Top Location, Friendly Staff Rooms, even booked early and got a cheap price, do not match at all a 5 star hotel. The room rate compensated a bit for it, but definitely disappointed by a hotel which has such a famous name.
Very relaxed friendly atmosphere
We have stayed at this hotel twice now and it is in an excellent central location. The hotel reception is beautiful and the rooms are also in keeping with this. Our recent room was very clean, comfortable big bed and with all the amenities that you would expect. Prior to this we have stayed in one of the suites which are excellent but of course pricey. The general rooms are a good price - not the cheapest but you do get what you pay for. We didnt book the breakfast as this made the room price too expensive.
NH is the ground zero for Amsterdam
Check in/ out not very efficient
Location Scruffy corridors and dark bedrooms
Nothing exceptional springs to mind Badly stocked mini bar. No 24 hour restaurant/coffee shop
The location was the best thing. The rooms were small, inefficient handling of processes and nothing that made me feel it to be a "grand 5* hotel". They should take a lesson from Germans in Efficiency... or another grand hotel in their neighborhood.
המלון עובר שיפוץ בלובי שלא ידענו בעת ההזמנה, אני חושב שזה פרט חשוב לדעת בעת ההזמנה, זה לא היה קריטי אבל רלוונטי. 25-5-2015
Calmness Had to pay EUR 100 for 4 days of broadband connection. Should be free inside the hotel.
The location Furnishing of the rooms
Other than the location, this place really was just so-so. Most Marriott Courtyards are cleaner, more comfortable, and have much better service. For the price, however, it wasn't a bad deal and proximity to both Amsterdam Centraal and many tourist attractions made up for the lack of aesthetic appeal and customer service. Breakfast was not included and would be an addition $30/person. At that price, it should include a packed bong and tickets to the Van Gogh museum. Rooms were terribly outdated and not in a quaint Dutch way, but in an oddly 80's post-apocalyptic manner that made me question why I wasn't staying at a hostel. Our shower didn't even have a door or a curtain. 5 stars!? Are you kidding me? Europe must max out on a 10 star scale.
Best Staff ever very friendly and welcoming
I spent two nights at the NH Barbizon and I only have positive things to say. It was a group of 5 friends and we couldnt be happier with our stay. The hotel in itself is beautifully decorated. The location is excellent across from Amsterdam Central and all the trolleys, but the best part of the hotel was the staff. Daniel helped my friends and I not only with our luggage, but with advice on getting around the city, recommendations for restaurants, and sightseeing. Overall great experience, and upon my return to Amsterdam I will definitely stay here and hope to get assistance from Daniel!
The location is great, opposite Centraal Railway station and you avoid the added cost and hassle of catching a cab to your hotel. Most tourist spots are within walking distance. Staff was great, they let us check in early and check out late which helped us a great deal. Some of the advertised facilities were not available during our stay but it did not really matter to us.
the overall experiance
Great location near train station and city. Good views from the hotel. Room was large and bath was too! Room was dated.
Nothing The picture they show of the room is not even close to what I had to stay in. My room was old, smelled horrible, most of the lights did not work, and the shower head was broke. This has to be one of the worst experiences I have ever had in a hotel..
Location was great. The room was clean and comfortable. The noise from the street was absurdly loud at all times of the night. The hotel provides earplugs by your bedside.
The hotel staff were very friendly and responsive. We were upgraded to a nice room. The breakfast was fantastic, probably the best we had had in a long time. The location is perfect for any visitor and Amsterdam is one of the most picturesque cities in the world. Also to note, people in Amsterdam (including all the hotel staff) were extremely friendly and ready to help. Loved it!
location, nice hotel
Excellent all round! Will definitely stay here on future trips to Amsterdam. No iron or bathrobes!
Good colours, style of reception and breakfastroon was pleasant, fireplace at receiption were really nice. No fitness room at the hotel. Wholefloor carpet is not same style than other things. Corridors ugly.
The location and the quality, cleaness of the hotel
The attitude and helpfulness of staff was very good. Cleanliness and presentation was good The location suited us very well The breakfast room was too much of a crush and could have been laid out better. The afternoon coffee and evening bar facilities were given low priority.
