Nice enough. Probably the best Hilo has to offer. Needs some love. The elevator noise from our top floor room was a bit much and we were a few doors down from the elevator shaft.
The really nice and welcoming greeting of aloha from the tall young man at the front desk. I wish I could remember his name, I believe it was a hawaiian name, he really made my stay as well as my other family members rooming on different floors right at home. Lack of parking spaces, and longer valet service.
The staff was nice. The room just o.k. The room was tiny and for the price was a bit of a rip off. The balcony didn't lock. One of the smallest rooms I've stayed in and the bathroom reminded me of a hotel 6.

Breakfast buffet was extremely expensive, even with the discount, and food was terrible. Pancakes too hard to cut- yes, could not cut with a fork! Pancakes, bacon, and sausage were cold. Potatoes were OK. $18.00 for cold, hard food.
Very nice location close to Hillo downtown and various activities. Complimentary breakfast would have been a good addition.
I was there for business so unfortunately, I did not have a chance to enjoy the amenities or meals at the hotel. The room was large and comfortable. The staff that I did encounter (only checking in and checking out) was pleasant and shared the feeling of aloha. The view was lovely, even if we did not have an ocean view. The wi-fi in the room was not free. I ended up using my hotspot to connect, which was necessary for my business. There was not an ice machine on my floor and not sign or notice in the room where to find it. At that time, I didn't want to call or go look for a machine on another floor. It would also be nice to have a separate light switch for the toilet/shower so I would not disturb my co-worker when I woke up early to get ready. I ended up using the flashlight on my phone.
The hallways and rooms smelled like smoke. There was a dead spider on one of the beds. You could hear everything from voices, lanai sliders opening and closing to doors slamming.
It was a very clean hotel room. Comfortable settings. I did not see anything that I did not like.
It looked to be a wonderful facility based on the online reviews. Because was needed to cancel our honeymoon due to a medical emergency, we were unable to visit the hotel, and further elaborate. When faced with impossibly tough circumstances, human decency usually triumphs. But, the Palms Cliff house took 100% our money and offered us no compassion when we faced our toughest times. It was the night before our wedding. A typically joyous time. We notified the Palms Cliff House 7 days in advance that we needed to cancel our honeymoon. My wife's grandfather was undergoing emergency surgery and had a 50/50 chance of survival. We provided official medical documentation to both hotels.com and Palms Cliff House. We acknowledged that their standard rate is non-refundable and asked if they could help us out. We had already paid $450 for our stay. Could they help us apply that credit towards our rescheduled honeymoon in a few weeks? Every other hotel, airline, and rental facility that we worked with on the Big Island was amazingly compassionate. As if the trauma of canceling your honeymoon on the evening of your wedding wasn't bad enough, Palms Cliff House would not budge an inch. They insisted, after multiple phone calls to both Hotels.com and Palms Cliff House management, they would not offer us ANY sympathy. First they blamed Hotels.com and said that we needed to call them and work with them. Hotels.com insists that the managers of the Palms Cliff House can change their refund or change policy on a case by case basis, and when we called Hotels.com, they would then call Palms Cliff House and be told "nope, no refunds for them". When I finally got ahold of the Palms Cliff House management I found no sympathy or customer service. Changing the dates for our stay? Allowing us to use the amount we had pre-paid towards a future date? A partial refund, even if only a 10% refund? Nothing. I'm sure it would have been an amazing place to stay. Unless you value compassion and understanding in your hotel stays.
The view of the waves crashing onto the cliffs below was unparalleled. Service was excellent, personal, friendly. A hidden little gem on the Hilo side of the Big Island. Ask for the pineapple turnovers at breakfast :). Highly recommended.
Location close to Hilo Airport
The check in time was like 12 noon. I arrived 7 in the morning and could not find a place to rest up before check in time. The hotel must advance the the customer that they can't check us in before actual check in time. When I got to the restaurant nobody attended to me while I was given a seat for almost 20 minutes.
Convenience for personal business and non-resort hotel accommodations.
The location next to the airport was nice. It is within a reasonable walk to downtown Hilo. The hotel feels old and could use some renovation. It was also very hard to find our room. Breakfast doesn't start until 7am, so we missed it due to an 8am flight.
The hotel brags of.being part.of.the only Hawaiian owned hotel group. It has some pretty courtyards and the pool is ok. The attached restaurant is convenient and the rooms are affordable. They have laundry facilities onsite which we liked because we travelled with carry on only for a ten day trip. Also, it is located on Banyan drive, where the walk is amazing. After walking that road, we decided we had the right hotel if we were staying on that strip. The others were a bit intimidating to walk by, we thought. The rooms themselves are a bit run down. Clean, bit run down. The desk staff were not particularly friendly. Children playing in the pool were using tiles they found from the pool wall for diving and the poolcould be cleaner around the rim. Some of the rooms feel like you are in a cave. We were happier when we moved to the second floor.
Location of the hotel and its surroundings is beautiful. Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. Room that we got was not one of the best. On one side there is a road/highway and other side there is pool. Constant noise from both sides. Room electrical needs improvement. One switch turns on bathroom and other lights which can be disturbing for other persons in the room. These are minor things.
Economical, friendly and helpful staff, close to garden and Coconut Island. Windows are unsealed glass vents so there will be various common bugs that share your room, including small roaches. Nothing compared to a cabin in the woods, but those with bug phobia may be concerned.
No elevator to 2nd floor = tough to get suitcase upstairs.
Clean. Great breakfast, not just continental breakfast. Friendly, helpful staff. Nice laundry. Convenient to everything. Close to airport. Very Affordable. We will refer everyone to this Hotel.
the hotel is a good value - it is an old building but well kept. The front rooms have a nice ocean view with balcony. Being in Banyan Drive it is a nice walking area. No elevator - must carry luggage up stairs
The restaurant attached to it. Food was good and staff were friendly. The room was damp and the carpet was too old.
No one told us the whole building was a construction site. No pool, no restaurant, no wifi, pictures looked new and updates but rooms were old and run down. Construction workers in the lifts all time. Staff were friendly but no one even apologised for the inconvenience of the state of the hotel. Very disappointed but all we could do was laugh.
Beautiful room with ocean view
We stayed there because it was convenient to downtown Hilo and it was cheap. Turns out it was cheap because the hotel is under renovation and few of the things they promised on the website were actually available. No WiFi was probably the worst offense since I was intending to work remotely during our stay. Not that they promised us a tub plug, but another disappointment was that I really needed to soak in a tub and relax, but they did not provide a plug for the tub so it was impossible to use it. Shower only. Additionally there are no carpets in the guest rooms or hallways and no seals around the doors so even fairly quiet neighbors were disturbing to our sleep and lights passed between adjoining rooms through the huge gaps around the door.
Great location, rooms was nice enough, awesome views. The place is under heavy construction. Has a really odd 80's feel to it.

