Location, room layout, cost I find it offensive that this hotel allowed pets (a golden retriever) into the breakfast area. As far as I could tell, this was a pet and not a service dog. I consider this to be an unhygienic practice. Staff should have mentioned it to the guest.
Liked the suite we stayed. Very large and clean! Liked the pool and hot tub. Service was great. Would have liked a better selection for breakfast and better stash of towels in the pool room. Nobody offered to come in and make our beds and leave fresh towels.
It was nice and clean every thing was perfect . I do not like to go to hotel because of so many things they say and talk how the place are so nasty and filthy I did not want to go hotel but this was perfect. The only thing I did not like was there was a baby in the next door and he or she cry and cry and also making so much bunging it was distebing but so fair every thing was okey.
From the time we arrived the hotel had a clean and comfortable feel to it. The staff was very friendly, helping us to find wonderful places to eat and visit. The room was clean and well cared for. The breakfast at the hotel was a great time saver with a little something for about every taste. The location of the hotel was perfect, a major freeway nearby but still quiet and peaceful outside. The hotel was centrally located to many wonderful sites.
Clean, comfortable with friendly staff. Although the room looked clean, it had a musty smell when we first arrived, after the air was on for a bit it went away. Also the walls are thin, we were there during school vacation week and we could hear the teens running and yelling half the night.

We stayed 4 days in this hotel and found it excellent in every way. The staff was knowledgeable and courteous, the breakfast outstanding, the rooms clean and comfortable. A long overdue addition to Exeter. We will return.

I liked the attitude of the staff, as they were extremely nice and willing to help.
Room Layout, size, cleanliness and hotel location. No Bar
Great breakfast spread no
We were given the Parlor Room (103) which was perfect since we both had work to do on our trip. That they did not offer local draft beer in the Epoc bar.
This is an excellent Hotel. The people are friendly and the upgrade was very much appreciated None
It was different from the "chain" hotels and had a "friendly" atmosphere. I like the elements of the hotel that remained prior to renovation but also the up to date parts as well such as wireless and pleasant rooms. There was nothing that I did not like about the hotel. I hope to stay again.
Nice building, big room with very nice furniture, lot of light in the room Restaurant maybe too expensive, few options to have dinner in the bar
location. Excellent bathroom fixtures. dusty smellty wall to wall carpeting.
Very clean, nice room, great location Fire alarm went off, girls soccer team staying near us was very loud and rude, yelling in hallway past quiet hours, the door to our room did not close all the way.
Rooms were nice and clean. I was on club level and the ice machine and people walking around were very loud. Did not feel private. Guy at the desk was very non customer service oriented. As I found with most people at that desk. Valet guy was very nice. Pay decent money you expect a little more courtesy. I do not expect to stay there again.
Good location downtown, nice staff. Pool was under construction for renovations, and we had really been eagerly awaiting this part of the trip with two little kids. No continental breakfast - only their restaurant with overpriced and far underperforming food.
The hotel is centrally located within walking distance to every thing. Room was beautiful and clean. The shower felt so good after a long day on the beach in the sun. The beds were comfy but the pillows could be a little harder. The staff was amazing...always pleasant. The free breakfast was far more than we expected and was a great way of starting the day. Love the valet parking. ...very convenient. We will definitely be back next time we are in town. Kathleen Kelley September 2015 Pillows, not that I hated them...just that they need to be alittle harder....not enough neck support.
Directions and signage are not easily understood or noticed
Great staff, great room accommodations, good location with easy access to major highways, downtown, and beach. We would stay here again on our next trip to Portsmouth. A great value for the price and a knowledgeable staff. Nothing.
We really liked the hotel. It was a convenient location, right off 95 on our way home from Maine. Clean, comfortable, and the staff was very friendly. There was only ONE thing that bothered me and had we stayed more than one night would have driven me absolutely crazy: the floor above us. Our room was located on the bottem level of the hotel, room 125. The room directly above us has the creakiest floors which left me wide awake listening to the people above getting ready in the morning. Not a problem if they got up later or I was a deep sleeper, but the floor boards started their symphony at 5:30 am, far too early for my vacation.
