Located in Craryville, 1805 House Bed and Breakfast is within a 15-minute drive of Claverack Library and Lake Taghkanic State Park. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Absolutely lovely place to stay. Quiet, special, relaxing! Accomodating host, amazing breakfast, great location 15 mins away from Hudson, NY. Our room had a private bathroom across the hall, that was the only minor thing we would love to change next time. Book a more private room. But otherwise it was great. We will surely be back with kids! Easy access to many historic and natural attractions. Great restaurants nearby.
Pros: Our host was very flexible on our arrival time. I also liked the availability of literature and information on the area. The host was also keen to let us know that we could help ourselves to coffee or refreshments if need be. The breakfast was very appealing and the host was willing to provide the breakfast early as our jet-lag dictated.
Cons: Some guests have mentioned the peeling paint both externally and internally. Certainly not urgent but a small investment in painting externally would make the place more appealing. As mentioned by others, the peeling paint on the ceilings in our bedroom was not attractive and could also be easily fixed. One other thing. While our host was very friendly and had some good tips, we felt that we would appreciate a bit more of our "own time" over breakfast. This is a common feature of bed & breakfasts...so I shouldn't complain but my European family found it a bit intrusive.
Pros: The facility, nestled in a natural setting, was beautifully and tastefully decorated with antique furniture. Really big bathroom with a jacuzzi tub no less. A great deal of care was taken to make the home charming and lovely. Very personal touches. Reasonable distance from Hudson. The owner was very helpful with suggestions.
Cons: Put a flat screen TV in the room rather than the antiquated small screen old TV. Hard to watch.
Pros: The 1805 House is a B & B located just out of town making it very quiet. It has an excellent host who provides great local tips and a fantastic breakfast. It also features a very comfortable bed. Highly recommended.
Pros: Tom’s welcome and many recommendations for visits, restaurants and shopping.
Pros: From the moment we arrived, Tom was extremely attentive and very accommodating.
Cons: From the moment we arrived Tom, was very attentive and a super nice host. He showed us the top floor of the B&B where would be staying which definitely exceeded our expectations (lots of space) He was a wealth of information and we would definitely go back again. Location was excellent and his recommendations really were top notch. The Bish Bash hike was very memorable and great for us city folks :-)x
Pros: Breakfasts were spectacular - gorgeous fresh fruit, beautiful frittatas, an assortment of fine yoghurts with 'seeds and nuts' to add in, a wide variety of teas and good coffee, as well as the more pedestrian cereal and toast options. The other guests who joined us were great company and only added to the enjoyment of such delicious fare with their conversation. Our host Tom was very friendly and tried to do everything possible to make our stay wonderful. We were thankful for the efficiency of the air-conditioning, and the small amenities like a never-ending supply of water and iced tea from the fridge. We really enjoyed having the two-room suite for the 3 of us (myself, husband, and sister), as whoever needed a nap could get on while the other two chatted. I got a chuckle out of the question about the area being safe: although 1805 House is by the road, there isn't really a 'neighborhood' if you are talking about human population. On our drive back from the family 'do' in the area, we encountered a couple of deer, a fox, something airborne that whacked the roofline of my car without warning, and a scared bunny or two. Although there are only 3 rooms, technically, the upstairs suite might accommodate up to EIGHT if they're family or friends, as each of the two 'queen' rooms has a futon/sofa-bed. One of the two downstairs rooms has a semi-attached parlor in between the room itself and that room's bath. Of course if all the guests were part of the same group, that wouldn't be an issue.
Cons: Not much. I'd like to warn the 'city folk' that driving SLOW on the local roads is important, as you can't see the wildlife and the deer don't always flee an approaching car. Even a small deer can do considerable damage to one's car and the cell phone service isn't completely reliable. I've been in fancier places with plusher carpeting, true. Tom hasn't completed all the upgrades upstairs(we were upstairs: the 2 downstairs rooms are done over and beautiful!) - the bath was tiny but everything worked as it needed to. Tom's hospitality is genuine: he makes you feel like an old friend he's delighted to see again.
Pros: Very comfortable and owners wonderful! Lighting in our room could have been better. It would also be good if they buy an ice maker. There were times when we'd like to have gotten it ourselves or for it to be more readily available.
Cons: Outside of the house needed painting. Was disappointed when first saw it, but the proprietor and comfort of our rooms made up for it.
Pros: The 1805 Bed and Breakfast was simply outstanding! The owner Tom, went out of his way in every way possible, from making sure he was there to greet us, to making sure the air conditioner was on in our room when we arrived on a very hot day, to having water waiting in our rooms, to making the most delicous breakfast with an enormous amount and variety of food! He also gave us great ideas on activities and restaurants in the area to try, which we did, and were happy with every suggestion! The house itself is charming as well! Every room is beautifully cared for, with detailed furnishings to make it feel incredibly comfortable and homey, even the bed was so comfortable! The house also sits on a lovely pond, where you can sit out on the back porch and watch the deer, turtles, fish and the sunrise or sunset. We cant cant say enough wonderful things about our stay except to go as soon as you can!
Located in Hillsdale, Silvanus Lodge is a 4-minute drive from Catamount Aerial Adventure Park and 6 minutes from Catamount Ski Area. The front desk is staffed during limited hours. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: The pool! Coffee in the lobby every morning! Pleasant staff!
