Signage for Alamo as you come off elevator at DCA was a little confusing. You have to stay on level A1 to get your contract, then bring contract to Level A3 to pick up car. We went to A3 first because it was the only signage we saw. That meant we had to return to A1. Not a huge deal, but a time saver if you know it. Other than that, Alamo was A+ all the way!!!

Hyundai Accent gets good gas mileage, but I booked a mid size vehicle. The attendant said we only have this left. He was with another company so didn’t go over anything. Used to taking pictures of any scratches or holes in seats. We have photos that the car had wear before we drove it. Over 40 k miles on a rental. A little higher than normal.

Negotiating a pick-up at DCA (Reagan National Airport) is not for the faint-hearted. Although I was prepared for unknowns, I was not prepared for being yelled at in the garage -- by someone who was probably not a Budget employee. When I reported this to the Budget desk, the employee was kind and sympathetic but the whole experience left me shaken. I was told that my car would have GPS but it didn't even have a map. All in all, go to DCA for pickups and drop-offs only as a last resort. Try suburban branches first!

8.0 ExcellentJan 23 2022
Overall, it was a really good experience. We were offerel an upsell on a larger car and decided to take it, knowing we'd be doing a lot of longer distance driving. The only thing I found really confusing/frustrating during pickup and the use of the car was the third-party toll service. It was explained to us very quickly, and it turns out it was explained inaccurately (luckily, in our favor). Still, it's a high cost (about 50% of our total cost between tolls and the use of the third-party toll service is the third-party's fees), so if you know you'll be traveling on toll roads I'd recommend planning ahead and having cash or using other options as available.

It's was an exceptionally busy weekend for travelers, yet the staff was well organized, prepared, and communicated to each other well. It was late, and the Thrifty desk transferred to work with the Hertz desk. The concierge taking me to the vehicle apologized for it taking so long to get to my vehicle, but instead I was surprised how quickly they got me there considering how busy it was.

When the agent looked up my reservation at the counter he noted it was a same day rental and he was out of cars and couldn't honor the reservation causing significant disruption to my travel plans. Thirfty should not be listed as a rental option on Kayak the same day if vehicles are not guaranteed to be available. If this is standard practice for Kayak and/or Thrifty I will not be using either service going forward when I need to book a reservation I can depend on.

The agent working at the airport is very unpleasant. He had me waiting in the line so he could finish playing on his cellphone and then make a personal call. When I had questions regarding the price difference and why I was being charged twice, he wouldn’t give me answer but highlighted portions of the agreement . It felt degrading. The car was not cleaned very well in the back. They vacuumed the floors but not the seats. The pick up experience was much better. The attendant was extremely friendly and helpful.

Priceline charged me full price even when I told them I made a mistake reserving the car at the wrong airport (Ronald Regan instead of Dulles). They did not care. They said no refunds for any reason. They would not even give me any sort of credit for a future trip.

When attempting to pick up rental, no one was at the dollar counter so we were directed to go to the Hertz counter. We got recommended to upgrade to a bigger car and toll pass. The car was fine but trying to get out of the parking garage took 20-25 minutes. The guy at the booth was so slow and in no hurry to let people out. We tried backing out to choose another lane but that didn’t work so we were stuck and departed the airport much later that expected.

I didn’t end up using this booking as there was one person working the counter and long lineups. After waiting 45 minutes I was nowhere near the front of the line and then learned that once you were helped, it could be up to another two hours for a car. I had limited time to see my family and wasn’t going to spend my day at Dollar. I called Enterprise and was out of the airport under 15 minutes.

I am sorry that the lowest level is "poor". There should be a lower rating. I had paid for and had a reservation for over a month. At Regan we had to wait almost two hours for a car. Also the Agent responsible in the garage was rude, when I inquired what my status was. By the time we received the auto, it was way past closing time to get something to eat. I will never use Dollar nor Hertz again.

Absolutely nothing - The entire experience was a nightmare. The car they initially rented to me was broken and required software updates. There were no tenants around to help. I received my second car over an hour later and was unhappy with it due to the car being uncomfortable and full of blind spots (it was different than what I rented as well -- and definitely not any sort of an upgrade or similar to what I rented). The second car they gave me had a bald tire and I experienced a blow out less than 300 feet from the garage door in the driveway leading to/from the rental location. And then they charged me for the blow out.

The cancellation policy was unclear when making the booking. It was unclear how to report the dents I located on the car before I drove away. I paid the DAILY rate, picked up the car at noon, and indicated initially I would return at 9PM. When I inquired about returning the car the next morning instead (4th of July in DC, all the access points to highways were closed to it was extremely difficult to get to the airport), they told me I had to pay a $65 extension fee even though I had paid the equivalent of 24 hours.

