Bargain price, friendly service
Pros: Friendly people, and the price was great. They accommodated a request to swap for a newer model with more tire tread remaining, since we were driving in snow/ice.
Cons: Initial car was a Camry with 35K miles on it. Just not enough tread to safely drive in ice/snow.

Cons: When I went to pickup the car, they changed the agreement from unlimited mileage to only 200miles per day...
Extremely irritating and annoying and undeserved.

Pros: Getting the car was very easy. The counter was in the terminal. The agent upgraded us to the "daily special" was no cost (standard SUV to full size SUV) at no extra cost since our car still had to be cleaned.
Cons: Drop-off procedure was confusing. I pulled into the lot for Dollar and was told that it was for Thrifty. The lot agent was not sure where to drop-off the car. She eventually told me to park it near the office.

Understanding staff for my car return
Pros: The day of our return was very snowy and my trip was very difficult. After surviving a dangerous drive on Interstate 70, I had a minor very slow speed "fender bender" within a mile of the airport. No one was hurt and the other car was not damaged at all. The Dollar agent could not have been more understanding. I would recommend Dollar to anyone renting in "high altitude" snow country.

Cons: They informed me at the counter that there were not unlimited miles because I flew intra state (Denver to Eagle) and I had to go back and forth from Aspen several times over the weekend. I left them and used Budget instead.

Pros: The lady who checked out the car for me was excellent. She didn't try push me to add additional charges on the contract I didn't want as I have experienced with other rental agencies.
Pros: Price was surprisingly low, the VW Passat was a real treat, and the Frisco, Colorado staff went out of their way to make check in and out very efficient and pleasant.
Cons: Not a thing!

Lack of upfront information
Pros: The car was modern and new.
Cons: When we picked up the car the Hertz representative failed to mention that they had a out of hours drop off cost for that particular location (and I assume all locations), despite our booking stating that we had planned to drop it off out of hours. I didn't know their office hours (who can blame me), so feel that the representative should have out of common courtesy and good service mention that they would be closed at the time I had booked to return it and that extra costs would apply. In my case, their office closed at 12pm on a Saturday and my booking was until 1PM ON THE SATURDAY, only 1 hour after they closed for the weekend. I was therefore for some ridiculous reason responsible for the vehicle until they NEXT OPENED although I wasn't using the vehicle and had dropped it off at the paid for and agreed time in perfect condition. If the representative had simply informed me "hey, if you drop it off an hour early you wont get charged so much extra", then I would EASILY have done so. It may be that some people cannot drop off earlier, so be it, at least they were informed and given the option, but in my case, I would have been fully able to accommodate given the option. Furthermore, I struggle to understand why Hertz would have this policy in place considering: say I had dropped the car off right before they closed at 12pm on the saturday before reopening monday at 8am - the office is closed therefore that vehicle would not even have been able to be rented out to another customer had Hertz even wanted it to be until they reopened on Monday. Furthermore, I have even extra charges on my credit card (4 seperate charges on separate days to be exact) that I do not know what they are for. I left a note to the regard above on the drop off envelope and they still charged me without calling to discuss. When we arrived to pick up the car at the exact time that we said we would, the car wasn't available and we had to wait 30 minutes to get it. And lastly, the vehicle had a wheel bearing out that made for the long distance driving we did a little irritating.
