Nothing specific stood out The service is erratic and at times poor The cleanliness of the crockery (dried sugar on a coffee spoon) and the level of crockery (cracked cup) is not on par with its star rating The rooms already look like they need redecorating and 'romantic room' is in fact a very small room with a limited view of the grounds and Florence. Drinks and meals were prohibitively costly in the hotel We were woken at night by inconsiderate guests arriving late and by the sound of the luggage trollies. The noise was dealt with quickly by the concierge, but you also get noise from a neighbouring campsite (tannoy announcements) which can be quite disconcerting!
the old world feel in the rooms. The interior in the public spaces could use some serious attention! It feels cheap and not on the level of a genuine 5 star hotel. Overall needs tasteful direction and overhaul. Restaurant bill for 2 was almost 90 euros for 2 glasses of wine, 2 pastas, and 1 dessert. Each glass of house wine they offered me was 16 euros each. I have dined at many restaurants in Italy ranging from michelin star to amazing local family restaurants therefore I am quite confident to say this was expensive for what is was. The food was standard for what you can expect in any decent Italian kitchen however you can head down the road to find many nicer restaurants that will be over half the price for the same thing. Moreover the interior of the restaurant feels like a cheap Chinese restaurant with an interior inspired by Versace in the 90's.
I cannot accept that the overnight price of euros299.00does not include breakast! A fabulous location but I have stayed in better hotels before for a lot less! The air conditioning in the annexe was locked on 25.5c and could not be reduced.the room was like a sauna.we stayed at the hotel to attend a wedding on site.the dinner service was poor-at one stage the cutlery ran out.they should be used to mass catering!take care concerning mosquitoes.these seem to be endemic in florence and 5 stars do not stop you from getting bitten.we have come home with numerous bites!
the feeling of luxury, calm, and amazing view over the whold of Florence. The staff were considerate, very helpful , quite perfect.
The location is surely impressive and the staff extremely super nice and helpfull. the free shuttle service is absolutely fantastic! There are a few things that I was not happy about: the bed mattress was old and had a big hole in the middle that made our sleep extremely uncomfortable. they didn't even have a selection of pillows, but only one standard, that , in a hotel room that costs 299 euros per night is not acceptable. the breakfast was totally not worthed 25 euros per person ( they should really have it included in the price). For how perfect is a view , and we all know how important is a room with a view in Florence, they are located next to a camping ground, and in the middle of the night and early in the morning, the camping ground management was calling people with megaphones to move their cars.... ad was utterly annoying and loud!
The views were stunning and superb facilities. Gourmet dining with elegant surroundings. nothing to complain about
I love that hotel, everything was perfect!
very friendly staff and very nice restaurant. One of our best meals in Florence. Thanks for the wonderfully chilled bottle of Champagne in our room, on arrival, was a wonderful touch! We will stay there again. Shuttle services needs to be extended in hours and also drop folks in the middle of the town as opposed to the bridge.
The building looked beautiful, and it was close to the Tuscan country side. Staff was very helpful and the food was really good. There isn't really much negative things to say here, however I would improve the shuttle service to different locations, ex the Terminal. Also, TV has to have more English channels , that helps relax after a long day of walking.
The whole stay was excellent. Service top class, views amazing, room outstanding, roof terrace unbeatable in Florence. I will go back and recommend others to stay whenever in Florence.
Spent two nights there in November 2014. Excellent service, room, and amenities. Would definitely return. I can say without equivocation that I would return. Fabulous views of Florence! Tea served in the salon each afternoon. Gorgeous linens. Attentive service. This is a my hotel when I return to Florence!!
the 25 euros per breakfast for one person is too expensive I think.
The view from the room balcony over the river was breath-taking. Great location for site seeing.
The hotel is lovely, large, well appointed rooms with a nice bathroom. The location is great, right on the Arno. It is a great value, and more of a 4 star than a 3 star hotel. Highly recommended. It would be nice if they included boiled eggs with breakfast rather than charging for them.