Friendly staff. All tile floor for cleanliness. Beds were comfortable. Shower and bathroom was cloean No continental breakfast, but is renovating kitchen.
The hotel is under going renovation and should be quite nice when done. All in all a nice quiet clean place to stay. The staff was nice and the free parking was helpful. The continental breakfast as extremely limited. You need more than cheap little muffins and cut pineapple every morning.

Location. We upgraded to a seaview balcony room. We watched sea turtles swim in the tide pools and the sun set over downtown hilo all from our room. The room looked older but was kept quite clean. Bathroom was spacious. The portion of the hotel that is currently in use is older. They are building and rennovating more units but that means construction during daytime hours. Because of this, the hotel has a temporary, unfinished feel with many workers coming and going. The hotel also has no restaurant, but there are many options close by. Wifi only worked in lobby due to construction.
Close to the airport, on the water with beautiful views. The room was clean and recently renovated, plain but plenty of space with a large bathroom. Walking distance to a beautiful park and along the bay. Parking was free and no difficulty finding a spot. Hotel under construction, but that really didn't interfer with my stay. A/C worked great in my room. I would stay again.
We were 1 of 3 couples. All 3 rooms were under me. The room were clean n the bathroom were huge. Im a big guy and appreciate a huge bathroom. The towel were too small. I went to the front desk and asked for 6 pool towels since i had 3 rooms and 6 people total. The person who checked us in was working and she said no, I could only have 2 beach towels. I went on saying that "you checked me in for 3 rooms. Then she gave me the 6 towels. I'm hard to forget being I'm a 6 foot 6, 380 lbs Hawaiian man. As I was leaving another man came to the desk and asked for 4 pool towels and had no problem getting them. I felt that I was treated unfairly.

Checking in was easy and fast. The staff was friendly! The room smelled musky. The carpet was grimy and so was the covers. It made us itch. No coffee maker.

The woman at the reception desk when we arrived was full of the aloha spirit and very helpful. Location overlooking the bay was pretty. The hotel was worn and had seen better days.

The most hospitable, friendly, and down-to-earth family run hotel I've stayed at. Very clean and simple accommodations with an excellent light breakfast. Great location and atmosphere. No complaints at all!
