This ridiculous airline and it's rude, obnoxious staff in Chengdu made a mockery of my friend and I (two 21 year old American girls traveling alone). We had booked round trip tickets back in October 2017 that included a 1 hour layover in Chengdu first, then a 7 hour layover in Shanghai on our way to Bangkok for a trip in Thailand. That was fine with us. Then all of a sudden it changed to a 6 hour layover in Chengdu then an 18 HOUR layover in Shanghai. We decided to deal with it and get a hotel room in Shanghai, no big deal. After a great trip in Thailand and leaving fine from Bangkok to our first layover in Chengdu, that is where the nightmare started. First off, going through Chengdu customs, I don't know if it is because Americans do not travel through there a lot, but the officers pulled us aside and were passing around our American passports around their staff, taking pictures of them with Iphones before handing us "in-transit" paperwork to fill out. As weird as that was, no one really seemed to speak english and we just wanted to get away from them and get through. When we went to the check in counter, they handed me a boarding pass for our flight at 1:50 that afternoon, but then proceeded to tell my friend that she wasn't on a flight until the next morning at 7 am out of Chengdu and our original connecting flight out of Shanghai at 11:50 the next morning was now at 8 pm for her. What could have been simply fixed like it WAS after calling priceline and our travel agent, the staff at the ticket counter and a representative over the phone made our lives living hell. They barely spoke english and the ones that did were very rude to us, saying that they couldn't help us and put us on the phone with China Eastern. FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF we were on the phone with a representative who was talking us in circles, telling us that there were no available seats on the 1:50 and that he could get her on the next 3:45 out of Chengdu, then put us on hold to come back and say he couldn't only change 1 domestic flight in China, but would have to cancel her flight to NY. When offering to pay to just DO IT and get out of china, he said that if he were to cancel it and take our credit card info, it "may or may not go through" and if it didn't she would be stuck with no flights. When asked how that made any sense, he proceeds to say" Because miss, our system sucks," and other rude things like "Why can't you just keep your flight and meet your friend in NY." then him along with a rude ticket counter guy say that he could help us if we took 5,000 yuan out of the bank and paid them cash. TRYING TO SCAM US. After all this drama a simple call to priceline was able to fix the problem no payment involved, and there WERE available seats on all the flights and a domestic flight could be changed. LYING, SCAMMING, RUDE, individuals. Definitely worth a little more money to take any other airline BUT THIS ONE.

Crew are attentive, service is good.. food is good and legroom is better than most airlines.. The aircraft is warm and I had to call the attention of the FA and she took care of it.. I am surprised, being a gold member does not give you any priority regarding boarding.. Hopefully this will be addressed, especially to loyal clients..

i was broke and hungry so i didn’t get to eat much in the airport. in the plane after serving their meal i asked for a second serving and they were nice enough to give me a second serving of food. that was very nice

what i did not like about asiana was at the check in counter in New York JFK airport. the non asian clerk was pretty strict about overweight baggage. it’s my fault yes for not weighing them ahead of time but the clerk could have been more polite when speaking.

It’s difficult to choose what part of the flight was the best, but the overall experience will make me come back for more. The check-in process took very little time. The flight staff was friendly and courteous and had a smile throughout the flight. The lighting was so much brighter than with the first and second legs of my flight and the plane was very clean, to the point where one could eat off the floor. the in-flight entertainment, clothes rack, charger, and remote controller were all right in front of you instead of being tucked in by your side. The food quality was savory and refreshing. I should have asked for a second meal as it was that good even for a short economy flight.

the salad and desserts were excellent, as was the chicken and rice, but I would have appreciated a choice for my main menu selection.

I loved that the interior was completely darkened for about seven of the 12 hours of flight time.

I just couldn't get comfortable in economy class. Traveling in business or first class was visibly MUCH more comfortable, so be aware that it may be difficult to get to sleep.

JAL went above and beyond. The aircraft was very comfortable, temperature was near perfect.. Onboard entertainment was very good. Flight attendants were very friendly, very helpful. And with out a doubt, this was the best meal I have ever had in-flight.

I had about 30 minutes to change planes in Beijing cause of the flight delay (still had to switch terminals, check in and go through the border). I was met by an airline representative near the plane with a special bus and accompanied through all the bureaucracy very quickly. Excellent airline staff.