Lovely hotel with helpful staff, catered to a more mature clientile
Staff were excellent - helpful, and charming. Location was superb, right next to the Uffizi gallery, and on the banks of the river. I liked the charm of the foyer area and the no-nonsense but well appointed facilites. I would definitely use the hotel again. A little more attention to lighting in the room (bulb not replaced, for example), plus non-slip shower flooring would reassure.
The hotel's location is excellent. You can walk to most of the popular tourist attractions. The breakfast was good and the breakfast room was pleasant. The only thing unpleasant, was the room freshner smell. Opening the windows helped temporarily.
the staff was very helpful and pleasant and very attentive to your requests. Breakfast was very good. European style, but very good. We had a room with a river view and the view was beautiful. The room was quiet for sleeping and yet just a short distance away, there was much activity, nice restaurants and in the evening, near the Uffici and the Piazza Senioria (not sure of spelling) there was always a young musician playing music. It was very romantic. No, my experience was very positive.
The staff was always extremely helpful and fluent in several languages; the location on the Arno River just steps from the Ponte Vecchio was unbeatable; and the wonderful complimentary breakfast buffet every morning started my days off well. I can't wait to go back!
Lovely hotel, great location, very helpful staff, great breakfast room small by US standards, probably average for European hotels
Hotel Balestri is conveniently located, very close to Uffizi Galleries, Ponte Vecchie, Museo Galileo, and many other attractions. It was very clean and the front desk staff were very helpful and attentive. The hotel doesn't have a bar, per se, but will serve customers from a limited alcohol menu.
Excellent location, staff welcoming and very helpful, confortable room with a wodnerful view!!! As before we found the quality of food provided at the restaurant (we had lunch on arrival and breakfast each day) was not of the standard expected.
Assistance given by concierge in booking of taxi etc
Good quiet location but within walking distance of all the main attractions. Spacious comfortable room with large balcony. Could do with a dressing table in the room. There is enough space. Restaurant on the expensive side.
I would recommend this hotel to anyone. It is an old hotel but it is very well maintained. the staff was superb, reception, bar, breakfast staff, all really helpful and smiley. I had a single room on the 4th floor with a balcony (magnificent view over the river). The room was very pleasant, not too spacious but more than enough for one person. the location is superb. walking distance to everything! Only a shower head in the bathroom of the single room (I got a glance of a double room and they do have baths instead of showers).
Gorgeous, maybe one would call it old fashioned, but exceptionally well kept hotel, beautiful reception area, high ceilings, spacious comfortable rooms, superb staff, friendly and very available for every demand, supreme breakfast. This hotel will make your stay in Florence unforgettable, I'm positive of that! One of the truely great hotels of this world, and affordable as well.. Absolutely NOTHING!
The Duplex room we booked was beautifully decorated, spacious with floor to ceiling doors opening to a glorious view over the Arno. Also, very tasty buffet breakfast. Reservation staff, in particular Silvia, were extremely helpful. Menu in restaurant was quite limited. A bit more seafood on the menu would have been nice. We arrived from Dublin at 4.15pm not having had any lunch. Full Room service didn't operate between 2 and 7pm when kitchen was closed. However, We did get a very tasty ham and cheese sandwich!
Our room faced the river m, such a beautiful view. The room was nice & very clean. The concierge recommended some excellent restaurants. The street noise is loud at night, so either ask for a quiet room some where or bring ear plugs. The staff working the breakfast each morning could be a lot more friendly.
convenient location, lovely hotel
Very well situated on walking distance of the city center. Limited breakfast buffet.
We loved the view from our balcony. Staff made us feel very much at home.
Very friendly and informative staff, clean rooms.
The location of the hotel was fantastic, along the river, but still within walking distance of some of the most famous attractions. Breakfast buffet was excellent. The hotel dinner in the evening was good but expensive, we only ate there once in the evenin during our stay.
the confort and price no
hiçbirşey ( nothing at all) room is too small, there is no view and feel as in a prison ( room 114), i changed my hotel after 2 days.
Everything except TV - TV has always problems of the speaker. Sometimes the volume was off itself but sometimes it came out too loud. - No wireless internet provided in the room.