Location Being overcharged/ They cached my deposit and failed to return it! (50 Euros)
Excellent location, 3 minute walk from Amsterdam Centraal
WiFi did not work in my room (signal too weak) but worked well in lobby
Hotel staffs were professional and polite. Free Wifi is a bonus! It will be nice if breakfast is included.
Lovely comfortable room, nice decor, loved the dimming lamps. We had to queue to check in, and after our long journey to get there, we were tired and wanted to go up to our room as quick as possible.
The staff are excellent I do Think Ther price is high
Great staff knowledgeable about area and willing to answer questions and provide direction. Rooms are clean.
The best things in the hotel are the free minibar, the location and the helpful concierge employee mr.Roel Smits. Overall my staying in the hotel did not meet my expectation (I expected more for what I paid).

The Staff, The atmosphere, the cleanliness, and the service...
Beautiful hotel, great architecture, friendly staff, facilities in room (like nespresso machine, free minibar and great bed), right in the city centre, reasonable prices for food and drinks. Just a small thing: the hotel is a bit of a maze, takes a bit to figure out how to get from your room to the reception, but the staff told me that new signs will be there soon
it was an amazing hotel ,the room was superb , the hotel is located neer by the sentral station i liked everything
Good comfortable rooms Hotel still being refurbished, so some things not yet finished in hotel and the room. i.e. no toilet door and shower leaked badly as door seal seemed to be missing. However, the room was comfortable and the bed was simply delightful.
everything it waas a very nice stay more light in the room. That's my only remark. Please do something about this because it's too dark in the room!!!
good area and historical building
Beautiful hotel, very new, nice comfort inside, especially the coffee in the room The glass bathroom door is spectecular, but somewhat unusual for me.
Art Nouveau hotel;you need to like it to enjoy the hotel, which is beautifull than ; large rooms, well equiped (surprising free of charge minibar, including alcool),nice restaurant and buffet breakfast(a little bit expensive) ,beautifull spa with swimingpool.Close to the railwaystation,at the border of the old centrum. Reception not "5 stars" due to small office, waiting time if some other people arriving simulteanously , and to few personnel at the concierge office !
Good location, big and clean rooms, nice staff, value for money
I liked the location and the style of the room. We wanted to make some tea as it was quite cold in Amsterdam but there was no tea pot. We asked the service and it appeared the tea pot would cost us additional 6 euros. I think tea pot should not cost anything in the hotel of such level.
The location is perfect, walking distance from the train. We also walked both days from the hotel through the neighborhoods to the museum district and back. The breakfast and cocktail receptions were an added benefit.
We thoroughly enjoyed our time in Amsterdam and couldn't have asked for a better hotel. Very comfortable, immaculate, great location, incredibly friendly and professional staff. Would definitely recommend this hotel for pleasure or business trip. nothing
Very central location, clean, friendly, well-furnished.
nothing Had booking confirmation in-hand. Manager asked a ton of questions, asked me to email her the confirmation, wasted a half hour till she finally told me the reservation cannot be honored because their reservation system was already closed, meaning they overbooked and refused my reservation after I already showed up at the hotel. They wasted my time. They were rude. They tried to blame me even though all i did was book online. They provided no assistance in getting a different room in the city. Awful experience. BE CAREFULL ON BUSY NIGHTS, THEY OVERBOOK.
Great central location. Nice, business-class hotel with good facilities and service. Ask for room facing courtyard, which is quieter than street side. Kayak price of $170/nt incl (very good) breakfast was great deal for this property.
Paid extra for lounge Lounge didn't have food available all the time Lounge should open at 5 am We were with my handicap father and the hotel lobby is handicap accessible but it would be a real problem if he had to leave quickly.
Good location, helpful staff, nice bar.
