Pros: Our van was not ready for the day requested, so the staff lent us their shuttle van so we were not stranded, or incite extra costs for taxis. This was appreciated, particularly given the price deception.
Cons: The price advertised was dramatically less than what was actuality. While this was a red flag, it remains categorically price deceptive. Beyond this, we were expected to participate in a timeshare presentation.
Pros: Newer model van
Cons: Fee did not include “mandatory” liability insurance. Was not explained prior to booking. More than doubled the anticipated cost of rental vehicle
Pros: After I get to the place, they surprise me with an additional $431 of insurance fees and taxes.
Cons: After I get to the place, they surprise me with an additional $431 of insurance fees and taxes.
WHAT FOR HIDDEN FEES
Pros: P/U and Drop off to airport
Cons: They charged us 16% for 'airport fees' to p/u and dropp off. The airport is across the road from rental. Our original base quote for the same vehicle for same number of days was $350 USD. We ended up being charged just over $1,000 USD. Watch your 'extra's" Don't initial the quote on any fees you don't agree to. We ended up paying 16% airport 'tax' and 18% VAT. Insurance is a ripp off. $41 US per day. Will never rent from this place again
Pros: actually, I/we can't comment. at the last moment before we were to make the trip, my wife's brother died and we had to go to his funeral instead.
Was charged way more than expected
Cons: We started off with our total for 7 days being $69. We ended with it being almost $500. I expected to pay more for the basic insurance that they make you get in Mexico and I asked for the minimum. I was told the minimum was $39 but for $40 she would give me the full so for $1 more we went with that. My parents got their car the next day and got the insurance for $20/day so their car was over $100 cheaper than ours for the week. When I said something at the end the guy said well you signed it so that's what you have to pay. Unfortunately in another country when you don't speak the language you get scammed easily. We knew this could be an issue so that's why we went with dollar cause they have a good reputation but this was an awful experience.
Insurance cost more than rental cost
Pros: I am used to having to pay a high price for insurance when I rent a car, but I was not prepared that the insurance cost would be much higher than the daily rental cost of the car itself. The price on the kayak website shows $50 per day for the car. When I got, to Dollar I was charged $65 additional per day for the insurance.
Triple the price Kayak tells you!
Pros: When i made the reservation, it was $94.01 total for 4 daya. When we arrived at Dollar, we were informed we had to buy the mandatory Mexican insurance. The guy wanted $275! After some haggling he brought it down some, but the fact that we had to HAGGLE for what we thought was a guaranteed price (especially after a long flight) was a crappy way to start our vacation. We will NEVER use Dollar again.
Pros: We liked the car
Cons: We were forced to pay more at the location.
