I had to add air to all 4 tires as they were below recommended tire pressure and the maintenance shop was closed.

The value was great.

Cons:

The service was poor: I had to wait for awhile, then when I went to get the truck it was not the size truck is reserved. They had a size I could use but it took some time to get approval to change it. Then when trying to leave the wait at the gate took a very long time due to computer issues.

I reserved a compact vehicle because I wanted the conservative gas mileage. They ran out of compact cars so all the could give me was a huge SUV the got 15 MPG!!!! The corolla I had reserved was 42 MPG on the highway. Being I needed to drive over 1000 miles the reduced MPG cost me a lot of extra money.

Staff was friendly and the pick up and drop off was easy, but the car itself was in very poor condition. It had scratches all over the outside, the upholstery on the ceiling was dirty, and the car sounded like it needed serious maintenance. It could barely accelerate on the freeway and strained on every hill. I was convinced that it was going to break down, and we would need to call for assistance. Miraculously, it made it through the whole trip, but not without a lot of protests from the engine.

Poor reps in pickup location. The vehicle I reserved was not available and the rep of Dollar blamed you(kayak.com). I was told by rep that the vehicle you have in your website were not accurate not the vehicles they carry.

Pros:

The process, and light traffic of people at the airport, made it a breeze.

Cons:

Not getting surprised by additional charges above what was agreed would have been optimal. Poor foresight on rental companies should not translate to customer pain. Bad business.

Pros:

The manager at the chino hills location for Avis ‏was a big help. Otherwise the service was horrible and I will never use Avis again. I will use them as an example of bait and switch.

Cons:

Almost everything. Avis is horrible. Thanks to Kayak for providing a good option. I would not take the insurance again as it does not ‏cover the entire replacement cost of the vehicle. Lesson learned to take your insirance option. Slick marketing though.

Thought I was getting a Celica, got there and was told I would get a Kia Soul, not a comfortable car, so they upgraded me for more money of course to a Nissan Rogue, nicer car of course but cost more.

Supplier choice

The clerk that assisted my brother and I wasn’t very friendly. There was a long line that morning and he appeared disgruntled during our transaction. I selected the manager’s choice when I made the reservation which he mentioned at the counter. I explained I needed a small vehicle if available for local driving. He handed the contract over which specified the estimated charges, including deposit, and the vehicle model and space number. The vehicle was in good condition. There were no other problems until I returned the car where no one was available to check in the vehicle and I was told to just leave the keys and I’d be emailed a receipt. So I left. The problem was when I got the emailed receipt. I was charged a higher amount that the original contracted stated plus an additional hour. I immediately called customer service which is where it got worse. The rep stated I was charged a different rate because I left with a different car. I explained I never had a different car, I selected managers’s choice and I was given a mid-size vehicle, per the clerk. He insisted that was the reason which I politely negated. I specified the rates and total amount on my contract because he still seemed confused. I also asked why I was charged an additional hour if I dropped the car off on time. He proceeded to review everything until he concluded a mistake was made and that I’d be getting a refund for the difference. I asked for email confirmation and he said he couldn’t provide that, that I’d have to review my receipt online in 24-48 hours to see the change. The entire process felt like I was an inconvenience rather than trying to resolve the inconvenience of a mistake made on Thrifty’s behalf. I don’t trust anything was handled properly and that I’ll have to call back to correct it. My brother and I decided never to rent from Thrifty again.