Excellent location, which is why I would still recommmend it. Not particularly good value for money. There were rennovations taking place making the room a bit noisy duraing the day. 30 Euro pp breakfasts are too expensive and should have been included in the rate
Great location. great food, friendly staff. pricey
Very good location; in the centre, but in a calm street. I liked the canal view from my room. Very good shuttle service to the airport. I needed someone to explain me how to switch on the central switch in order to have all electric appliances (including the lights) to work. It should be either connected to the opening of the door or made more clear. There was something strange with the pipes of the tap in the bathroom.
Superb location, friendly and attentive staff, clean and comfortable. A very good value.
Very comfortable I did not get a wakeup call on one day, even though I requested one. Date: July 28,2007
Gorgeous interior in the heart of the old city. Breakfast was incredible and sumptuous. Staff are warm, friendly, and attentive. Location is fantastic. 1. Heating was a major problem. 2. Parking is a nightmare. 3. Shower hot water not as hot as it should be. 4. Complimentary coffee in the lobby area is absent, though one can pay EUR 2-2.50 for a cup. Should be gratis. Once this is attended to, this will be able to achieve deserved greatness.
The location is very good. Located in the heart of Amsterdam, there are many adventures to find that are just a short walk away.
Location is very good. In the heart of the city. Few minutes walk from the dam square. Breakfast is very good and not too expensive. Air condition is not working in the room. Business rooms are in another building across the street. Rooms are small and not too comfortable. Parking costs 55 euros per day The room is expensive comparing to any other such an hotel in Europe. I was expecting much more...
the sauna The price of the breakfast was a bit too much, the rooms were already expencive enough to include breakfast.
The business suite was very nice: great bedding, spacious. The staff were helpful. The lobby had electrical and usb outlets. My room was in a construction zone accessible only by stairs!! And construction resumed right outside in the morning. They shouldn't put people there, or should start construction later in the day. I also found it a little odd that there would be no usb jack in a business suite.
Great Location, nice facilities in the rood, good staff, very nice in general The waitress in the reastarant was once high :) Breakfast is too expensive.
People at frontera desk were really helpful, nice bar área rooms are modern and comfortable
situation géographique et le hall This is the list of the main bad points :
Friendly staff, clean, modern. Location very good for tourists (close to Centraal Station, center of city) A bit pricey, but really no faults.
The close proximity to the train station and central Amsterdam Poorly designed rooms with ikea type furniture and cheesy gimmicks
Very modern, with a very bed and setting and very nice bathroom. Excellent value for the money. The location is a bit out of the center.
Great staff, new modern and clean
Room, staff, view No room-service, still Not every think ready
I moly took off one star because they weren't very understanding of my accidental booking. Because of the change in time coming from the US, I booked for an extra day without realizing we actually get to amsterdam the next day!! They said because I booked through a third party they couldn't do anything but they could have given something complimentary to offset it. Of course it was my fault but still. The hotel was clean and they were very accommodating on the other hand, they help with booking events for you and give you a crib for a baby if you ask. They also have toothpaste if you forget yours and have European charging adapters to loan Not understanding
Everything: decor, the room, the staff, services not much in the immediate area but everything else is on 5 min away
Hotel's position, room's comfort Room's view on the station end the noise of train during all day and night
The free cookie, the Apple Mac in the room, the proximity to the station Courtyard rooms have no view, the restaurants and bars are expensive, all a bit impersonal and large scale
Great view overlooking the Singel Canal Friendly atmosphere Brilliant location
Cosy, friendly staff. No problems no free wifi
Everything was excellent. Beautiful old world charm, large spacious room, staff was outstanding in every way with help on questions, places to eat and see and making reservations. No
The rooms were very nice and clean. The breakfast was excellent. The staff was very kind. My brother lives in Paris and is recommending the Hotel Estherea to any of his friends/associates who are planning to visit Amsterdam. The bar wasn't open until the evening. I would have liked to have a cocktail after I checked in...but there were plenty of places around there to have one - so it was not a big deal.
The beautiful classic design interiors. The room as well.
Loved the hotel and the staff were incredible. Will always stay there in the future. Room are small but beautiful. Rooms facing the canal had very little storage space.
