An excellent value for an exceptional location right on the cable car line and near Union Square. A warning, though, that meals in the hotel restaurant are quite steep. Pros (+) Good location. Friendly concierge and staff.
Cons (-) old, musky facilities. Porcelain in bathroom looks yellowish. Rooms tiny. “Amenities fee” makes no sense. Only “amenity” is a Glass of wine in the afternoon. They should charge for that explicitly instead of through a Flat fee

Pros (+) We were able to check in early and check out late, which gave us a lot of flexibility. The staff was very professional and helpful. The location is great. The rooms are smaller than today’s hotels, but typical of older buildings—especially in San Francisco. We’ll absolutely stay there again.
Cons (-) The shower could use a revamp. The floor pan was old and chipped in a lot of places and the shower door (though new) had issues with the track and wouldn’t close completely.

Cons (-) Old hotel, tiny rooms, very noisy with protestors with very little effort made by staff to make situation better. first room didn't have working heating and had to wait an hour for a new room at 11pm.

Cons (-) Because we received a low room rate through Kayak we were told “there were no king or queen rooms available and had to accept two double beds or “an historic (tiny) room”. The bathroom in this double room was damaged, tiny & you had to hold the toilet lever down for several seconds in order for it to work. Pros (+) The Sir Francis Drake is adjacent to Union Square, Chinatown + the cable car line. You can walk to almost anything you need, and you don't need to go far. The staff is always helpful, even to late arrivals wanting a different room. The housekeepers respect "do not disturb" signs -- important when paperwork is left everywhere -- but are quick to make up a room when you're ready. AND it's across the...
Cons (-) When it's busy, the elevators take a minute to get to you. Be prepared to wait. The bar backs up, too, and that can mean getting a drink when it's crowded is an ordeal -- especially since the lobby cab get loud. But the people are nice, so in terms of this negative, it's really just a fact that's not terrible.
