We missed our flight to Kual Lumpur --where we had a driver waiting, a hotel for 2 nights, and a tour the next day. We lost ALL of those and did not arrive in Kuala Lumpur until 2PM the next day. Timing was CRITICAL that we be in Kuala Lumpur the night before per the schedule. China Southern served no beer or liquor on their international flight --only cheap wine in the smallest plastic glasses I have ever seen."

They began looking for hotel rooms after the departure time had passed. I was in the last batch taken to a hotel where I had a choice of sleeping on the tile conference room floor or sharing a room with a stranger. At least I got my own bed. Others had to share a bed with a stranger. There was no prior thought given to prepare for the situation, no meal vouchers offered, and the level of rudeness displayed by the airline staff was beyond comprehension. Delays happen. They are part of modern air travel. But, in many years of international travel, I have never before seen a delay mismanaged so completely.. Then to top it off, bags were left in NY."

Please keep in mind I purchased the ticket on July 3, 2016 and Airfare.com was unable to provide me a complete ticket until the night of August 16, 2016 with a August 17, 2016 departure date to China! I can honestly say this was the worst travel booking experience I've ever had."

(I tried several times to call earlier in the week and the phone system at China southern is terrible - was on hold for a long time every time then the operators were not helpful at all). I waited in the check in line for an hour and a half. Several times I witnessed people going in the business class line and they clearly were not in business class but they allowed them to just jump the line anyway. (I realized this once I was finally able to ask for an upgrade - not until I got to the gate counter because the guy who checked me in didn't understand my request, poor English - and once on the plane there were very few people in business class and I know those people who had jumped the line were not among them ). Very disappointed with the whole process."

Cons: "The Overnight flight I had was EXTREMELY uncomfortable. Too uncomfortable to even sleep at all. The seating is so tight, I could barely move my legs when the seat in front of me was reclined (and I am tiny!) I landed after my connecting flight was already boarded, causing an employee from the airline to announce my name over the intercom on the plane and tell the passengers to "clear a lane for me." I ran with my suitcase over my head, bumping into people and making it to my next gate...where I was told there was ABSOLUTELY NO ROOM for my carry on...which was also, very tiny. I specifically did not want to check my bag because I needed to immediately hop off the plane to make it to work on time. Another customer was VERY upset about having to check his bag and was pulled aside. I finally was told I needed to check my bag at the gate to get on. So i did. As I entered the plane, about half of it was COMPLETELY empty with PLENTY of room. I was floored. About 10 minutes later, the very angry man happily entered with his carry on and stored it easily in the overhead bin. My frustration was at a peak. But I said nothing. When I arrived to Newark, I rushed to baggage claim and guess what? After 30 minutes of waiting, my bag never showed up. I had to check in with information and finally found it. But this caused to me to be late for work. I have usually had a great experience with United. But this experience has changed my mind completely and am very upset."

The flight attendant called to me and said to wait. One of the attendants came up with a wheelchair and said he would take me. Unfortunately, a steep ramp had to be used to get into the airport building. He asked another worker to help him and all the way up the ramp I had to listen to comments about "good thing they had eaten their Wheaties" and "they were getting a good workout." I know that I am not a small person, but these ongoing comments were rude and insulting. When we got into the gate the attendant told me that he didn't have my name on his list and had to call for permission to take me through the airport. I waited and he came back and said he couldn't take me, but if I could wait someone else could come for me. I had waited enough already and suffered their rude comments, so I said no thanks and walked slowly through the airport. This experience has left me with a bad feeling for the airline and its personnel. I believe their staff could use sensitivity training at the very least!"

Cons: "There was just one minor thing. The stewardess that was giving us the bread almost at the end of the meal suddenly got impatient (?) and we think rude. I was with my husband and son. Our son was very sleepy and wasn't being very clear in responding whether he liked a bread or not. So as the stewardess was standing there waiting for us to figure out whether he wanted a bread or not, my husband said just to give it to him instead (he hasn't had one). She dropped the bread on my husband's already used food container (plate) with a very obvious attitude of impatience. Mind you my husband is a veteran with a severe case of PTSD. Flights already make him anxious let alone getting this sort of treatment. It was good that he had taken his meds prior to boarding and that made it easier for me to calm him and not make a scene. Otherwise it could have been a very ugly experience. It is for this one reason that I couldn't give an EXCELLENT review on this segment of the flight."

Thought I was there at the time of boarding, they would not let me board, because I was not within their 1 hour check in time so I missed the flight. Since connections to Korea are only once per day, I was delayed a full 24 hours and endured several more hardships that could have been easily avoided with some good customer service. Also, it was stifling hot inside the aircraft and the crew could not seem to help cool it off despite twice asking them to get me some air-flow."

We asked for a beer when the first drink service came around and were told only juice or water was available, while the next row of seats were served multiple beers without issue. After the service was over we rang the attendant button, it was immediately shut off and no one came to assist us. Rows ahead and behind us ran an attendant and were served. We asked again for a beer and were told they didn’t have it (these were all by the same attendant that was serving our area, who was liberally serving others in our area) We eventually got up to and went to the service station, where 5-7 other passengers were standing, helping themselves to beers in the carts and pouring themselves wine while flight attendants stood there chatting with them and continuing to ignore us. Eventually we were able to get ones attention and were able to secure two beers, after being told Mulltuple times that they didn’t have them, while other passengers were being served multiple at a time, or helping themselves to the beverage carts in the service areas. Staff was unprofessional and the entire flight was a battle for service. I have flown many 12+ hour flights and never had any stress or issues whatsoever, this was a new and frankly terrible experience. I am wishing my flight home was not with this airline, as I am afraid of a repeat."