Our room was on the new floor and was very spacious and comfortable. Breakfast was good and the staff helpful.
They were rude, not sure why - I'm always polite to people in the service industry. They made my stay pretty awful.
Elegant hotel, very suitable for teh families. Not far away from the major city sights. very good breakfast, clean rooms. Nothing to complain.
Very efficient & helpful Breakfast
Free car parking, good location, easy access to the historical centre. no wi-fi in the rooms, staff professional but distant from the client.
location was good some staff were rude
The staff were extremely cordial and well manered. They were always available with a helpful information when needed and accomodated our every request. The room was nicely decorated, clean, comfortable etc. We spent a lot of time in our room at night resting after a long days of sightseeing and really felt at home there. We liked that the hotel was away from the center. We were able to take a bus to the train station. On a return trip we are considering renting a car because the A1 is down the street and a car park around the corner.
Very comfortable room, nicely decorated. Quiet, friendly atmosphere, very relaxing. Breakfast was excellent. Location of the hotel was good, situated in a pleasant riverside area of the city within reasonable walking distance of the centre
Balcony on top floor. No kettle (tea/coffee) in the room. No mini bar. Check out time is too early, should make exceptions and not charge an extra day because you're late leaving.
breakfast a little limited
Excellent staff, very imprressed with integrity as we left a camera in the lobby and the staff found it and kept it for us until we passed through Florence a week later on our way home
The hotel staffs were very nice, very good customer service. The bed quality isn't that good. I book for full size bed, but it turned out to be two twin size beds put together and I can feel the line in the middle. Their AC system will not turn on until summer I guess. On the night that I stayed in Florence it was hot and humid but there was no AC in the room. I had to open the window all night.
Hotel River is a comfortable well situated hotel, putting just the right distance between you and central Florence, achieving relative peace and quiet while remaining within easy striking distance of all the main sights (The hotel is and particularly handy for Santa Croce). The hotel has some character (my room had a nice fresco on the ceiling and generally was nicely designed). On the whole the staff were extremely helpful, friendly and fluent in English which helped to develop a nice holiday atmosphere. Only a handful of rooms have a river view apparently but perhaps you wouldn’t want those because of noise from the road which runs in front of the river (Lugarno Zeccchi Vecchia). My room (facing into courtyard) was very quiet. The breakfast was very poor - stale rolls and terrible coffee (also yoghurts, toast and some not very appealing ham). It is not that difficult or expensive to provide good quality fresh bread, butter and coffee? Within the budget of a 3 star hotel this seems a very strange place to cut corners; it does not save much money and has quite a significant impact on customer satisfaction I imagine. Secondly I would like to ask the management what on earth do you think that loud piped music is achieving? It is not any style of music that I recognise and it was played at all times of day and night. I notice that other reviewers have mentioned this but it seems that no notice has been taken. If you hear this strange noise in your room, dial 9!
service at the front desk was great aside from getting up to take a early morning run only to find the doors locked because the guy at the front desk was sleeping in the reception area poor job of servicing rooms, did not replace empty soap bottles or used plastic cups
The location was fantastic - we could walk to everything. The breakfast was teriffic - good choice and plentiful. I think the bathroom showerstall could use better cleaning - too much mold for my liking. Just use a bleach solution in a spray bottle and leave it for a few minutes and it should rinse clean in no time!
staff friendly and helpful Good location on river away from all the bustle of centre although longish walk for disabled or unfit guests First room assigned was on lower ground floor and was dark Second room was on 1st floor and was good
Why didn't a member of staff empty the ashtrays in the central courtyard, what a shame it was unkempt and grubby.
Superb, friendly service & fantastic ambience
the hotel is like a spa
The warm and freindly staff. The atmosphere and general feel of the hotel.
Very modern and cool hotel, very clean, wonderful breakfast, kind staff A lot of noise coming from the busy road opposite the hotel. Flooded bathroom due to weird shower with no glass panels around it.
Nice Design. Friendly Staff. Cleanliness wasn't the best. Found hair on towels. 2 towels were stained. Shower drainage clogged.
