Pros (+) I picked the YMCA because it was a cheap option that wasn't quite a youth hostel and was very close to an event I was attending at the Brooklyn Expo Center. Not much in the way of amenities, but I got a decent-sized room that was simple but clean. The staff were all helpful. Basically what I expected for my money.
Cons (-) Shared bathrooms and no mirrors in the rooms are slight (but expected) downsides, though the ladies' room was clean and the showers worked well. Right after I arrived an employee made her way through the halls spraying air freshener will-nilly, so the place reeked of fake flowers for a while, but luckily that faded.
