FAQs - booking United States flights

  • Can I find a non-stop flight from Calgary to New York City?

Both WestJet and Air Canada operate non-stop flights between Calgary (YYC) and New York City. WestJet flies non-stop to John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Air Canada flies non-stop to Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR). JFK is located in Queens, one of the five boroughs of New York City. EWR is located in Newark, New Jersey, part of the New York City greater metropolitan area.

  • Which airport should I choose when I am flying from Calgary to Los Angeles?

There is a much larger option of flights and slightly cheaper non-stop flights when you fly from Calgary (YYC) into the Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). However, WestJet offers a competitively priced non-stop flight that lands at the John Wayne International Airport (SNA), which is about 60 km south of LAX. SNA is smaller, cleaner, and much easier to navigate. Furthermore, it is much easier to rent a car from SNA, where the agency counters are located in baggage claim.

  • Should I buy a cheap airline ticket from Calgary to Dallas if it involves a self-transfer?

Some of the cheapest tickets available from Calgary (YYC) to the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) require that at a connection airport, you deplane, collect your baggage, and recheck in for the next leg of your flight. Such a ticket can be an excellent deal, as long as the layover duration allows you enough time to complete the self-transfer. For instance, a WestJet combined with Frontier flight from YYC to DFW has one stop in Phoenix (PHX) that allows plenty of time to self-transfer.

  • What are some common connection cities on a flight from Calgary to San Diego?

Most flights from Calgary (YYC) to the San Diego International Airport (SAN) have at least one connection. WestJet tends to stop in Las Vegas (LAS), Delta Air Lines in Salt Lake City (SLC) or Minneapolis (MSP), and American Airlines and British Airways in Dallas (DFW).

  • How does KAYAK find such low prices on flights from Calgary to the United States?

KAYAK is a travel search engine. That means we look across the web to find the best prices we can find for our users. With over 2 billion flight queries processed yearly, we are able to display a variety of prices and options on flights from Calgary to the United States.

  • How does KAYAK's flight Price Forecast tool help me choose the right time to buy my flight ticket from Calgary to the United States?

KAYAK’s flight Price Forecast tool uses historical data to determine whether the price for a flight to the United States from Calgary is likely to change within 7 days, so travelers know whether to wait or book now.

  • What is the Hacker Fare option on flights from Calgary to the United States?

Hacker Fares allow you to combine one-way tickets in order to save you money over a traditional round-trip ticket. You could then fly to the United States with an airline and back to Calgary with another airline.

  • What is KAYAK's "flexible dates" feature and why should I care when looking for a flight from Calgary to the United States?

Sometimes travel dates aren't set in stone. If your preferred travel dates have some wiggle room, flexible dates will show you all the options when flying to the United States from Calgary up to 3 days before/after your preferred dates. You can then pick the flights that suit you best.

Delta is one of the best airlines I have flown

Made the Atlanta to Pittsburgh trip many times, with Delta no issues

I always fly with Delta. My friends tell me their horror stories of flying with other airlines. I just smile and say, “You should fly Delta”

I'm a larger, athletic guy (6'2", 260lbs powerlifter) and I found the seats incredibly uncomfortable with minimal leg room, especially in a window seat. Now, I full understand that being smaller may change my view but even if I was 80lbs less, my legs would be the same size and I was sandwiched between my seat and the seat in front of me.

Horrible. This was not first class. This was a connecting flight whi h was late. My original flight never came. I hated the fact that delta gave me a connecting flight from New York to Orlando Florida. No meals and the television screens were not working. There wasn't even any power to charge your phones. This is NOT FIRST CLASS DELTA!!! Do better next time!

This flight was ridiculous. I had to have a connecting flight from New York to orlando Florida??? The flight left late and because it was a short flight there was no first class amenities. I had one alcohol drink. The flight crew was fine, but it sure did not feel like first class. Delta to me dropped the ball by giving me a connecting flight. By the time we got to Raleigh we would have missed the next flight. Lucky for me the flight never came so now I was stuck waiting for a later flight that came in late also.

Our flight was delayed in Atlanta. The staff could have gave us an explanation for the delay and how long it would be.

I liked the ease of checking in, luggage check in, wheel chair assistance, boarding and flight.

Flight was delayed an no one make an announcement about it., they only have Coca Cola and nothing else., the food that was served was cold… very bad experience and service

On my way home I had a layover. The flight from ATL to CLT was amended 5x while I was waiting. I could have driven home sooner. Overall from Dallas, Tx to Charlotte, NC I started my trip at 4:30pm, I didn’t get home until past midnight. I know things happen, but 5x to make me run back and forth in an airport from different terminals is excessive. I also upgraded to comfort + , I didn’t feel it was worth it. There was no benefit

I like WJ but I don’t like traveling anymore

Good flight. No I’m seat entertainment. But my phone worked just fine on the west jet app.

4 hour delay, lost our bags, staff was loud and it was an overnight flight

We were late boarding, but it all worked out. So, no problem.

It was good but not comfortable seat with the long legged persons.

No problems here. WestJet does a good job, even on their short haul flights

Boarding was fine, but then we were delayed a while due to some baggage issues, then de-icing.

Tried to reserves seats and WestJet My Trip shows not available until 24 hours before the flight. When check-in was finally available and I tried to get seats again I was not able to get to select seats for me and my wife together. All in all, was not able to select seats together on Kiwi, paid extra for seats on Westjet and still did not got seats together, not pleasant for such a long flight and with my wife not very good with flying, disappointed on the way the system works with regarding to seats reservations, even with paying extra for them.

Flight full. 'Volunteers' to check hand luggage. Checked hand luggage is lost

Not the fault of WestJet but we had to wait in the plane on the tarmac in Cancun for 1 hour.

