Flights from North America to Florida: the best tips from KAYAK users

Insights shared by verified travelers who flew the route from North America to Florida

I found Trenton airport is a dream and very easy to get to . Parking for long term is very reasonable. I enjoy traveling with Frontier very accommodating airlines.
Verified travelerFlew with United Airlines-Jul 2026
Take a morning flight. Less chance of delay
Verified travelerFlew with Delta-Jun 2026
Take photos of luggage (if you care about it) prior to boarding. Also, report issues at destination airport and not after leaving. Unfortunately i let my fiance handle gathering our luggage and didnt take note of the damage until we were back at home the morning following our return.
NatashaFlew with JetBlue-Jul 2026
Don't lol Unless you are going to the basketball hall of fame, fly into Boston or NY then take a train to CT.
JeffreyFlew with JetBlue-Jul 2026
jet blue terminal is far from car rental center. southwest, delta are way more convenient
MaryFlew with WestJet-Jun 2026
Bring food if you don’t want to buy on the plane
RobynFlew with Allegiant Air-Apr 2026
Get the Allegiant credit card and Tsa clearance. Easy breezy!
StephanieFlew with American Airlines-Mar 2026
Charlotte concourses are under construction in some areas. Leave plenty of time for connections. We had 1.25 hrs. to arrive on one concourse and walk to another concourse for departure; this was NOT too much. Allegedly, walk should have taken 15 minutes, but moving walkways were not working, and corridors were very crowded with travelers. Gate areas are too small for people waiting to board, so they spill out into the concourse corridors, impeding traffic. Allow extra time for moving more slowly, using restrooms, getting food, etc.
DFlew with Spirit Airlines-Mar 2026
Make sure if you are bringing one personnel bag that you don’t have a pocket book/purse as well. Purse should be placed I your personnel bag if you have one
EmanuelFlew with Spirit Airlines-Apr 2026
Be aware that E gates aren't always on terminal 4. That was very confusing. And sometimes they send you to F and G gates to go to an E gate.

