Everything was great except bed was very uncomfortable
Spacious rooms and vaulted ceilings. Extremely comfortable beds and wonderful views of the city. Sloppy paint job in the room. The shower drain was clogged and the shower floor was very slick and dangerous. Easy fixes though to bring the room up to speed.
excellent staff shame about the hotel. qeues for brakefast, electrcity cutting out in the room due to faulty wiring. not a five star as far as i could see gets the rating on facilitys rather than class,
nothing It is a very old Hotel .It needs to be renovated urgently .The toilet flush is broken , noisy AC , non hot water avaliablility ( it was for a limited time but not expected from a five star Hotel ) . The staff talk without looking at your face with an unfriendly manner . The pool is again too old and need to be renewed so that the price paid to the Hotel is too much in comparison what you get .
Absolutely everything. I had always wanted to stay at the hotel and t lived up to all of my expectations The only thing I would change would have been to have a bigger bed in our room. Kingsize just wasn't big enough!!
The friendly and welcoming attitude of the staff, in particular the concierge. The have maintained the standard of the hotel since changing to a Hilton. It was well located for walking to Murrayfield for rugby.
Good reception we arrived early room ready and all very efficient similarly check out very efficient Breakfast, we were put in a cold room, toast took an age to produce , one poor machine and when we left the queue was 25 yards long to get in for breakfast
Delightful! We hope to return to Edinburgh one day, and when we do, we will stay at the Caledonian. Couldja make it stop raining?
It was in reform so the outdoor appearance was not nice. I would have liked that in the website they had mentioned it.
It was great ! The people was helpful !
Service and attention to detail Nothing to report
The room was quiet and had a lovely view of Edinburgh. The staff were very helpful and the standard of cleanliness excellent. The leisure facilities were of a high standard also. The price of breakfast seemed high even for the standard of hotel.
Great central hotel with fabulous luxury rooms and bathrooms Charges for movies/music very expensive
Excellent hotel & facilities. Modern, spacious interior. Complementary wifi, pool, + gym. Very helpful staff. Spa and breakfast are typically not included, but upgrade is possible for 90 GBP per day for 2 people. This includes access to the club lounge, the spa, unlimited drinks and snacks from 5:30-7:30pm, and breakfast in the lounge in the morning. If you wanted a greater selection for the breakfast, you could pay 5 GBP more per person for the breakfast at the One Square restaurant downstairs which includes a quite large selection of hot options and a large continental breakfast. All in all, the food and drinks were amazing. The spa was great - there is a heated hydropool and then multiple types of rooms around it: hammam, rock sauna, aromatherapy room, biosauna, etc. The location is a little further from the city center than I initially anticipated, but it wasn't a huge problem. It was about a 15-20 minute walk to the Edinburgh Castle and 20-30 if walking at a brisk pace to George St, Princes St, etc. where all the shops are. There isn't much to do around the hotel itself, particularly at night - it seems like a business neighborhood + convention center next door.
The room was excellent. The staff were vert welcoming. Although we arrived at 12pm and our checkin wasnt till 3pm they still allowed us into our room. We enjoyed everything about it.
The quality of the facilities & the standard of the presentation together with friendly staff. First class food and service in relaxed well-appointed surroundings.
peace and quiet
An amazing hotel, all staff extremely frendly and professional
Very pleasant, efficient staff. A sense of 'grandness'! Breakfast seemed a little on the expensive side.
As a guest being asked to pay extra for the basic spa facilities
friendliness and helpfulness of staff spa facilities
Our room was totally amazing and thoroughly enjoyed the view too. I found the website mislead me to believe the spa included the Infinity pool/spa, only to find out this was an extra £30 p/p on top, which I found totally disappointing!
the bed was comfortable, and easy access to city centre the bedroom was not what we expected, the decor needed maintained again in the bathroom, and the food was not to standard as we ordered and the food was served raw
Excellent facilities, faultless service. Outstanding.
Very Personal touch. Very clean. Nicely stocked kitchen. Graham is an extremely helpful person. None
Superb staff who did everything they could to help us enjoy our stay, lovely room, quiet location and only a 5 minute walk to Princes Street. Parking is a wee bit limited, but again the staff helped out and the problem disappeared. No issues at all.
