KAYAK’s top tips for renting a car in Danville

  • There are numerous benefits to using car rentals in Danville over public transportation. Danville car rentals offer you complete control over your trip. You can avoid public transportation's time and route constraints and adapt to spontaneous changes to your itinerary. Furthermore, with a rental car, you can go directly to your destination, enabling you to save time and enjoy your getaway to the fullest. A rental car also provides a personalized travel experience. Personal space, air conditioning, and comfy seats make your vacation more comfortable. Lake Vermilion County Park is a popular site for fishing tournaments and waterfowl hunting that you can best explore with your Danville rental car.
  • Danville is served by the University of Illinois Willard Airport (CMI). Several car rental suppliers have counters at CMI within the terminal across from the baggage claim area. Renters will be asked to present a major credit card, a valid driver's license, and an International Driver's Permit for those whose licenses are in a non-Roman alphabet. Afterward, you will be awarded your rental agreement and keys to your car just outside the baggage claim. Drivers must be at least 21, and a young driver's fee applies to renters ages 21 to 24.
  • Understanding the driving culture and road conditions before using car rentals in Danville is crucial. Drivers are usually polite, and they follow road rules and regulations. However, they can be aggressive during peak traffic hours. Rather than retaliate, stick to defensive driving to avoid causing road rage that may lead to accidents. Danville's roads are in good condition and are regularly maintained, and most of the roads in the urban areas are paved. Danville is in a hilly area, and you may experience many bends and curves, although significant roads like US-150 are straight. In the downtown area, pedestrians are prevalent, but they mostly use sidewalks.
  • Before using car rentals in Danville, you should know that roads are usually packed in the morning from 7 am to 9 am and in the evening from 5 pm to 7 pm. US 150, IL 1, North Vermilion Street, and US 136 are affected during the peak hours, and there is slow vehicle progression. Alternative routes include Gilbert Street, Sycamore Valley Road, Main Street, and Bowman Avenue. Drivers should be particularly cautious when traveling on Danville roads in the winter as they are snow-covered with reduced traction.

My experience using Enterprise was great. The staff was friendly and helpful. They also noticed a screw in the tire during the vehicle pre-inspection. This saved me many troubles on the trip had I experienced the flat during the trip, and it also led to a free upgrade to a nicer vehicle since they didn't have another comparable vehicle on the lot.

They did not have the car we reserved available. We had reserved it for $81. They wanted to rent us an SUV for $450. Said they could not negotiate the price, we canceled the reservation. Did not rent the car, had to find one somewhere else because we could not pay $450.

I had a terrible experience with Avis at Willard Airport in Champaign-Urbana. Despite booking months in advance and confirming twice, I was left without a rental car. The manager, DeAndre McPherson, assured me the keys would be set aside for my late arrival, but on the day of my flight, I was told this wasn't possible, and he was on vacation. I tried to resolve it with another rep, even becoming a preferred member, but nothing worked. Avis failed to inform me of options ahead of time, causing major travel disruptions. Terrible communication and management.

The vehicle was fine. There was a lot of external damage (paint chips, dents and scratches) that we documented before leaving. When I asked if they needed to see the photos at car return our service person simply replied no, so I am hopeful I won't have to address this again. Overall the pick up and return process was straight forward. Both staff members that helped us were mediocre ( didn't provide much information, seemed bored with their day) and could have added to a more professional experience. They did the job adequately, just nothing to write home about.

Staff was friendly, but did not have car I reserved. They offered to rent a larger car for more money. I ended up using Lyft instead of renting a car.
