at 10pm."

Cons: "I bought travel insurance as I do with any trip. I have a complicated family emergency that forced me to call off the trip. Being that I bought trip insurance, I felt good. Well turns out they make you jump through so many hoops that your travel insurance fee is useless. I sent a letter to Allianz (the company that handles the travel insurance) and blasted them for their insensitivity in a difficult time. Going forward, I will not be purchasing travel insurance in the future. It may sound irrational but if you think about it, travel insurance is the tax on gullible people. You hear travel insurance and one assumes that if you spend the extra money on the insurance and something comes up, you can at least get much of your money back. Don't count on it! It's a 1/1000 chance they will do the right thing so the odds are not in people's favor. If you want to be smart, use the money you would have spent on travel insurance on some pre flight cocktails at the airport bar. Air travel is hellish enough without scams like Allianz!"

I had work and responsabilities the next day. TThe scheduled trip was supposed to take off at 7:45. Boarding started late and was very slow. My bag fit the meassurements and still was forced to check it (which I did not want to do as I did not want to be waiting an hour for my bag at my arrival as I had work early the next day. In addition there was airplaine traffic as it was "rush hour" instead of flying at 7:45 we departed almost at 9pm!!!! Have to pay for food Quality of tv monitors very poor And in an uncomfortable position No movie options No wifi although stated the aircraft has Non functioning electrical plug"
Cons: "The check in process at JFK was a disaster. The kiosk check in machines were constantly malfunctioning, where to line up was unclear, and staff acted frustrated. After several failed attempts with the kiosks you have to wait in line to check in at the counter anyways. It would have saved almost an hour of my time to just go straight to the counter-- had I been allowed to. I wanted to check a bag which contained some fragile items. Several bottles of wine which I wrapped in bubble wrap and cushioned with my packed clothes. I requested a "Fragile" sticker to be put on my bag. I was told "We don't do that here". So I asked if they handle ALL bags with extreme care and I was laughed at and told to go on my way. When I got my bag at my destination-- the outside of my leather suitcase was sliced to the lining. There were scuff marks and torn leather. My wine had been completely shattered. Not just a crack in the bottle, but flattened completely. My clothes were stained, my bag ruined. I don't know if putting a fragile sticker on would have prevented this, but I don't understand why they just "don't do that". We are trusting our property to the airline when we check bags. I will never trust American Airlines ever again. They don't want to know if I have anything fragile, and they don't care when I tell them."
Cons: "Our flight was 3 + hours behind schedule. We didn't get to take off until around 11:30pm when our flight was supposed to take off at 7:05pm. I have missed my itinerary and cruise trip with family members. Now I have to wait 2 days to catch a cruise and reunite with my family in Italy. It's not fear that the airline don't take consideration for this kind of situation. We understand that Things happens and the airline takes precautions to make sure everything is okay before take off. However, I'm very frustrated and disappointed."
Cons: "My family and I make I JFK -LAX reservation 4 months ago. We came to LAX three hours before our flight to make sure we get good seats. At the checking kiosk we did not have the option to pick seats , there was a message on the boarding pass that said to go see boarding agent. So we did, appreantly they over booked the trip and they were looking for volunteers to give up their seats!! Why did we have to be on stand by if our booking was confirmed 4 months ago!! They made us wait until the gate was closed and then they found us seats . This trip caused us mental anguish I will never fly American Airlines again"

The car had a bad odor and the driver didn't know who he was picking up or where he was taking us. Should seriously consider contracting with a different vendor. The next morning, after we boarded, we waited an hour on the plane before taking off while they searched for a maintenance book. The entertainment system did not work at all nor did the Wi-Fi. Overall American Airlines did a very poor job communicating the delays ahead of time. I won't be flying an international flight with AA again."

Flight was good food mediocre seats mediocre for coach extra.

The BA staff at the rear of the plane were extremely helpful and professional. Very unfortunately for me, I had developed a cough prior to flying, and when a couple of passengers complained they handled the situation very professionally and did not make things in any way awkward for me. Would most certainly recommend BA/Iberia to my friends for future travel.