It's location to the old city is very convenient and the aesthetic of the hotel was neutral and modern. The single rooms are very small for not a significant difefrence in price compared to a double.
clean and tidy
front desk staff helped tremendously in an urgent situation. job well done.
Belissimo!! Belissimo!! Belissimo!! Fantastc staff probably the best we've come across in the world. Wonderful hotel would suggest it to everyone staying in Florence! Location is pretty good Services are excellent Design sublime If you have a lot of luggage or are not so active then some of the rooms are a long trek, and becuase of the different levels a luggage trolly can't be used. I had to make 5 exhausting trips with our bike gear - but worth it!! (On arrival anyway!)
We really appreciated the design of the hotel. It was awsome and stylish. The white color was calming. The receptionists were very helpful and their reccommodations worked perfectly. The hotel is not exactly in the centre of Firenze but on the other hand it was little escape from the people. We were sorry that bath tub on the roof was not ready while we were staying. It could have been nice. Next time.
Extremely friendly staff. My laptop somehow couldn´t connect to their wireless link, but they kindly lent me their laptop. Excellent location, on the south bank of Arno river and yet at walking distance from Ponte Vecchio.
The breakfast was wonderful, the staff very helpful and recommended some nice places to dine nearby. The location cannot be beat. Near shopping, cultural sights and easy walking distance to everything you want to see and do in Florence. The hotel was quiet and the stay was most memorable.
- Location was just on the South Side of the Arno River, a short walk from the Uffizi Gallery and Galileo Museum. A private garage is available for guests only and well worth the 19 euro per night fee, IMHO. Also, Bar Zoe is an attractive bar next door offering evening entertainment. Staff was accomodating and very polite. - Breakfast was included but not meet my expectations for other Italian hotels that I have stayed at for similar value. Simple bread rolls, hard boiled eggs, croissants, yogurt, and ham/salami were offered with water, juice, or coffee.
Central location and although basic the room was clean and the shower facilities were acceptable Generally hotel is a bit tired looking and the hotel could do with a freshen up to revive it although I am sure previously it has been a lovely place.
Excellent location and easy walking distance to city attractions; very helpful staff; breakfast a little dull over the course of a week
Good location and nice terrace for breakfast. Rooms need upgrading and could do with being a bit cleaner.
Convenient location and very spacious rooms
Everything!! It was a great experience!
The room was a bit small but not surprising, majority of the hotels within old european cities are that way. the staff was on top of their game, hats off to them. we were fortunate to have a nice window view. i did not ask for that, thank you. if you plan to have your car parked there. remember, if you have a large (U.S.) type vehicle, it might be a little tight. this is not a complaint, but for those who want a quite night, there are two bars close by. it was no bother to us
Everything. But the view from our room most. Sorry, but not.
A friendly place, with spacious superior rooms, and garage situated 5-10 minutes from Ponte Vecchio. The staff have been friendly and helpful, wifi worked well. We'd definitely go back. It's just a detail but although the room was very confortable, the tiled floor was cold to walk on. It's a pity the floors haven't been refurbished. Wooden floors would give the rooms and corridors a much warmer feel.
Relaxed but helpful staff, comfortable rooms some shower rooms a bit small, pleasant location.
The service and staff were excellent, very friendly and very accommodating. With the hotel in a good location - south of the River, quoet amd within easy walking distance to the Ponte Vecchio and Sante Croc areas.
The hotel was beautiful and clean with a great lobby area and patio. The breakfast buffet was above average and the free wine and snacks during happy hour were a nice touch. The room was larger than most we have seen in Italy and it had a safe in it, which was great as well. They also offer free internet access in the lobby and let us borrow a power outlet converter so we could charge our digital camera battery. The location is the only slight downside, but it's a short walk or cab ride from some of the major sites. It's also located on a bus line. I would absolutely stay there again.
The front office staff were always pleasant and eager to please and assist. Room was large and clean. Breakfast very good.