The flight boarded on time, and arrived only approx. 30 minutes late for a 15 hour flight. The staff were friendly and seemed well-meaning.

It seemed that the staff for the NY-Chengdu did not include anyone who spoke English beyond a few memorized phrases. Another passenger and I were standing in the back and speaking, and the crew asked her to tell me that we weren't allowed to stand there and had to return to our seats. Their lack of English would be a problem if there were an emergency of any sort. The flight attendant tried to wake me several times to give me my vegetarian meal. When I was finally awake enough to eat he said the food was no longer good, I should wait until the next meal time. Entertainment options for the NY-Chengdu flight were limited - current or recent English options were few. Foreign language (mostly Chinese) options had subtitles, but few looked like there would be an interesting and fun storyline. The entertainment system was broken for the Chengdu-Beijing flight.

Seats had good headrests with adjustable "wings" to cradle head while sleeping. USB plug below entertainment screen.

A good half the plane was first class and business class. (This was a 15 hour Hong King to Boston flight.) They handed out a fancy menu with 4 entrees but by the time they got to economy only pasta was left. We did at least get a small bottle of water; on our outgoing flight they doled it out in meager glasses. When boarding in Hong Kong we had to go through an additional security check between the gate and the plane (that was a first...) and had our water bottles confiscated. So we were reliant on what they would give us on the plane. Seats were tight, unlike some airlines that give you a little extra room. Wouldn't fly again unless their price was a real bargain.

I enjoyed the good check in service, and the excellent lounges. As always, the overall level of service on Cathay was good.

The utterly appalling seats on Cathay's old B777s are unacceptable for a premium airline. Non-reclining economy seats which are desperately uncomfortable for any flight of more than 1 hour, and completely unsuitable for an overnight flight. These planes desperately need a refit. Best avoided until this has been completed. The flight was overbooked, and the cabin crew seemed stressed and very busy. As a long term frequent flyer with CX, this was a very disappointing experience.

On both of my long haul flights I had very nice, new planes to fly on which were very clean. Staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating despite having a huge number of people to attend to. Food was good when I ate it. Seats reclined very nicely and there was the most room I've had on a flight ever. Still cramped, but you take what you can get! Would definitely fly again.

2 complaints I would pose. 1. If we're flying on a super long flight overnight, do you have to turn on every light in the pane to serve food? Can we not keep it kind of dim while literally everyone is trying to sleep? Also, why are you serving a meal at 3AM?! I know we took off 2 hours ago and people may want food before we get into the bulk of the trip, but it's 3AM! Everyone just wants to sleep and now the lights are on and you're offering me a full meal?! Believe me, it's great that you're trying to keep me fed, but come on, we've got 12 hours of flight left to go! 2. The movies offered were really sub par. The "new releases' only had a handful of movies I'd even heard of before and only like 3 I even cared to watch. The "movie classics" were the same way. Gotta step up your movie options when I'm trapped in your plane for 14 hours.

The only issue with CEA was checking in and boarding. It was brutal coming out of Bangkok. I’m not sure if this is the fault of CEA or Bangkok Airport.

Arriving on time even though it took off 45 min late

They lost all of our luggages(five pieces) and never attempted to locate them at LAX. Which were transferred from United airlines. It took eight contacts and finally reaching out to LAX office in 36 hours later, they located the luggages in 45 minutes. asiana from Inchon office kept on telling me that it is in LA office’s hand and yet they weren’t willing to call for LA office’s assistance. They were simply relying on the process which has been broken. Then upon the delivery, the driver informed us the severe damage in my tumi bag.