Quiet, spacious, comfortable No hotwater on evening or following morning,so had to have tepid shower and bath. Only glass wall between our room and hall so could be seen going between bedroom and bathroom from outside!!! cleaner arrived 2 hours before checkout to deliver equipment to clean room, visible through glass wall.
level of amenities and comfort, also excellent staff
Luxury hotel, perfect stay.
Size of apartment, features
It was very good. Affordable and reasonable luxury, perfect location for shopping and edinburgh landmarks exploration. We hardly used public transport during our stay. Excellent staff. Would surely stay again.
The cosiness of the room was really nice yet it had all mod cons; also private access to our own walled garden! The shower was very nice indeed as was the bath. Both made all the better by the soap. On a further note, the tea and coffee making facilities were exceptional! :) and we very much approved of the fruit in the fridge.
The suite was a very good size, having breakfast served in the room was an added bonus and the jacuzzi bath an unexpected treat. Recommended.
Relaxed atmosphere in sumptuous surroundings. Not applicable
Ideal location for the city and the ambiance of the hotel. Breakfast service was very good sets the day of to a relaxing start 4th stay at the Edinburg Residence and standards are dropping. At checking in handed a key and left to find our own room in the bowels of the hotel then faced with a trek back up to reception then back down to car park to collect luggage then back again, Toilet seat falling off, wall paper loose and loose floor tiles. Not what you expect in a 5 star residence
The staff and service were superb. The in-suite facilities were great. The huge spa bath was very welcome after a long day. The view from my top floor room was amazing - and the food was absolutely first class. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to others, and I will stay here again without doubt. The hotel is quirky. It was previously time share apartments, and some of the decor in the communal areas is in need of updating.
The staff were friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble. My Classic Suite was beautiful - exceptionally comfortable, spacious and clean. The bathroom was especially good with its huge kidney-shaped bathtub! I would highly recommend the Edinburgh Residence and hope to stay there again.
out of this world- service, comfort and a real treat
warm freindly . great service. large rooms . clean .great vaule at price booked at.
It felt very private The breakfast was not brilliant and the lift was broken during our stay and unfortunately we were on the top floor
The staff was extremely accommodating, and the suite was beautiful, the bathroom huge.
Really friendly welcoming staff. Room was beautiful. Huge bedroom with huge sitting room. Very elegant. White toiletries and big high quality towels. Excellent cooked breakfast brought to the room. It was like staying in a country house. Luxury in the best sense
Great location and very friendly staff. Really like all Scottish people that we met! Hotel is in a great location to all things that are fun and interesting in Edinburgh! The rooms were very well decorated and had every thing we needed for our extended stay.
the friendliness and helpfulness of staff and the proximity of hotel to shops and bus stops I felt that the hallways on the way to the rooms were a bit shabby looking
Site, staff, facilities and room No
Price on Kayak and Priceline for this hotel on this given night was good. If hotel staff know customer has booked with a booking company other than making reservations directly with hotel, the customer care and service beginning with room selection at check-in and savings on dining and other amenities are sub-standard to that if you book directly with the hotel.
location and staff air conditioning-room was too hot at night.
Relaxing time spent with a friend. Enjoyed Indian head massage although would have preferred it without a top on rather than my arms and shoulders being massaged over my clothes! The breakfast on Saturday was cold...the sausages & bacon were undercooked!
Hotelroom Temperature in bar very cold, barkeeper not very friendly (I have no time to make tea)
The location was perfect, the staff very helpful and the rooms were good size and perfectly clean.... I would definately stay at this hotel again
Staff were very helpful. Rooms too hot but they did bring a fan on request which helped a little.
The staff was very friendly and the architecture and location perfect for those visiting Edinburgh for the first time. Loved the beautiful spiral staircase! Very nice hotel.
comfort and proximity to the highlights of the city Had stayed there on previous occasions
Huge bedroom with a great view of the church at Stockbridge. The location was excellent and I also loved the main course we had in the restaurant on the Friday night - 2 courses £14 per person - Exceptional value for money. Service could be improved. Restaurant is open to the public and hotel guests don't get priority. In the morning, I had to ask for a number of things during breakfast.