The Port Inn in Portsmouth, NH is a well kept, clean place to stay. Convenient to the highway and to downtown Portsmouth with a very welcoming and friendly staff.
The manager Steven went well above and beyond the service of any other hotel experience I've had and I travel quite frequently for work. I will certainly be back again. The breakfast is a great bonus!
The location of the hotel was great. Close to many restaurants and shops. The room we were in was less than desirable. The ceiling had black/grey spots above our bed, I'm hoping it's not mold! The beds were old and saggy. Our "view" on the first floor was of an old delapitated fence with what looks like a run down house next door that can see right into the room. The bathroom needs updating, there was someone's hair stuck to the ceiling of the shower and the worse part was that the heater that you had to turn on ran and sounded like an old window unit a/c. It would be die on fan but when it kicked on to heat it would be so loud you couldn't sleep. Worst couple nights sleep ever! And the "heated" pool is freezing cold!!!
Our non smooking room was very humid and smelly. Pool area was sauna style. I do not recommend this hotel
Didn't get NON-smoking room as requested. Smelly!!!! Door to room could barely open/ close over carpet and would NOT even open wide. In an emergency we couldn't get out fast at all!!! Bathroom could have been cleaner. Breakfast was just OK.
Best breakfast, very nice staff and it was quiet It was next to a funeral home
The hotel was in a pretty good location for dining and going to the each which was great. The staff was very friendly and courteous, made us feel very comfortable. And the mini fridge in the room was huge! The hotel seemed just kind of sad? The ceiling of our room was wooden planks which was pretty cool, however the bed was extremely hard, the bathroom was tiny and the bath tub wasn't too clean. The hotels "heated" pool was ice cold the entire stay, no towels on the rack for guests to use, the door to the pool was not locked. The pool was one of the main reasons we chose the hotel as the weather during our stay was very cloudy and a bit rainy. Kyak.com said the hotel had a hot tub, it did not. No shower curtain. The breakfast was not even warm, room temp at best. I just stuck with the muffins because of that.
friendly staff comfortable bed difficulty regulating room temperature lack of warm blanket paltry selection of food items available for continental breakfast
Staff was very attentive and friendly. Debris on floor. Mold on shower curtain. No drain plug for tub. Horrible pillows and breakfast
Beds were comfy
Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I love Robbin! He's nice, helpful and courteous. I always look forward to seeing him at the desk. Rooms are very clean, but could use some minor maintenance. My lamp shade was missing the nut that held the shade on, so it was tilted, second light in bathroom didn't work correctly, , minor things that are not always noticed.
We were staying in Portsmouth overnight with some friends. Great value for the price. Clean rooms & bathroom, comgortable bed. A little dated, but again, a good value for the money.
Clean night clerk was very helpful in suggesting places to eat
Close to everything. Including the best liquor store in NH across the street. Air was nice and cold. Coffee was good too in the am. Wish the bed was was a queen.
The people next door had the TV on loud all night - called front desk - they said they called the room but couldn't get hold of anyone. Moved us at 2:30 AM to another room - but next to air conditioning noise - then to another room where the traffic kept us awake all night. We were travelling from Halifax, NS to PA - driving all day and was to drive all day the next day - wasn't impressed with not getting any sleep. We usually stayed here with no complaints - too bad this happened at this time. Will look for another place next time.
Front desk staff very helpful with local info. Breakfast is fairly basic
Low Rates Awesome Friendly Service Comfortable Room
was not as clean as it could have been
It was very clean. Coffee ran out when I came downstairs.
