They didn't honor the Ford Transit I'd reserved and instead offered me a minivan. I arrived at the counter and they told me if I wanted the car I reserved, I'd need to pay an ADDITIONAL $105 per day for an "upgrade." I showed them the email that identified that I had booked a Transit. They didn't care. The manager was extremely rude and ran off when I asked them to honor the original reservation. This was extremely disruptive because I'd a trip planned that included 9 passengers. I did NOT reserve a minivan, but a 12-passenger van because of this reason. I think potentially Kayak messed up this reservation (putting the transit as a preference not a requirement). However, my email confirmation said Transit. Either way i didn't get the car, my reservation was canceled, and I was left scrambling. That DCA Thrify location was the absolute worst customer experience I had ever had.Reviewed Sep 17 2026

Hertz rep at the counter argued I booked the wrong category and proposed me a smaller compact car while my booking clearly mentioned suv compact. Finally managed to get it after arguing with him who «kindly » proposed me the proper car « for free ». The car park was full of suv compact cars so definitely not a shortage issue.