Bring a seat cushion if you're flying Spirit.
Verified travelerFlew with American Airlines-May 2026
If you are transiting through Doha and you have a long layover make sure you book the flight through Qatar airways and not using a code share that's a book through American airlines because they will deny you a STPC which is a stopover paid by carrier aka the free hotel. We ended up sleeping on the floor of the airport which kind of sucked but it wasn't the end of the world. Next time I will not make this mistake and I will never book with American airlines again.
MarkFlew with Delta-Mar 2026
If you're not in 1st class, you'll want a seat cushion. We were in comfort extra and both had sore tailbones. Seats very uncomfortable after a couple of hours.
Verified travelerFlew with Japan Airlines-May 2026
Bring warm clothes. I had a jacket and pants and still froze.
BrianFlew with Air Canada-Feb 2026
If you fly into MIA and need to go north (e.g., Ft. Lauderdale), there's a commuter train that's even cheaper than Brightline. I-95 traffic is brutal (except late evening/overnight). Suggest people look into this rather than sitting in I-95 traffic.
KathleenFlew with American Airlines-Jan 2026
LaGuardia is the most convenient/fastest from Midtown Manhattan. If taking a taxi, check the map ahead of time to spot traffic delays — taxi drivers aren’t going to do that and you can direct them to alternate routes to avoid a traffic jam.
Verified travelerFlew with Spirit Airlines-Jan 2026
Always. Get there 2 hours before you fly and everything will go smooth. You won't be Russian. You can just take your time if you have any questions, you can get them answered at Agent. desk.
Verified travelerFlew with United Airlines-Feb 2026
We flew United Airlines and boarding went smoothly if not a little slow but we left on time. Arrive early at the airport as it gets very busy and crowded especially on the weekends.
Verified travelerFlew with Spirit Airlines-Dec 2025
Atlanta airport is big so I was advised to give myself slightly more time to get through as you need to use an air train to get to the gate
ColleenFlew with United Airlines-Jan 2026
Make sure to get to the airport with plenty of time to go through security. The line was long but moved pretty fast
ChrisFlew with Spirit Airlines-Feb 2026
Flying spirit is great. Key is flying out of Laguardia. It has its own terminal you get through quite fast.
DanielFlew with JetBlue-Jan 2026
Don’t forget to fill your water bottle, as the AC can be very drying on the plane.
ShannonFlew with Spirit Airlines-Jan 2026
If you are going for cheapest option with a positive experience, go with Spirit. If you are looking for comfort in regard to your seat, leg room, snacks/drinks included… you need to pay the extra money and go with a different airline like Delta or United. Spirit you can pay and upgrade for all these things. I don’t know cost wise though if Spirit would still be cheaper if you do that.
CourtneyFlew with American Airlines-Feb 2026
Miami is a big airport with a lot of international flights, so give yourself enough time to get through TSA. Expect last minute gate change that is possibly 20 or more gates away from the initial gate provided.
Verified travelerFlew with United Airlines-Dec 2025
Advance seat selection. Lots of kids on the flight and it’s hard to find seats together as a family
JimFlew with Avelo Airlines-Dec 2025
They wouldn’t check luggage before 2 hrs prior to boarding. Keep the in mind for scheduling
Verified travelerFlew with Spirit Airlines-Jan 2026
Spirit Airlines counter at Key West is not busy/ long and security line is moderate.
SylvainFlew with Air Canada-Jan 2026
Check your texto or messages for any changes for your flight
JamesFlew with Alaska Airlines-Jan 2026
Travel with a carry on only because on my flight I observed a family of (7, 5 kids and both parents) load up the overhead luggage compartments with (7) carry on suitcases, in addition to (4) back packs, which was allowed by the airline and I'm certain paid zero extra dollars as I did for three large suitcases at $35 a piece. Sane your money and do the same thing that family did.
Verified travelerFlew with Spirit Airlines-Feb 2026
Do not pay for a seat when booking the flight if they show no free seats, because they make you buy one and then send you messages to select a seat and there are plenty of free seats
ErnestoFlew with Spirit Airlines-Feb 2026
Don't book row 3 as people from the first 2 rows "first class" usually take up whatever space they need in the overhead compartment and you are forced to stow your carry on many rows back.
DavidFlew with Delta-Nov 2025
Get a flight that arrives FLL by or before 9:00 pm US Eastern, so that shops and restaurants are still open and available.
Verified travelerFlew with Delta-Nov 2025
Airlines with best boarding, comfort, baggage policies: American, United & Delta. Airlines with best schedule to/from Miami: American & Delta (but definitely can improve this). Most convenient airports: Getting on/off -Miami and any major US Airport with multiple lanes to go in and out (definitely not Atlanta as everyone is arriving & leaving go thru ONLY one entrance filled with parking lot style traffic) and I say this because I have lived in both cities (many years in Miami and now 2 years in Atlanta but travel a lot from here). Atlanta has only 2 entrances: either Delta (south side) or any other airline (north side). Either way you go, you will have bumper to bumper traffic just to go in. Also, don't get me started with their parking lots - what a horrendous experience to park and worse when you leave! No signs in the North side (and barely any in South side) to indicate the exit.
KimberlyFlew with Delta-Jul 2025
Ask for headphones to watch screen movies as all of mine are bluetooth and that will not work. Bring own food and wait until plane moves before hooking up to Deltawifi.
MikeFlew with American Airlines-Jul 2025
If you are connecting through Dallas from International flight expect a long transfer to go through security a second time.

Verified travelerFlew with Air Canada-Mar 2025
Quebec Orlando is highly convenient. Both airports have great connections, public transportation. Plus great signalization.

Atlanta is a buay airport, plan to arrive early!
Verified travelerFlew with Spirit Airlines-Jan 2025
We love flying Newark to Fort Lauderdale, and the time slots of Spirit Airlines are perfect for us. We certainly hope that Spirit doesn't stop flying under Chapter 11, but that is certainly a risk we need to consider if we are buying tickets months in advance. Also, it only really pays to fly Spirit if you are flying light - check for allowable size and weight of "personal items" that are exempt from add-on fees.
RoyceFlew with Spirit Airlines-Jan 2025
Don't get there earlier than two hours, otherwise you'll be waiting to check your bags in Louisville. It's just a tiny airport.
Verified travelerFlew with Spirit Airlines-Jan 2025
You don't need to be there that early, an hour earlier than the departure for a local airport is fine.