The crew was doing their best on an old plane needing updating. Chairs that creaked and wouldn’t stay in position. My tray table was unusable as was on-board entertainment due the audio needing usb earphones (that were not provided). Prior to boarding in Toronto and despite being scheduled for a wheelchair and assistance, we were dropped off by clubcar without a wheelchair which I found myself by a gate. Due to no boarding gate assigned at that time we waited and when it was, it subsequently was moved from 64 to 95. No help could be found so I pushed my husband’s chair to that furthest gate in the airport at the highest speed possible for a 73 year old. And by that I mean I ran. It was a very stressful experience.

Wifi wasn't working on one of the UA flights after boarding.

Leg room was lacking. Legs crammed into seat in front.

T hey did a great job. Flight was on time .

the plane was old. the wifi didn’t work. the entertainment was boring and dated. the charging ports were impossible to find. i was mostly ignored by flight attendants that had no problem speaking to the man beside me. i got two drinks the entire time i was on the plane.

Crew was not very helpful. They forgot to serve me coffee and had to wait for a long time.It looked as if they were not very happy with what they were doing.

The flight I was connecting with waited for me even though my 1st flight was late. I really appreciated that.

The seat is too hard and my back and bottom are having servers pain

There was no lounge for passengers waiting before boarding the aircraft at F65, so passengers are just sitting on the floor or just spread everywhere the premises before boarding.

Great crew, friendly. Found the trip long just sitting with no onboard entertainment

Both flights yesterday, experienced hard landings. Harder than I’ve ever felt before. Im hopeful there was weather involved and not pilot error. Other than the landing, the flight was quite good~

The plane was old and in new of a cleaning up and renovating on the interior. Seats and carpets were very worn and dirty looking. Cushioning on the seats was broken down and not as comfortable as newer jet seats. Food was a little below average but okay. Staff were friendly and hard working but did not pick up debris or food they spilled when collecting from the customers. But they were very helpful and professional.

A disaster, I lost my connection due to overcrowding at the Miami airport, having a 3-hour layover and the airline did nothing to reboard me on time and I had to sleep on the floor for 18 hours.

The food has never improved. It will never improve. But when I'm boarding a flight in priority boarding and I've spent 10 hours inside the security area of the airport and I get "randomly" selected for additional screening as I board the plane when the flight has already been delayed, and I work as a military contractor that has been issued visas direct from JMOD, I find it ridiculous. I would never recommend anyone to use AA on international flights. JAL is a better airline with older planes. The flight attendants on international hauls on American also have a chip on their shoulder and really dont deliver the same level of service code share partners do.

The flight was 90 minutes long and the stewardesses were extremely slow. I was in row 16 and they did not serve us drinks until we were descending for landing in a 90 minute flight. Unacceptably slow and at least 10 rows (20 to 31) did not receive any drinks or snacks for the entire duration of the flight because of the slowness of the stewardesses. There is no rationale to delay beverage service to brew coffee for a flight at six p m.

This flight is frequently delayed. The connections seemingly are more frequently delayed. I’ve missed connections as a result twice on the same route to charlotte then Charleston. Final destination arrival has been the next day, twice in a row. No pilots, no crew. Too many excuses. Unfortunately, my days with American are over.

Entertainment was okay not because anything was wrong but it is a short flight so having no wifi is annoying but understandable. Crew was outstanding as usual

Those seats were way too narrow. I had the middle seat, one person was a very skinny person and we still couldn’t avoid touching each other anytime one of us moved. The other person was larger and we were basically sitting in each others lap the entire flight. There was zero entertainment. The flight was long enough to justify tvs, but no. Gotta sit there in your infant seat and twiddle your thumbs.

The Flight attendant had an attitude and didn't allow anyone any time to prepare for landing despite being absent throughout the entire trip

Flight boarded without pilots. Sat on plane for 3 hrs. after over an hour late boarding. Plane never took off. Had to deplane near midnight. Line for rebooking was 3 hours + long. I had to leave.

I think Air Canada is the only airline I've flown where they don't give you at least a free cookie.

All but one of four were on time. One was delayed for an hour

Got the email to check in but when I tried to check in it said "cannot connect to server", so checked in at the desk.

It took 5 hour to get a crew to D Ice the plan. We had to sit on the runway for 5 hrs. in Calgary. It snows most of the winter. No proactive plan. In addition, after 3 calls to customer service they couldn't figure out how to have my wife and myself sit together on her birthday weekend. Everybody kept passing the buck. No decision from customer service, luggage drop off or check in team. The experience was a complete mess! I don't think we'll ever fly on this airline again.

my flight from Toronto to Chicago was horrible. we tried to land 3 times, couldn't. they went to Milwaukee & sat on the plane/runway for another 1.5 hours. then they flew us back to Toronto. we had to stay overnight. the communication was bad. just told us to wait for an email update. no credit, no voucher for my additional night in a hotel. nothing. I will not fly air Canada again.

The wifi I paid for did not work. The seats are tight.

The seats werr comfortable Would like a better snack that a tiny bag of pretzels

There were no free snacks…little pretzel bag or cookies like we had on our flight out.

Mostly crew good and the flight was safe and comfortable but service was lacking. For an overnight flight of 8hrs 50 it took some two hours to get served a drink and dinner after take off. I asked for Laurent Perrier champagne and was brought Perrier water, which I queried and asked where was the champagne. No response. The issue came up again an hour later when dinner was starting to be served and I was asked whether I wanted another drink, when I reminded I was still waiting for my first champagne! Apologies ensued but dinner service was quite slow. For breakfast I never did get served the hot course! So - no complaints and compliments on the safety of the flight but service underwhelming (and I brought them candies!)

No food provided and the tickets are expensive. At least provide a snack, it is a 4.5 hr flights for 600 dollars. Snack would be welcomed.
