They forced me to take insurance I did not need.
When I booked through Kayak for a car at 10 pm collected at airport, it recorded as 9am from the city depot. Sixt would not change it without rebooting the whole thing at twice the price. Kayak just referred me to Sixt. I had to change my inbound flight to arrive a day earlier at a cost of 400 euro rather than pay Sixt 700 euro more to rebook the car.
We had a wonderful experience with Sixt, but I doubt we will ever use Kayak, again since Kayak failed to mention we needed a note from our doctor concerning our fitness to drive which is a requirement if you are over 75 years of age, Fortunately, Sixt was able to work with us until we could obtain the needed documentation from our doctor, Rent from Sixt again? Definitely! Use Kayak again? Not very likely.
The guys there were great. I had never driven on left side and they really made me feel good about it!
Cons:The insurance was very expensive. We were not told of the need to AdBlue additive for diesel and only learned when the dash light went on. It cost 22 euro paid cash and did not have a receipt to get reimbursed.
Cons:We dropped a lot of money on a rental car and when it was time for pickup they wanted an additional $150 for insurance. No option for a refund and the customer service was terrible. Next time I will reserve directly with the dealer and pay at the time of pickup. We were stuck forking out extra money
Cons:Overpriced obligatory insurance, long wait line at pickup, overselling extras. Not competitive with Europcar.
Pros:The dropoff was simple and easy, but everything else was atrocious. Last time I ever use Sixt.
Cons:4 hour wait at the office to pick up the car. Sixt staff directed us from their office at Dublin Airport to the satellite office where the cars are kept, where I and over one hundred others stood outside in the freezing cold being processed at the speed of snail. Then, shuttles from the airport arrived every ten minutes bringing people with SIGNED contracts from the main airport office. These people were able to cut in front of all of us already waiting. We all had reservations, but Sixt had refused to process the vast majority of us at the airport, then changed their minds, thereby screwing us as we waited in line to sign our contracts while others could cut to the front. Add to this the sudden addition of hidden and last-minute fees not noted online when I made the reservation...this company is manipulative, deceitful, and will never get my business again.
Pros:Would not rent from them again. First car received had a bulge in a tire upon pick-up from rental site; second car they tried to give us had one tire that was almost flat. Third car they gave us upon pickup was okay. Spent a couple of hours in the process of getting an acceptable car that did not have safety issues Thee agent also insisted that we had to insure the car with their insurance and not our own quality insurance policy and it was quite expensive. Overall this was a bad experience and I would not recommend this rental car company to anyone.
Cons:Drop off location at Belfast city was impossible to find and 10 mins away from airport.