This ridiculous airline and it's rude, obnoxious staff in Chengdu made a mockery of my friend and I (two 21 year old American girls traveling alone). We had booked round trip tickets back in October 2017 that included a 1 hour layover in Chengdu first, then a 7 hour layover in Shanghai on our way to Bangkok for a trip in Thailand. That was fine with us. Then all of a sudden it changed to a 6 hour layover in Chengdu then an 18 HOUR layover in Shanghai. We decided to deal with it and get a hotel room in Shanghai, no big deal. After a great trip in Thailand and leaving fine from Bangkok to our first layover in Chengdu, that is where the nightmare started. First off, going through Chengdu customs, I don't know if it is because Americans do not travel through there a lot, but the officers pulled us aside and were passing around our American passports around their staff, taking pictures of them with Iphones before handing us "in-transit" paperwork to fill out. As weird as that was, no one really seemed to speak english and we just wanted to get away from them and get through. When we went to the check in counter, they handed me a boarding pass for our flight at 1:50 that afternoon, but then proceeded to tell my friend that she wasn't on a flight until the next morning at 7 am out of Chengdu and our original connecting flight out of Shanghai at 11:50 the next morning was now at 8 pm for her. What could have been simply fixed like it WAS after calling priceline and our travel agent, the staff at the ticket counter and a representative over the phone made our lives living hell. They barely spoke english and the ones that did were very rude to us, saying that they couldn't help us and put us on the phone with China Eastern. FOR AN HOUR AND A HALF we were on the phone with a representative who was talking us in circles, telling us that there were no available seats on the 1:50 and that he could get her on the next 3:45 out of Chengdu, then put us on hold to come back and say he couldn't only change 1 domestic flight in China, but would have to cancel her flight to NY. When offering to pay to just DO IT and get out of china, he said that if he were to cancel it and take our credit card info, it "may or may not go through" and if it didn't she would be stuck with no flights. When asked how that made any sense, he proceeds to say" Because miss, our system sucks," and other rude things like "Why can't you just keep your flight and meet your friend in NY." then him along with a rude ticket counter guy say that he could help us if we took 5,000 yuan out of the bank and paid them cash. TRYING TO SCAM US. After all this drama a simple call to priceline was able to fix the problem no payment involved, and there WERE available seats on all the flights and a domestic flight could be changed. LYING, SCAMMING, RUDE, individuals. Definitely worth a little more money to take any other airline BUT THIS ONE.

The staff are very efficient and professional. The food was much better than I expected. We were given pillows and blankets . Bathrooms were clean .

The only issue with CEA was checking in and boarding. It was brutal coming out of Bangkok. I’m not sure if this is the fault of CEA or Bangkok Airport.

The seat was nice

Service was extremely slow, it took almost two hours just to get offered a drink. There wasn't any offering after boarding and I had to ask just to get water. The food was quite bad, normally I would choose the Japanese meal, however, both the Japanese and International options were poor. The staff seemed unorganized and did not follow a set protocol.

The most attentive and caring staff, the snacks set up at the back of the plane, clean, comfortable planes, amazing food. Would always choose over US carriers

The in-flight entertainment set up is lacking. On a 13 hour flight on which your cellphone is banned even in flight mode that’s a big deal

It’s difficult to choose what part of the flight was the best, but the overall experience will make me come back for more. The check-in process took very little time. The flight staff was friendly and courteous and had a smile throughout the flight. The lighting was so much brighter than with the first and second legs of my flight and the plane was very clean, to the point where one could eat off the floor. the in-flight entertainment, clothes rack, charger, and remote controller were all right in front of you instead of being tucked in by your side. The food quality was savory and refreshing. I should have asked for a second meal as it was that good even for a short economy flight.

the salad and desserts were excellent, as was the chicken and rice, but I would have appreciated a choice for my main menu selection.

i was broke and hungry so i didn’t get to eat much in the airport. in the plane after serving their meal i asked for a second serving and they were nice enough to give me a second serving of food. that was very nice

what i did not like about asiana was at the check in counter in New York JFK airport. the non asian clerk was pretty strict about overweight baggage. it’s my fault yes for not weighing them ahead of time but the clerk could have been more polite when speaking.

Service, food and legroom, cleanliness

Crew are attentive, service is good.. food is good and legroom is better than most airlines.. The aircraft is warm and I had to call the attention of the FA and she took care of it.. I am surprised, being a gold member does not give you any priority regarding boarding.. Hopefully this will be addressed, especially to loyal clients..

The Food was great! Asiana Airlines Economy Seats have more leg room than most airlines. Service was Excellent.

We had just purchased coffee and the boarding agent told us that their policy was that we were not permitted to take hot coffee onto the aircraft. My guess is it had to do with safety. I've never been told this on any of the hundreds of flight i've been on traveling the world. It must be a South Korea thing.

Check in was fast, the staff was helpful and nice. Simple streamlined process

The website was pretty bad functionality wise. It took me 2 hours and a couple phone calls to be able to online check in for my flight in advance. Then during my trip I was trying to look at what costs and fees would be associated with changing my flight and extending the trip. The website was hard to navigate and offered very little information