The staff were friendly and welcoming. The hotel is a peaceful oasis. The extras (free phone call to UK and happy hour) were unprecedented, unexpected and very much appreciated. One of the nicest hotels we've ever stayed in - we'd like to live there! Nothing
Size of room, location
This was a lovely hotel that showed the character of the region. The hotel had so many complimentary touches that added to our experience of the city. They gave us a free full mini bar which included snacks, drinks and water. They also had free appetizers and wine native to the area each evening where you could meet follow travellers and relax after full day of sight seeing. The rooms were decorated in the style of what I had seen of European hotels in old movies, even down to the ceramic key bob you left at the front desk when you went out. The staff were wonderful and the hotel was very close to a city bus that was 5-10 min away from the heart of Florence. The room we were given was very large and bright with a small balcony. The only thing that could have been improved at this hotel was if in addition to the sheers, room darkening curtains could be added so the room isn't as bright at night.
Family home feeling. Location to major sites. Friendliness and area knowledge of staff. The bar, Cafe Michealangelo, next door.
Excellent and very helpful staff Could be more centrally located
Nice staff, good location The room was very dark .
close to the major sites we wanted to visit in florence. clean room with a very nice european breakfast. slightly disappointed with some of the staff.
terrific location friendliness poor breakfast (no fruit or vegetables)
Nothing it was very dismal and didn't have the "makeover" that the website suggested. Breakfast poor, staff unsure of how to use credit card machine! Staff at breakfast were very sweet.
Location, friendly staff, bit shabby in places, but use of computer also helpful.
Internet service was excellent. The bathroom was a bit small. Great facilities though!
The position was excellent.Staff gave good advice and were most helpful. I really appreciated the careful explanation about accessing after reception was closed. Good bed and very good linen for a moderate hotel. Breakfast was very good and service was friendly and efficient. I found the floor surface in my rooms uneven and I had to be careful ,especially at night.
Staff were helpful and friendly. Location ideal. Room large and comfortable. Just what we needed.
Excellent location and receptive staff.
Very friendly staff. All of them speak in English and Irina in Russian too. Very good breakfast. It was very nice to have the kitchen. Location is excellent. Not noisy. I can't recall.
I was very pleased with the staff. They were very friendly and helped us with reservations at museums, restaurants, shopping and so on. I also got a very nice lecture on Florentine history. Thanks Emanuel!
Very good value for money. Room is clean and tidy. The internet connection did not work. But then again, most (maybe all) hotels in this price range do not offer internet at all.
We loved our stay at the Hotel Privilege !! It was a great price compared to other Florence Hotels and was in a good location to see the sights of the city. The staff was very helpful in all ways. The room was beautiful with a window we could open to see greenery and listen to the rain fall overnight. We came late in the season so rainfall is not unusual. This hotel was a great find.
the staff is friendly and responsive
We liked the attention we got. Our breakfast on the terrace surrronded by Jasmine and Wisteria was perfect. All this in an 18th century Florentine Palace overlooking the Arno river, down the hill from the Michelangelo gardens!
I asked for a room facing the Arno and I was on the 1st floor its was beautiful. I opened the window every morning and the view definately started my day!! The only thing.. which was really minor was the door, it took me a couple tries to get it open.
Excellent I feel sorry to check out.
The hotel was one of the most friendly and helpful we have stayed in. The hotel was clean, warm and welcoming Everything was excellent
The owners of the hotel (Barbara and Emanuel) are fantastic. They are helpful, gracious and very kind. It is difficult to travel when you are not feeling well and the kindness and help that they extended was beyond the norm. We wil stay at the Hotel Privilege in the future!! The location is convenient, the breakfast spread is superb and the room was private, clean and comfortable. We cannot thank them enough!
warm and cosy decoration of the rooms and the breakfast room. the room was small and the road noise.
spacious room, fresh coffee quite long distance from centre, old interior
The staff is very friendly and helpful It is a little difficult to find the hotel
beautiful rooms expensive parking
service, firendly staff, nice room, NA
It was simply good to stay there. They had their own garage and the building was beautiful and so was the room. All antiques and looking gorgeous. The historical sites were nereby. Everythings were so good.