Helpful staff - nothing too much trouble. Car park.
Relaxing envirnoment in the city, staff were extremely helpful! Will stay again. Highly recommended!
The clean and stylish appearance of the decor and the pleasant staff and enjoyable breakfast room Breakfast cold table should be chilled in my opinion, especially the meats, cheese , yogurt and fruit. Room TV menu was not too great.
We were looked after very well by the staff and the hotel was central for all amenities.
Staff friendly;room decor very nice; centrally situated in a quiet area Too hot!! (Rooms & corridors) Extremely difficult to get in & out of bath
Friendly and efficient staff, very comfortable room and a first class breakfast Even with my best nit picking hat on could iI find any fault with the Bonham,a treat to stay there
A smart and comfortable hotel in a good location close to the city centre. The breakfast was first class.
Quality environment and relaxing atmosphere
The room was a good size and with lovely views of the city and the sea in the distance. The web site is over generous in its praise of design features. The bathroom was only average in all respects and the hospitality tray poor for a hotel in this price bracket.
Location and parking Room is in need of refurbishment
staff small rooms
Location, ease of walk to city centre, views from room and secure free parking Staff were not keen for us to use the nearest door on our arrival and wanted us to carry our luggage around to the front from the underground carpark, I think this was because there was a function taking place. The bedroom needed some odd jobs doing, eg shower leaked and bathroom door would not shut. They were very busy and could have used more staff at the reception desk.
The bar and location e.g. the fact they had a car park
location and pub in grounds
A few more towels in the bathroom needed (i got them when i asked)
Location. Friendly staff. Easy check-in/out. No pool.
Gorgeous room, great view of river, pampering toiletries. Everything felt like good quality.
The mattress was confortable, the room was clean... Unfortunately we listened the neighbours at 7 in the morning! Walls to slim
Friendly staff and good food Car park charges - should be inclusive of hotel costs
Location - walking distance to railway station and city centre shops, restaurants and Usher Hall. Good price point Nothing - suited us
All the staff were very friendly, welcoming and helpful right from reception through to being served for breakfast and the lady that cleaned our room
The Hotel is only 10 minutes walk from Princes Street and very close to the Airlink from the Airport. The room was clean, spacious and well equipped. The Buffet breakfast was very good and the staff coped very well with the volume of customers, due to the Rugby international at Murrayfield. The lifts were a bit slow - everything else was good.
Everything, food was lovely, breakfast excellent value, rooms clean and comfortable and friendly staff.
Clean hotel, friendly staff, comfortable bed, good food Can be a little noisy in the evenings
The staff were generally sincere and helpful. The breakfast was good. No free wifi service, a bit inconvenient for guests who want to connect with the office or to check travelling information.
location and staff services the price :-)
Close to the eicc Room was quite warm even with a table fan
Friendly staff. Good location
The Hotel room is quite good, and also the location. quite central Staff could be a little bit more professional
Good location for central edinburgh, excellent service from friendly staff The bar was full in the early evening due to Christmas parties-some service such as a reserved area could have been made available for hotel residents.
Great location, staff were helpful and friendly. Poor shower, not up to standard for the price.
We had a problem and had to leave early. Please be aware that the young lady on reception on Sunday am was excellent.
Location Room sizes very small and not suited for two people
stylish room, friendly staff, convenient location hotel very noisy at night due to nightclub downstairs
the rooms were elegant, well designed, functional and comfortable. also on the back of the hotel v quiet. the staff were very helpful. I would definitely come back to the Hudson. Pop music in the bar at breakfast time and when I said that I was leaving because of it, nobody offer to turn it down or off. I did not eat breakfast and therefore did not spend 10 pounds in the hotel.
very central for city, modern ,,comfortable beds and a mini bar the shower was fantastic
We liked our room, the bed was comfortable and the room temperature was perfect. The service at reception was excellent, with very friendly staff. the location is perfect for a city break in Edinburgh and overall was worth the money. There was a cleaning problem at the hotel which meant unfortunately a terrible stench was very evident outside the gents toilet in the reception area, which you had to pass to get to the ladies. The hotel did apologise. Also, someone else was able to charge drinks at the bar to our room. We were given the bill on departure, but the member of staff on reception was quick to accept that it had not been us and tore up the bill. They had not obtained a signature for the bar bill. We had paid for all our extras - food and drinks - in cash at the time of purchase. Hotels must get signatures for all extras to avoid this sort of problem. Despite the comfort of the bedroom, the room was a little dark.