Room was clean, housekeeping was great, balcony over live music was a great experience. First, no one helps you with your luggage to and from room and being disabled it makes it very difficult. Others complained as well. They say free parking when you book however we got charges $54!!! Unreal! You choose hotel close to beach, you would think for what you are paying for room, parking would be included. Choices for meals at outside restaurant were slim. Our grandson (3 yrs old) only had two choices none of which he liked! Waitress was nice though. No smoking on balcony so should be explained when booking. Balcony outside is perfectly safe for smoking instead of walking a mile to smoke when you are disabled!
It was off season so it was quiet. Staff were courteous and friendly. Love that they were pet friendly(but only in the off season) room was small but clean and had a nice balcony with ocean views Nothing was open in the town during the off season ... We were in the area for the newburyport half marathon so our first night we ate at the hotel restauraunt Breakers which was good but also pretty much our only option in Hampton. The other night we ate and engaged in activities in Newburyport MA
Location, rooftop bar, staff. Strange odors, dirty shower curtain and shower head. Indoor pool area.
Loved being close to everything, but by far the staff at the desk, valet, and housekeeping was above and beyond super nice... I just wished I could have turned the heat down more than to 65, without turning it off. it was very hot in the room..
I would like to recognize Dimple Patel and Natalia for their exceptional service. Each encounter was so pleasant, welcoming and engaging. I travel often for work and never have I encountered such exceptional service on a consistent basis. Dimple and Natalia are what made my stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Portsmouth Downtown enjoyable, not the hotel amenities nor the look of the hotel.
I thought our room smelled and felt a bit musty.
Temporarily parked by entrance (20 minutes) while we got our room and unpacked. Valets were pleasant and professional. Hotel location was excellent and Portsmouth is very walkable. At this price, we expected a complimentary breakfast. Expensive valet only parking. We found our own parking nearby for free.
Very clean and a great location Valet parking was the only option
Overall nice place No bath tub!
I really enjoyed the food and cocktails while watching football. There was a server by the name Anca who took great care of me. The rooms where very clean and it's walking distance to everything. Parking stinks
Very clean and modern, friendly staff and accessable to dowtntown
Unable to stay here because they had no confirmed reservation
Location was fantastic....right in the heart of Portsmouth. Nothing
Convenient to all shopping/dining needs. Hampton Beach is a short drive, which is nice not having to deal with the beach's congestion every time you go out. The bed was like sleeping on just a box spring. We had a room with a sleeper sofa. As a sofa, you couldn't even sit on it, you would sink right down to bars of the sleeper. Extremely uncomfortable. They really need to invest in new beds. We had ants in our room. The chairs in the breakfast area were disgusting and one of the tables had the same syrup or whatever spilled, on the table for days.
Nothing Dirty, they misrepresented their hotel, no premuim bedding.( sheets don't even fit the beds.) No covers under sheets, or pillow cases. Beds were terrible. Room darking shades are dark red curtains, with something white all over them, we didn't want to guess. Our room had a door knob, not a very good one either, no dead bolt, just a chain. It was a very unpleasant experience.
The whole place is right off a highway exit, down a dark road. When you first enter, the I hate my life staff stares us down until we greeted him. Less than enthusiastic check in and when we asked where we should park, he simply said, parking is first come first serve so wherever. We bought our luggage into the room, which was old and smelly. I want to note that I'm no diva and am usually satisfied with a standard hotel room, no frills needed. This was terrible. Carpets were stained, It smelled musky and dirty. I couldn't even bring myself to take a shower in that bathroom. There was a overwhelming stench of mildew. The comforter had stains on it. I mean, it looked like a urine stain and another spot looked like blood. It was a nightmare, if I felt like it would be safe to sleep in my car I would've. We paid over $100 for one night, I'm not sure what you can get in that area for that price range, but if I knew 3 stars was like this I would not have hesitated to spend more.
Got the suite and it was big and spacious clean in the room. Good breakfast room. Nice pool area. New staff help at night did not know how to work the TV, took second day late at night to get help for the TV to work. We were there for only two nights. The outside needed paint and inside needed new carpet.
