Pros: After entering my destination information, Kayak redirected the rental to a pickup location more than 30 minutes from the airport. Apparently this happens constantly to customers arriving in Albuquerque, according to the rental agents at the airport location. Luckily there was an SUV available at the airport even though we had no reservation there. Kayak uses this tactic because it will show the lowest price when picking a location far away from the airport.

Pros: All staff members put a considerable amount of effort into customer service. The car was clean and in very good condition. It was nice that they had a one day rental available and that there was no drop off fee for picking up the car in the city and returning it at the airport.

Kayak bad job
Pros: Customer service at Enterprise did an outstanding job rectifying the problem. Great job Jessica Schell.
Cons: Kayak messed up the pick-up location for the car rental. Instead of at the airport, they switched it to a remote location. Very bad job.

Cons: Reservation did not make clear that this rental was NOT from the Albequerque airport. Retrieving an Enterprise car would have resulted in a $25 cab ride across town. Fortunately, we rebooked with another company.

Cons: I thought my car was going to be at the airport, but I'd mistakenly rented one elsewhere in ABQ. My bad. The clerk at the desk gave me the address, and told me it was close by and that I could take a taxi there. I asked if I could just change, and rent a car from the airport location. She said no, that they didn't have any cars. I took a taxi across town, and it cost $50. The rental place was closed when I got there - I had no idea that it closed at 6 pm. Nothing on the paperwork said that it closed at 6. The woman at the counter failed to tell me it had already closed. I had scheduled a 6 pm pick-up - why would the system let me do that if it closed at 6? I took the taxi back to the airport, so roundtrip with the tip that cost $115. On the way I called the 800 number, and they said they DID have cars there, but that it would cost an extra $100. At the airport I had a different clerk and she gave me a free refill of gas and an upgrade in a car when I let her know what happened. But I didn't enough gas for that to even matter, and I don't care about the luxury of a car. I lost time and money - irreplaceable. When I went out to get the car, I encountered the first clerk. She was totally out to lunch. She didn't remember me and didn't acknowledge that she had sent me across town to a closed Enterprise. She also failed to register the free gas credit. I noticed that she hadn't done so, and she corrected that. I was so annoyed.
Also, it snowed while I had the car, and there was no scraper in the car. I had to use my bare hands. First world problem, but I happened to have been in the first world at the time.
Caution when car rentals are not a part of airport
Pros: Budget personnel at the Albuquerque Airport get five stars for finding us a AWD SUV and getting us on our way for a reasonable up charge for airport taxes and especially under the circumstances! We cannot thank Gil enough!
Cons: We reserved a Budget SUV that turned out to be in downtown Albuquerque. By the time we were told we had to take the shuttle back to the airport to get a $40 cab ride to the other location it would have been too late in the day to rent the SUV. A caution should be noted on addresses that are not connected to the shuttle service from airports.

Deceptive booking price vs. actual price
Pros: The car was relatively clean, but smelled like cigarettes.
Cons: Final cost was more than twice the cost listed on the reservation.

Pay attention to the pickup location in ABQ
Pros: The vehicle was clean and only had 53 miles on it, so there was still new car smell on the interior.
Cons: Pay close attention to your pickup location in ABQ. My rental ended up being 19 miles away from the airport, and Budget refused to move the rental to the airport, so I had to change my reservation and it cost $60 more!
Pros: Everything was great from checking the car out for rental to delivery. No problems!

Pros: I "signed up for" Albuquerque Airport, but the actual location was a $20 uber ride into the suburbs (both ways) - probably my fault for not reading the fine print on the pick-up location and checking googlemaps, but I had searched for "Airport." At the pick-up, I was informed there were two Hertz locations even closer to the airport than the one I got. the airport loc also said they were out of cars. it's as if the different locations are competing with each other. The price was OK even with the uber, but at the return, I got slapped with the taxes (another $30), In other words: $70 and two extra hours of travel not expected.

Not a good experience
Cons: We prepaid for our rental car 2 weeks in advance. The day of the rental (June 6) I arrived at Hertz only to be told that they had no cars available and they would not have any until 2 days later. I was told I would be issued a refund and that they would call me back to let me know the time frame of refund. I received no call back. My wife and I have called 2 more times asking for a time frame on the refund and were told it was being processed and they would call us back to let us know when to expect it. Still no call back and still no refund 18 days later. Needless to say we will not be renting from Hertz ever again.