Fantastic cooked breakfast. Nice decor in room. Great location. Nothing
Comfortable and walking distance to attractions. Helpful front desk lady. Clean room. Flatscreen tv and extra speaker in bathroom was a delightful bonus. Shower was difficult to use as there was no shower curtain and water sprayed everywhere in bathroom. Hotel restaurant was poorly staffed at breakfast.
Tigerlily was designer chic with an awesome heart. The staff were fantastic and it was delightful to have breakfast in bed for the same price as eating in the dining room. I was delighted with it all!
Real opulence and high quality Noisy nightlub at front of the hotel made for a slightly difficult sleep
Location and girlie feel about the hotel. It is lovely to stay in boutique hotels that are quirky. Lights - really hard to put on and off.
Rooms are excellent, very spacious, clean and modern with excellent facilities. Staff are very attentive, professional and well trained.
A lovely hotel beautiful rooms ideal location
The member of staff who dealt with us was extremely helpful and pleasant. We were made to feel welcome and like nothing was an effort.
It is the personal touch which make a hotel room into something a little more, and there were several things which show the level of thought which had gone into making a stay at the Rutland special and made us sure we will return again. I( can think of nothing negative to say and that is amazing !!
The quaolity and cleanliness of the room were beyound expectation. The staff, and services, including the restaurant and bar were great
the staff were really lovely and very accommodating. When I had a problem with the room (see below) they moved us into a beautiful room (room 4?) and bought me a huge bouquet of beautful long stemmed white roses our first room (room 7?) was directly above the kitchen and through the aircon/ventilation, the room filled with smoke and the smell of a fry up the second evening. when we turned this off to reduce the smoke/smell, the room got extremely cold. we changed rooms (we had no problems in the second room) and the staff were really lovely but this experience was offputting
The Rutland is a beautiful hotel, recently refurbished in May 08, the attention to detail is superb! Everything has been thought of down right down to providing little post it notes and a notebook and free bottles of water by the bed - great for the New Year hangover! The decor was amazing - whoever did the interiors is a genius! The jacuzzi bath was a nice surprise!
Beautifully decorated stylish rooms and a realy excellent range of in room treats - robe, minibar, wine, all tv channels and films free, spa bath etc
Very nice room with lots of nice touches eg fresh milk in fridge.Staff, without exception, were extremely pleasant and helpful. None
We stayed in the Junior Suite for two nights. It was very spacious, the bed was comfortable and decor new and stylish. There was a view of the castle from one of the windows. Complimentary internet was fast, and the extras were a nice touch - such as the complimentary muffins, hot chocolate, and biscuits. The restaurant was great - went the first night and was surprised that we were the only diners in the entire restaurant! Very suprising given the quality of the meal - we decided to eat there again the second night and it was another fantastic meal. After the meal you can head downstairs to the bar and have some great cocktails, very nice. Unlike other reviewers I thought breakfast was good, although not a huge choice. Highly recommended. The shower/bath combo wasn't great - would expect a separate bath in a junior suite and a nice large shower. The shower screen leaked large amounts of water onto the floor. Only minor complaints, which did not detract from the overall quality of the place, and great service from the Aussie lady at reception.
Fantastic stay, brilliant staff, great location. I would definitely book to stay in this hotel again if I was staying in Edinburgh
Funky decor, lovely room and great atmosphere in the hotel bar etc. Really easy location for Princes St, The Castle and The Grassmarket. Didn'd like the bathroom in our suite. It was disabled friendly which us great but had the atmosphere of a public toilet and ridiculously small sink.
The decor and location of the hotel is second to none. We booked a junior suite but for the wrong day! The double room was still very nice.
