Flights from Fort Lauderdale to North America: the best tips from KAYAK users

Insights shared by verified travelers who flew the route from Fort Lauderdale to North America

MCI in Kansas City, MO, is easy to navigate, and staff is friendly and ready to assist, if needed. I suggest that people arrive early and watch for updates. Having the app made it easy to keep up with gate changes.
LeoFlew with Spirit AirlinesFLL-MSYApr 2025
Get to the airport a bit earlier to have a snack or meal prior to boarding. It’s a short flight, about 1.5 hours, so each airport has plenty of choices.
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska AirlinesFLL-SEAApr 2025
I like Alaska. If you need a screen attached in front of your seat, better to check your flights first.
JillFlew with American AirlinesFLL-PHLDec 2024
Virgin Atlantic and Virgin America have always wowed me with their boarding experience. The flights from/to Fort Lauderdale to Philadelphia are very limited. Would prefer a few more options to choose from.
DanielFlew with American AirlinesFLL-DFWDec 2024
I'll always be a JetBlue fan but American comes pretty close. They are economy based but will never be as bad as the Spirit.
ChrisFlew with United AirlinesFLL-DENDec 2024
If you’re going to fly a similar flight, do Southwest. Better WiFi, seat comfort, and over all experience.
Verified travelerFlew with Air CanadaFLL-YULJan 2025
Fly Air Canada. On time, comfortable and reasonably priced.
DerrickFlew with JetBlueFLL-EWRJan 2025
No lounges in terminal 3 so you may see people lying on the floor
SebastianFlew with Spirit AirlinesFLL-INDOct 2024
Spirit flies from terminal 4 at FLL which doesn’t seem to be the nicest. Pretty limited dining options, no lounge as far as I’m aware. Otherwise the basic fare on Spirit was by far the most competitive and worth it after all. Flu Southwest many times on this route, it is a little bit more comfortable, however the airfares have gone insane on Southwest lately.
MichelleFlew with DeltaFLL-DTWOct 2024
American Airlines seems to have the least drama and best customer service. Things happen - it’s good to be able to talk to a live person to get help. Fort Lauderdale doesn’t seem like a bad airport. It’s easier to navigate than Miami.
Verified travelerFlew with Spirit AirlinesFLL-ROCSep 2024
Expect delays. Bring your own snacks. Check out other airlines first
AshleeFlew with Flair AirlinesFLL-YULNov 2024
Lack of signage for the airline was one of the issues. Poor customer service. Some guests were poorly checked in by staff and we're charged at the gate right before boarding. I've never seen that before. The worst airline experience for sure!
Verified travelerFlew with Spirit AirlinesFLL-ORDOct 2024
Please leave on time. Arrive on time and don’t make people wait almost an hour to off board.

he strategy of advertising cheaper base ticket prices, but then finding ways to charge additional fees for other items, while also providing lower quality services and less respect to passengers, is likely not a sustainable long-term business strategy.

Southwest, Delta, United, any airline is better than the dumpster fire airline called spirit.
RobFlew with Spirit AirlinesFLL-PITMay 2024
If Fort Lauderdale to Pittsburgh is your connecting flight coming from the Bahamas, you better have at least five hours in between flights to have a chance to make your connecting flight.
HollyFlew with SouthwestFLL-ATLMar 2024
Pay the extra for early checkin. It’s worth it if you’re flying with someone.

I prefer Air Canada as they are more on the ball and do not nickel and dime you on luggage and other basic items. I'd rather pay reasonable price than deal with no frills airlines.
MarkFlew with American AirlinesFLL-DFWJan 2024
Get TSA Pre-Check or Global Entry which includes TSA Pre-Check. In Terminal 3, there really isn't any place to set up a laptop outside one of the restaurants.

If you are in groups D -F, gate check your carry on. There will be no space.

This had nothing to do with Delta… The flights were on time and flawless. The service was excellent. We purchased seats in (aisle/middle) comfort plus since this was a cross country flight. Unfortunately, the woman seated at the window was 300+ pounds and, as might be expected, covered up about a third of the middle seat also. there was absolutely nothing that Delta could have done about that… I just don’t know what the answer should be. If you purchase a seat, you should should be able to use the entire seat and not just the portion that someone else is not sitting/oozing in. Disappointing…there should be something that could be done….I'm just not sure what solution could be.

The worst part was I was NOT allowed in the lounge even though I was holding a first class ticket and have a premium American Express card. I have flown Business or First Class with many airlines. Delta is the ONLY one who does not extend this courtesy to anyone except people who hold the very expensive American Express card. As a result, I won’t fly Delta if I have any other choice.

The Dekta Rep that checked us in was great. She's very personable, pleasant, and can tell she enjoys her job.

Friendly flight attendants, smooth 8-9 hours flight. Economy seats are small and uncomfortable as usual.

The young man who was our flight attendant in first class was lazy and did not do his job well at all. Never offered drinks upon boarding - actually I take that back... said "are you okay with water" as if I do not want to get you anything else, only passed the snacks around once, got my drink order wrong and then never offered a second round of drinks. He was the worst I have ever seen on Delta and we fly a lot.

Flight left early and arrived early. the whole trip was excellent.

Newer plane, relatively easy boarding, not a full flight and was told that we could not be moved up because of weight and balance issues. Otherwise, a very good experience.

Everything was great. Great service, excellent communication, and early arrival

I sat in comfort plus. It was fine. Seats were comfortable. I got drinks and snacks.

