quoted a price online and was told 4 times that at the pick up
Cons: I was quoted a price of about $80 for the week but when we arrived they tried charging us four times that amount. I walked away and did not rent from them.

Cons: When I rented the car in the app it was supposed to be 60 some dollars which I thought it was a good deal. When I got to the Alamo car rental they bump the price to 600 plus dollars. They couldn't say why it was so much so I ended up cancelling the rental.

Cancun alamo made everything VERY easy
Pros: The Cancun terminal is very frenetic, but the representative walked us thru the chaos calmly, over to the outdoor desk to pick up our car. The walk was about 1,000 feet total. The car we reserved was indeed the car we got, no waiting, no negotiating. Each person there was efficient, detailed and exceedingly friendly!

Cons: The driver brought us to the wrong terminal for our departure and it cost us $20 to take taxi to different terminal to ensure we made our departure.

Reserved vehicle not available
Pros: I was offered a larger vehicle at the same price as the level I had reserved.
Cons: Although I was offered a larger vehicle at no extra, my preference was for a fuel efficient SUV as I had a lot of driving to due and was looking to save money on gas.

Pros: Nice staff, easy to drop off and pick up.
Cons: The price quoted was not what I ended up paying. I ended up paying almost double due to having to purchase an insurance required by Mexican law on top of the coverage I already had. Would be nice to know this ahead of time. Also selection of cars could be be updated, (manual windows and no navigation system)

Pros: Everything was great and the best part is the people! This is the best customer service I have ever experienced. So professional, caring and on point!

Watch out for insurance scam
Cons: Place will try to rip you off three times. First they will claim you have to buy mexican insurance even though if you have US car insurance you are covered in Mexico. To get around this they put a $3,200 hold on your credit card. Then they will try to sneak in a full tank of gas. Last they will try and charge your card in dollars which is a awful exchange rate, insist that they charge you in pesos.

Not clear expectations
Pros: Car didn't break down. Shuttle was convenient.
Cons: Alamo and probably other rental companies in Cancun are not upfront about rental costs. The quoted costs don't include insurance which is REQUIRED. If it is required, then it should be in the quote. Moreover, it is more expensive than all other components of the rental. The car was not in great shape which I guess is fine as long as they don't try and charge you for those damages when you return (scratches, missing hubcaps, etc.). Kind of made you wonder if they would though. The remote clicker did not function great either. I had an instance where the horn wouldn't work until the car was parked and restarted. Any guess how I found out it didn't work -- when I almost got hit by a van cutting across a roundabout and needed to use it. Not fun. Also annoying is that the Alamo location in Cancun partners with a timeshare company so they have their representative in the office pushing you to go to a timeshare when you just want your car after a tiring day of travel to get there. At first, you think they are providing nice information and directions until they try to get you into a timeshare appointment. I don't think this is good practice for Alamo to put these people in their car rental offices.

Pros: Checkout process was smooth
Cons: The car we rented was not available when we arrived, they sent us to the Tulum location (in a tiny SUV where the family hardly fit) and said a mini van would be waiting. We arrived in Tulum and noone there knew anything about our rental and no mini-van was available. Later the same evening a van showed up with 60k kilometers on it, beat up and sounded like the axle was about to fall off. When i returned the car i asked for a discount and they would only take off the price of the 3rd party insurance. Would never rent from them again.

Beware insurance rip off
Pros: Conveniently located. Car clean and size as expected.
Cons: They hook you up with ridiculously low rate ($2 per day) and they rip you off with outrageous insurance ($75 per day). Even the one they say you absolutely have to buy ($35 third party) you might not have to if you have a personal insurance. Do your homework in advance because they are after your money. Total lack of transparency. If you are prepared it is all good.

Pros: Nice car.
Cons: MAJOR hidden fees. Most expensive car rental we have ever had. Lots of taxes and mandatory insurance. Economy car.