Cons: Bathrooms are very small. Rooms are small, not much floor space to walk.
Pros: We loved having the efficiency room. It was comfortable and super warm. The staff was just as warm and inviting. Knowledgeable about the area.
Cons: I has to dust the TV and entertainment unit as well as the side table. The towels were yellow and didn’t smell clean.
Pros: The view is amazing. Very quiet place and if resting and relaxing is you goal, this is THE place. My only bad comment would be the beds... not really comfy :-(
Pros: This is not the Four Seasons; neither is the cost. It was where I needed a place to stay overnight to be. I was clean and the bed comfortable. The beautiful property is well maintained. Everything worked. Coffee was good. In short, it was a great value; everything I was looking for and needed.
Pros: Nice owner, nice spot and property, 24/7/pool. We were satisfied.
Cons: Bed, not the best. A very weird, kind of disturbing painting in our room, 7.
Pros: Very nice attendant, easy check in/out, room was very clean and well kept. Location was convenient and easy to find.
Pros: Host was super personable and helpful with recommendations. All of which we followed and all were out of the park. Room was super comfy, slept like a baby. Easy access to crystal clean pool. Huge neat green grounds.
Pros: The proprietor, Steele, waited up when we were a little late arriving and was interesting to talk during our short stay. He takes care of the place himself and it is very well kept, with funky decorative touches. It’s hard to book a one night stay during the summer season, and we felt lucky to get a cute clean room on pretty grounds just outside of Hudson. The drive from Hudson is pretty and there are a number of great places to visit there in Hillsdale, like Rodgers book barn, wonderful!
Cons: We should have stayed longer!
With a stay at Elm Tree Motel in Craryville, you'll be within a 15-minute drive of Claverack Library and Catamount Aerial Adventure Park. Free self parking is available onsite.
Cons: It says pet friendly, it’s not! Only if your dog doesn’t have hair. So angry and upset about all the trouble and how it completely ruined our weekend. This motel is a trash dump anyway, I’m sure our dogs wouldn’t have made it any worse. Do yourself a favor and don’t even bother going here. At least we were saved from getting bed bugs!
Pros: It was very clean and affordable.
Located in Hillsdale, Holiday House Motel is in a shopping district, within a 5-minute drive of Catamount Aerial Adventure Park and Catamount Ski Area. Featured amenities include express check-in, express check-out, and coffee/tea in a common area. Free self parking is available onsite.
Pros: Room was clean, well heated
Cons: The room was incredibly small, just enough room to scoot around the edge of the bed, that was it. The lamp wasn't working, kept flickering
Pros: The location was great for the itinerary I had planned. Karen was always helpful and welcoming. Bonnie the cleaner was patient with us and waited for us every morning so she could clean and refresh our room!
Pros: We stayed in a room 7, which in the building closer to Rt. 22. However it was very quiet through the night because the back wall is buried deep in the slope, almost up to the roof level.
Cons: It is a simple and old establishment, but it is clean and well maintained, so there is nothing to be too much upset about. It is a good value for the money. Wi-Fi works.
Pros: Pretty dog friendly, no bed bugs
Cons: Do you check your properties booking .com it was awful one king bed one small nite table a tv and dresser. No closet no shampoos or coffee or blow dryer. It had soap but clostrophobia.
Pros: The staff were very helpful. A group of us needed to check in late, and they were very accommodating.
Cons: The room couldn't have been more basic or less drab.
Pros: Pretty worn around the edges, tiny room and it seemed like everybody smoked right outside their doors which led to a big parking lot. This is one of the more ‘affordable’ motels in the area, the owner was terrific, super friendly but I still feel I overpaid for what little the motel offered. Sorry Holiday House
Pros: Friendly staff. No breakfast served
Cons: The room smelled - not sure what, maybe damp. I opened windows wide for two hours in pm, small dissipated, but when I returned at midnite it again smelled - and no staff available at that hour to complain. No shampoo etc supplied - nothing but soap . That, and not even a continental breakfast, for over $80? Poor value.
Pros: The property was beautiful and the staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
Pros: We stayed 1 night.
Cons: The rooms are outdated, and dirty. The pics are literally from another hotel and any positive reviews must be a fake. We stayed 1 night over Columbus day weekend. It was a group of 6 in 3 separate rooms. Each room had an awful smell, and we not cleaned properly. Top top it off, the description of how many each room sleeps is wrong. One room was a "queen suite" that sleeps 3. It was a bed and couch. When it says "sleeps 3" I assume that 3 would have their own place to sleep. Not the case with this motel. Go somewhere else. This place is a dump.
Pros: How is my score 2.5 out of 4 when I rated as low as possible?
Cons: Completely outdated room not clean with spiders. I live in the country on acreage, it is not location. Bed and mismatched furniture crammed into a room with no room. Smelled funny and people smoking outside got smoke in our room. Spider webs and spiders behind toilet, in corners at floor and ceiling. Outlets so worn plugs fall out, very few outlets. Caulking is the preferred way to fix gaps. Poor pillows, bed ok but not good. I read the reviews on this site and wish I had read Google reviews as well. No value for the money.
