a must, you need a to car to get around there is a lot to see. There’s a lot of good food plus try the shave ice cone. I haven’t seen any bad vibes the people here mind their own business. The food can be pricey at Maui so be ready and save.

Pack snacks and patience. Ear plugs or noise-cancelling headphones are a must!

Long Beach is a great airport and I would gladly fly out of there than LAX

Hawaiian Airlines is the best. With food service , good entertainment and great customer service. Can’t go wrong.

If you’re flying on the 8am flight, they serve a yummy breakfast sandwich. Maybe skip breakfast in the airport. Oh and you can buy top ramen onboard too, and they’ll pour in hot water for you!

FAQs - booking Maui flights

  • Which airport in San Francisco do I choose to travel to Maui?

There are three airports in the Bay Area where you can board a nonstop flight to Maui. If you’re flying on Alaska Airlines, you’ll be flying out of the Oakland airport. But, if you’re traveling on Hawaiian Airlines, you can choose between San Francisco International Airport or San Jose International Airport. If you prefer a quiet airport and don’t mind which airline you fly on, the least busy one is Oakland International Airport.

  • How long is the flight to Maui from the US mainland?

If you’re flying nonstop to Maui from San Francisco, the average flight duration is 5h 30m. If you have a layover in Honolulu, account for an extra 30 min for the flight from there to Maui. For passengers traveling from other destinations in the continental US, it depends on how many layovers you choose and where you're flying from. For example, a flight to Maui from New York with one layoverin San Francisco could take about 10h.

  • Should I fly nonstop to Maui from New York?

If you have limited days to travel and want to reach Maui as fast as possible, then choose a flight to Maui from New York with a short layover in San Francisco. Alternatively, you can break your trip in two and have a longer layover at San Francisco International Airport. The airport has nap rooms (about $40 for 1h) if you need to rest before the next leg of your flight.

  • I’m staying in Lahaina. Which airport in Maui should I fly into?

Kapalua Airport is closest to Lahaina (10 min). However, when it comes to airlines and commercial flight options, you're limited to Hawaiian Airlines, which operates inter-island flights from Honolulu. Kahului is more convenient, because you’ll have more flight options and airlines to choose from. The airport is about 40 min from Lahaina by car, and most hotels offer shuttle service to and from the airport.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from the United States to Maui?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from the United States to Maui.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from the United States to Maui?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight from the United States to Maui is likely to change within 7 days, so travelers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from the United States to Maui?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional round-trip ticket. You could then fly from the United States to Maui with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from the United States to Maui?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying from the United States to Maui up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

Unfortunately, an issue occurred where a delay impeded me from making my connection in LA. I couldn't get a flight home until 10 hours after my originally scheduled flight. Once I finally made it to DFW for my connecting flight, my next flight was delayed. I was supposed to be home on 12/23 at 9:00 p.m. I didn't make it home until 12/24 at 11:00 a.m. I was given the choice to either take a flight the next day or the flight that way 10 hours later. I wasn't given an option for a hotel if I stayed overnight. I was also denied the ability to go to the Alaska Lounge due to the delay. It was a very uncomfortable experience. The only seat I was able to get on the next flight was in a row where the seats couldn't recline. After an extended wait at the airport, this was very frustrating!

Paid for first class, but the flight attendant for first class did the minimum required. She really ever came to pick up the trash, and never asked if we needed anything. Every person had to ring for the flight attendants if they wanted any extra drinks. When I went back to use the restroom, she was just sitting on her phone.

We don't have food or entertainment on this flight. We were late boarding but then arrived in Yakima early. Kayak sent me a delay notice but we weren't delayed.

Nothing! I just didn't eat or use entertainment. I had three seats all to myself and it was wonderful!!!!

The confusion from Alaskan Airlines to American, no one at the front desk of Alaskan told me I didn't have a flight, which made me miss my flight that was transferred over to American TERRIBLE customer service at Alaskan!! American Airlines was a great experience. Alaskan TERRIBLE!

I paid $49 to select my seat---6A a window seat just behind first class. When I started to get on the plane I was told that my seat had been given to someone else and I now had a middle seat. They finally gave me an aisle seat. When I told them I wanted my $49 back, I was told I would need to call alaska and fight with them to get my money back. And when i was on the flight people going by kept hitting me with their bags. I have tried calling alaska twice to talk about a refund but never got thru to the right person!

The kiosk for check in/bag check in. I liked the older version where you did everything on the kiosk (check in and bag tags). This time I needed to use my phone to check in and then scan the ticket from my phone to complete the bag tags. I didn't care for this new method. The older method was simpler.

