Taxes and fees quadrupled the quoted price of the rental. I thought it was going to be $150 a $200 based on the listed price including insurance and gas but it ended up costing me about $450. When I checked in, the person at the desk offered me a free upgrade because I was a veteran. When I got the final receipt, I saw that they charged me for it. I will not rent from them again.Reviewed May 30 2023

$200 in surprise fees at the last minute. Not good! Tried to turn in with full tank, but pump shot off early; so I wound up paying an extra $61 for them to finish filling.Reviewed May 18 2023

They tried to add daily insurance and I had to show my insurance declaration page to have it removed.Reviewed May 17 2023

The car given almost seemed like it was someone’s personal vehicle. The oil change sticker was from O’Reilly’s auto. Find it hard to believe Payless takes cars to retail store for an oil change. The car had 50K miles which is odd for a rental. Worse of all the windows were tinted illegally. Way to dark on front windows and hard to see out of them.Reviewed May 16 2023

My one complaint was the additional $20 fee added to the price after I arrived to pickup the car. I had pre-paid the total price through Kayak before arriving at the airport. However, when I picked up the car, I was told that there were additional local fees which 3rd party companies like Kayak don't charge and that I had to now be charged on site. These add-on fees that we don't know about until arrival are unacceptable and need to be well advertised prior to picking our rental car dealer.Reviewed May 15 2023

First rental died on us in an intersection, which was very frustrating being stranded on the side of the road for an hour. If I wasn’t traveling with my husband, I would have been livid. Or, if it happened at night I would have been livid too. The saving grace was that this was the start to our vacation and didn’t have to be somewhere at a certain time and this happened about 11am. Excellent service when the tech did arrive with a replacement vehicle! However, the replacement was an older vehicle. Would have been nice to get a complementary upgrade for the inconvenience. Outrageous fees not provided up front in initial booking. The fees were almost as much as the rental rate and should have been disclosed up front like other rental places do. Mixed review. F for not inspecting the vehicles better prior to rental. A+ for Gary, the tech, for coming to our rescue with a replacement.Reviewed May 13 2023

For the third time, they charged me more than was indicated I would pay by Kayak, $21.34 to be exact. They’re simply liars who misrepresent their price. Add on a lousy car (the front bumper cover partly fell off) and crummy service at the counter, and I will, in the future, gladly pay more to rent elsewhere. Worst company of any kind anywhere.Reviewed May 11 2023

They do a bait and switch when you are at the counter checking in. I opted out of collision insurance and they charged me. Brought this to their attention, and they did it again! Now I have some random charge for 98 dollars, no idea what it is. Lastly, the car was “well loved”, 88,000 miles, bad brakes and engine, the exterior was banged and scratched up. Buyer beware.Reviewed May 1 2023
