The fashion and prestigious draw of New York City inspires the Arthouse Hotel. It is located on the Upper West Side and is a short hop to the subway, only two blocks away. One of the prime local treats is the American Museum of Natural History, which sits a mere eight minutes away, as does Central Park.
The rooms benefit from adequate lighting, both natural and installed, and some have balconies that allow guests to take in views of the city first hand. The suites have more living space to make the stay more comfortable for those who want a little extra room.
One of the most prominent features is the art displayed throughout the hotel. It is provided by local artists, which lends a local, unique flavor to the hotel that could not be created through any other means. Guests are treated to a virtual gallery of inspiration throughout the property.
A casual Italian restaurant offers some of the fare that New York has become known for, and there is even a genuine speakeasy-style bar. Guests get the chance to perch on top of the city using the two rooftop terraces. When it’s time to handle business, they can slide into the business center and take care of any pressing needs using the technology provided there. Steps away is the comfortable lounge complete with a piano. The atmosphere is further enhanced by a fireplace and a library with books to suit a variety of reading needs.
At once a combination of art and hospitality, the Arthouse Hotel offers a balance of the energy of New York and the relaxation one needs to get away from it all.

The location is perfect, close to Central Park, the museums, and great dining. The lobby and bar/cafe areas are beautiful and roomy. But the rooms are very cramped and the TVs are outdated with only cable as an option. However, if you’re there like most, to be out in the city, then the rooms are just great for crashing and a shower. CVS across the street is perfect for buying snacks and other necessary items. Avoid Serafina, the onsite restaurant. The food quality is so disappointing. Try Tessa’s on Amsterdam. It was so good we ate there for lunch and dinner. Staff was great and we would definitely stay again.
Beware of the cost. This hotel added an "urban fee" of $40 per night. For what? Coffee and water? No transparency at all. When you check in (we got there at 8PM) you sign the agreement and they don't tell you nor do they advertise in any way that the rate is REALLY, PLUS $40.00. If a hotel wants to charge you (just for example) $200.00/night- then say so. Don't advertise $160.00/night and then when you are checking out add an "Urban Fee". Six months prior we had friends stay here and the hotel called it a "Resort Fee". Really?
Cons. It was freezing in room and washroom. I turned up heat and still the cold air from the window and washroom were cold Something wrong with that room . I never had that problem before.
Pros. Location
Cons. Room had no heat in December! When dealing with this, staff was unresponsive and slow in communicating about a room change. Very unprofessional.
Pros. The overall feel of the hotel was very unusual, I felt a bit like a genius going back to my secret speak-easy lair in the 80s in an alternate steam-punk universe. The feeling of the hotel is loudly industrial modern.
Cons. The industrial modern feeling of the hotel left everything feeling cold and dark, making it hard to really ever feel "at home"
Pros. Location is great. Rooms are clean and big enough.
Cons. Beds are high and a bit nerve racking with small children.
Pros. Liked the location, next to good restaurants, shopping, coffee shops, Central Park, museums. Subway is a five minute walk, can get downtown in 20 minutes. Digital thermostat was great for temp control in the room. Came with a Keurig and replenished with 3 k-cups every morning. The staff, especially the doormen, were very friendly and helpful. Serafina is connected to the lobby, has a great brunch. Some reviews stated the rooms were loud, we had no problem during our stay, it was quiet. The bed was very comfortable and sheets were soft. The room was on the small side, but expected in NYC and honestly all the room we needed for 2 people.
Cons. Decor felt a little like a college dorm. The whole back wall with the TV was full of black scuffs and brown globs - looks like it has rarely been washed. Wish it would have came with a refrigerator as we weren't able to keep any cold drinks in the room. They are trying to be minimal with the decor in the bathroom, but only one towel hanger? Come on.
Pros. Other than the size of the room which is typical of NYC, overall a nice hotel. We travel to NYC 3-4 times a year. We liked the lobby area of this hotel, friendliness of staff and location on the upper westside.
Cons. Room cleanliness could have been better and there is a large construction project going on next door so if you are traveling during the work week ask about room location
Pros. Great room, location and a friendly staff
Cons. Nothing really
