They forgot to install toddler car seat
Pros: Great car except for seat belt problem and fact that Hertz forgot to install car seat that we requested in writing and verbally
Cons: So we had to return to pick-up location for car seat. Then when we removed car seat to adjust straps for our four year old we could not get he seat belt to ratchet and lock properly to secure car seat, so we had to return to pick-up location a second time(!) for a service person to help with their tricks for getting this seatbelt to work! Basically it cost us two full hours before leaving on a busy holiday weekend.
Broken key fob
Pros: Finally after much debate the supervisor who didn’t have a name tag on was finally helpful and understand and starting to show customer service.
Cons: We were given a faulty key. When we went to our first stop and turned off the car the fob blew apart in my hand. We were able to put it back together again to where it would function and we could continue our trip but it was a nuisance the whole trip. When we dropped off the car the receiving faculty tried to hold our credit card for $500 until claims dealt with us. We ended up speaking with the superviosor and after quite a bit of debate she finally took the hold off and allowed us to leave.
renting on Australia's east coast
Pros: The pickup/dropoff went well, especially the help when we returned the car. Car was very comfortable, clean, drove well, and we had no problems.
Cons: When we picked up the car, I asked for a map - especially of how to get to the motorway in Sydney. Was told they didn't have any maps. We used our cell gps, but when you go through tunnels service gets dropped (duh) making it a bit stressful about what turn might be next. I was surprised (frustrated) that even a city map was not available in paper form (come on, Hertz!). Next problem was discovered when we got home and I was paying my credit card bills. When my reservation was made, Hertz charged my credit card one day rental costs. But the system never reflected this when renting or returning the car, so I was charged the full amount when dropped off. This is NOT the fault of the return agent, but the Hertz system. I have since sent an email to Hertz and 2 days later still no reply. If this gets resolved, then my rating might go up - but if it takes more work on my part to get resolved, then rating may actually go down. Also, I thought the charge to drop off at a different city was a bit steep - especially since it seemed like more than twice the actual rental cost.
Cons: the return place is not easy to find, i spend nearly 1 hour for finding the place to return my car and also the traffic there
Pros: Price was good. Car was as advertised.
Cons: I requested a rental at SYDNEY AIRPORT, the pick-up and drop-off was about and hour away from the airport, no shuttle, and cost us $100 to get there by Uber...
Pros: Multiple drivers at no extra cost
Pros: Brand new car
Cons: Air Conditioner did not work
Fast drop off easy to find
Pros: Only negative, was it seemed we couldn't get our stuff out of the car fast enough.
Average at best
Pros: I like the fact I was able to rent an SUV with back-up camera. The vehicle was fairly spacious. The vehicle was clean and had a full tank of fuel. Renting the vehicle was pretty much hassle free at the counter.
Cons: What I didn't like was there are no restrooms at this Hertz location office. They do have a single unisex stall in one of the Hertz garages. It looks like it's for the garage employees. There is no soap and obviously hasn't been cleaned in a while. I rented a vehicle from this location twice. Each time I was instructed where to go to find my vehicle. In each case, I didn't see any attendants. In each case, I just hit the key fad to find the vehicle. I then inspected the vehicle and drove off. Finding and returning the vehicle to its William St location can cause a major headache. It helps to use GPS. Traffic is a major problem, there are no right hand turns allowed when coming in from the north and you have to return the vehicle to another garage from where you picked it up at. No one inform me of this before picking up the vehicle. The employees got really upset with me when I tried to return the vehicle where I initially picked it up. Also dragging your luggage 300 yards over uneven pavement can be a real hassle.
Be aware - there are two pickup locations at SYD
Pros: Rented a mid size SUV. Nissan X-Trail advertised but Hyundai Tuscon delivered. This is as expected with any rental car company. The point is the car was actually better than that promised. Use the promo code 109491 for a substantial discount (expires Sept 2016 I think) Was charged only slightly more than the estimate. It pays to dig down on each company to get the quotes which include the fees, They make up a substantial portion of the cost (37%)
Cons: My car was at the international terminal. I assumed they only had a counter at Domestic so I made a needless ($12) round trip between terminals. The agent stated 'you know you have a $4,000 excess'. I took out insurance (provided by Allianz). Their policy says nothing about an excess (deductable)! This is all handled as a separate transaction. Thankfully, I didn't have any issues. Not sure how tolls are handled. I was only told "not to worry about it" There was no charge on my final receipt except a $130 rego fee. Best scenario is the tolls are included in the rego fee. Most likely scenario is I will get an additional charge on my card for actual amount. Worst case is the RTA will issue fines based on Hertz providing driver information. Nothing was given in writing.