TangelaFlew with Spirit Airlines-Oct 2024
Be ready for the unexpected expectations at the gate if they can’t confirm your id bc you will be required to go to the check in desk. This is specifically for online purchases where you will initially skip the check in desk. Most times, you can go back to the priority line upon return.

Also, don't be even a minute late checking in, they will deny you checking in or boarding and you will have to buy another flight.

Charlotte is not a convenient airport. Overcrowded and when arriving to pick up your luggage at belts (connecting to Tampa), they have screens informing you where to pick up your luggage, but screens had NO information at all. You had to ask for it to staff.

Fly directly into Miami if that is your final destination. Ground transportation between FLL and MIA is expensive ($50) and time consuming (1+ hour). One would think there would at least be hourly public transit between the two airports, but no such luck in the late afternoon. Choices are $50 bus ride or $50 ride share, or $50 bright line, or $50+ rental car. No afternoon Tri-Rail service. I chose the ride share since it got me directly to my downtown Miami hotel.
IreneFlew with Alaska Airlines-Dec 2023
•Check in bag tags are only printed 4 hrs before flight takeoff, so if you’re stuck at the airport earlier you will need to keep your luggage with you till then. •Unless you’re able to sleep on a plane, consider bringing an iPad to stream entertainment, because there is no screen on the plane.

overall the crew onboarding and providing service during our flight was great; they were friendly and helpful. I said ok to the entertainment because there was none, but the crew explained why which was very helpful. I am a diabetic and the type of snacks are not diabetic friendly (full of carbs and sugar). However, I am always prepared because I know the catering is for the larger population.

overall the crew onboarding and providing service during our flight was great; they were friendly and helpful. However, I am always prepared because I know the catering is for the larger population.

We were skipped when the snack cart passed and then the attendant said we weren’t . I am disabled and was in a row toward the back of the plane which was very difficult for me to navigate. Disabled people should not be forced to walk the plank.

Flight was delayed and then "they did not have time to load food". No snack or drink at all for 1.5 how flight. Somebody wasn't prepared.

It is usually very pleasant. Good service for the price, international flights are even better

New high end luggage ruined/zippers broken, items missing. All happened on return flight from msp to mso. Do better! Not store bought luggage but high end personalized ogio custom embroidered luggage. Total slap in the face ontop of an extra luggage fee that took me 3 hrs on chat to resolve.

Third flight in two months where the crew was not there. Comfort seating does not guarantee overhead bin space. Passengers with children are allowed on the plane first - if you are flying to and from Orlando, this means half the plane has boarded before you get on. And somehow all the bin space is taken up. 3 out of 5 flights have had issues with equipment or procedure. Some of these instances caused the flight to be delayed because of a "nuisance" light. One time it was a bag that had been brought on board but did not belong to anyone so we had to return to the gate. Last night we were told the "AC" on the plane doesn't work well and we're 10th for take off- because the crew was late - and that it will get cool when we're in the air. Not sure if this is usual, but I didn't think flight crew could jump seat in first class. Movie and TV selection has not been refreshed for several months- flying one to two round trips each month easily exhausts the list of content.

Definitely a southern flavor. Cordiality was evident even though no drinks or snacks were served.

No service flight that took 5 hrs and a stop at an unscheduled airport. Crew and pilots did their jobs

I continue to be satisfied with Delta’s excellent service out of LGA. The digit id works well and gets me through security in no time. Whenever possible, I choose Delta.

Was revoked with Jet Blue due to delay from Kenya Air

The experience with United Airlines was excellent; however, the experience with Houston Intercontinental Airport (IAH) was horrible. Although our flight departed from Terminal B, we had to go through security in Terminal C and then get on a train for travel to Terminal B. Additionally, there was significant walking required to get to the boarding location.

Flight was delayed 5 hours. Updates kept changing. Sears were extremely cramped. Very little leg room. Flight attendant was rushing through with drinks and hit me in the knee either the cart and didn’t apologize. They gave a 15 dollar voucher in airport which doesn’t buy. Much and it was so late that choices were limited.