Flight crew had the courtesy to ask passengers from my first flight to allow those of us disembarking to go first so that we could make it onto our connecting flights. Worked like a charm. Both crew and fellow passengers working together for a better outcome for all.

Weather caused delays, but since I was in no hurry I asked to reschedule for any other day to make room for anyone in need of keeping their schedule. Alaska accommodated my request with an extra bonus - with a credit to my account for another day…. Always had great experience with the Alaska folks.

We missed our connection to Portland and ended up having to drive.

Great service. Great staff. Boarding was a little slow, but I think there was a service dog slowing things down.

Flight left early and arrived early. the whole trip was excellent.

Seats were really tight and the seat belts did not give enough slack.

I like in St George and prefer to fly out of CDC than SGU. Hopefully, they will continue the flights out of Cedar

Broken jer bridge. Poor communication about it. Lost 2 of 4 luggage pieces

Overall, it was okay. Seat was a little cramped. Would’ve liked more substantial snacks or opportunity to buy some.

Newer plane, relatively easy boarding, not a full flight and was told that we could not be moved up because of weight and balance issues. Otherwise, a very good experience.

Other then mechanical/ computer problem and 3.5 hours flight delay the flight was great. I guess that what happened when you fly an old airplane now a day.

I was with one of the last zones to board. It was kind of annoying to finally get called to board and my whole section was already on the plane. Clearly they boarded with previous zones. So by the time I got on board, there were no spaces for my luggage above my head. I had to put my luggage 4+ rows behind me, which meant that I had to wait even longer to get off the plane, since I had to wait for those rows to clear the aisle before I could retrieve my luggage and exit the plane. This also held up the plane cleaners, as they couldn't service my row until I cleared it, so they were all standing there waiting for me, while I'm standing there waiting for the other passengers to clear the aisle. Anyways, I wasn't in a rush this time, so I just waited, but I could see that being a problem in the future. Now, I could have checked my luggage, of course, but coincidentally, a friend of mine on the same flight got their luggage damaged (wheel completely knocked off) and was told by the Baggage Attendant in the airport that Delta doesn't "cover wheel damage" on luggage. This was disappointing to hear. I'm glad I didn't check mine through. If it were my luggage, I'd be highly frustrated to hear that. It makes me not want to check my luggage in the future.

The dear was very limited in space. I could put my water bottle in seat basket. Also, there was no inflight entertainment in the delta app?

The food was good but for the landing we had to wait 30 mins for the other plane to depart to its destination

I would like diabetic options for food. Seating was a little tight. Everything else went smooth

Good service because of wheelchair. Tight seats. Some announcements were hard to hear or understand. No directions for working the seat video or meanings of the icons. Coming into the country and changing planes was terrible with long lines and few desks open at the end. I had to go through twice because they found my tiny knife with fingernail scissors and file, when they scanned my checked luggage, and in order to keep it. I had to go through that long line a second time. Going home the luggage was checked all the way through

Service was so slow. I didn't get enough food and drink.

WiFi was not working thus the entertainment system did not work! Over 5 hours with nothing.

The extra leg room seat I paid a premium for was not at all what I expected. Everytime the person in front of me reclined the seat my food fell off the tray. The person behind me kept putting her knee in my back.

I sat in 17G. I was not aware that I was behind a jump seat with no leg space or pocket to store stuff.

The plane was very old. No screens on the back of the seat and there was obvious wear and tear in both the bathroom and the seating areas.

Plane had screws missing from engine cowling. Retire that POS

Some staff were very nice. Others were whatever. Plane was 2 hours delayed. Food was absolutely horrible. Nobody likes a turkey croissant. Gross. Serve something healthy and Hawaiian. Free internet was awesome but we only got that because we were 2 hours delayed. That should be standard on all flights, free internet. Luckily we made our connection but the plane on the connecting flight was ancient and had screws missing from the engine cowling. That plane needs to be retired.

I liked all the informational texts. I always knew where to go and when .

Liked the hospitality . The ight took us 6 hrs to get from fort myers to ewr.

Oh my gosh, I loved my experience with United! they made me want to travel more often.

The flight attendants in First Class were mediocre at best. They did not take our tray away until we were about to land and only did so when I press the call button. The United person at the United Club was asked to get us our boarding pass since we missed the flight due in Chicago. She argued that we did not have seats on the flight given to us in Moline. Furthermore, she was adamant that we did not have a First Class ticket. After I spent much time with her trying to show we were correct, she reluctantly agreed. She was probably the most incompetent ticketing person I have ever met and I have traveled 3 million miles on United plus many additional miles with other carriers. United has definitely deteriorated in more than on way.