Great car but overpricedThe car was great; it was spacious and roomy. We booked an SUV but were given a Ford Fusion. It was more expensive than the SUV, but we were charged the price we were promised at booking, which was really great. We just wish we'd been able to get what we originally reserved--or that we'd been able to book a 4-door sedan at the SUV price (for some reason the SUV is less expensive). But we had plenty of room and the car did what we needed it to do for the week we had it.The only thing we didn't like was that we booked an SUV and were given a sedan. But, since the SUV price we were promised at booking was cheaper than the sedan price, Enterprise honored the price we were given at booking even though they gave us a pricier car. We appreciated that. In order to get the SUV we originally booked, we needed a major credit card. We are a credit-free family, so we didn't have one to offer. Therefore they gave us the size car they could give us without having a major credit card on file. It all worked out fine; just was a bit of a hassle to begin with.

Finding the location for pickup was confusing. The signs around the airport only direct you to car rental return and not pick up. The transit van was old and part of the back interior kept falling off in the cargo area. It was clear that wood shims were being used to keep this part attached and was not doing a very good job of it. This van should be retired. The counter rep was very friendly and helpful. She answered all of my questions.

Our experience with Avis was by far the worst car rental experience I’ve had in over 30 years of renting vehicles. The pickup experience at Regan National went well until we checked out the vehicle, a 15 passenger van. The sliding door on the offered van would not latch regardless of the effort put in trying to close it. We were given another van which seemed fine until we attempted to drive it over fifty MPH when the steering wheel started to shake so violently we almost lost control until we slowed to 30 MPH. I am not talking about the vibration experienced when a front wheel is out of balance. This was dangerous, violent shaking. Using back roads we went to the closest major Avis location at Dulles Airport. We received no help at all. Road side service wouldn’t help because we were at an Avis location. Dulles counter staff would not help because rented from a different location. After a couple of hours we were allowed to speak with the manager who told he didn’t have a replace van but Regan National had three but they would bring one to us at Avis Dulles and Dulles Avis would not take us to Regan National. The fact that Avis rented us a van that was not safe to drive didn’t bother them at all. After three waisted hours we took an Uber to my home and took multiple personal cars on our trip,

one of the worst car rental experiences I've hadThe car was pretty clean and drove decently. There were no major dents or scratches.Pick up was done with an agent that was a bit less than friendly. The car was in desperate need of an oil change and tune-up. Drop off was even worse! The man that did The Returned was abrupt and barely willing to help me in any way with my luggage or anything else. The woman who was driving the shuttle for me back to the airport insisted that I get out in spite of the cold weather and walk so that she didn't have to be inconvenienced by dropping me off at the normal stop. It was cold, I was hauling three pieces of luggage and it only made my experience that much worse! One of the three gentlemen who were on the shuttle who have been picked up at the stop (and had waited far longer than they had expected) called this service "not so ez" car rental. I now understand why he called it that. I won't rent with this service again.

They closed early and stranded us at the airportOur airplane was slightly delayed but still arrived before midnight which is when E-Z rent-A-car closes. But for whatever reason they decided to close at 11PM, before we even landed, which left us stranded and looking for an available car rental at the airport when all other agencies were closing soon. Fortunately we did find one but ended up spending nearly 7 times as much for the car. I have half a mind to file a complaint with the BBB and get EZ to pay for this since it's their fault we were left in that situation. I will NEVER rent a car with them again.

Would pay extra at a competitor next timeWe received a Chevy Cruz and it was very roomy and clean. The price was right but the check-in experience made it an uncomfortable experience. The expectation that I would carry around my personal auto insurance policy is outrageous. I just happened to have an app with my insurance company on my phone showing my name which prevented me from having to pay for the EZ car rental protection plan. I’m a frequent renter of cars and this was a first. Outrageous! We waited over 30 minutes for the shuttle to pick us up at DCA but ended up taking a ride from the hotel next door or would have missed our appointment that we had to rent the car for. My advice is to pay a little extra and be treated fairly and honestly.

We picked up at Airport but we didn't fly in and it was a little tricky getting to the office when we were driving in. Once inside we went to the National Desk but there was no one there, the issue was that there was a window open and it had a coat on the chair so it looked like someone had just stepped away. We waited, knocked and called out but no one came. Finally a worker passing by said we needed to go to the Alamo window and that did work fine But there should have been some sign at the National desk telling us to do that. The rest of our experiences were very good.
