It’s a grand hotel that’s showing its age. Room A/C is too noisy to use at night. Sounds travels too easily from one room to the next. Was woken up by the next room phone ringing at 5am.

From the entrance to the room, the carpets were dirty. We had to ask for water as there was no water bottles placed in the room too.

Pros (+) Amazing hotel. Service was impeccable all around, from the valet at the front door, to the reception desk, to the bellman. The building itself was beautiful and it was incredible to stay where so much history has been made.

Pros (+) Location and staff were excellent. Love the decor, nice traditional feel when every other hotel trying to be modern or contemporary.

Pros (+) Luxurious surroundings and a historic San Francisco location. Quiet rooms and very friendly staff. The Tonga Room on-site is great, the room service food was good, and the gym looked nice.
Cons (-) The pillows were incredibly uncomfortable. I had to abandon them halfway through the night and just sleep without. I also noticed a lack of the sort of amenities one might expect in a luxury hotel of this caliber—no bathrobes, WiFi was an extra charge, etc. Hard not to feel a little nickel-and-dimed which didn’t seem in keeping with the luxury atmosphere.
