Flights from Minnesota to North America: the best tips from KAYAK users

Insights shared by verified travelers who flew the route from Minnesota to North America

Even with tight (< 1 hour) connection in Montreal, there was ample time to get through customs and to the next gate. Very smooth.
KaylaFlew with Alaska AirlinesMSP-SEAApr 2025
Be prepared for possible long wait at security, make sure to check baggage policies and carry one allowances.
NykiFlew with Sun Country AirMSP-PVRMar 2025
If possible travel for longer in case there are flight issues.
MatthewFlew with FrontierMSP-DENMar 2025
Bring a seat cushion? The seats aren’t very comfortable.
BrandyiFlew with DeltaMSP-BWIJan 2025
If you’re coming from an international destination to MSP airport, choose a layover that allows at least 90 minutes. You deplane, then you go through immigration first. After that, you pick up your bags from the carousel, then you stand in a long line to go through customs. After customs, you have to drop off your bags, then stand in line to go through security. All this before you see the terminal and gates to connecting flights. Many travelers missed their connecting flights because several flights from International destinations arrived at the same time at MSP airport, and there was only one line from the baggage pickup carousel area through security. Give yourself plenty of time; a layover with less than 60 minutes is risky.
AlanFlew with Alaska AirlinesMSP-SEADec 2024
We need more maps or layouts of the airport available and what's available when flying to the next airport or where terminals are located to maximize time when there are layovers.
JeffFlew with DeltaMSP-PHLFeb 2025
Pick one airline a stick to it for the status.
JaevesFlew with DeltaMSP-ORDDec 2024
Stay longer in Minneapolis airport because Chicago is a nightmare.
RoderickFlew with DeltaMSP-BDLNov 2024
For 7a flight, arrive early! Security lines were very long.
ErikFlew with Spirit AirlinesMSP-DTWAug 2024
Just don't fly spirit. Better to pay a little extra for Delta, united, southwest or american for the increased customer service reliability.
JoanneFlew with Air CanadaMSP-DENApr 2024
It was not clear to me that my Air Canada flight would be handled by United, so I had some uncertainty about check-in. A United employee helped me check in eventually. Check for code-sharing partners.
MaggieFlew with Sun Country AirMSP-TPAApr 2024
Get to the airport a little over 2 hours early if you have kids for a smooth experience
PhilipFlew with Sun Country AirMSP-LASApr 2024
Check the fees and add them to the cost of the flight
JosephFlew with Air CanadaMSP-YYZApr 2024
This is a great flight but carry on must be smaller
LindseyFlew with Air CanadaMSP-YYZMay 2024
We typically fly Delta but again, first time flying Air Canada. The plane was small so don’t expect any overhead room for bags (outside of small purse/backpack).
Verified travelerFlew with DeltaMSP-SEAApr 2024
use restroom prior to boarding, hallway very small
Verified travelerFlew with American AirlinesMSP-DFWApr 2024
dont use american airlines if possible. if you have to make sure that your layover(if youre flying through) is at least 1.5 to 2 hours…
DouglasFlew with DeltaMSP-YEGMay 2024
If you can avoid WestJet you’ll have a better experience.
DonFlew with DeltaMSP-HNLJan 2024
We took Delta to Hawaii and American back and I will avoid American in the future. Delta's flight were much more comfortable and had much better entertainment offerings, with American was uncomfortable and had only wifi offering to be viewed on your cell phone.
ArmandFlew with LATAM AirlinesMSP-MIADec 2023
TSA pre check was faster and more efficient then CLEAR
RonFlew with DeltaMSP-PVRFeb 2024
Delta was excellent, but immigration at Mexico during busy time (before most hotels check-in) took an hour just to clear and people packed into extremely long lines like sardines and was stuffy, pretty brutal and wasn’t expecting that.
Verified travelerFlew with Spirit AirlinesMSP-PHXFeb 2024
After all of the fees and having them change our flight drastically, flying delta is less of a headache and not much more

The connecting flight came in 45 min late but everything else was great

Absolutely easy travels and no cost cutting by the airline.

Their snacks and hospitality was amazing. They offered full sized snacks. Im talking full sized water bottles, full sized snickers bars, gold fish, full sized canned sodas, what ever you wanted they took care of it for FREE. The crew was really nice and hospitable. I was honestly shocked

Our bag was lost so that made unnecessary chaos On our trip

Delta is my preferred airline. I've traveled with them for years. On time in most cases, good communication, easy to use app. Most planes are pretty nice. I was on a CRJ 700/900 however, which was pretty badly aged inside and needed a refresh. No infotainment, unreliable wifi, best to download before boarding or bring a book. Food choices are really just snacks on this flight, nice variety but about what you'd expect. Great staff and prompt in departure and early arrival too. Overall quite satisfied.

Crew was friendly Love the entertainment in the seat head rest.

Delta flight was on time, seats were comfortable, and crew was nice.

This had nothing to do with Delta… The flights were on time and flawless. The service was excellent. We purchased seats in (aisle/middle) comfort plus since this was a cross country flight. Unfortunately, the woman seated at the window was 300+ pounds and, as might be expected, covered up about a third of the middle seat also. there was absolutely nothing that Delta could have done about that… I just don’t know what the answer should be. If you purchase a seat, you should should be able to use the entire seat and not just the portion that someone else is not sitting/oozing in. Disappointing…there should be something that could be done….I'm just not sure what solution could be.

Delayed take-off. Very small plane so very scary with lots of bumps during the flight. Would never fly Delta on short flights in small 80 seaters plane again! Felt relieved when landed.

The worst part was I was NOT allowed in the lounge even though I was holding a first class ticket and have a premium American Express card. I have flown Business or First Class with many airlines. Delta is the ONLY one who does not extend this courtesy to anyone except people who hold the very expensive American Express card. As a result, I won’t fly Delta if I have any other choice.

It was an overnight flight and I desperately needed coffee before we landed, but Delta does only one beverage service, and that is shortly after takeoff, not before landing at 5 am.

A little bumpy ride . No food was being provided due the the turbulence. That was ok it was a short flight to my standards.

Simply outstanding. Their new lounge for Delta One customers is a cut above the rest.