Location, interior design, breakfast, coffee/cakes, most staff Poor window, let in a lot of street noise, with what we paid for 2 nights (c.€380) they could buy a double glazed window (about 4 ft by 3 ft) which would be a big benefit for future users of the room. While most staff were friendly, the receptionist we mostly dealt with was businesslike/efficient rather than friendly. (my wife might use different words!)
Location, Lounge, Coffee and goodies at reception Beds hard
Well situated hotel with friendly and helpful staff. Reasonably comfortable bedroom, although small. Nice clean and well appointed bathroom. Hotel bedroom was rather small and paintwork on windows peeling.
Good location. Not very modern. Adds 10 years to your life. People 50+ loves it I guess...
excellent location, staff, breakfast, great rooms no
I like the location, the services and the cleanliness of my room. The room was reely small.
i found it very nice andthe staff were very helpful also the breakfast was lovely
The check-in staff (those specific two) they were great fun and welcoming and the cat. The hot (cold!!!) water in the morning and the explanations received at reception (i.e. a once off incident) not true. Every morning same issue all week-end. The lift- you can age 20 years waiting for it.
friendly staff & excellent buffet breakfast no room service
breakfast and location no air conditioning also step to bathroom
The staff was very cooperative The room was very small
Location and late breakfast No tea/cofee facilities in room
location, staff customer service I had to go home early!
Location!!! Great breakfast with a selection of delicious food!. THe staff was also very helpful. The beds are little to narrow and too soft for me. The water in the shower never became hot, just warm.
While walking in the streets on a cold, windy, snowy, rainy day, the thought of going back to the hotel was pure happyness, as the hotel is so warm and cozy, It starts at the reception, continues in the corridors. Even the pool is warmer than all the pools in other hotels, I used it in the morning before breakfast and before going to bed at night. The extensive opening hours of the pool are a big advantage. The breakfast is the best I travel a lot, stay in nice hotels, none of them compares to this one...best juices, best fresh fruit, best bacon and eggs, best waffles. I loved the hotel tour, especially the wedding chapel and the other room with all the wood sculptures. I also liked the library with the fireplace. Everybody was extremely f I would have preferred a smaller and softer pillow
Hotel staff was more then nice and helpful For a "Junior suit" (as booked and paid), the room was too small
Great location, helpfull staff, nice interior, cleanliness, convinient bed, complimentary water and sweets every everning, channel and garden view, etc. - everything! To escape any delay connected with checking out the next morning, I was proposed to settle the formalities in the last everning.
Hotel helps for every question asked and answers all in the perfect way. No dislikes.
The service was great, if I can afford to, Ill stay there again.
Cleanliness, wonderful architecture and interior design, polite and proficient and friendly staff Nothing. It was perfect
Absolutely first class service. Could not do enough for you. Extremely comfortable bed! -
Beautiful and comfortable hotel , Great helpful staff everything was great
disturbance during stay in room
The excellent staff and our gorgeous apartment to which we were upgraded Would not include breakfast again; though lovely and convenient it was very pricey given the area. Otherwise a perfect stay!
I hated to leave. Staff and facilities were outstanding. Room was beautiful and luxurious.
location they gave us a room with a shared balcony on the first floor which ment that who ever could have free access in our room through the balcony. we explaned the problem and asked them to assign us an another room with no balcony and what they gave us was a room next to the old one: sure there was no balcony but a window, always looking onto the same balcony, common to other clients. i work in the hotel business too and i have never seen such a dusty and unclean hotel room in my life. our stay was short and this is why i didn't want to waiste my time looking for an another place to stay otherwise i would have done it. this hotel needs a completely renovation and is no worth of its four star.
The location was good for access to all of the city's attractions. The roadworks immediately outside the hotel and bedroom were intrusive, extremely annoying and unattractive. The only compensation offered by the staff was a pair of free ear plugs and a free drink at another hotel! The furnishings in the room were old, tired and shabby. the bed was stained and in places the room was unclean. The shower was poor. Their was no bar, and the reception looked less than 4 star. This is not a 4 star hotel, and I will be writing to the dutch authorities to question this rating. As such the details are misleading.
Great staff and good location.