Excellent location. 10 minutes from the beach. Right next to loads of dining and shopping Terrible condition, disgusting stained carpets and linens, facilities and building is extremely aged
Big room Nice bedding and pillows Clean Microwave and fridge in room Free coffee all day Good breakfast Everyone was very nice Right off 95 GREAT PRICE!! Nothing, this hotel exceeded my expectations
Breakfast staff had difficulty keeping up with demand. Items ran out throughout our brief visit. They made every effort when it was brought to their attention, but we had to bring things to their attention quite a bit. (The coffee is out. The fruit has run out. The waffle mix is empty. There is no syrup. The decaf is out. There is still no fruit. There are no bowls. The regular coffee is out again…)
The room was spacious and clean and the staff was very friendly. Good solid value. Nothing to really complain about.
Quiet setting among the trees. Free internet. Nice hot breakfast, at least on Sunday. The towels in the pool area were tiny and as rough as 60 grit sandpaper. The towels in the room were a little softer (200 grit) but still small. Not something you can change now, but design would be better if bathroom were accessible without having to go through the bedroom.
Hotel staff was great - very helpful. The room was great for our family.
I enjoyed the stay, plan to come back.
It was a very quiet location but very close to downtown. The rooms were clean and large. The breakfast was very good. The breakfast area was too small for the amount of people there at the time. The one woman cleaning the area could not keep up with getting the tables clean and restocking the food.
The quaintness of the inn and the food at Old Salt's restaurnat made for an enjoyable stay.
This was a lovely country inn! The canopy bed was beautiful as was the whole atmosphere of this inn. The grounds as well as all the hallways and lobby were clean and comfortable. Complimentary lemon ice water, coffee, fresh fruit and newspapers were available at all times as an added touch. The complimentary breakfast by the fireplace each morning added to the entire experience. And the restaurant attached was exceptional as well as quite reasonable.
quaint, quiet attractive inn. Very restful and liked that it had a nice restaurant attached.
Clean rooms and common areas Restaurant on site Continental breakfast Parking Very uncomfortable mattress Outdated decor They have actual keys with a wooden key chain for your room, which are a pain to carry and the locking mechanisms are tricky to operate
I loved the Colonial Style Wish the bathrooms were a little bigger.
Treated like old friends from the moment we stepped through the door! Bob, the front desk clerk, was AMAZING! So friendly and helpful! The room was small, but beautifully appointed. Even though we went to the restaurant a bit earlier than our reservation time, they never batted an eye! Seated us promptly and the wait staff was terrific! This place is now definitely in our top 5 all time favorites! (The other 4 are out of the country!!) What's not to like, seriously?!?!
Location was great and Hotel room was comfortable and spacious. Breakfast was good with great range of fresh fruit and pastries. Bathroom could of been a little bigger
Restaurant outstanding despite fairly low prices. The hotel is beautiful, warm and cosy. Would go back anytime and recommend to my friends.
I loved my stay and that is where I will stay on all my trips to Hampton. I have no complaints.
Seafood in the attached restaurant
Average hotel of this type. Room comfortable. Facilities OK. In-house restaurant food was good in evening Avoid the breakfast
The staff is very helpfull and friendly. The room was very nice and pleasant.
Kindness friendines of breakfast staff. Very hard worker. In room clean Pool and hot tub have been broken for months!!!! Check-in staff staff stated it is on Web site but not listed. Also rug being replaced but not cleaned after day''s work.
Easy access to highway Couldn't sleep because of truck noise on 95.
Right off the highway, easy to find. Mice poop in the drawers. The room had a mildew/mold smell too.
clean and the location to downtown the hot tub was broken
very nice staff.good location.
the vending machine hot tub/jacuzzi out of order
I was under the impression when reading online that we would be within walking distance to things but there was only a liquor store that was within walking distance. We were also put in a room that was near stairs which creaked loudly & were awaken multiple times because of this. Our room was clean but had a bad smell & there was mold on shower curtain
My family enjoyed the pool and hot tub, the rooms were good and it was literally right off the highway. Very close to Maine. Free breakfast was only to 9 am.