Always pretty good as far as I see it. Staff was friendly and process was quick to get on and off.

The flight was delayed because they closed several flight ways because of air shows, fire works, etc.

Lost one piece of luggage even though I checked in 2.5 hours before the flight

Horrifying Almost 2 million miles. Bring your own food and drink. One coffee or drink every three hours. Have to order meals on app more than 24 hours ahead Tiny and dirty bathrooms

Left an hour and a half after the listed time. Up side was it had TV screens on the seat.

I've been flying American mostly, and it's been very frustrating. This united flight makes me realize maybe the issue isn't flying, but the airline. United was a significantly better experience. The plane was more comfortable, with a normal amount of leg room (vs the ridiculous reductions AA has made), more comfortable seats, screens to watch movies. It was a much better experience!

They delayed the flight from 9:00 to 11:55 At 11:45 they canceled the flight. I paid a premium price for the tickets with poor service

Both our flights were delayed. Almost didn’t get in the second flight. Staff was rude to the bone.

Paid for wifi but it didn't work once. Seats were incredibly cramped and passengers sitting in front was reclined the entire time and staff did nothing

Absolutely infuriating. I was flying standby to get home earlier after flying 4 times with American in 6 days. I was #2 on the list with seats near the front and middle, in addition to the 4 first class upgrade seats that came back into the pool. I am a Platinum member, have their card, and they put me in the 2nd to last row in the middle. No loyalty whatsoever and they lost a fan for life. There is reason people have negative comments about American and I am done supporting them.

Did not know that they didn’t have screens for entertainment. I didn’t have headphones so I couldn’t watch anything on my phone.

Gate 461 the worst in LAX Boarding lacks professionalism And as usual, your food sucks.

Bad experience going to DFW with an IT outage then bad on the way back with a nearly 5 hour delay that’s started as maintenance then caused us to wait further due to weather - which would not have happened if we had left on time.

I was stuck in Miami for 24 hours! I waited in a line for 3 hours just for a hotel still at the airport. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had.

Quick flight. No time to stress over it. Over before it begins.

Very good, boarded and took off on time and landed early

Delayed boarding because a flight attendant couldn't find the gate...sat on the plane for over an hour at the gate because AA couldn't get one of the planes behind us to move

Boarding was atrocious. Completely unorganized bedlam. Could not understand the person announcing. The PA system sounded like Charlie Brown's parents.

You did a great job rescheduling my cancelled flight. However, you made me pay for two seats for $118 even though the seats on the original flight were free. I think that was a very unfair thing to do.

The flight was on time the crew was courteous that makes for a good flight.

I liked the entertainment on JetBlue, the service from JFK to JAX was terrible at best

I usually dont fly JeTBlue and I dont think I will ever do it again. The flight was delayed fee time, nobody was giving us any info at at the airport, gate changing, the slowest and poorly organized boarding ever, rude staff.. huh

Like the variety of entertainment options. One crew member was a little on the rough/rude side. Boarding was a mess, attendants didn't do a great job of helping with the luggage storage and it delayed us a couple of minutes.

Boarding was great, communication from the crew was excellent. My only complaint is the seating seems to have gotten smaller, and felt a bit tight. I can’t imagine doing a long haul flight in those seats.

Thanks to the staff assisting with wheelchairs. The gentleman who helped me with the layover after arriving late did an outstanding job! He cared about it, and I appreciate it very much!! He deserves a raise!!!!

Flight is delayed by more than an hour without any reason, the jet blue gates kept changing every 20 mins and there is no proper communication. No ear phones provided in flight, there is a screen with entertainment but what is the use, I have earphones but the console has outdated audio connections, no usb C or bluetooth, they are living 15 years behind

Flight was cancelled, no support at JFK even though it is their main hub.. wait times on the phone was very long

I liked the punctuality, the crew, and overall the whole flight

Our flight was delayed 2 hours and when they changed the the time to 1 hour I wasn't alerted and when I checked the gate the plane was still there but they already shut the doors so I had to buy another flight.

The flight was great . But you only had one vegan item on the whole flight and someone prior to me took it . I was so disappointed cause I came in from the flooded area and couldn’t pick up anything prior to my flight .

