I flew Spirit years ago and didn’t like the spartan nature. With this flight, I shall enthusiastically fly them again. I chose to fly back home with Alaska only because I needed a later flight than Spirit offered. And I’m Very Excited to try out a Big Seat!

From Portland specifically- fly Alaska. It’s just easier. Other airlines are fine, but when I’m going to and from Portland, I almost exclusively fly Alaska.

Take care of any work ahead of time and bring a book to read
KarenFlew with DeltaEUG-SEAJul 2024
Delta was great even in the face of the great IT outage of July 19th 2024. I only had one minor delay in my five-flight (total, with two flights on 7/15) trip. The gate agents and crew were friendly and helpful and indomitable in the face of a difficult situation. The planes were clean. The snacks were good, and they offered complimentary earbuds for watching content on the seat-back screens. The selection of movies, TV, and games was good. My slightly large carry-on roller bag fit fine on all flights but my last when it was checked at the gate for free (small commuter jet with small overhead compartments). 10/10 will fly again!
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska AirlinesPDX-SLCJul 2024
Alaska, Southwest and Delta are my go-to's. Stay away from independent airlines that can cancel flights without much warning. Also, order tickets at least 2 months out for whichever airline you choose, and avoid third party agents, because they lack the protection you need if flights run into problems.
Verified travelerFlew with FrontierPDX-DFWAug 2024
Alaska was great for flying nonstop. Crew was friendly and they made sure there were plenty of snacks and drinks throughout the flight. The Portland airport was not overly crowded and had several food options. They also had someone playing the piano in the airport which was lovely.
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska AirlinesPDX-AUSAug 2024
Portland had a seamless experience the airport is beautiful and clear. Austin is the same I enjoy the art on display. Each port is fabulous to enter and easy to find my way around.
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska AirlinesPDX-BURJun 2024
PDX can be slow getting through TSA but the car rental return is super easy. Still might need to add a little more time than you usually would.
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska AirlinesMFR-LAXJul 2024
Medford is a small airport, so it’s easy to get in and out. Checking bags with Alaska can get pricy, so plan accordingly.
carolFlew with Alaska AirlinesPDX-KOAAug 2024
Great schedule, from Portland you can easily be poolside sipping a mai tai by noon. Alaska had great legroom in coach too!!
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska AirlinesPDX-BURJun 2024
Alaska was so smooth...actually left on time and got in early! Room for all bags and everything ran like clockwork.

Definitely arrive the 2 hours before your flight or you will have no extra time before boarding. Wear comfortable walking shoes.

Salt Lake City was great for transfers. Better than Chicago.
MatthewFlew with American AirlinesPDX-CLTJul 2024
Nothing special, just make sure to arrive at the gate approximately 45 minutes before boarding, there was some confusion with the number system.

Verified travelerFlew with Alaska AirlinesPDX-ORDJun 2024
Alaska Airlines was the best with baggage policies, seat assignments, boarding, cleanliness, communication, and overall satisfaction. Spirit is inexpensive but is extremely uncomfortable and very strict on baggage policies and has a lot of additional costs. The check in through spirit was troublesome and complicated. The lady wasn’t very welcoming in help either!
Verified travelerFlew with Alaska AirlinesPDX-SFOJun 2024
Don’t fly Frontier. They refuse customer assistance and scam people on checking bags.
LisaFlew with Alaska AirlinesEUG-SANMay 2024
Be sure your carry on fits in the bins before getting on- big rollers are difficult to get into small Horizon Air bins

Very very pleasant. Very smooth. I was happy to get to my destination on time.

Other than that stewardess, the flight was very good.
BobFlew with Alaska AirlinesPDX-BURApr 2024
We usually fly on Southwest, which allows entering and exiting the plane in both the front and the rear of the plane. I was hoping for the same options on Alaska Airlines, but discovered that they do not use that approach at Burbank. I don''t know whether this is specific to Alaska Air, or maybe specific to the fact that it is in a different terminal at Burbank than Southwest uses. Had I known ahead of time that they did not allow deplaning from the rear exit, I would not have chosen seats in the rear of the plane.
LisaFlew with Air CanadaPDX-YVRMar 2024
It is a small plane so think small thoughts as you squeeze in.

Eat a big meal before you get on the plane.

We had only one hour transit to the next international flight and with any reason getting out line went so slow. We had to rush to the next gate. The scheduler should not make this short transition trip.

The people who find your lost bags will call you, so always label your bags! They also have separate offices. Their service is great too. Just make sure to set up transportation from San Jose when landing if you have somewhere to be. The Uber drivers and Lyft drivers are extremely bad at speaking English, and will often not even take customers who try to engage them, even if you schedule or give them cash. There are shuttles for around the Bay Area, but they can be a pain if you do not have 25$ in cash. I was a little late to San Jose. Alaska lost a free checked bag. I left it on the plane, and then I managed to leave it at the airport after barely catching a shuttle. Well, I caught a ride with two people and a Uber driver. I was going to split fares, right? Well, the Uber driver and I had so much in common and she felt so sorry for me, because I did NOT make it to SFO in time....that she offered to have me stay with her husband and her. I did not want to invade her space at all, so I had her drop me off at SFO. She didn't charge me! Nicest woman I ever met. I ended up staying overnight like she warned in SFO, because the airport doesn't have restaurants or anything that stay open overnight. I was hungry and planning to get something. I didn't get a chance to, because another airline, United, isn't as organized and doesn't care as much. They just told me I missed a flight and the next one I'd have to see if I get onto unless I bought a standby ticket. Which I did. And they told me the Gate changed 4 different times, and made me stay in line for no reason. I just sat in one place for a few hours. One good thing about San Jose is that they do have restaurants, places to sit adjacent to the restaurants, and the different gates, in a very clear layout. There are also clearly posted hours. PDX is very fancy but not very clearly marked in some ways. SFO is an open layout and the gates are clear but there are also points you can't get past. In PDX, you can also rent a car. Both places have large complexes for cars.
ronieFlew with Alaska AirlinesPDX-BZNFeb 2024
Keep carry on items to a minimum due to overcrowding overhead bins. Opt for gate checked bags or complimentary checked luggage because Alaska airlines baggage claim retrieval time is so fast
SFlew with American AirlinesPDX-DFWJan 2024
Always allow at least 90 minutes for connections in Dallas. Flights seem to be late often and it’s a big airport to navigate.

Most of the time the flight from PDX to Miami is better and the service meets or exceeds expectations. Not on this trip! American failed with this crew.

Go first class or choose another airline. At least I will.