Pros: We really needed a minivan but they seemed to be expensive when I checked online. Once we got to the counter, though, they were able to upgrade us to a minivan for a very reasonable cost. The car was fairly new and very clean, with a back-up camera. The staff at the counter and those that unloaded bags and checked over the car were all very courteous and helpful. Both getting the car and returning it were quick and easy. I've rented from a couple of other places in Cancun and service was slow and the cars weren't clean. I travel to Cancun at least once every year and decided on this trip that I will never use another rental place.

Lot of lies
Cons: I chosed a small car and I selected all the insurances and you said the price was 65 dolars. When I arrived in the office they said I had not got any insurance, and with the minimum mandatory insurance, the final price was 240 dolars.

Would use them again
Pros: We requested a mid sized sedan and received a newish Volkswagen Passat. Nice car, the shuttle to and from the airport was quick, and staff were very friendly and spoke both Spanish and English.
Cons: My listed price through Kayak was $61, but after getting mandatory insurance the car cost over $360 for 5 days. The Alamo agent told me that had I booked through Alamo.com I would have seen the real price up front and not gotten the sticker shock after arriving in Cancun. So Alamo was great, but I would not reccommend booking it through Kayak.

Cons: To put it delicately, the Alamo rental office at the Cancun airport is a racket. I arrived within two hours of my rental window after having pre-reserved a car, and the gentleman working at the counter said he did not have a car for me and refused to let me speak to anyone.

Cons: They did not have a car available - Sold out.

Cons: when we got to the cancun airport, the Alamo representative told us there were no cars available, even though we had reserved one and had the paperwork to show.....

Long wait, then a car with no gas
Pros: Car was clean, staff was friendly.
Cons: Waited for two hours (in a rather crowded area) total before I was actually driving the car. However, they gave me a car with a "quarter tank" of gas (was two bars, as soon as I drove it out of the parking lot it was only 1 bar) -- was counting on a full tank to get me to my destination, so I had to all of a sudden get money and gas. I knew about the insurance charge getting added later, so at least that wasn't a surprise to me as it was for others. As a by-product of getting a car without a full tank, I dropped the car off with much more than a quarter tank of gas -- and naturally there is no policy in place where they refund me for *that*. Just didn't know how much driving I'd be doing at all times, so predicting exactly how much gas I'd need at the end wasn't something I had signed up for.

Ridiculous extra cost of insurance !
Cons: I booked a car with Alamo for my stay in Cancun, and I got a very good quote online. Upon arrival, when I went to Alamo at the Airport to get the car, they told me that I have to pay additional 443 USD mandatory insurance for my regular size rental card for 6 days! I am not sure it's Alamo or the staff that was trying to shave our pockets! I declined and went to another car rental and got the same insurance coverage on the same car for only 52 USD!

Insurance was 10x the price of the car.
Cons: When I reserved the car on Kayak, I was told the car was $30. I didn't see an option for purchasing insurance so I figured I would buy it onsite. When I got there, I was told insurance was $50 a day! You can imagine my surprise and disappointment when I realized that renting a car would cost me $350 and not $30. I felt deceived and taken advantage of. Terrible transparency. Will not be using either service again.

Typical Mexico bait-and-switch
Cons: I have no idea why they advertise these ridiculously low rates for car rentals in Mexico. Five dollars a week!! Wow!! It's a scam. When you get there, you find out you have to add on the mandatory Mexican liability insurance. They will NOT let you waive it. For me this was an extra $25 a day. I knew this was going to happen, so I wasn't mad at them, but I want others to be aware of this. The car also had lots of scratches on it but they noted that before I took it so they didn't try to gouge me for them. Plus I don't care, it's only a vacation rental, I wasn't trying to impress chicks or clients or anything.

No Transarency on Pricing
Pros: Car was in good condition
Cons: The extra driver and mandatory insurance fees in Mexico were exorbitant and not made clear when the reservation was booked.

Cons: They charge too much for liability insurance

Cancun airport ALAMO beware
Cons: Alamo forced me to buy insurance for over 300 percent the cost of the rental. Otherwise they wanted to charge 3500 dollars to my credit card. This is BS
