Cons: I rented a car from Payless on 2 occasions in Denver airport in April. After I picked up, the 1st time, I noticed that the final charges were substantially higher than what my email confirmation had said. When I called back, I found out that the "road recovery fee" was optional. The agent had not even asked if I wanted this or not; she simply added it to my charges, which increased the total substantially. The agent over the phone rectified the error but it was a hassle having to call. Then, just a few days ago, I rented another car at Payless Denver airport, and the agent this time told me that since I have an int'l. drivers license, I had to pay $15.95 per day more to cover liability, even though I said my credit card covered all insurance. He said it was required; that he could not rent me the car unless I paid. Later, when I called back to speak to a manager at Payless, they said that is not true, and deducted those charges for me. The manager there also told me that the agents receive a commission on total sales so there is an incentive to lie to increase the total amount of the rentals. She also gave me a discount, for my trouble in having to go back in to close out that rental and do a new one, w/ correct charges. That was nice of her but both experiences have left me angry and amazed that Payless employees are routinely fraudulently misrepresenting charges to get a higher total, and more commission. I am thinking about reporting these practices to the CO Attorney General's office, consumer protection division. And I will never rent from Payless again.

Cost more then stated online
Pros: Onine it said my total charge including fees and Sur charges. Then when I got to the counter he said there is a mandatory $15 insurance charge by the state of Colorado. I told him my insurance covers that, he said no it does not and I have to pay. I think it must have been $15 a day which he did not say that because my total charge was $168. Online my total charge was $108. If there was a State law that says we need to pay for insurance that is already covered by my insurance and the credit card I'm paying with, it should be stated before we purchase the car to rent not when we get to the counter.

Not a great experience
Pros: Cheapest option around
Cons: The car they gave us (Kia) has several LARGE dents. In the future I will not being using Payless, I'd rather pay a few bucks more and get a rental that is in decent shape.

Cons: We waited at the airport curb for 20 minutes for the van to take us to the check-in office and pick-up office. We watched the other rental company vans come and go several times over before the Payless shuttle arrived. We became so frustrated that we went over to the driver of another company's shuttle to ask him if this was typical. He said that, while the other companies have 10-15 shuttles for picking up customers, Payless has 2 or 3. Then, upon arriving at the check-in office, there were 2 representatives behind the desk for checking people in, and the line had about 20 customers ahead of us. Thus, from the time we arrived curbside to get the shuttle to the time we were in our rental car, was about an hour.

Pros: Gas mileage was good
Cons: Car was dirty inside and out. Tires had a slow leak that had to be pumped up every couple of days. The transmission was about to go, glad we made it back to the agency before it did.

Pros: Great value, received a free upgrade to a bigger vehicle. Did not really want the bigger vehicle as I was thinking about fuel economy, but it was ok otherwise.
Cons: Long line on pickup. Car was dirty on pickup.

Cons: I was driving 15-16:hours when I went to use the radio it did not work. When I stopped for fuel I realized I had no antenna. Not happy so I started calling numbers and they were all closed. 2 nd thing was check in talking to an agent by phone trying to upsell me and was not good customer service. I heard 2 others complaining about Hertz service.

Cons: I absolutely hated doing some sort of video chat with the rep. I guess it's so they can use reps at multiple locations, but then why have a dozen machines and only two with people on it. Using old telephone handsets is a joke. They can't at least get a modern lighter version to try and hold while inserting credit cards etc. I also swear the insurance keeps getting more expensive every time and is more than the rental which is a joke.

LADY AT THE EXIT WAS THE WORST
Cons: I noticed damage to the vehicle on the HERTZ form. Lady at the exit gate got pissed and tore the form in half and threw it because I dared interfere with social media on her phone.

Pros: easy booking (via kayak), friendly staff and ease of pick-up at Hertz location (Denver airport)
Cons: Too damn expensive. $128 for a 4-hour one way drive is insanity. Didn't have a choice though so I guess you guys got me.

Poor service all around
Pros: nothing, set me behind by two hours and didn't even end up renting a car for them.
Cons: Absolutely the rudest service employees I've ever encountered. Also, they have a hard time processing credit cards apparently. Went to Avis and no problems and amazing customer service.

Pros: Car was as promised
Cons: Hertz double charged me for rental. I prepaid and then they charged me again at pick up. I spent hours on the phone with their customer service and they were very rude and unhelpful. When I returned it I had to sit down with manager to get it credited back.
Cons: The Denver International Airport Avis is terribly run. They lost the SUV I was supposed to rent twice since they have no formal way of tracking cars in their lot. It took about 3 hours to finally get my vehicle.

Pros: The staff was kind and the car was comfortable.
Cons: Was a considerable wait in line. All cars at DIA are ridiculously expensive to rent. We paid approx $2000 to rent an SUV for one week. I would appreciate it if Kayak and others of influence would put pressure on DIA to offer more reasonable rates.

Pros: Decent vehicle, ran nice.
Cons: There were 75 people in line to get a car when our shuttle arriver at the lot. That is absolutely rediculous! The long wait means no more Avis rentals at Denver International.

Pros: Car was clean, comfortable
Cons: Ridiculously long wait in line, even though there were plenty of employees standing around. Employee that helped me did not communicate where I needed to go to get my car which resulted in me standing outside for 20 minutes before I could find someone to ask. (Others were dealing with this same situation at the same time). I was told I had to sign the gas option and pay for it...then had to jump through hoops to get it removed. Really bad experience overall, so many headaches.

Pros: Easy pick up with preferred status. Good shuttle service
Cons: Agency didn't have economy car available, so they upgraded us to mid-size for $4/day. Car was dirty inside and out, rode very rough - it was a Sentra - so maybe that's typical for them. Pick up was quick, friendly counter help.