Good and consistent Printer in lounge did not work for me :(

Everything is good except the dinner and breakfast. The sandwich is very delicious. Toilet is clean, I only use one of them. Flight attendants are very nice. 👍👍

A bit rush for transit. Food and entertainment are not available

Boarding was a little difficult. The gate area at O'Hare was very small and crowded due to multiple gates in the area. Could not hear the intercom, so had to rely on signage to see when my group was boarding and the signage was blocked by passengers standing in the gate. Flight was great and we arrived in Montreal on time.

Multiple delays and not straight answer from the United team

For economy, it was very good. Staff was great, they even let some of us change seats for more leg room... Put an empty seat between us which was fantastic for a 12hr flight. Onboard entertainment was excellent, I think over 200 choices of movies/tv/etc The bad was the barely/nonfunctional wifi that cost either $16.99 or 1700 miles (full flight). It was atrocious... Definitely the worst of the last 3 long haul major airlines I was on the last few months.

Stewardess spilled orange juice on my clothes/seat no help no apology just threw napkins at me to clean the mess up. Not Happy.

Smooth flight. Boarding was chaotic. Could not hear the gate agent over the intercom. People were lined up in the wrong lines. Groups one and two were told to board through line one and group 3 through line 2. All very confusing. Once in the air, the flight was smooth. There was no entertainment option on this aircraft, even though it was a larger aircraft.

The plane pushed back from the gate on time. However, it stopped on the ramp, and we waited for over 20 minutes before the aircraft pulled back to the gate. Apparently, something of importance had to be removed from the aircraft by the gate agent. I found this to be odd. The delay was not significant, but I felt that whatever was on the aircraft that had to be taken off, should’ve been done before we pushed back from the gate.

I didn’t get on plane. Passport being processed by consulate with visa application. Tried to cancel through underpricer after purchasing cacelling for any reason. No dice, they are thieves.

Food and flight attendents with positive dispositions and friendly behavior, more professional attitudes

Cancelled flight with no specific instructions to get a boarding pass for another flight. The whole flight of people were in line for an hour because there was only 1 person to help at the desk. This was unusual for JetBlue.

Except for the 28 minute delay leaving and the earlier reschedule to a later takeoff time the flight was good.

Loved the leg room and tvs screens on the seats and free WiFi. Wish the price was lower and could save by rebooking

The flight was delayed for 4 hours. Once onboard the crew was wonderful.

Very well organized both boarding and deplaning. Very satisfied with the service I received.

I rate it is good we had a 4-hour travel delay at one point but JetBlue gave out food vouchers and travel points credits for another flight so they try to make up for it

Flight was on time arrived at the destination 10min early they kept in touch via email

My encounter with the entertainment services provided on board was moderate; the functionality of the Wi-Fi connection was either sluggish or nonoperational, while the display screens were antiquated and suffered from poor visibility. On the positive side, the cabin exuded a sense of expansiveness, and the crew exhibited amiable and accommodating behavior throughout the journey.

They delayed our flight by 45 minutes and then re-updated the departure time back to normal schedule with no notification, email, or app update causing probably 40 people to miss the flight as they left without us.

terrible. Because I felt very unwell during the flight. How do they leave a woman alone in the middle of 2 men? an obese man who was falling on top of me.

The flight to Tokyo AA61 took off about two hours late, but then had to turn back. By that time the crew had to be replaced. Then they kept promising to take off in an hour, then in 3, then switch to the next day.

Uncomfortable seats and flight attendant was rude as she insisted on waking up my husband to ask him if he wanted a drink. When he said that he was sleeping, she replied “without an attitude “. He was seated at 8c

No food/snack served during the flight. Crew wasn’t interested at all. Flew American First but flying low cost with Ryanair is even better

Crew professional. Easy bag drop off. On time. Good entertainment.

Nice modern plane. Can use your own device for entertainment. Get a snack on the plane.

Flight was late and missed connecting flight. They could have better accommodated, but instead did an overnight and had to arrive the next afternoon.

The boarding crew was incredibly helpful getting me on an earlier flight

They have lost any customer service care and support. Terrible airline now and been for awhile.

The flight was delayed leaving Miami. When we arrived in Charlotte, we were unable to park at our scheduled gate. We had to wait another 30-45 minutes before we could park at a different gate. All in all, we were delayed by almost two hours arriving in Charlotte.

the pilot that landed this flight in Philadelphia did an amazing job, the weather was absolutely terrible and we landed safely.

I love Spirit. New aircraft, great cabin service, the airfares are low cost which helps me visit my hospitalized daughter anytime I can without paying a fortune.

Be quiet! Why do they have to keep talking BS over the microphone?? Enough!

I slept the whole trip but everything else was great

Friendly staff put me at ease with processes, since this was my first time. I would recommend flying on Spirit!

The flight took an extra 30 min to take off because we were waiting for crew to board then it took another 30 min to get off the plane because there was no parking. Just overall ridiculous also please add a head rest my neck was gonna snap off thanks.

Waiting for crew member so delayed at gate which delayed arrival time. Problem for driver service but other wise safe flight

Good, the flight was on time, without delays and convenient schedule for me, I arrived to Bogotá in a day time.

Great! First time flying with Spirit and I definitely loved it!

Absolutely Terrible. It was delay after delay after delay. I should have been arriving in Philadelphia at 12:05am from Fort Lauderdale instead I didn’t depart from Fort Lauderdale until 12:33am with no rhyme or reason as to why the flight was delayed. The only compensation we received were 12 dollar meal vouchers which by that time we were already boarding the plane and most of the place in the airport were closed so none of the vouchers got used because we were told that we could not use them on the plane .

The people were wonderful, but I hated the way they over charged for luggage, especially for stops which were charged the same as starting point to final destination.
