The Kia assigned had a malfunction of the air conditioning system that likely had been noticed by an employee during cleaning. When I called the Hertz location, I got no answer multiple times. I then called another local Hertz that was actually closer at that moment and the same thing, no answer multiple times. I drove to that second location and they swapped the vehicle for the only thing they had available, a Jeep Wrangler. Much worse fuel, mileage, and noisier, but at least it worked. It had not been cleaned up at all and had around 3/4 of a tank of fuel. When I returned it, I noted the experience with the kind & concerned staff member (in another city,) and she kindly credited a good portion of the rental for all the mishaps, which I very much appreciated.Reviewed Jun 6 2026

3 hour delay getting the car despite a reservation and checking in online. Ridiculous overbooking which is entirely the fault of Hertz. Hertz scammed me – I selected a date on the website, they booked me for a different one, and didn't allow me to change or cancel the trip they wrongly scheduled. I ended up having to book another one with a different company at the airport.Reviewed May 3 2024

The drop-off was fine. The Pick Up was extremely disappointing. We arrived at Reagan National and went to pick up our Hertz rental car. Once at the counter the representative (she was very professional) informed me there would be a 90 minute wait time to get our car. I explained to her that we arrived "on time" and also spoke to her manager - explaining that we flew in that morning because our daughter in law was having her baby that same morning and could they please see if these special circumstances would help facilitate our getting a car - they were both very polite but flatly said no, they could and would not. We had to wait.. So...After 45 minutes I spoke to the people who provided the keys to your customers at the Hertz pick up spot and explained our dilemma. They were quite empathetic and helped us immediately in obtaining a car after that. I feel your team at the counter could have tried harder to help us out when I explained our dilemma. Again they were very professional, just unwilling to be of assistance when we had to get to the hospital ASAP. The bottom line to Hertz is... Will we use Hertz again when we return to the DC area next month? Probably not due to the experience we just had.Reviewed Feb 1 2024