No frills place to lay your head. For us, it was a halfway point to a Maine vacation week. Front desk clerk was accomodating, letting us borrow his personal information phone charger for a little bit when we'd mentioned we'd left ours at home. Pool was down and drained, which bummed my kids out because they were looking forward to a swim when we pulled into town. Our basement room felt musty.
The carpet and some of the furniture were wet as a result of a plumbing problem, yet they still put guests in the room. It smelled moldy. Pool and hot tub were closed due to the same issues. The steak was doing their best and stayed pleasant but the accommodations were decidedly substandard.
Staff hardly spoke English. The hotel smells like mold
Location Pool was not operating.Advertised a working pool and hot tub.
Great location within walking distance! We came as a staycation to go out with friends we haven't seen in a long time! We had three different interactions with the staff, and all three were very disappointing. We had drinks with friends (who were also hotel guests) and asked for extra glasses, which came an hour later, and the staff member who dropped them off just had a terrible attitude. It was obvious he was unhappy about it. Came back from dinner and drinks to a very rude third shift member who told us we had a noise complaint and grilled us about who was staying in the room. We hadn't been in the room since 7pm, so I don't know how that was even possible. Then we were given a late checkout till 12:30pm and were getting ready when a very rude house keeper can to the door at 11am and told us we should have left already. We explained and she scowled and stormed off! Needless to say we will not be back.
The breakfast was great, staff was very nice, the room size was just right for us. Great location to downtown and parking garage since parking is off site. Will definitely choose this hotel again. Nothing
Close to turnpike and stores. Not enough staff. I waited 7 minutes to check in. When I had to check out there was nobody at the desk at all, just a sign saying the clerk was away assisting a customer. I was going to be late to my meeting so I just left my room key and called later to check out over the phone. 4 floors, over 30 rooms per floor, and only ONE ELEVATOR. You will be waiting a long time to get on the elevator. only one ice machine, and it's on the first floor. No fridge in room. No microwave in room. Microwave is on first floor. If all you need is a bed to sleep in, then this would be fine. But if all you needed was a bed to sleep in, you wouldn't pay as much as they charge for a room. Over-priced for what you get.
respectful staff. when we arrived we could tell the hotel was not top notch. While checking in I was informed that they had no rooms left with an ac in them or a fan. I was offered a 20% discount upon check though i was not pleased as i had made the reservation well ahead of time. We got our things and headed to our room, when we got in we checked things out to find that there was what appeared to be feces on the sheet of one of the beds. Between not having ac and the feces it was the last straw for my fiance. We called around to fine another hotel and i asked to be creditied back. The receptionist had no issue with giving my money back and was respectful about it. We were able to book a hotel about the same distance from hapton where we would be going for the next couple days for $15 more a night in a MUCH nicer hotel in andover ma area.
The terrible staff
Clean, Convenient. Wished there was shampoo and conditioner.
The staff was excellent and very helpful.
I tried two room and they were both very dirty, and decided to leave. The front deal staff was very nice about it. Wouldn't reccemond anyone stay here
The location was good When we got to the hotel they had one floor with no A/C and only had smoking rooms left otherwise. We are both allergic to cigarette smoke and had a hot, humid, miserable night.
Inexpensive. Good location near Portsmouth and NH beaches. Water was hot and good water pressure in shower. Lobby smelled bad. Internet access cost extra. TV had HBO, but no ESPN, CNN, Fox News, etc. Only provided 2 small towels. Mattresses soft & uncomfortable. Room wasn't made up until 5:00pm
It is a good place where sleeping if you're driving to another city and you have to stop for the night
Clean, quiet odor of smoke (there was no non-smoker room available )
