FAQs - booking Wales flights

  • I’m traveling from Los Angeles. Which airport should I fly out of?

The best airport is Los Angeles International Airport (LAX), because it offers the most options of nonstop flights to London Heathrow (LHR). From London, you can take a connecting flight to Belfast City Airport, which has regular nonstop flights to Wales operated by Flybe.

  • What’s the best airport in New York to book a flight to Wales?

There are no nonstop flights to Wales from New York, so it depends on where you’re having your layover and if you have interest in flying with a particular airline. If you’re looking for the least number of layovers possible, book a flight to Edinburgh or Glasgow. You can find flights to both cities from Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK).

  • I’m traveling to Anglesey. Which airports do I choose?

The Isle of Anglesey is served only by one airport, Anglesey Airport (VLY), which only has connecting flights from Cardiff that are operated by the local low-cost airline Flybe. To minimize the number of layovers and different airlines used, book a nonstop flight from the United States to Glasgow International Airport or Edinburgh Airport in Scotland. From there, you can book a flight to Cardiff, and from Cardiff to Anglesey on the same airline, Flybe.

  • I’m booking a flight to Wales with a layover in Belfast. What’s the best airport?

Two airports serve Belfast, Belfast International Airport (BFS) and George Best Belfast City Airport (BHD). Only Belfast International has nonstop flights from the United States, namely from Orlando and Las Vegas. However, domestic flights to Wales depart from the Belfast City Airport. To avoid traveling from one airport to another (and assuming you’re not staying in your layover destination), book a flight on British Airways to Belfast City, which will have a layover in London Heathrow. From Belfast City, you’ll catch a flight with Flybe to Cardiff.

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from the United States to Wales?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from the United States to Wales.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from the United States to Wales?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight from the United States to Wales is likely to change within 7 days, so travelers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from the United States to Wales?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional round-trip ticket. You could then fly from the United States to Wales with an airline and back with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from the United States to Wales?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying from the United States to Wales up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

  • What is the cheapest day to fly to Wales?

Based on KAYAK data, the cheapest day to fly to Wales is Tuesday where round-trip tickets can be as cheap as $1,029. On the other hand, the most expensive day to fly is Saturday, where round-trip prices are $1,429 on average.

  • What is the cheapest time of day to fly to Wales?

The cheapest time of day to fly to Wales is generally in the morning, when round-trip flights cost $1,126 on average. Morning departures are around 1% cheaper than evening flights, on average. The most expensive time of day to fly to Wales is generally in the evening, which is peak travel time and where the average cost of a ticket is $1,140.

Top tips for finding cheap flights to Wales

  • Enter your preferred departure airport and travel dates into the search form above to unlock the latest Wales flight deals.
  • Cardiff Airport (CWL) is the main airport in Wales, connecting the capital city to other destinations in Europe and to smaller, regional airports in the country. When searching for flights to Wales, keep in mind that you’ll have to account for at least one layover.
  • Most airlines serving the Cardiff airport are smaller, European-based, low-cost carriers. Flybe is the airline with the most connections to other cities in the United Kingdom, so when looking for flights to Wales, you can opt to have a more extended layover in cities with nonstop flights from the United States, like Glasgow or Edinburgh.
  • A flight to Wales from Glasgow takes more than an hour, so Glasgow International Airport (GLA) is the best option if you want the shortest connecting flight possible. There are seasonal and regular flights to Glasgow from Orlando, New York, and Las Vegas.
  • If you don't mind the number of layovers when searching for flights to Wales on KAYAK, then choose a nonstop flight to London Heathrow (LHR). It’s the airport with the most nonstop flights from the United States and with the most airline options. From there, you can easily find flights to Glasgow, Edinburgh, and Belfast, which all have regular flights to Cardiff.
  • As an American citizen, you don’t need a tourist visa for visiting Wales if you’re staying for less than 90 days, but you will need a passport that’s valid for at least six months after your date of entry.

Left on time, a bit delayed due to headwinds most of the trip.

I fly Delta all the time, have Platinum Medallion status. But this route seems to have major problems with delays and seems to never leave on time! Have only taken it twice in the last two weeks, and each time it had delays of more than 1 hour... very disappointed!!!!

Getting to the flight was arduous and lengthy. The flight itself was good but the food option wasn’t a good selection. I need to do a Kosher option on my return. Flight crew were nice

Good seats in Main cabin, excellent service and excellent landing

My flight was cancelled with no explanation after I had already cleared security. I was given 4 options to rebook, only one being non-stop like I had paid for. I grabbed it. It was 4 plus hours later and then took off even later. Biggest complaint is that I booked early and had an aisle seat. They gave me a "window" seat in front of the exit row, so the seat did not decline. I weigh all of 103 #s and it was tight for me! For what I paid, I feel I was kind of ripped off. I think they should have given me the empty comfort seat for the inconvenience. There was no apology nor any explanation as to why the flight was cancelled. My guess is it benefitted Delta in some way.

Very smooth, on-time, and pleasantly uneventful flight. The team at the gate and on board were professional and genuinely courteous. The pilot kept us well updated throughout, and both takeoff and landing were steady and enjoyable without any drama. Just a good, solid flight. Thank you! 💗

Staff was exceptional! Everyone was kind, professional and friendly making the trip very pleasant. Thank you!

No lunch on a x-country flight scheduled for 10:50 am departure, arrived 5+ hrs later. That requires a black box label before you pay for the tickets. Worst, when I checked in online, it's specifically said that lunch was served on his flight for economy Plus passengers.

We had a lot of really rough weather but that was not Delta's fault. Pilot was amazing.

First, Delta needs more flights to/from Miami. Second, a 1000pm leaving at 1230pm is unacceptable from their biggest airport world hub. Another aircraft could have been used such as the aircraft scheduled to be used in the morning for that exact same route. Yes, I did get me there but the lack of sleep the next day didn't help me enjoy my entire trip since I was busy with activities during the weekend. This can be and is expected from Spirit (going bankrupt) and Frontier (despite they're nickel and dimers). But from Delta's World Hub? That's totally unacceptable!

Terrible last row seats many seats available but no offer to move to better seat

At the airport, terrible, I do not want to even remember it. It was too humiliating for a business class passenger.

Flight was ok but lack of communication cost me to literally beg to be put on another flight as connecting flight had departed

They forgot to serve food and the crew was very unfriendly. Never experienced such a bad KLM flight. Usually fly from Toronto. New York was different.

Couldn’t get boarding pass in SLC even with help from a redcoat, so had to find a desk in AMS to get boarding pass. Technical problems so not sure why. Very inconvenient. The KLM app is not as user friendly as most apps. Also had to wait almost an hour on the tarmac for a fuel truck, which caused us to miss a connecting bus in LUX.

The immigration hall in Amsterdam was understaffed, so passport checking was slower than it should be for a major airport. They need to get the automatic readers up and running for non EU passport holders. Waiting in line after a long flight feels a bit abusive.

Over 1 Hr delay. No APU so no AC on ground. Plane was hot during boarding and then they closed the doors over 20 minutes before engine start so interior of plane was steamy hot and stuffy. Could have been helped by opening doors until ready to depart.

First of all we couldn’t check in online, then we learn at the airport we were on stand by for KLM’s mistake of overbooking. The seats were not comfy at all. Our luggage got lost.

Ad experience - been flying many years with them but they are losing out to other carriers with their service and bagage / seating policy. My 2 12-yo kids were not placed with the parent. Absurdity.

KLM remains a quality flag carrier airline which maintains its standards whilst all their competitors are lowering theirs.
