Kayak tells you the required insurance is included in the rental cost. I get there, and they insist their minimum requirement is more and force me to purchase additional liability coverage. It was total BS! IF you want to risk going with this place, buy the full coverage with the reservation, otherwise they strongarm you there and its even more expensive.

i was required to pay $315.00 Mexican Pesos per day for mandatory insurance when in fact my credit card provides full accidental coverage. When i insisted my credit card provided full insurance covereage, they still refused to rent the car without this so called "mandatory" insurance. this is a total rip off. I will not rent from Alamo in Mexico again unless you reverse this ridiculous robbery.

Plane arrived late, there was no one at the Alamo counter in the airport despite still being within hours of operation. I was told they close at any time if they no longer have cars to rent, but then my reservation was not honored. Will never rent from Alamo again, poor customer service in puerto Vallarta.

Pros:

Terrible staff. Location is NOT in airport, it’s miles away. Made us wait for 20 minutes for pick up. Once there they did not let me deny insurances although I am insured by Amex. The forced insurances were more expensive than the car rental itself. I tried talking to the manager but he was equal or worst than the employees. When we checked the car for damages I tried to do a video but the employee would not acknowledge the date, name or name of the company. Left my Amex cc open for a couple thousand dollars only to fin out one day later that “someone” tried to use my card for internet purchases upwards of $3,000 usd. TERRIBLE COMPANY

The rental car company seems to fleece customers by adding optional insurance as mandatory and then taking and holding a huge deposit of thousands of dollars inspite of it with very vague terms . They will not rent at all unless you agree for all the optional things and the deposit as mandatory. You company has to be clear with it with the clients/ customers about this

My vehicle was crashed and was not made aware. I saw it before leaving the location. They promised to change it but never did and said no vehicles were available. They did not call me back I had to call them back on three occasions. They offered me no discounted price. They knew I needed that bigger vehicle and said they had no other to give me.

Once we got the vehicle we wanted it served it’s purpose

We were completely scammed from the minute that we walked into the Hertz office in Mexico. They took advantage of us and it was very sad. Even though our taxes and fees were including the rental price they forced additional taxes and fees which we knew was incorrect. They forced us to get insurance when we wanted to waive it and we had already confirmed that we had insurance with both our auto company and through our credit card before hand. We were also forced to pay for the full tank of gasoline when we have only usedLess than half. The entire experience was very unfortunate and wrong. They also wouldn’t give us the keys to our vehicle until we sat through a seminar on excursions and “” discounts because we got a car rental. We should not have been forced to do that.

The car was not in the best condition, engine light on and multiple areas with damage. No handles on the boot and filling cap release. Took almost an hour to get the car once I got to the rental shop. Was charged additional insurance even though I have worldwide cover and then an extortionate warranty of 1333 dollars which because I was using a debit card I had to pay an additional non refindable 66 dollars. 2 bars of fuel on the gauge. A rental that started at 57dollars ended up costing over 200. The hidden fees are a joke and I will not be in a hurry to rent a car from this company ever again

Prices were quoted in CAD and were asked in USD at a way worse rate than what I anticipated, and with no internet on the spot to verify and show my reservation I had no choice but to accept and go with whatever they were saying. The car was in rough shape and not particularly clean, with the radio inoperative and bits ands broken inside, and at drop off they charged me 190$ for a cleaning fee because there were some dog hair on the floor in the back. Overall when I should have paid 425$ Cad I ended un paying over 1100$ cad. I should have stuck with the competitor’s rental, this was way overpriced and will definitely not recommend to anyone.

The Price tha Kayak says and the price they give on the spot, it is not the same. How come can I get an 181$ US rate for a week here and on the spot the agent tells me it's 560$ US with insurance. I think I am supposed to be aware of the full price in advance, before getting there on the spot the day of. Where are the hidden fees? Or is the agent trying to rip us out? Something it is not right here, renting a car it is not supposed to be an awful experience, and every time it causes me anxiety cause it is never the right price you negotiated. Never coming back!

By far the worst rental car experience of my life. We were charged much more the the rate advertised on Hotwire and the “insurance” charge made my total 3x more than what I found online. $360 USD for a 2 day rental, MORE than I paid for an entire week rental with a different agency in the area the week before. On top of that, the agents tried to charge us an extra $1000 pesos to clean out a little dog hair that was in the car for “extra work” they would need to do. The manager tried to negotiate with us when we argued, and lowered it to $500 pesos, as if it was some kind of deal that we had to negotiate. There was nothing about dog hair in the contract, and when we pointed that out, the agent pointed to a different section about smoking in the car, claiming that it also applied to dog hair. Anyway, we didn’t want to pay this absurd fee so We took the car and cleaned it with OUR HANDS and it took 10 minutes. We read terrible reviews online but decided to risk it since it was only a 2 day rental. It was way overpriced, a horrible experience, and honestly the whole company seems like a giant scam. Knowing the reviews, we were cautious on everything: we brought the far back a day early, full tank of gas, got the 100% insurance coverage, and they still tried to rip off a client like us. Hertz should be ashamed to be associated with this company, and they should also be investigated for fraud, based on our experience and others I’ve read. I will never be renting from Hertz again and I will be sharing this review with everyone I know.

Cons:

I reserved the car, place my credit card info. And once I got their I got told yeah here's your reservation and we have your car. But a few minutes later they told me I didn't book it correctly and that they didn't have a car for me. It was extremely frustrating because then I had to try and find a new car rental that same day. Very poor service.

Clerk did not explain the insurance policy at all and we ended up paying double for the rental because they did not allow us to use our credit card insurance. Really bad experience.

This was a Hertz/Dollar combo place so keep that in mind but that is how it goes at the PVR airport. I was coerced very strongly to buy additional insurance even though I already had adequate coverage for what is required. The rental price shown at the counter was higher than booking by $30 or so and attempts to demonstrate were summarily ignored.

Despite the fact that I had made a reservation for a vehicle, when I arrived to pick up the vehicle I was informed that they did not have any cars available for me and they could not estimate when a car would be available nor could they help me to locate another vehicle to rent. I will never rent from Dollar again.