Anyway, Iberia offered to rebook me the following day and put me on standby for the next flight to give me the morning to renew my passport. However when I came back to check in for the second flight, the original attendant had forgotten to actually add me to the standby list and in the meantime, my connecting flight had become overbooked. The check-in folks argued about whether I could be upgraded to fit onto this flight, but decided that since the original dely was my fault, the best they could offer was a flight at the same time the following day. I asked if I could rebook my return flight to push it back a day, and they told me that figure reservations could only be changed over the phone. I totally accept that monitoring the validity of my passport is my responsibility, but refusing to put in an ounce of effort to assist their customers with relatively unknown and counterintuitive restrictions, then not admitting to fault of your own or lifting a finger to make up for blatantly crappy service if it even slightly affects their bottom line is absurd. Do better, Iberia. Oh wait, you're an airline. I won't hold my breath."
Cons: "When I purchased the ticket I was never told that there was no allowance for luggage. Usually, this flights give you @ least (1) piece of luggage for free. In this case they charged the first piece 50 dollars and the second one $200.00.- After I paid 1500 dollars for (1) plane ticket , it is unheard that there is not even one piece of luggage for free. When I booked the flight there was nothing on the site about this. This was my first and last time buying a tickets from you guys. The fact that the fare was 200 dollars cheaper than other sites, ended up costing, 300 more. Never again with you guys."

Cons: "JFK-Madrid flight got delayed by 3 hours which would cause me to miss my connection for Madrid-Split (~2 hour layover), I asked the Iberia representatives at JFK about changing the flight and they reassured me that “the connecting flight would hold for us” and “no need to change our flight”. To our surprise the connecting flight already left when we arrived to Madrid. It’s clear that this was a case of “not our problem” from the JFK Iberia ticket agent. Rather than helping us find a viable alternative for our flight (namely a flight that doesn’t arrive more than a full day later) before leaving for Madrid they shipped us to Madrid where there were poor/no options for getting to Split at the original planned time. I’m very upset that I’m going arrive more than a day late to my destination and that I was blatantly lied to by the Iberia agent at JFK, never ever going to book a flight with Iberia again."

Cons: "The internet was very, very expensive! $35 for very very slow internet that didn't work half of the time. Also, before I departed from the US, the customer service rep at JFK made me purchase a refundable plane ticket for $2500, and charged me a non refundable fee of $35 for booking the flight for me ( I asked how to do it via the Iberia website on my phone and she refused to help me, and the website makes it extremely not obvious how to book a refundable flight). She said because my flight was one way to Europe I had to have an onward flight, even though I was traveling by car outside of Europe. She said that they would ask me for it at customs when I arrived in Europe. Well they have never asked me for this before, and they did not ask me this time either when I arrived, so this whole exercise was pointless. When I called to get my ticket refunded, they also charged me a $25 fee for refunding the ticket, which the agent in NY did not tell me about. So I just ate $60 for no reason. In addition, the customer service person was very rude about the whole thing."

Cons: "There was bad weather which understandably caused delays, however the communication during this eventual 16 hour delay was horrendous. We were told for the first two hours that we would be delayed each hour and then they would make a decision to delay another hour. This went on for 4 hours (the last two hours of which we did not receive any updates). The flight was originally scheduled to leave at 8:10. At 12:30am we were told our plane was at the gate and being prepared for us to board and the agent giving announcements said we were "guaranteed to leave TONIGHT". At 1am we were told that unfortunately the plane got to the gate just a bit too late and not the crew are not legally allowed to fly and the flight would be pushed back until 8am. At the time, I thought 7 hours was strange and I'd assume the crew would need more like 8-10 hours to rest. Unfortunately because we were told so late, all hotels were booked up. I live in NYC and would've gone home for the night however because we needed to be back by 6am (what the agent suggested), there seemed no point in leaving. We were not provided with any pillows or blankets until 4 in the morning. At 6am the next morning, we were told the crew needed "more rest time" and that our new departure time would be 9:30. How is it that the crew now needs more time? Shouldn't that have been figured out at 1am? Before we board, one of the agents thinks they will "lighten the mood" with the following comment - "Who would've thought a little bad weather would've caused this?" Absolutely not a time for jokes and people were very angry. We finally board for what we think is finally a 9:30am take off. No - now two new issues - 1, the co pilot is late (LATE? how can you be late when a flight has been delayed 16 hours) and 2, they needed to remove package from the plane for people who were no longer taking this flight. In the end, we took off around 11:30am which messed up a lot of peoples connecting flights, pick ups at the airport, etc. I will never fly this airline again."

Cons: "Food was tasteless and bland. Crew was not very attentive."
Cons: "We took the red eye and there were children that would not stop screaming and crying. This was not your usual crying infant. These children were able to speak. The crew did nothing about it and let these children yell and scream as they played games on the provided tv. Most of the people on the flight were displeased by this family that made so much noise."
