Pros:Had car, went smoothly.

Cons:Ford Focus; Car stank of smoke, had to buy wet wipes to clean interior, trash was under the seats, exterior was also filthy. On first day warning flashed to say oil change was needed, then engine started to smell of smoke. Garage visit showed that oil was below minimum, so we topped up and then looked to return to Hertz as we continued to get oil change warning. People on phone very apologetic, but staff at counter were not. we were given a tiny 3 gear Yaris instead, luggage did not even fit in trunk, no central locking, bad air con. Staff at counter very rude. We asked for car equal to Ford focus, which we paid for, eventually after 50minute wait we got a Kia Soul, still had tiny trunk but at least had more comfort and decent engine size. I was very disappointed by the whole experience. You would think if you brought back a car because of engine trouble (never mind the total lack of cleaning), that due to the inconvenience you would get a decent apology and exchange car. Instead we were made to feel like we had inconvenienced Hertz. My sister went on to NY after CA and she chose Budget to rent car due to this experience.
Cons:When we arrived at Sacramento Airport to pick up our rental from Hertz on July 14, the line at the Hertz counter was well outside the grid and overflowing down the hall. The line was not moving. Their appeared to be a shortage of staff at the counters but customer conversations were taking an unusually long time. While my wife waited in line, I went to the Hertz Gold counter (I am a Gold Member) the woman there told us at first that they didn't have enough staff to help me accelerate getting a vehicle. Later we were told that since I booked through a third party my Gold status wasn't applied to the reservation. We returned to the line and made almost no progress. After more than an hour it was apparent that our wait would likely be at least another hour. Since we had deadlines to meet, I went to another companies counter and rented a car from that company. I later called Hertz to cancel my reservation.
Cons:No changes allowed, no cancellation. Kayak said they can't change the reservation, talk to Hertz. Hertz said we can't change the reservation, talk to Kayak. So I paid for a car I couldn't use. Blah.
Cons:they tell you one thing and then do another. they screwed me for another $100 bc one employee told me I could drop car off at 10pm when really they were closed and dont have a drop off person. either way im never using hertz again. the people they had working for them in the office in escondido are very unintelligent and made something that should have been easy very difficult.
Pros:We chose downtown Sacramento rather than the airport due to the price. We saved quite a lot of money by taking a Lyft (less than $20 one way). It was very easy and we would do it again. Staff was very friendly.

Cons:Didn't like the agent, Nathan, customer service. I asked where I could find the car, Nathan said "I told you and wrote it down." Hard to understand why someone is in customer service when they think this is an appropriate response!

Pros:Paid for a rental and never got it. Wasted $176. I'll NEVER use them again. I also will go to my bank and claim a fraudulent charge. Thanks Hertz, you suck.