The location was excellent, surely in view of the visit to an exhibition tot the Hermitage Museum, but also in view of the lively neighborhood. No complaints
Excellent sympathetic staff, flexibility on requests and prompt aid on any question. Close to center (well located) and nice view. Old style equipments (furniture and heating), beds too soft (easily twist back) and twin beds on double rooms.
The location is excellent. The construction work in front of hotel.
reception helpful. The room smells old and the furniture as well. Despite the canal view the single is really small.
the location and decor of the hotel The staff was clueless and did not know anything about the city. They were all students. All of the old staff was gone. The hotel charged $30 a day for internet service. This is a change from their past policy it used to be about $10 a day. Still high but tolerable. Their breakfast was very expensive and the quality was poor. I travel to Amsterdam once a year and always stay at the Doelen. Due to recent changes by management I will not stay there again.
the hotel staff, and the hotel is close to important places
The hotel has a trendy, designy look and staff seemed friendly enough. There's a neat garden in the back and a they have a cozy lounge with descent drinks. I had high hopes for this property upon arrival, but overall was let down. I had the hotel dry clean three silk items, all of which were ruined. It took me over a week to get them to resolve it and in the end, they only paid out 75% of the replacement cost. We were put in a disabled accessible room located right by the elevator (despite not requesting an accessible room). It was loud, the accessible shower allowed water to get all over the bathroom floor. The vanity outlet in the bathroom wouldn't work and it took them coming out two times to fix it, leaving me unable to do my hair both mornings we were there. Upon arrival, the woman who greeted us (and was apparently training) said that welcome drinks were complimentary for guests. When the man training her joined her to do our check-in in the lounge, he asked if we were in town for anything special. I mentioned it was for my husband's birthday weekend and he offered to "cover our drinks." This seemed odd given the woman had just told us they were complimentary. Not sure if he was being underhanded or if the woman training was just mistaken. The whole thing struck me as odd.
amazing interior with best in class everything
It was near everything in the city no
The location of this hotel is excellent, easy walking distance from train station, restaurants, Red Light District, coffeeshops, regular shops, bars and fast-food places. If you're going further a field then trams are just round the corner. Nothing
very nice hotel near Central station may the best confortable you can find in this aera
Extremely friendly and accomodating staff; free minibar was well stocked; club lounge was also well stocked and had responsive (if not intuitive) staff. Our room had a great view. Nothing
proximity to red light district tv channels available (not enough in english)
Very nice room, good bed.
Excellent location to have as your base for your Amsterdam adventure! Everything superb
The friendliness of the staff and the promptness to respond to requests. The room was alwas very clean. This hotel is in an excellent location. I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again
Fantastic position and quality of facilities Nothing
close proximity to tourist destinations. Hotel was within walking distance of major tourist attractions.
The location is perfect and the American Bar is the ideal place to hang out for a few hours in the evening. I would like to see more variety on the food menu in the bar.
we enjoyed the service & stlye of the staff, the room was out of this world with the most comfortable bed & fantastic views from the balcony, the location was ideal for what we wanted & would recommend the hotel to anyone.
Pretty good overall. Very nice cafe-restaurant in the same building. Outrageous internet fee and even worse service when you wnat to use hotel computers
Centraly located, tram stop, restaurants and shops straight outside the door
Great location - couldn't be better!
Recent upgrade of room made it very dark.(colour and curtains) Central heating made noise for most of night.
It is comfortably situated near public transport services and the city centre. Its value for money was less than poor. It boasted an incredibly expensive breakfast, admittedly including sparkling wine, which for my purpose of stay, however, was totally redundant. With the no more than fair comfort offered, the price ought to have included a humble breakfast as well as complimentary Internet access for hotel guests.
hotel staffs are very helpful, the room is great, clean and comfortable. we booked double room, it's big! the location is great, easy to go to station or airport, we can catch the bus just in front of the hotel. nothing
The service was amazing! Roland was the best concierge ever. He really made our trip fabulous! Everyone was so friendly Nithing
Attentive and courteous staff - lovely room with views over city - would definitely stay there again.