Plane was hot and miserable and the crew was rude!

My flight was originally from SAT to MCO connecting from MCO to ORD. We got diverted to ATL and than Frontier staff there was sooo un helpful first they said they couldn’t give us any accommodation since our flight first got delayed that cancelled and now it’s 221am and I am still in ATL since they said they need to create a new flight my final destination is ORD and I have been delayed twice and cancelled. With no real help the frontier app didn’t work no email updates over all such a horrible experience

Flight was canceled. Most upsetting was message from Kayak, stating that the flight was canceled and click with Kayak for details regarding rebook, refund details. THERE'S NO INFORMATION PROVIDED BY KAYAK EXCEPT THAT FLIGHT IS CANCELED. AND NOW THIS SURVEY TO FIND OUT HOW WAS THE FLIGHT !!!!!!!

I am writing to express my disappointment with my recent Frontier Airlines flight. I was charged $99 at the gate because my bag was said to be too large, yet once onboard there was no available overhead bin space, and I was required to place the bag under the seat in front of me anyway. This made the charge feel unnecessary and unfair. Additionally, before the flight even took off, I was asked to move from the seat I paid for into a middle seat so another passenger and her cat could have my seat to themselves. I was not offered compensation or an explanation for being moved from a paid seat. Between the unexpected bag fee and being forced to give up my seat, this experience fell well below acceptable customer service standards. I would appreciate a review of this situation and appropriate compensation.

One of the worst travel experiences I've had. Had a flight scheduled with CVG to RSW on VLSWQX this morning departing at 5:30. Two individuals at the gate and one was in training. Not her fault but she didn't have the ability to check people in resulting in at least 15 families that didn't make it on the plane because they weren't checked into the system in time. When arriving at the airport to drop off our prepaid checked bags, the bag drop off agent asked if we could check our bags at the gate because of the long line. We said no problem so arrived at the gate by 5:00. They told those people that had previously paid for checked bags to stand off to the side while they let others that either didn't have a checked bag or their bag was already on the plan through. Realizing the gate workers had an issue, they either called for help or this lady showed up late for work as she didn't arrive until 5:15. The worker who had been there training the other individual and working diligently to make sure all passengers got on board. He even said that at one point all people that are currently in line are fine but asked the person in training to stand outside the ticketing area around 5:15 to notify any late travels that the flight was in boarding process and they arrrived too late. At that point, we're sill standing off to the side with our pre-paid checked bags patiently waiting. When the new lady arrived she couldn't have been more rude. It was an awful seen. Essentially they had asked for those without an assigned seat to board last, those with pre-paid checked bag stand off to the site and any traveling with a larger items that needed to be checked at the gate (such as a stroller), wait on the side. They realized that the flight needed to leave on time so the gate attendant shut the gate. So anyone without a seat assignment, those that had pre-checked bags, and the worst one I saw was a mother with two infant children was in line with use because she was asked to stand to the side because her stroller. When they shut the door to the plan they told her she could no longer get on. Her checked bags were already on the plane with her car keys in them, and the lady told her we couldn't accept anyone else on because the door was shut. She didn't even have a way to get home from the airport. Truely evil behavior. I've flown Frontier enough to know customer service is not a top priority in the company's mission, but this was an all-time low. I'm sending this after an 18 hour drive that our family just completed to Bonita Springs . I felt really bad for the lady being trained and the other individual trying to help, but when the new lady came to the gate she was truly one of the rudest individuals I've ever met. One lady had been there since 4am but because she didn't have an assigned seat they wouldn't let her on the plan.

Better than expected. Staff were friendly and nice on both flights.

Terrible. Flight cancelled with no reasoning and no flights to rebook. Employees were useless and did nothing to help. Did not even know where to retrieve luggage from the cancelled flight. Flyers beware.

No fault of Frontier staff: plane was very late, reached Orlando at 1 am, took a while to get luggage. Weather, gov financial shutdown impact on TSA, air controllers seemed to have multiple flights backed up. Frontier staff seemed to cope as gracefully as possible. It did reassure me that I and my new hip could adapt to travel challenges. Food/entertainment were irrelevant to my trip.