The plane was in Moline all night. Consequently, we assumed an on time departure at 8:15am. Unfortunately, and as is the normal case with United in Moline, we departed 2.5 hours late. When the crew came, it was discovered that there was very little heat in the plane. Seems this should have been checked hours before the crew arrived. Then when we boarded and the plane was to be de-iced, the United de-icing truck was not working! We awaited the American Airlines truck. All of this caused us to miss our connection in Chicago. My suggestion is never take United Airlines flight from Moline. We have been disappointed 80% of the time and have vowed to not take United again from Moline.

Flight was delayed two hours. No snacks and no tv screens. My bag got stuck in Chicago

Awful. Worst airline I have ever been on. Crew were among the rudest people I have ever dealt with. United staff members were rude and disrespectful. My flight was delayed, causing me to miss a connecting flight. I understand things happen, but when staff start lying about what actually happened, that is when I have an issue. Just be honest, really it isn’t that hard. I’m being very honest with this review and I don’t find this difficult what so ever. In fact, because of United Airlines, my Christmas holiday was off to a really rocky start. As someone who has traveled across the world, it has only been United that I have had a truly awful experience.

Received an email the night before showing that there would be seatback entertainment on our flight. We get on and there was no seatback entertainment. And then it was a scramble to try to set up the iPads for the kids before takeoff so they could watch something for the four hour flight.

The aircrew was solid, the flight was chill, I had no issues. The gate agent was not the best. I was trying to use a military bag upgrade to move my bag from under the seat to the overhead bins and he told me there’s no overhead bins on the plane, argued with me why booking put a military member in basic economy (I don’t really understand this) and made it an issue to even try to help me stating I’d have to call reservations to get a bag upgrade. When every other agent with United can add it at the gate, this man couldn’t be bothered.

Short flight - no food understandable. Flight was delayed for over an hour. Overall, it was good.

The service and food needs to improve to catch up with other international flights

Small plane, so no entertainment. Hour delay! Nobody explained wht the delay was all about.

I wasn’t happy with the hour delay from Dallas to McAllen, but that is the nature of travel. I don’t like to fly in general because of all of the problems all the time.

It went up and down at the right time and place. I’m happy with that outcome.

Staff at the gate were incredibly rude, hostile and threatening. Never fly American Airlines.

Would have been good to have a meal since it was a 5.5 hour flight

Same problems with delays in Dallas. This was weather related and due to the incoming flight being delayed. This was the flight that was delayed due to a missing flashlight which turned out not to be missing.

Most of the delay was due to weather which is not what was at issue here. One delay was due to a missing flashlight and in the end the flashlight was actually found on the plane. The entertainment system is very limited. Live TV options offer only a few channels that are not very appealing. Boarding and deplaning are always difficult. It just takes too much time to get on and off the plane. On the plus side, I missed my connecting flight, but was easily able to book a later flight from the app while enroute.

I had a horrible experience from the time I dropped off my bags until the time I landed. The staff taking the bags at the check-in counter prior to security, forced me to check my baby stroller, even though it weighed less than 20 pounds. their excuse was that the wheels were too big. I have never had an issue gate checking this exact same stroller in the past either on American or on any other airline. when I asked for the agent to show me the rule about the size of the wheels on strollers, they told me to look it up on the AA website. I did so, and did not find any indication that wheel size was a problem for gate checking strollers. The only limitation would be the weight of the stroller which mine was below. I was left with a one-year-old child and all of my carry-on luggage, diaper bag, and the like to walk around the airport without the assistance of a stroller and had the same issue when I exited the plane and had to go all the way to baggage claim without a stroller. In addition, while on the airplane, I was told I can only get one bag of cookies as a snack, even though I was with a child. Apparently my child and I were supposed to share a cookie. While this latter issue is a minor one, it is just another example of the absolutely horrible customer service that American Airlines provides. In addition, the 737 aircraft that I was on was extremely hot and the air vents above the seat were so far away from the aisle and middle seats that it was comical. I could barely reach the air vent to adjust it. I had to ask the person in the window seat to do it for me. The whole experience was just a nightmare.

We boarded after several delays due to mechanical failure and a gate change. The seat cushion in the exit row was very compressed and offered no cushion, making the four-hour journey reasonably uncomfortable. The WiFi worked for a few people, but for most, it did not, and you cannot get entertainment unless you can connect—American Airlines flights do not have seatback screens, and you must use your mobile phone.