Location The breakfast that is supposed to be included is just teas and coffees. You have to pay extra for a cooked breakfast even if your room rate says breakfast is included. The radio in the room started playing on its own early in the morning for no reason, extremely loudly. When we called down for a porter to switch it off, it took him 10-minutes to stop it playing. This woke us up and we couldn't get back to sleep. The staff didn't seem to care about such a major inconvenience.
Comfort of room and helpful staff
The staff were professional and extremely pleasant. The location was perfect to see everything Amsterdam has to offer.
Very good location, Nice minibar, Friendly staff I was not given a good room from the beginning. I lost too much time to give us an acceptable room.
The position is quite good. The bed is very comfortable. The hotel is far from being a five stars level. Small rooms, old furniture, noisy, no complimentary services, poor level of service staff. The price paid is too high for what you get.
This is a luxurious hotel located in the part of the Amsterdam. The service, the food and the staff were among the best that we have ever seen. We would love to go back there again.
Its central location, its friendly helpful staff, its comfortable rooms and pleasant atmosphere and there was no language barrier.
Everything was of a high level No
The fact that the hotel is located in a central area. The hotel has very good facilities.
The hotel in general, the room, view, location, staff breakfast was too expensive and too poor
great location, walking distance to most things, nice garden too much renovation, halls not very attractive
I spent there 4 nights with my wife, daughter and two grandchildren (5 and 14 years old). What impressed us most was the unique atmosphere of relax in the most heart of the city, unbelievably delicious cuisine at 238 restaurant and very comfortable pillows!!!! No, everything was perfect
We had a very nice room with a view on the canal;
Beautiful atmosphere, nice staff and amazing location Breakfast was poor and very expensive.
location, service, and room were great. We paid 30 euro extra at the hotel and had one of the two rooms we booked upgraded. one of the two rooms we booked was on the first floor. At first it looked terrible, but ended up being fine and three older kids stayed there and liked it. We stayed in a room that we paid 30 euro to upgrade to.
Stayed here for business and it was great. All the required services and internet were available. As for comfort, the bed was perfect. My only discomfort was that it can get a bit too warm at night despite the heater being off. Also, I have to say that the hotel is beautiful and in a very nice location. It is very easy to find your bearings to find your way back and feel safe even late at night. Would definitely stay here again.
The location. Lots of dislikes and for the price we paid, it is not close to the value that it should be.
The Pulitzer was recently redesigned and it exceeded my expectations in almost every way. The location can't be beat. It's in a very smart area in Amsterdam with great bars, shops, and restaurants nearby. The design of the hotel is very chic. The interior courtyard garden is amazing. Everything was perfect except service at restaurant Jansz. Everyone was well intended but some people (hostess) abandoned post for several minutes and people were left waiting to be received and, &! My case, to collect my coat. This is one area of operation to inspect. Otherwise, everything was so perfect. I've stayed also at the Dylan hotel and Waldorf and I would say that this hotel is better than Waldorf because the design is so smart and not generic like Waldorf. And I would say it's equal to the Dylan. Dylan is also chic but has a more classic design inspiration. Stay here while it's still affordable. I imagine rates will increase once reviews and bookings start coming in.
The Pulitzer offers old world charm, excellant service, and all the luxury in modern accommodations anyone could ask for, I was thrilled with the hotel, and the morning breakfast was par excellance. The location of the hotel was for us, perfect. I just can't say enough. I've stayed with the Pulitzer before this trip and I will definately stay there again when I return to Amsterdam. I am in the restaurant business in the US, and because I work so hard at creating a special atmosphere and serving my guests well, I am very appreciative when traveling to be treated so well. . The Pulitzer does it right, from check in the check out! Thank you! Absolutely NO Complaints or suggestions.
The location is very good, having a good access to anywhere from the tram station close to the hotel. The staff is indeed capable and courteous, but I rather wish them to be more leisurely.
found the hotel to be the perfect location for our vacation in amsterdam. many of the things we wished to see were in walking distance and if not the hotel was very quick to arrange transportation for us. thought the room could be just a little fancier in appearance for the amount of money charged. otherwise - very confortable
Excellent location. Little noisy, little dirty:)
